They don't get drunk or swear, two hallmarks of high quality schadenfreude.

Outlook actually has a built-in RSS feed reader. Add the mgoblog feed and then you can read it within Outlook, no browser required. If someone walks too close, you can just click over to the Mail pane - much more discreet than minimizing or alt-tabbing away from your browser.

whereabouts do you practice? I'm a patent attorney in metro Detroit.

Between having kids, working a real grown-up job, and the program collapsing upon itself, my fandom basically died over the last 5ish years. I haven't been to a game in a couple seasons, despite living in Ann Arbor. Last fall I couldn't even muster the enthusiasm to turn on the TV.
But this year... I'm getting a bit of the old feeling back too. Only a little bit, but it's a spark.

Given the timing, doesn't it seem likely that this is related to the nationwide push against sexual assaults on college campuses? Every article or report on the topic seems to implicate binge drinking as a major factor in many assaults. I doubt it's a coincidence that only now is the university stepping up its policing of student drinking.

Aston Martin Vanquish for me:
And then one of these for the wife and kids:
(Oh, and a heads-up for everyone who's experiencing the squished/stretched image: edit your post, double-click on the image, and delete the height and width in the popup window. That will let the image resize to fit the page width properly.)

One is the Buffalo Stampede play, posted above. The other is this bit of writing from Brian's college days:

My understanding of airpush is that they use ads in your notification bar. What I (and I assume others) am experiencing is a browser redirect: I visit mgoblog, then while the page is loading, the browser is redirected to some other website and eventually to the play store page for some mobile app.

'cause I just posted the same thing on the board, and we're far from the only ones affected.
|6 weeks 4 days ago||Glad to know I'm not the only one...||
That was the first reason I posted.
Now as for the second reason, maybe some mod can take notice and alert our fearless leader? I doubt Brian is particularly keen on his readership being unwillingly redirected to download Game of War.

I saw Colin Hay in concert a couple of years ago, and he was a hell of a storyteller. The gist of one of his stories was that thanks to the brief "Kookaburra" quote on the flute in the recording, he has to pay a quarter of his royalties for "Land Down Under" to the guy who owned the "Kookaburra" rights.

I'm surprised you were the first one to bring it up, since I figured that Sandman was low-hanging fruit. Gaiman's writing is fantastic as always, and McKean's cover artwork was frequently museum-worthy.

The band OK Go partnered with Chevrolet to make this music video, an excerpt of which was used as a Super Bowl commercial a few years ago. I like this version of the song better than the original:

I was making that exact edit to my comment after reading the article. But now that you've commented, my ignorance is preserved for all eternity.

Most MICHIGAN thing: I was in the marching band. My senior year, Gerald Ford passed away. There was going to be a memorial service in the Rotunda, and then Air Force One would fly the casket to Grand Rapids for his family. There was also going to be a small ceremony at the Grand Rapids airport for his family and a few dignitaries. While typically the Marine band would play at this event, Ford had specified in his will that he wanted the Michigan Marching Band. (And also that he wanted AF1 to do a fly-by of the football stadium en route.)
Gerald Ford passed away in late December of 2006, so the MMB got word of these plans while preparing for the 2007 Rose Bowl. After reaching Pasadena, we learned that the ceremony was to take place on January 2.
On January 1, 2007, we woke up at 4 AM, marched the Rose Parade, played in the Rose Bowl, went to the airport, hopped on a plane, and flew straight to Grand Rapids. The next morning we played The Victors and the Yellow and Blue while marines carried Ford's casket from the airplane to the waiting hearse. Afterwards, his son came over to tell us all how much it would have meant to his father to see us there.

I believe that Michigan has won every single year that EDSBS has run this event, typically by a large margin.
Unfortunately I can't think of a clever dollar amount to donate this year. I tried HARBAUGH, but that wasn't accepted.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||I almost hate to say this...||
It didn't sound like an actual Emerson quote to me, so I googled it. Apparently the speaker was one Wayne Woodrow Hayes, as quoted in Rosenberg's book War As They Knew It.

I haven't been in a couple years, but as a former North Campus resident I enjoyed Cafe Marie, near Plymouth and Murfin. Not sure if they do takeout, though.

We have a blue heeler, and she is the best frickin' dog I've ever had.

|1 year 5 weeks ago||Thanks in advance to the volunteers...||
Thanks in advance, folks. I haven't really been able to keep up with this recently. (Surprise! Having a toddler makes it hard to watch the games, let alone stay active on mgoblog.)
I thought I'd weigh in real quick to answer a couple of the questions that popped up. Google makes editing the maps really straightforward. I'll add the volunteers as approved map editors and send out a quick How-To, but it's not hard. As far as knowing what places to add, I just visited the Bar Location thread every now and again and made changes based on suggestions from posters in the thread, along with any other related forum threads I saw. I also checked the "official" list to make sure the map was consistent with their locations.
m1817: that is just the list of official alumni club locations. The map is an attempt to also include "M-Friendly" bars, i.e. those that will always have the game on and have regular Michigan attendance, even if it's not sanctioned by the alumni association. If you check out the map, every blue pin indicates a non-official location (and there are a lot of them).
