I got my hat and hoodie on Wed from MDEN. I ordered right after the game. I live in NJ.

Nice one trustBlue. Spit out my beer it was so funny.

You have to think that GGG…

You have to think that GGG is rewarding those that help get the US to the world cup.  Yedlin's cross to Pepi in the game against Honduras changed the landscape of the first qualifying window.  It goes from 3 points, to 5 points with one cross and header.

You have to swap Jedi…

You have to swap Jedi Robinson and Dest.  Jedi is a left back and Dest plays the right back position when Jedi is in the game. I'm swapping Reyna for Aaronson and Ferreira for Weah.  I'll let Weah run at tired legs.  I think Aaronson starts a game that we're playing not to lose.  If it's a must win, I'd choose Reyna.

Pefok played on Sunday in…

Pefok played on Sunday in Union Berlin's game. I agree Reyna is the best player in the pool. I also think the MMA midfield controls the game well.  I don't know who you leave out if you play MMA in the midfield.  Reyna, Pulisic, Weah, Aaronson, Ferreira fighting for 3 spots.  For me it's Reyna, Pulisic and Ferreira.

Agreed, exactly 1/2 going 0…

Agreed, exactly 1/2 going 0-1 is very unlikely.

68 teams make the tourney.  The maximum number of teams that can go 0-1 is 36 teams (4 play in, 32 teams in round 64 -- the 4 play in winners, also win in round 64).   The minimum number of teams that can go 0-1 is 32 (4 play in, 28 teams in round 64 -- the 4 play in winners lose in round 64 and go 1-1).  So yes, more than half the teams can go 0-1.

Wonder if "Newcaslte" is the way they spell it in the U.K.  Same goes for "Brigthon".

Abraham was sold to Roma a couple weeks ago.  With Chelsea's formation under Tuchel, there are only 3 attacking spots available.  3 back line, 2 wingers, and 2 mid-fielders (Kante, Jorginho, or Kovacic).  I think Tuchel's A lineup has Lukaku, Havertz and Mount starting, with the Bs including Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech.  You may see Pulisic play in one of the wing back spots throughout the season, similar to how Hudson-Odoi was used last season.

Thanks Gameboy.  If I'm ever in WA, I'll definitely take you up on that offer.  I'm always buying / selling stuff on golfwrx, JM3 there too.

It would be tough to average…

It would be tough to average in the 80s if you're 3 jacking all of the greens.  I remember watching Spieth putt when he won at Chambers and thought to myself, I'd hit 40 putts a round there.  Two things I did this year to help my short game:

1) Bought an armlock putter.  Makes me rock my shoulders and reduces how much hands I use in the putting stroke.  Not for everyone, but helps me start the ball online.

2) I watched a video on how to properly use the bounce on your wedges around the greens and it's helped a lot.  Hitting fat and thin can be reduced if you just use the bounce of the wedges properly.  Check out some videos on youtube. Has helped me quite a bit.

Summer is almost here my friend.  Hit-em long and straight and hope you have a good golf season.

Punta Espada in Cap Cana,…

Punta Espada in Cap Cana, should be beautiful.  Corrales is great and near by.  If you can get to Casa de Campo, Dye Fore and Teeth of the Dog are two great tracks.

Gameboy, I'm a nice guy too…

Gameboy, I'm a nice guy too.  Can we be friends and can I be friends with your friends? J/K.  Very impressive list of courses you've played.  If Chambers Bay is your home course and you are a 13, you're probably a single digit at most clubs.  As a younger golfer, I use to be able to remember all of the courses I played and how the holes were setup.  Now, I try to rush through 18 and barely get to enjoy the layout and the natural surroundings.

My top 3 are:

- Bethpage Black:  Was even par after 4 with 3 birdie putts under 15 feet.  Took a 10 on 5 and ended up shooting in the 90s.

- Seaside Course, Sea Island GA:  Wonderful layout. Played in the summer and it seemed like they painted the greens "green" so that they would look better.

- The Bear, Traverse City: Very well maintained.  Played 36 in a day.  Lots of fun.

If you get an invite to Pine Valley and need a 4th, let me know, I can be there is 30 mins. :)

I shudder to think what…

I shudder to think what Tiger would have done if his dad didn't die.  Earl knew his son's golf swing and game.  Golf is a game of 'tips'.  Hackers and pros alike are looking for that one "swing thought" to help them play better.  Earl's ability to give Tiger tips about his swing and maybe about his infidelities could have resulted in a "19" major Tiger.

