Happy you said it. I feel like people are desperate to defend this show because season 1 was so good. (Reminds me of Brady Hoke.) Season 2 is terrible. Terrible. There are three episodes left and nothing's happened. The shoot out was terrible. Super unrealistic. What cops would execute a search warrant like that without a swat team and helmets (for the love of God, what good is a vest if you leave your dome completely exposed?!?). Vince Vaughn is ridiculous. The writing is terrible, but at least a guy like Colin Farrell can pull it off 50% of the time. Vaughn is stiff, stiff, stiff, and the dialogue isn't doing him any favors. I will watch because there are only three episodes left. I can't believe there are only three episodes left. What a waste.

I don't think I could agree with you any more than I already do. Why are we thanking a guy just for trying to do his job (and failing spectacularly while getting paid way above what the non-crony market would have paid for him)? It was a dumb hire, and that's on DB, but it was a dumb hire because Hoke is not good at his job.

I'm not saying any of them are good. I'll help them all pack up. I'm saying I don't understand why some people seem to be blaming the assistants for Hoke's failures, just like I don't understand why some people blame the players for his failures. He is a bad head coach. From clock management to player development, his failures are his own. He objectively stinks at his job. People should just accept that. All these apologies for Hoke are what terrify me that he's going to be retained.

Do NFL reporters ever acknowledge the possibility of a coach choosing college over NFL? It seems against their interest to do so. I have no confidence that Harbaugh would choose us over an NFL team (please choose us over an NFL team!) but I just don't think an NFL reporter is the most reliable source.

Yeah, he seems like a nice guy who loves Michigan, but he's objectively bad at his job. Which is why he should be fired. And I don't get all these people who are blaming his assistants. They seem better at their job than he does at his. OK, I get we shouldn't dance on his grave, but we should still be glad that he is going to be gone. At least I hope so. Man, who with a brain can't see that he suuuuuuuuuuucks at his job?

I would bet money that's what will happen. Hoke never should have happened, period, but it seems like the thought process that brought him here is impervious to logic. And that means that Hoke 2015 is a high likelihood.

It's this kind of thinking that makes me worry that we will be stuck with Brandon and Hoke for next year and many years to come.

I always got the sense that M-Wolverine worked for the Athletic Department or was somehow affiliated with the program. He implied insider knowledge and was definitely a pro-Lloyd, pro-Hoke, "Michigan Man" (in the bad sense) kind of guy. He reminded me of an AD employee who personally called me after I had a letter published in the Daily critical of Lloyd Carr to tell me I was a jerk and didn't know what I was talking about. I rarely comment, and have only commented twice in ANGAR, but one of those posts was in response to M-W's flaming dickishness. The only negative I can see in banning him is we won't get to enjoy the irony of him making the same defenses of Borges and Hoke that he criticized when offered up for Rich Rod.

If I recall, you were not particularly high on Dawson. Am I wrong? If not, have you changed your mind? If you are still not high on him, can you elaborate on your difference of opinion with the recruiting services?

I was also a freshman during the 1993 Final Four and watched the Kentucky and UNC games at Crisler. To this day, those are two of the best sporting events I ever attended -- even though I was just watching the events on a ginormous TV. It was great to be surrounded by so many fans who were so passionately into the games (even more so than some of the regular season games actually played at Crisler). The Kentucky win was 1000 times better having shared it with all the Maize and Blue Faithful, and the UNC loss was somehow much more tolerable because we all shared in the disappointment; it was like group therapy. I'm too far away to join in this time, but everyone who can should.

Kordell put the ball in the right vicinity (unlike Devin and the Roundtree catch), and it was the actual game winner (same comment), but maybe, just maybe, that tip was karmic payback for Chuck Winters setting up that jump ball for Michael Westbrook. Damn, that still hurts.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Almost exactly the same||
I had never left a game early, but I was burnt to a crisp and feeling pretty dehydrated (not enough Absopure), and Michigan had never overcome that large of a 4th quarter deficit. The worst part is that I convinced my then-girlfriend and best friend to leave with me. Pretty sure they both still hate me for that.
(To a poster above, I skipped that 5-0 Purdue game because I was sick as a dog and convinced I would get pneumonia if I went. Only game I missed in 4 years, but I think I made the right call that time.)

Brian, serious question: In your e-pinion, how does Borges compare to DeBord in terms of predictability? The criticisms you level at Borges seem to be very similar to your criticisms of DeBord (though it's hard for me to believe that anyone can be as predictable as DeBord).

You must not have watched much professional wrestling in the 1980s, from which I learned that Polynesians have the hardest heads and the hardest feet in the world. Their feet were so hard, in fact, that a barefoot kick from a Polynesian was infinitely more devastating than a kick from a shod white guy. Also, Polynesians may excel at jumping off the top rope.Therefore, we should expect that Houma will play with no helmet and no shoes (take that Denard!), and may or may not specialize in going over the top on the goal line.

I am an alumnus who goes to one game a year. One year we went to the Packard Pub and the waitresses were all half naked and pretty good looking; we thought it was a pretty good bar. The next year we went back expecting the same, but it was totally different; the waitresses were not good looking and pretty inattentive to boot, even though the place was dead.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||Hero||
My hero growing up--my grandfather--went to Michigan (BBA and MBA) after his discharge from the Army Air Corps as a Lt. Col. after WW2. If the greatest man I ever knew went to Michigan, then there was no question where my loyalties would lie. He's gone now, but I taught my son, who is named after him, "The Victors" while he was in utero (it works! highly recommended). I hope he has something similar to say about me when he is asked 20 years from now how he became a Wolverine.

"If you look back on our history, you'll notice that many, many times, we were in VaTech's position where we dominated everywhere but the scoreboard. I can think of at least a dozen off the top of my head. It's nice to be on the other end for once."
I was thinking the exact same thing this morning. For example, I was at the Colorado "The Catch" game....

Whenever I read a column in which Lloyd is criticized, my first reaction is to duck because I know some of the readers are going to go on a tirade. My second reaction is to say, "thank you for speaking truth." Lloyd's over-conservative, turtle approach to game calling is why I was never fully a fan.

Doesn't Zingerman's get their corned beef from Neiman Ranch?
I love Zingerman's and went there the Sunday after the Purdue game. But I also tried Frita Batidos (on this site's recommendation) right after the game. To the OP, if you want to add a new and amazing food stop to your trip, you should definitely try FB. My buddy, also a Zingerman's devotee, and I could not stop talking about the chorizo fritas and coconut cream batidos with a splash of rum that we had after the game. Also, I lived in Miami for 5 years, and this blows the Cuban restaurants I went to there out of the water. Incredible.

|3 years 43 weeks ago||General tenor of the RR-Lover||
General tenor of the RR-Lover accusations is that RR-Lovers hate all things not RR, which would include Hoke. Brian's need to constantly invoke "Hoke uber alles" = response to Hoke-hating charge. I didn't listen to the podcast, I was just commenting on Brian's description of it. Lloyd did deserve a lot of criticism for certain things; but criticism =/= hatred, which is what a lot of commenters seem to think.
