Thanks for the podcast, Ace…

Thanks for the podcast, Ace.  I'd love to hear more when you're feeling up for it.  Take care.

I'm glad that Warde's first…

I'm glad that Warde's first reaction was "no," and I'm glad that he spoke with the team to get their take.  Interacting with student athletes and seeking out / understanding their perspective is a big part of what an AD should be doing.

If the AD had been transparent initially (particularly the fact that a Nassar survivor and other teammates were on board), then the public may have reacted differently.

I'd like to see Simpson…

I'd like to see Simpson added to the banner - maybe doing his big walk.

Unless the idea was to keep him off of the banner as motivation to go out and destroy all comers, in which case carry on.

I know it's 2018.  I know…

I know it's 2018.  I know that Brian doesn't really have access to a time machine.  But knowing these things did not stop me from looking at my calendar for today's date and estimating that we are only about 35% of the way through that time period.

I'm still so very fragile.

Agreed.  If Shea comes back …

Agreed.  If Shea comes back (looks pretty likely) then we have the horses to be a dominant offense that should put up points early and often.

This year we were content with body punches / yards with the expectation that defenses would eventually wear out.  That doesn't work as well if the other team is moving the ball against us and keeping its defense fresh. We need to have the ability to win multiple ways (quick strike or grind-it-out).

It sure was.  Ace has added…

It was so nice having one more podcast with Ace.  He adds so much to this site in general, but especially to the podcasts.  Thank you, Ace, for doing this one.  Wishing you all the best.

Great post - thanks Seth.  I really enjoy the Neck Sharpies series, and this one is my favorite so far.  I hope next week you get to write about another satisfying wrinkle from the coaching staff.

It's genuine curiosity. I…

It's genuine curiosity. I didn't want to look like a troll - especially with a polarizing topic and my username!  Lots of great info in the responses, though, and I really appreciate the responses.

Also, I agree that McShay's speculation was unhelpful and that DPJ did look coherent on the sideline.  Thanks

Thank you very much - I appreciate the thorough information.  How long does it take to run through those symptoms / tests?  It sounds like a 5-minute test.

I love the weekly roundtable…

I love the weekly roundtable, but I couldn't get through this one. Ira got to talk all week - I wish he could have let his guests have the floor for one hour.

Z's 3p%

Can we be optimistic about the fact that Z started the year shooting close to 50% and then regressed to 29%?  For example, is there any evidence that he spent last offseason working on his form and that helped him start the year hot, but then his "new form" started to break-down as the season progressed?  I haven't watched closely enough to see if his form changed throughout the year (it sure seemed wonky all season, but the degree of wonkiness may have changed).

This may be similar to a QB who works on his footwork during the offseason only to regress when he starts to get hit during live action (that sounds oddly familiar).

Shanghai

Any leads on a location in Shanghai?  There's an outside chance I will get to go back to the states in time for the game, but it would be nice to have a plan if I'm still in Shanghai.

IBS

I do this joke with my wife where I loudly refer to her "IBS problems" when we're in public places - even though she definitely doesn't have IBS.  This seems like the sort of thing Brian would do to you on your podcast - even if you definitely don't have IBS.  So, in short, I hope Brian doesn't start talking about your IBS in the podcast.

(in seriousness, I'm very glad you're heading in the right direction.  you're very much appreciated and well-regarded around here and I'm sure in real life too)

Great new facility And more fans there than I would have expected given the weather. Nice start to the Conry era.
real name

I love how you specified that Scanner Blue is not his real name.

Very sorry for your loss.

Roundtable

Sam is amazing and keeps the roundtable fun and interesting - even after a disappointing loss. Ira uses the roundtable to give his own opinions instead of facilitating and letting his guests air time.  This week's roundtable was especially Ira-heavy, which was frustrating.  However, Brian, Ed, and Craig are always polite and professional to Ira (and their banter with each other is in good fun).

Congrats! My boys are still in elementary school, but it’s my dream for them to go to Michigan. It’s so much harder to get in now than when I was a student. Keep working hard, kiddos.
Happy Holidays and Go Blue!
Open Fields

Is he a solid pocket passer, or is he good Justin open Fields?

Corner Play will be Deciding Factor

I think we will be a top-10 defense based on Brown's scheme and Year 2 Bump.  Also, I think the defense wildcard will be our corner play.

The first string DL will be lights-out, just like last year.  Lack of depth won't be a huge issue.  Assuming we can avoid mulitiple DL injuries, the first string DL will be able to play most snaps in the big games and we can freely rotate in the games that aren't close.  The OSU game last year had very little rotation - even Gary only had a handfull of snaps.

Linebackers will be fine.  Same with safetys (again, as long as we can avoid injuries).  Lewis and Clark will be the toughest to replace, especially with Don Brown's ominous comment about Hill and the lack of chatter on Long.  Washington sure looked good in the Spring Game, though, so that's a plus.

not surprising

Social Experiment

I've been running a social experiment on one of my co-workers.  He got a new car about a year ago and since then, every few months I will leave a note on his car that says something like, "Hey Peter [his name is not Peter], I didn't know you work here - that's great!  Let's catch up soon.  Susan [my name isn't Susan]"

I change up the names and slightly vary the content of the messages.  I'm not sure what I'm trying to accomplish - maybe to plant the idea that his car model and color are too common.  I mostly just like messing with him and I'm curious what will happen.

Also, he's an MGoBlog reader and he may know my screen name, so perhaps he will see this post.  That would actually be a pretty fitting end to the experiment.

Great So glad the police recovered such precious photos
Thanks Mark For the record, we beat you guys home from the banquet tonight.

lots of banging

Between the Friday posbang, this thread, and the one just below it, lots of banging today... with little rest in-between!

halfcourt shot is a bummer, but great first half.

Mo gets 2 early fouls, Purdue shooting north of 60%, and we  STILL have a lead.  I'll take that first half any day.  Let's close it out, Blue.

Big Plane

That's a big plane to be forced down by wind.  I assumed it was a small or medium-sized plane until I watched this.  https://twitter.com/tylerjdavis2/status/839584612758220805

Very scary stuff!

Izzo

I'm used to whiny post-game Izzo, but the whole "tripping is unacceptable... but Wagner is a pain in the butt so it's justified" is so spineless.

What a great win. Walton is on fire - NBA Jams style.