It's pretty simple.  Follow…

It's pretty simple.  Follow the golf course rules.  If they want you to finish in 4 and 1/2 hours, you should try your best to do so.  If they allow music on the course and it gets to loud, I'm sure a ranger will come tell you to turn it down.  Just like you're asked to fix ball marks and rake the traps, you should pick up after yourself and not leave trash on the course. Last but not least, have fun. Any day golfing is better than a day working.

I started golfing at 15 with a neighbor.  The very first thing he taught me was golf etiquette and how to improve pace of play.  You should always prepare for your shot while your playing partners are hitting.  Play ready golf.  Always put your wedges / bag /cart in the direction of the next hole so that when you hole out, you're walking toward the next hole.

Or Seth thinks all look same…

Or Seth thinks all look same.  It would be like us posting a picture of Seth Rogen and saying we need more Seths on Mgoblog.

Don't forget about Tyler…

Don't forget about Tyler Adams as well.  He regularly starts for RB Leipzig (Bundesliga, Champions League qualifier) and is also only 21.  He's the U.S. version of Ngolo Kante.  Won't score a lot of goals or get a lot of assists, but he reads the game well.  I hope Gio Reyna turns into a stud and gives the U.S. a nice one two punch upfront.

I think Dest and Reyna are…

I think Dest and Reyna are both going to be great players, but because of the position they play, they likely won't get as much recognition as Pulisic, especially if he continues to score goals and rack up assists.  Dest is a fullback/wing back, has great foot work and will get many assist playing in the Dutch Eredivisie which is not known for defense.  Reyna will pull the strings as he gets older and will be a playmaker, similar to maybe Kaka. If Pulisic continues to contribute for Chelsea, he'll be regarded as the best American ever and rightfully so.  Tyler Adams is another to watch and I like Weston McKennie as a player. He's a tough minded US national and I think he'll protect Pulisic as Concacaf teams have tried to physically beat up Pulisic.  Our Men's national team has more talent than ever, especially at the skilled positions.  Add in a little veteran leadership and hopefully we qualify easily for 2022.  I wrote this in a post a couple years ago.  Concacaf teams have greatly benefited because of MLS.  MLS has made the likes of Costa Rica, Panama, Hondorus, Jamaica stronger teams.  It's not just the US and Mexico anymore.

I'm a small business owner. …

I'm a small business owner.  Last year we did 5m in sales, this year, probably 3.5m.  We'll close 2 of our 5 retail operations, try to renegotiate lease deals, and trim our staff by 20%.  We applied for the PPP loan on April 7th (2nd day Chase's loan app was live) and did not have our application submitted to SBA before funds ran out. Love for the economy to be robust and grow, but the market is "completely divorced from reality".  Big companies who are allowing employees to work from home have also cut salaries, some by as much as 20%. Entire sectors like the flower market have crashed.  It's an election year.  Having a strong stock market will benefit some.

100% agree with Couzen Rick's.

My fandom for Michigan…

My fandom for Michigan football took a hit last year after the thrashing at "the" OSU.  It took another hit two weeks ago when we barely beat Army.  I realized were weren't going to be great, so much so that I didn't even bother watching the game live this week.  You wrote about momentum and how it affects a program. As a subset, momentum could have been the key to this game as well.  Down 7-0, we move the ball to Wisconsin's 7, only to lose a fumble.  In a better world, game is tied 7-7.  A series later, with the score 7-0, we have a beautiful catch by Ronnie Bell taken away.  That catch gets us to mid-field and perhaps, our offense converts.  Touchdown or field goal and we actually lead in Madison.  How does that affect the team.  How does momentum carry us forward in this game if things go our way early in the first quarter?

Being poor and being made…

Being poor and being made fun because of it has a lasting impact, and for many, this stays with them well into adulthood. I grew up poorer than poor in Flint. We couldn’t buy anything that was branded and my first licensed Michigan coat was stolen. It wasn’t made by the popular “Starter” brand either. I built credit card debt in college buying clothes and shoes to fit in.  I’m 41 and I still worry about what others think of my gear.

