Not showing up to the game is pointless. Brandon's bosses (the President and Regents) do not care how many no-shows there are. Most of them don't follow sports. What they care about is the bottom line. If season tickets aren't being sold and donors not giving, that's where it hits the AD. But that's not what the original poster is suggesting. He/she is asking people who bought tickets already to not use them, which punishes no one but the ticketholder (and the team).

OK tough guy - if I do this, you want to give me a refund for my two tickets (which cost a bit more than two Cokes) and one-seventh of the PSL I paid?
|6 hours 39 min ago||Ugh||
Embarrassing. This has become a clown show.
At this point I don't care how involved Brandon personally was in this latest fiasco. There have been far too many under his watch. I'm done.

I don't know if Shane is the answer, but given the monsoon-like conditions out there, I can't read too much into his stats. It was raining really, really hard when he threw that INT - there was no way he could have had a good grip there. (The officials waited a really long time to suspend play. I saw about five lightning flashes before they finally made their decision.)
In terms of mobility, I don't think there is much difference between the two right now. I don't know if Gardner is injured or just tentative, but he looks slower than before. As for Morris. I think he can move pretty well.

And in '04 we beat the other co-champ head to head (Iowa), so we were the true representative.
|1 day 12 hours ago||No.||
First, I think the staff has a right to finish the season. Let's see if they can make lemonade out of lemons. Am I optimistic about that? Not especially, but I'll give them that chance.
Second, I really don't want an interim head coach. Interim coaches have a tendency to perform over their head during that trial period (when the players adopt an "Us against the world" mindset), only to settle to their level of incompentence after (see: Brian Ellerbe). The easiest way out in any coaching search is to promote from within, but very frequently that doesn't work out. If we have to change head coaches, let it be a nationwide search, with no default option.
|1 day 14 hours ago||I'm sad that this||
I'm sad that this conversation has come up. I've really pulled for the guy and he's certainly gone through a lot in his time here. But he doesn't look like a guy with 20-some starts under his belt. He's struggling to make pretty basic throws and his footwork and throwing motion are all over the place. I don't know how much of that you can pin on the OC/QB coach change; there aren't that many different ways to teach a guy how to throw a football. I've got to believe it's a mental thing, but it's odd to see from such an experienced player.
As a runner, too, something seems wrong. He looks a step slower than before, and getting to the corner seems a lot tougher for him. I don't know if that's him being tentative or having some kind of injury, but he doesn't seem like the same runner as before.
Finally, I wonder about him as a leader of the huddle. Does he inspire the same kind of confidence Denard did? Can he rally his teammates to lay it all on the line? The QB has to be able to do that. It seems like this offense gets into funks and then can't snap out of it. The D still seems to play with a lot of fire, but I'm not seeing this from the O.
Does this mean he should be benched? I don't know. Morris looks talented but very, very raw - though he's got that gunslinger's confidence that Gardner once had. If Gardner can find that back, he's the guy, but I don't know if he can.
|1 day 14 hours ago||Actually, Shane's turnover||
Actually, Shane's turnover rate is very similar to Denard's when he was a backup QB. Denard threw four picks in 31 attempts in 2009. Not sure you can really evaluate these guys based on brief mop-up duty.

All three could happen, but I don't think any is set in stone at the moment, and their timetable (Hoke out, then Brandon) doesn't make sense. And Miles? Not going to happen.

I don't think Carr has been employed by the AD since 2010.

There were actually a lot of people upset with Beilein in his third and fourth years. I remember going to games at a half-empty Crisler and hearing a lot of "This system isn't going to get it done" comments from people.
Even those who weren't necessarily calling for Beilein's firing would damn him with faint praise. The feeling was that he was starting to warm up the seat a bit for his successor, who would recruit better than him. For a while, Brian's take on him was basically "Beilein has a low ceiling, but he might make the tournament sometimes, and that's OK."

The other thing was that FSU scored two defensive TDs.
|1 week 5 days ago||The game was close for a||
The game was close for a half, but it all fell apart after we fumbled a punt deep in our territory in the third quarter. IIRC we were down 10-9 at the time. The D then fell cracked and on offense, one matchup just killed us - our RT absolutely got abused by their star DE. Navarre had no chance on a lot of pass plays.
|1 week 5 days ago||True, but the game gradually||
True, but the game gradually opened up over the course of his tenure and by the late '80s, passing had become a lot more sophisticated. It was only two years after he retired that Desmond won the Heisman as a WR.
What jumps out when you look at Bo's seasons is that he didn't even have many losses by 10-14 points, either. Almost all of his losses were close, winnable games.

Bo is assigned the loss in that Rose Bowl, but he wasn't there; he'd been hospitalized with a heart attack.

I don't have quite the time to post now that I used to. I still visit the site when I get a chance.

1. He has no head coaching experience.
2. He's apparently not great on the recruiting trail.
3. It's not clear how much of MSU's defensive success is due to him as opposed to Dantonio.

Brian's written some great stuff after big wins. His columns after we beat MSU in basketball are always fantastic.

Elite coaches generally don't care about why the previous guy got fired - they figure it'll never happen to them.
The attractiveness of this job is not the concern here.

They are trying to get more of a 60/40 in-state/out-of-state ratio now (as opposed to the traditional 70/30), but both groups have a harder time getting admitted than ever before.

Actually it's exactly the reverse. Twenty years our acceptance rate was around 60%. It's been plummeting in recent years, especially after we went to the Common Application.

Like most children's songs, "Alouette" has rather grim origins but has been oddly repackaged as a song for little ones. Its origins actually have to do with the starving settlers of early French Canada, who rejoiced in finding a source of nutrition in this humble bird, so much so that they sang with each body part they de-feathered.

IIRC, there are some seats at Ryan Field where you can't see the main scoreboard. Other than that, yeah, the seating is decent enough.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||Completely different reaction||
Completely different reaction here. I don't blame OSU for accepting this game when offended. OTOH, it is the absolute height of hypocrisy/cowardice for ND to claim it can't play us because it needs a more "national" schedule, and then turn around and play another Big Ten team three hours away. On those two days I will suspend all OSU hate and hope they destroy ND.

Maybe not phrase it in those words, but rather, something like this:
"Coach, suppose a man pledged to eat a lemon if certain conditions were met and these conditions were, in fact, fulfilled. How would you feel about this man if he now is trying to back out of his pledge?"
