On his podcast a while ago,…

On his podcast a while ago, Bill Simmons said he hopes the Patriots don't talk themselves into JJ McCarthy.  Ryen Rusello (I think) then said something to the effect of the reason JJ didn't throw more in college is because he wasn't good enough and people shouldn't make excuses for his lack of pass attempts by saying it was a system thing.  And I just thought to myself, have these guys never watched a Jim Harbaugh offense?  I mean, Bill Simmons admits he doesn't watch college football, but he watched the 49ers.... My own hope for JJ is that he goes into an Aaron Rodgers / Jordan Love situation where he goes to a good team, learns the offense as the understudy, and then comes in and slays.  I worry about him being too slight and injury prone right now -- being a rookie starter on a bad team often means playing behind a bad offensive line that doesn't give a QB time to develop and exposes him to injury.

Penix won't last long enough to be good.  He's already held together by shoestrings and bubble gum.

Too lazy to do my own…

Too lazy to do my own research, but an interesting question is how many other examples are there of a player portaling back to his original team?  Seems like it would be pretty rare.

Made in America was…

Made in America was fantastic.  It put the verdict in a context that, although still almost definitely wrong on the merits, at least made some sense.

Honestly? It chocked my guff.

It has been my wish that…

It has been my wish that people not dump on Juwan.  This interview makes me wish this even harder.  It didn't work out, he made some regrettable mistakes along the way, his being let go probably made the most sense for both sides, but there is no need to say mean things about him or to have ill will toward him.  I actually believe in the "Michigan Man" idea, and, as he himself says in the interview, he is a Michigan Man, through and through.

Oh, yeah?  So that means we…

Oh, yeah?  So that means we can talk about politics with no repercussions? I'll start:

Dewey Beats Truman was the real news! Truman stole the election from Dewey!

I do wonder about the GAs…

I do wonder about the GAs being seated where they have a better view and therefore can steal signs more effectively.  My guess is that, had Connor Stallions been somewhere other than the sidelines during games, we would have read about how his prime sign-stealing location in the stands  during games multiplied the egregiousness of the situation.

I try not to be bitter because F--- them, we won a national championship anyway, but hypocrisy tends to push my buttons.

From the Yo-Yo article:

From the Yo-Yo article:

Under Howard, the Wolverines made a habit of attracting European-born talent, as the program has featured the likes of Moussa Diabate, Franz Wagner and Mo Wagner.

I too was grateful that Howard's eventual coming attracted Mo Wagner to Michigan.  Much like how the prophecy of Jim Harbaugh attracted Tom Brady to Ann Arbor.

Yeah, that UCLA team we lost to played gross basketball.  Had Livers not been injured, we win that game.

In the words of Sol Rosenberg, "sue everybody."  Also, "I'll bring all my shoes and my glasses, so I'll have them."

Tom Brady was not a part…

Tom Brady was not a part time starter.  He started every game in 1998 and 1999.  Yes, Drew Henson played in the second quarter in some games in 1999, but that did not make Tom Brady a part time starter.  For the season, Brady was 180/295 for 2217 yards passing, while Drew Henson was 46/89 for 546 yards.  Man, that urban legend about Tom Brady not even starting at Michigan will not die.

Agreed that part of the reason we chanted "Let's Go Blue" over Dixieland Delight was about willing the win into existence.  But it was also about that song absolutely SUCKING and never ending; we just didn't want to hear that sh*tty, interminable song any more!

My oldest kid is also…

My oldest kid is also waiting to hear from U of M.  In Houston, I was doing all kinds of mental gymnastics about whether I'd prefer a national championship or my kid getting into Michigan if I had to choose one.  Hopefully I'm getting both!

Co-signed.  Harbaugh accomplished what he came here to do.  I'd love it if he stayed at U of M until he retired, but it's hard to argue with the results, even if it ends now.

Yep.  For example, from Dec. 6 MGoBlog:

FIRST OFF: DUNNO. Give or take Matt Hibner, who stopped playing in order to maintain a redshirt and transfer somewhere next year, Michigan is the last P5 team without someone in the transfer portal. This obviously isn't going to last, but I mention it because that fact combined with the peak COVID-shirt year means just about anyone could come back, or leave, for 2024.

Highly ranked in-state guys…

Highly ranked in-state guys for whatever reason almost always are never Michigan fans and always looking to leave the state

I think this is objectively not true.  For example, in the 247 composite for the state of Michigan for their respective years, Will Johnson was #1 and Donovan Edwards and Braiden McGregor were #2.  Sure, we've missed on some, but the way this is written is an exaggeration.

Also love that he was humble…

Also love that he was humble enough to include a clip of his most obvious block in the back penalty ever, in addition to his highlights.

I love that they chose Kris Jenkins to be Michigan's hype man on the Rose Bowl scoreboards.  And I love this "let's ask the flight attendant dumb questions" bit.  Kris Jenkins is a classic.

I didn't watch the game, but did they lose 14-3 because of their special teams play?  That's kind of how the article reads.  Either that or the special teams coach ran over Ramzy's dog.

That's awesome.  When I was…

That's awesome.  When I was a student, I watched the 1993 Final Four and Final at Crisler.  So much fun to watch a big M sporting event on a giant screen with thousands of other M fans.  Almost makes it seem like you're there live.  One (I guess two) of my favorite college memories.

I went to the Wiz-Magic game…

I went to the Wiz-Magic game last night.  All 4 Wolverines were on the floor at the same time for substantial stretches (Jett is in the G League).  Franz, JP, and Mo played great, while Houstan stood in the corner doing nothing.  You know, the usual.  Franz is really amazing.  After the opening minutes when it seemed like Banchero was going to be the Magic's primary offensive initiator, the Magic had Franz dribbling the ball up court on what seemed like a majority of possessions, and he was the primary initiator for about 3 quarters.  Really impressive performance.  Watching Mo and Franz work together is pure Colombian awesome.  JP looked like JP -- at times unstoppable on offense, other times pretty lackadaisical.  JP seemed to really shine when he was shooting over the Wagners.  Sometimes it seemed like he held the ball a second longer just to let one of them get in his face.  All in all, a very fun game for a Michigan fan.

I watched it, and I'd say…

I watched it, and I'd say your anticipated reaction is about right.  I literally got stomach flutters watching his runs -- it took me back to my high school days, when I had the exact same reaction live -- and my high school son said something to the effect of, "now I know what you're always talking about, he was awesome."  But I also got mad at the Lions again and remembered why I stopped watching them in protest after Barry retired.  (Things seem better now, and I'm open to becoming a fan again, but I've been mad at them for 30 years.)