Good for you kid! Nothing…

Good for you kid! Nothing better than being a student at Michigan and enjoying the games. Cheer hard!  I was a sophomore in '97 the year we won it. Had to sell my OSU ticket to finance the Rose Bowl ticket.  Wish I was in the stadium for that win, but the Rose Bowl win was oh so sweet. Here's to hoping we win another while you're in school.

This is a pretty bad…

This is a pretty bad comparison. Most of Day’s recruits are Urban’s. Plus Urban is retiring after winning the Big Ten and barely missing out on the playoffs. Plus Day was named the HC in early Dec. Plus Day is a college coach and was already recruiting. Harbaugh took over for Hoke who finished 5-7, was just coming from the NFL, and was hired on Dec. 30th. Of course Days transition class will be better.

Google says 8 #2 seeds have…

Google says 8 #2 seeds have lost in the first round.  Only 1 #1 seed has lost and that was just last year.  I think the selection committee under values mid-majors and puts them on the #15 seed line, when in fact there are some very good mid-major teams.  I'll take my luck against a #16.  They're usually really bad.

This has to be the case…

This has to be the case right? We played vanilla from the 10 yard line in.  Here's to hoping we see more creativity next week in the red zone.

This man is correct.  99.9%…

This man is correct.  99.9% of us would have taken 10-1, beating MSU, going to Columbus with a chance to win the Big Ten East and playing non-Wisconsin for the title.  Cherry on top is making it to the playoffs.  It's been a fun season to watch and here's to beating the Buckeyes next week.  Go Blue!

I don’t think the safety was…

I don’t think the safety was a safety either. In a close game I would’ve bet the call get overturned and the ball is placed on the half-yard line.

I don’t put as much blame on…

I don’t put as much blame on Hawkins as Brian does for the SMU passing TD. In this play I see Long losing his footing and is completely beat off the line of scrimmage. Hawkins at this instance has to make a quick decision to cover the inside or outside receiver, he chooses wrong, but if he chooses the outside receiver the inside receiver also picks up a bunch of yards. I would give Hawkins a -1.5 and Long a -2.5. If Long doesn’t stumble, Hawkins covers the outside receiver properly.

I want to see air-raid, WSU…

I want to see air-raid, WSU style. Let Patterson throw the ball 50 times.  Hopefully his jersey will stay clean and he'll break the record for most passing yards in a game for a Michigan QB.  Gives him confidence, gives the young WRs/TEs confidence, and hopefully gives the line pass-pro confidence.  I'm high on Patterson and I think he can win us some games with his arm/legs.  Running the ball for 300 yds against Western doesn't do much for me and I can't see us running the ball well against Wisconsin or OSU.

You guys are great, but this…

You guys are great, but this podcast, as someone stated earlier, was 'too much talking over each other'.  Hope you guys take this as constructive criticism.  Also hope your health is better and can't wait to hear your thoughts throughout the season. Go Blue!

I had to goggles Arabian googles. Didn’t like what I saw.

Trey’s trey

Trey’s trey for me. I ran around my house after Poole’s ball went in, but let’s be honest, that was a heave and the gods were on our side. Trey got to his spot on the court and made an amazing shot. Poole’s result however was obviously more climatic as it ended the game. Burke’s got us to OT.

Cleaves was always going to be a Spartan

I went to school with Mateen from 2nd grade to high school graduation. He was always the biggest Spartan fan and probably still owes me a dollar or two from our bets as kids for the UM/MSU football games. He was destined for MSU. Mo-Pete wasn’t heavily recruited out of high school and at that time Michigan was recruiting nationally. Antonio Smith, also a Flintstone was a more highly recruited player than Mo-Pete and chose MSU. Michigan also lost out on Robaire Smith, Antonio’s brother, a DT/DE that went on to play in the NFL. Those Flint boys were always about MSU. They weren’t going to Michigan.

Good healthy discussion.

Thanks for the comment, this is good healthy discussion. I'm too young to consider Pele as part of my generation.  He did most of his work in the 60s, early 70s.  Others will argue that Maradona or/and Ronaldo are better players than Messi, partially because they've won trophies at the international level.  I don't know enough about soccer to engage in those conversations.

"Maybe Messi does something great next summer, but history is against him", is all the more reason for me to root for him.  Root for the underdog, and hope that one of the greatest of all time can bring home a trophy for his country.  I assume he's a GOD in Argentina.  Is there a bigger word for him if he brings home the world cup trophy?

