In the comments for the "how close are we" diary, there's some spam from a user named JGZ59146. Looks like he's done the same in a few other threads as well.

I was about to say the same thing. See, for example, this profile of Ace. (This may also be the first public mention of Ace's ska band?)
Good idea, though. Might be worth re-starting, since there's been some turnover in the last few years.

When I was in high school (early aughts), my father and I restored one of these:
A 1963 Cadillac convertible. (This isn't the exact car, but it's the right year, model, and color.) I remember that the engine compartment was so big you could literally sit in it while working on the engine.
Driving that thing felt like steering a cruise ship.

Matt Hinton used to do an annual article on this topic, demonstrating that recruiting stars DO matter - players with better rankings are more likely to become all-Americans, get drafted, etc. Here's one from a couple years ago.

Now I know how it feels to be Internet Famous. I'll try not to let it go to my head.

I was hoping they'd name it The Terrarium.

Thank goodness we don't peddle cheap foreign-manufactured goods and licensed schlocky merchandise.

May he and his family find peace.
I've got two young boys, and I can't imagine what his parents are going through.

An automated DMCA bot sent a takedown notice based on somebody's Kathy Ireland avatar. Brian missed the message from his host, so the whole site got taken down.

So he took a hit against Minnesota and hurt his shoulder, now suddenly he's on fire.
Remember this movie?

There's an open rehearsal at Michigan Stadium on Friday evening. They're prepping the halftime show, which this week features (in addition to the MMB) the brass section of the NY Philharmonic, the Choral Union, and the alumni band.
Even if the music doesn't appeal to you (or the rehearsal is just really boring), it may be a nice opportunity to enjoy some time in the stadium.

They don't get drunk or swear, two hallmarks of high quality schadenfreude.

Outlook actually has a built-in RSS feed reader. Add the mgoblog feed and then you can read it within Outlook, no browser required. If someone walks too close, you can just click over to the Mail pane - much more discreet than minimizing or alt-tabbing away from your browser.

Between having kids, working a real grown-up job, and the program collapsing upon itself, my fandom basically died over the last 5ish years. I haven't been to a game in a couple seasons, despite living in Ann Arbor. Last fall I couldn't even muster the enthusiasm to turn on the TV.
But this year... I'm getting a bit of the old feeling back too. Only a little bit, but it's a spark.

Given the timing, doesn't it seem likely that this is related to the nationwide push against sexual assaults on college campuses? Every article or report on the topic seems to implicate binge drinking as a major factor in many assaults. I doubt it's a coincidence that only now is the university stepping up its policing of student drinking.

One is the Buffalo Stampede play, posted above. The other is this bit of writing from Brian's college days:

My understanding of airpush is that they use ads in your notification bar. What I (and I assume others) am experiencing is a browser redirect: I visit mgoblog, then while the page is loading, the browser is redirected to some other website and eventually to the play store page for some mobile app.

'cause I just posted the same thing on the board, and we're far from the only ones affected.

That was the first reason I posted.
Now as for the second reason, maybe some mod can take notice and alert our fearless leader? I doubt Brian is particularly keen on his readership being unwillingly redirected to download Game of War.
|25 weeks 1 day ago||Kookaburra||
I saw Colin Hay in concert a couple of years ago, and he was a hell of a storyteller. The gist of one of his stories was that thanks to the brief "Kookaburra" quote on the flute in the recording, he has to pay a quarter of his royalties for "Land Down Under" to the guy who owned the "Kookaburra" rights.
