We would have beaten them if the game had been played in Ann Arbor. That offensive PI call was ridiculous.

MSU started the year in the top 5, actually.

Is Daxx his actual name or is it some kind of "x-treme" nickname?

I once thought Nussmeier was a rising star. Now I'm wondering if he's another Mike DeBord -a mediocre OC who manages to land jobs at schools with excellent defenses.

This is one of the strangest posts I've ever read here. Unless you are an MSU fan, in which case it would make sense.

Nussmeier was an unbelievable letdown. He seemed like a potentially game-changing hire at the time. Maybe his hands were tied by Hoke (Brandon?), but he showed us nothing, as either an OC or QB coach.

I'm getting the impression that Jeff Casteel may not have been the panacea for our defensive woes under RR.

That reminds me of the creepy old bunny from Goodnight Moon.

For all his shortcomings, I don't think it's fair to pin 2014 on him. I do think we'd have been somewhat better offensively last year with Borges as OC. There were games when he and Gardner "clicked" in a way that never happened with Nussmeier. Senior-year Gardner never came close to the level he played at in the '13 ND and OSU games.
But it's for the best. If Borges had been retained, maybe we'd have eked out seven wins in 2014 and Hoke would still be our coach.

I'm surprised MSU's offensive S&P+ ranking is that high when they've put up pretty ordinary numbers through four weeks. Is this still partially based on last season?
Minnesota and PSU's overall rankings also seem odd.

Imagine spending a substantial sum of money on a trip to DC that includes airfare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the game, only to learn the day of - when you're already in College Park - that the game is going to be cancelled. You might be in a slightly less than good humor.

Whatever the case, it's good for us to play a road game at noon instead of at night before a fired-up crowd.

Brey has reached the Sweet 16 twice in 15 years. Last year aside, he's basically been a slightly richer man's Amaker.

Is he Catholic? It's not unusual for non-Catholics to attend Catholic high schools, especially when they're big sports schools.

They'd be pretty bummed, but most of the Spartan fans I know are more basketball-oriented. They've thoroughly enjoyed the last few seasons of football but they don't really expect it to last.

Scott's season high is 77 yards and he's scored two TDs in four games. I need to see more of him before I call him an upgrade over Jeremy Langford.

If we win out, we'll be a 12-1 Big Ten champion on a 12-game winning streak with wins over OSU and MSU. That would be a playoff résumé, no question. I can't imagine we'd be snubbed if that happened.
Whether we can pull it off on the field is the question.

Nothing is guaranteed, for sure, but when you have a guy who passed for 3,000 yards and 28 TD as a freshman, he's got to be considered the early favorite. I don't know what the deal was last year, but his 2013 season shows that he's got a lot of talent. Didn't they change OCs, or QB coaches?
|5 days 2 hours ago||This all presupposes that he||
This all presupposes that he dislikes playing college football. If he enjoys it, the answer to your question is straightforward.
|5 days 2 hours ago||It's not necessarily that||
It's not necessarily that Harbaugh would be "chasing off" Meyer. I just don't know if Meyer wants to be a college coach forever. He's climbed the mountain three times already.
Chip Kelly inherited a 4-12 Philly team and took them to the playoffs his first two years. Even if they stagnate now, I'm not sure how that could be constituted as flaming out.
|5 days 4 hours ago||I wouldn't necessarily say||
I wouldn't necessarily say that. Spread elements are creeping into the NFL. He'd have to cut down significantly on QB rush attempts, but he could still do a lot of his other stuff.
Whether he would be a good NFL coach, I have no idea. Certainly he could be exposed at that level when his QBs have to make much tougher reads. But he might want to try it out. He can't prove anything else at the college level.

Hackett doesn't follow fashion trends. He creates them.

Well, he's not an NFL coach now, but the man's about 50 years old and already has won three national titles. His college legacy is secure regardless of what he does from here on out (barring some sort of Sanduskyesque scandal). I could see him eventually wanting to give the pros a shot.

I respect the guy for putting himself out there, but he's trying too hard.
|5 days 21 hours ago||That's not necessarily true.||
That's not necessarily true. Successful teams sometimes have players-only meetings. It usually isn't about the coach at all - it's usually about the captains wanting to clear the air with their teammates. It gives players a chance to speak their minds to their teammates when they might not feel comfortable doing so in the presence of the coaches.
If the coach doesn't know about the meeting, though, that is a bit weird.