*btw, I always enjoy reading your posts*

MLS has some blame for the US not qualifying.

This was said by a talking head on ESPN, not an original thought.  MLS is partially to blame for the U.S. not qualifying because it's made the other teams in CONCACAF better.  More and more players from Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, the Caribbean Islands are playing in MLS.  Although not a top domesitc league in the World, still top 2 in North America with Liga MX and offers valuable training and game experience against our US MLS players.  We are not only developing our talent, but others in our region as well.

Argentina because of Messi

sorry double post

Argentina because of Messi

Arguably top 2 best player in our generation.  I prefer him to others because he seems to go about his business, rarely dives and I've never witnessed a game where he fakes an injury to draw a card.  He seems like a classy player (Real Madrid fans will likely disagree) and he's delivered for his team.  I'd like to see him win one to cap off his career. Sucks Pulisic will be watching from home.  He's the best U.S. player I've seen and shows a lot of heart, unlike some of the other players on the pitch last night.

Sometimes Michigan improves with an early departure

Sometimes Michigan improves with an early departure too.  Think back to Darius Morris and how many of us didn't think he should leave after his sophmore year.  In Morris's case, I don't know if he would've improved his draft stock/made more guaranteed money if he stayed another year or two.  What we do know is that Michigan handed the keys to freshman Trey Burke and let him play 30+ mins his freshman year.  This valuable on court experience resulted in player of the year Trey Burke his sophmore year, and Michigan in the championship game vs. Louisville.  Maybe there's a silver lining to DJ leaving early.

+1

too funny!

duck 2 ways

I would recommend duck 2 ways.  I'd butcher the duck so that I had 4 pieces of meat, 2 thigh -leg parts, 2 breasts.  Take the skin/fat from the other parts and render down for duck fat. Connfit the thigh - legs and serve over a medley of greens (salad).  Main course of duck breast, medium rare with roasted fingerling potatoes or beets.

actually...

Paramus is a borough in Bergen county.  Don't think the town was named after either school, likely the other way around.

Congrats - anyone else notice the Jordan's???

Congrats to the kid, wish him luck at Michigan, But wow, anyone notice the maize and blue Jordan 12 and 14s? I saw a flyer with all the Jordan's in maize and blue and assumed they were photoshopped. Seeing the 12s in maize and blue makes me drool. How great would it be to have Jordan brand release the 11s and 12s in Michigan colors for public consumption?

Hart was pretty good

Mike Hart was pretty good his freshman year. He set a Michigan record for most rushing yards in a season by a freshman: 1455 yds. credit: wikipedia, not WD.

Rules Question on the Peppers throwback

You may know the answer or maybe someone else will chime in.  At 5:51 of your highlight video, Peppers throwback to Speight, the handoff occurs forward of the QB.  If Speight 'tosses/pitches' it forward, they score this in the stat sheet as a pass / catch.  I'm wondering why the refs didn't flag this as an illegal forward pass on Speight's 2nd throw?  Was it simply because they considered it a handoff even though Peppers was forward of the QB?  If this was an out of time desparation play with many laterals beyond the line of scrimmage, I don't think the refs would allow a forward handoff without flagging it as an illegal forward pass.

Darboh keeping his feet

Darboh played an amazing game, with some spectacular catches.  Would’ve liked to have seen him keep his feet on the post route where Speight made a play by avoiding the blitzer.  Darboh keeps his feet and it’s 21-10.  Instead we end up having to kick a 23 yd fg.  Our receivers have been pummeled on a couple of crossing routes this year and I think Darboh was expecting contact that never came.  Anyone else notice that our WRs are going to ground early when making a catch?

And Big Worm

And Big Worm

Yep Brandon Graham

I'm with this guy HAIL HARBO.  Brandon Graham was a beast.  Dr Blitz maybe wouldn't need to call so many blitzes with a line of Graham, Gary, Charlton, Wormley, Glasgow, Mone, Hurst, etc.

He brought Wilson into the box

He brought Wilson into the box and Barrett immediately hit Marshall with a touchdown over the top of Clark and Hill.  Great play by the OSU receiver and good recognition by Barrett to see Wilson playing run.  Said over and over again, we're not a deep team and to lose so much on the d-line did us in. Hurst, Henry, Wormley, and Charlton were all gassed. No trust in Godin or Strobel based on the Indiana game. They played more plays in the last 2 games on average than they did all year.
