that without the scandal, we would likely have not had poor coaches & poor attendance. Our future, BB-wise would likely have been sky high, attendance would have been much better, better tv revenue, etc. which should have led to an upgrade of facilites. Anyway, I like how things are now, it just should not have taken 20 years. |
| 7 weeks 10 hours ago | Poor logic. |
Ellerbe was hired because Fisher was fired. Are you saying that without the scandal, we would still have had Ellerbe, Amaker, poor recruiting, poor attendance and deteriorating facilities? Who knows, without the scandal, we might be calling the refurbished Crisler Arena "The house that Chris built." However, predictions are hard, especially about the past. |

Bob Kostos will go on another rant, this time about the culture of drinking in our society. It's a culture of lack of responsibilty for our actions, not guns & alcohol. |
| 24 weeks 6 days ago | It matters not who we |
play in the bowl game. We will play a team that is better than any team we played all year, save Alabama. With fundamental weakness in the running game (non existent), a qb in Gardner who has great potential, but little experience on the big stage and a predictable offensive attack, we are doomed. I pine for the years when opponents feared our running and passing game-may take a couple years. |
| 25 weeks 2 days ago | Who |

| 25 weeks 4 days ago | A team stuck |

The legal system and the NCAA will do what we hope is right. PSU will be punished for what it did and did not do for many years and will pay in loss of stature and many dollars for its crimes. The program, rightfully so, will never be the same. So the author wants the program to be non profit for what, 40 years, 50 years? Who cares about the statue. That does not help the victims, nor will 50 years of non profit. |
| 45 weeks 11 hours ago | What I never understood |

for a hockey school. |
| 1 year 10 weeks ago | He'll do |
the same thing sparty and VT did, force DR to throw. The difference, I hope, is that DR is not the same passer as he was last year(s). |
| 1 year 10 weeks ago | My point is |
it is a rule that is hard to enforce uniformly. What is to stop a student athlete from calling a recruit who committed? Is the NCAA going to tap phones and assign someone to monitor twitters? I just don't believe that rule provides an advantage and the enforcement of it is silly. Howeva, the coaches should, and I'm sure do, drill into the players that everything they say, do and write could be front page news at a place like UM, especially with the likes of the Free Press' watchfull eye. |
| 1 year 10 weeks ago | The NCAA |
is dumb on this. There is no restriction on, say, Shane Morris from recruiting for the university. Sure, he is not enrolled, but that's a technicality as far as I'm concerned. He is in effect a student athlete contacting fellow recruits which I think is fine. |
| 1 year 10 weeks ago | He put the cake |
in the wrong oven in the wrong kitchen. |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | Remember when ND was |
relevant so many years ago? The arrogance of their recruiting was that they do not recruit, they interview. It almost appears that we are getting that way. |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | It sure did |
not take the NCAA long to decide that Ohio could have one staff coaching and another recruiting while on probation. That chaffs my ass as much as anything they have done. |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | There is nothing to like about Ohio. |
The rest stops are filthy, the roads are crappy except the tolls and the speed limits make no sense and often < @70 mph. And Columbus is a piss pot. For the life of me, I can't figure why a kid would want to spend 4 years in Columbus when he could be in AA. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | Good perspective. |
Frankly, I don't have a real good impression of New Englanders in general, but I admit it's a fairly small sample and unfair. I'm not sure about Pennsylvanians either after a recent business encounter. I lunched with two business associates in the Pittsburgh area that I had just met. We knew little of each other except our businesses & home bases, them PA, me MI. We spoke of several pro quarterbacks & their relative success in the pros vs lack of same in college. They were of course big Ben Rothlesburger fans. Tom Brady's name naturally came up and they both ragged on him as overrated, slow and wouldn't be shit without the teams he was on, not knowing my connection. I spoke of his competition at UM with Brian G. & Drew H. & the old story of that making him a better qb. One of them said Brady was "such an asshole." I kept my cool, but I don't see us doing much business with them in the near future. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | Why is that? |
Since you don't feel the same way about Boston University, it can't be a local population cause. Could it be arrogance if I dare use the term? I've never been around either, just curious. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | As long as |

| 1 year 12 weeks ago | land mines |

| 1 year 12 weeks ago | We need to now |
look at OH, PA, IL, MI & IN as though it is Texas as to this coaching staff. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | You may be surprised, |
but it's on the RCMB if you care to look for it. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | While the |
conspiracy theorists will not agree on this, Ford sacrificed his political career for the country when he pardoned Nixon, as if Nixon resigning in shame was not enough punishment. Ford was most respected in congress, mostly for his integrity. The article says as much about Ward as it does for Ford in that Ward was a good guy and liked by Ford for that reason. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | I see a tsunami |
coming for rb & wideouts (quality wise). And what defensive studs don't want to play for a team that controls the time of possession? Defense wins championships, but it's a lot easier when they are not on the field more than half of the game. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | This is just |
unfair. I almost, almost feel sorry for Sparty. They are rationalizing that many of our 4 star recruits will not pan out. Some may not, bit I sure like the percentages and I'm sure Sparty would be doing cartwheels if they had half of our 2013 recruits. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | Most of us |
do not see the errors of our ways. Many whites then did not have much exposure to blacks to form a valid opinion. For the most part, they formed their opinions on what they were told by their parents and friends. I'm not defending racism in any way, but the basis for it then was not the same as today-limited esposure and tainted influences. He did a lot of good for the university and for many people. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | Cut him some slack. |
In those times racism was not what it is today. He was raised in a different time in a different environment. If he was alive today, he would probably think differently. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | I question he said it, |
at least publicly. It reminds me of when Mike White was coaching Illinois and bringing in all the jucos. The week before we played them, Bo said: "Illinois has a lot of good players and I understand they have a few more coming in this week." I miss him. |
| 1 year 12 weeks ago | He's not a prick |

