Game threads are of full of idiocy. People come up with a lot of dumb things to say in the heat of the moment. I would not take that as a measure of the fanbase as a whole.
There is too much of this pre-emptive arguing ("This is for ___________") going on here in general. A lot of people - even some of the writers - are guilty of it. It just invites more arguing. ("I never said that. You're mischaracterizing my position...")
Just state your position. You don't need to pre-emptively defend it.

Not all points expired after a year. It was only points accummulated in a very specific timeframe (under one version of the server, I think). Most of my points are still left over from the pos-bang era.
|1 day 12 hours ago||Yeah, just based just on what||
Yeah, just based just on what I've read here, it seems unfair to label M-Wolverine and Chitownblue as "concern trolls." They certainly were/are Michigan fans and while they could be contrarian, I thought they generally made fair points. Now, it's true that they could be argumentative, and I may have missed some of the stuff they said that really ticked Brian off (I rarely visit the recruiting threads and never saw the really controversial one). So I don't know, maybe the bans are in fact justified. In any event I felt like they did bring some good with the bad.
There is no doubt though that the level of civility here has gone down. Granted, I think it's tied to a large degree over frustration with the football season, but the moderation probably needs to come back. And if people are actually giving Brian crap in person, that's pathetic.
|1 day 15 hours ago||But that's the thing - we're||
But that's the thing - we're not (and I don't think we ever have been) a seeded team, which means that we've got to play one of the seeded teams in our group every time. Other than Switzerland, all of the seeded teams this year are really tough, as they usually are. At that point, you've basically got to hope for two crappy opponents to round out your group, and that's not too likely.
(This brings up my age-old rant that CONCACAF sucks. It may be easy to qualify for the WC from there, but it's terrible when it comes to actually preparing us to play in it, not to mention the fact that all its garbage teams are a drag on our ranking. There should be a single confederation for all of the Americas.)

It has a lot to do with the fact that we're not all that good, so we're usually going to be in a group with at least one team that is better than us.

Disagree. If you notice, top-level salaries haven't really changed much since A-Rod signed his insane deal a decade ago. It's very hard to justify paying that much for one player. $25M is a lot of tickets to sell.

At Boise, Hawkins went 12-1, 13-1 and 11-1 in 2002, 2003 and '04 respectively. He didn't go undefeated, but had them on the brink.

I would never want to give a guy a 10-year contract. That is guaranteed to become a millstone around the franchise's neck down the road. There is zero chance he plays at a level worthy of that salary in his last few years.

Not sure about that - Belgium has an excellent team (maybe its best ever) and is really on a roll at the moment.
|1 day 19 hours ago||If I'm following this||
If I'm following this correctly, at least one of Brasil, Spain or the Netherlands will not make it to the quarterfinals. Wow.
|1 day 19 hours ago||No kidding - although||
No kidding - although everyone said that four years ago as well. France seems to play to its competition.
|1 day 19 hours ago||I don't think it will happen||
I don't think it will happen as long as we are in CONCACAF. The level of competition in this confederation is just too low to offer the U.S. (or Mexico for that matter) good preparation.
|1 day 19 hours ago||I would not compare us to USC||
I would not compare us to USC or Miami - those places struggle to sell out even when they're good. Texas, maybe. For a historically elite school, I would not say our fanbase is that harsh. The 100,000 streak has survived some rough times.

Petersen didn't build that program up. It was good before he got there. Actually, what's interesting is that none of his Boise predecessors has had much success after leaving for a bigger school.

Actually they went 7-2 on the road in 1992-93.

Why does Funchess need to change? I think 87 is a pretty badass receiver's number.
|2 days 17 hours ago||Who was the last 3000 yard||
Navarre in 2003 posted the only 3,000-yard season in school history. Gardner's 2013 season is already #2 all-time.

Wouldn't the best-case scenario involve OSU losing in Pasadena? Why would we want them undefeated?

Nebraska couldn't stop anybody from running the ball? Hmm, I can think of one team...

I wonder if players have ever run to the opposing sideline in cases like that, just to get off the field. Would that be legal?

I thought this thread was going to be about this:

I wouldn't say that. It's been worn exclusively by wide receivers since AC was here. No one had to earn it before Braylon, but there was a mystique around it already (which is probably why Braylon wanted it).
|2 days 19 hours ago||And quite a few outstanding||
And quite a few outstanding OTs have worn #77.
|2 days 19 hours ago||I'm not totally sure about||
I'm not totally sure about your last point. If Morris had been the holder he'd have probably been in position - it was on the near hash and he was right there on the sideline. There's no doubt that Dileo made a clutch hold though.

I do root for Detroit teams, and I never even made the Yzerman connection. Different sport.
|2 days 19 hours ago||You can defend the KCP pick||
You can defend the KCP pick in basketball terms. It wasn't the worst pick in the world in terms of helping the team. But in terms of giving the team a shot in the arm in terms of fan interest, it was a mistake. I was once a big Piston fan but have become totally apathetic in recent years. That would have changed if they'd drafted Burke. I would have watched him any chance I could. I would have considered buying tickets to go to games. That is not the case now. KCP doesn't move the needle for me. It's nothing against him - it's just not enough to make me care about the Pistons again. I know quite a few people who feel the same way.
|2 days 20 hours ago||Even if you value football||
Even if you value football over basketball, the simple fact that basketball is one of the two marquee college sports should be important to you. It gives you bragging rights anywhere in the country.
|2 days 20 hours ago||OSU recruited extremely well||
OSU recruited extremely well under Cooper and continued to do so under Tressel. It's not clear how much of a recruiting bonus they reaped from that one win. They were going to get good players regardless.
Actually, you could argue that a basketball national title would yield greater benefits even in football recruiting. Nothing puts a school on the map like a national title.
|2 days 21 hours ago||If that game had been the||
If that game had been the biggest upset, it's more a statement of how bad our season went up to then than anything. Very few people outside of Ohio think OSU is a legit national title contender. The consensus is that they;re a very one-dimensional team that has played extremely weak schedules this year and last. I don't know how you can compare that to a national championship, unless you really don't care about basketball at all.

The Pistons were sold two years ago to Tom Gores. Dumars has had a free hand since then.
