Clayton was interviewed by Matt Dery on Detroit's 105.1 a couple of weeks before U of M hired Harbaugh. Dery asked him where Harbaugh would end up. Clayton mentioned 4 or 5 NFL teams, the usual suspects - Raiders, Jets, etc. Dery had to bring Michigan up and Clayton VERY dismissively said " Uh, no. No chance. He wants to stay in the NFL." Another clueless NFL guy.

What? I was sure they'd hire quarterbacks coach JimBob Cooter from the Lions for the passing game coordinator position!

I can't see a kid going to Purdue because Ohio State won a National Championship.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Good for the conference? Yes.||
Good for the conference? Yes. National respectability? Yes, that's why it would be good for the conference. A boon for recruiting? Not so sure about the rest of the conference, maybe just for Ohio State, which would be bad.
I won't be rooting for them.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Ugh. The "Ohio" thing was so annoying||
I hope that will go away now that Hoke is gone. Sorry, just my opinion.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||I think it'll be a difficult decision||
I think he's torn. It'll be hard for him to leave Kentucky, where it appears he is an important part of building a winner where they've never really had success.On the other hand, he could be a part of a national championship contender eventually at Michigan. Wouldnt surprise me either way.

I agree, if Manning is retained, there is no way he will be coaching DBs again. Everyone knows how that turned out.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||I'm worried about Shane||
Shane looked awful this year. Hopefully Harbaugh can salvage him. If not, Malzone and Speight will have to step up, unless we can land a JC player or transfer.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Recruiting well is great, but...||
I hope we are getting good football coaches, first and foremost. Recruiting hasn't been a problem, player development has been our greatest problem.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Outstanding might be an overstatement||
Hoke was very good, though. As someone else said, the classes were ranked higher than Lloyd's final years and RichRod's classes. When I think of reasons why Hoke failed here, recruiting doesn't make the list. Talent level was certainly well above their 5-7 record this year.

This entire staff needs to go, including Mattison and Jackson, in my opinion. This team has played like they are entitled for years. No one is afraid of Michigan anymore. Our players don't play tough, physically and especially mentally. When they get punched in the mouth, so to speak, they don't know how to respond.
Mattison hasn't done much with a decent amount of talent, except for that 1st season. Every good offense we played ripped us to shreds this season.
I understand the reasons for keeping Mattison...recruiting, continuity, etc. so I guess I'll live with that, lol.

That game is one of the painful memories of my adolescence. I was thirteen and I bawled like a baby when it was over.

That site is finally admitting that Harbaugh is signed: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/29/report-jim-harbaugh-signs-with-michigan/
Of course they had to add this caveat at the end:
"Few believe Michigan will be Harbaugh's last stop. After he resurrects the program, he can resume the chase for the Lombardi trophy - and he can wait for the perfect opportunity to arise.
Indeed many believe Harbaugh opted for his alma mater simply because a competitive alternative never materialized in the NFL, despite persistant leaks aimed at getting one or more owners to come to the table with considerable cash."
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Did Clayton show any humility||
Did Clayton show any humility over how wrong he's been? He was on Detroit's 105.1 a couple of weeks ago at most. Was asked about Harbaugh and he only mentioned NFL jobs...Oakland, the Jets, etc. The host had to prod him about Michigan and he very dismissively said no, no chance.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Good riddance Mattison||
About a week ago someone on this site said U of M has a good defense. Wrong. They crap the bed against any competent offense they face, and collapse at key times. The OSU score before halftime is a perfect example, it was devastating and killed Michigan's momentum.
I may be happier to see Mattison go than Hoke, I had high expectations for the defense under this regime. They failed miserably.

If Hoke comes back, the university will show they've given up on the football program, and fans will follow suit.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Hopefully the regents and||
Hopefully the regents and president think of the consequences of keeping Brandon and letting him hire the next head coach. Is saving those millions worth giving up on the football program?
How many years has it been since the football team has really been relevant? (2011 notswithstanding) Add another 4 years to that after Brandon's next stooge fails, and you will have essentially handed Brandon a shovel to toss the final piles of dirt on Michigan's football program.
I don't think very many intelligent people believe Brandon has a clue how to turn around the football program, or even if he did, that his ego wouldn't get in the way. I'm hoping that will be his undoing. If not, I'll have to find something else to do on Saturday afternoons.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||It's his opinion...||
Feel free to disagree with him, but unfortunately I think he'll be proven right. This is by far the best defense we've faced this season. Given the shaky play of the interior of the OL, Devin's tendency to turn the ball over under pressure, the complete lack of a running game, our underwhelming defense, our mediocre road record under Hoke, and our propensity to play without the same fire and intensity that MSU does in this game, and that spells trouble. There just isn't much reason to be optimistic.
|1 year 16 weeks ago||Jake Ryan||
You guys are putting a lot of hope in a guy coming back from an ACL injury. I don't think he'll be the same player until next season, but I hope I'm wrong.
|1 year 16 weeks ago||Yeah, but...||
Yes, but the game was quite a bit closer than the score indicates, right? It was 14-7 at the half.
Both the o-line and d-line have looked very average at times against inferior opponents. Its worrisome.
Yes, the Big Ten isn't good, but I don't see this team beating MSU or Northwestern on the road or Ohio State at home. Happy Valley next week could be tough, too.
|1 year 21 weeks ago||You mean Ohio?||
Thanks for not calling them Ohio. This is a wonderful site in so many ways, but sometimes the herd mentality is annoying.

Jason King has U of M out of the top 25 next year. He thinks all four of Michigan's NBA prospects will leave. Meanwhile, he has MSU keeping everyone and ranked #3. Michigan State fan?

What's makes it worse is Shaka is close friends with Akron's coach. I don't get it.

It's not rocket science. It's not luck. We don't play good defense consistently. And that's probably being too kind.

They can thank the refs and our inability to make free throws in the clutch.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||you forgot something||
You got the misspelling part but you forgot to say he should be fired per OMG Shirtless' description.
|1 year 48 weeks ago||bad game?||
Bad game? They haven't played well in weeks. This team refuses to hustle defensively, and it's gonna kill them in the BT tournament and the NCAA tournament.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||It was more than just an awful game...||
It was more than just an awful game, this team got manhandled and then....it appeared to me they flat out quit. This team and coaching staff needs to take a serious look in the mirror because you just can't perform like that against your rival if you want to be considered a good program. Quitters should not ever wear a Michigan uniform, and that's what they appeared to be last night.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||Yep, you are the voice of reason||
Yep, you are the voice of reason. Based on what we've seen so far this season, there is really no reason to believe we'll beat MSU on the road. The game will probably unfold exactly as Cold War says: fall way behind early, comeback, then lose. I think we'll lose by 8-12 points.
|3 years 12 weeks ago||Moss has no concept of boundaries||
He tweets Mark Schlereth asking him why his son sucks. He likes to call someone's daughter the c word in a public forum just because he has a beef with the father and wants to get under his skin. I mean, it doesn't really bother me, but he has issues.
He's brutally honest about expressing his opinions on local sports media figures. He used to skewer Mike Valenti as the phony loudmouth hack that he is, but now they tweet each other like they're twitter buddies. Disappointing.