| 1 year 13 weeks ago | The feeling is |

| 1 year 13 weeks ago | An old |

| 1 year 13 weeks ago | Looks like |
Shane has a little to learn from DR about shoulder placement on big plays. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I will refer to |
him always as Jake Butt-kicker. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | As I said in another |
thread, Jake should legally change his surname by adding "kicker" to the end. If he did, can't you just hear Ufer with that one? Also, he could still be found on Anywho. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I believe it has to do |
with intent. I remember Kelly Tilghman on the Golf channel made a comment about the pros wanting to lynch Tiger Woods the way he was putting at that time. She clearly did not intent to make a racist comment, aploagized profusely and Tiger was cool with it. Of course, she did not have the benefit of time before it came out of her mouth. If the writer was fired without proving intent, just to make a public showing of pc., that's just wrong. It was a stupid comment, but most people don't get fired for stupidity unless it's chronic. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | They compensate |
on academics with athletics when they can, but you just can't fix stupid. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | If he commits |
and I dearly hope he does, I suggest he change his surname legally by adding "kicker" to the end of it. aside from it being accurate (hopefully), it would end the jokes. While that might hurt his employment options outside of the NFL, I would take the chance. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | That explains |
the stench. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | We certainly |
need people like you to monitor any "ugly" posts. If such posts are so heavily policed as you say, why do we need you? I expect so you can feel soooo good about yourself, protecting women and minorities. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | The original post |
was about Cowherd making fun of UM women. I have three daughters who are alums, rather pretty in my biased opinion. That's why I got on this post. Why did you get on this post, to monitor and profess that you are above us who make jokes? To top it off you accuse me of being a racist. Nice try professsor. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | This entire thread |
"obviously" is about the relative attractiveness of co-eds. If you, the p.c monitor and protector of women of this board, do not like the subject matter, why did you come on here? |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I didn't |
invent the MSU/agricultural joke theme. Have you never told or laughed at an MSU joke? Lighten up. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | They have |
a rather bovine quality about them. I actually saw one of them gnawing at an ear of corn, raw. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | He likes to |

| 1 year 14 weeks ago | Not enuf pnts, Kate will be CG for SI, but not in this garb. |
|
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | How do you |
get a guy named Green to wear the maize and blue? I kinda wish his name was Maize or Blue or Lloyd Brady or Tacopants, but you just never know about recruiting. |
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | But |
this is Ohio fergodsakes. |
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | I thougth that too for a second, |
but motivation should be done inside the walls, not in front of a mic. If I was his p.r. guy, I would do damage control by using the metaphor that recruits are like sex with women: They're all good, but some are just better than others. |
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | His use of the |
word "marginal" is telling. What he's telling these guys, his parents, friends, family and the public is that there are guys who just signed on that they are not really wanted and they are there only because he could not get someone better. All schools do that, but damn, that's outright thoughtless at best, cruel at worst. He may just be the Saban of the north. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | So |
the notion of Hoke telling him an Aggie joke would be out of the question. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | True, but that would require |
negative recruiting . . . |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | Good point. |
Getting into Ross is no easy task. Zack is certainly the exception as to academics vs athletics. I can't imagine the time budgeting. I admire him for that more than BB. Along the same lines, I remember a cornerback named Barry or Berry who had a good carrer at Ohio, I believe during the Moeller era. He was a highly rated recruit and his final three were ND, UM & Ohio. He chose Ohio and he said it was because of academics. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | Sam Webb |
this morning had no info on a timeline. He believes it's between Auburn & UM & thought it was equal as to new signees & existing players at both schools for playing time for Kozan. He also said Kozan's decision would be influenced by their business school since he is very interested in that major. Seems a no brainer on that-Ross vs. Auburn? Kozan was quoted as saying that Auburn's business school was one of the best in the country-go figure. I don't know what kind of student he is, but if he chooses Auburn, maybe he thinks he can do better in the business school at Auburn than UM. Just speculating. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | I would take 25 |

| 1 year 15 weeks ago | It's just schadenfreude, so lighten up |

when Duffy was coaching, but that quote was repeated somewhere in the last few years. Much like Dantonio (sarcasm), Duffy had a smile on his face most of the time and seemed to enjoy life, but that was before Bo. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | Duffy was |
the only MSU coach I ever liked. Can you imagine Dantonio saying: "We're small, but we're slow"? |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | Yes and global |

| 1 year 16 weeks ago | Shame on him |

Too bad he shows up so much. I am embarrassed every time I see him in hearings, an arrogant ass. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | You |
are joking, right? |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | The dirty part |
we don't know. I worked with a guy briefly who was friends with some the GVS players when Kelly was there. He said the players generally did not like Kelly and that the "F" bomb was routine (like RR on the latter, I know). |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | I agree with the |
posters who try to dissuade you on the sports theme. I know people who apply to UM for sports and that is not what the admission folks are looking for. My daughter wrote her essay that was titled: "I know where Jimmy Hoffa was buried." She did not, of course, at least I don't think so, but she got their attention and was accepted. Good luck and GO Blue! |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | Nebraska |
Per my post yesterday on another subject about my wife running into into Kenny Demens and Devin Gardner at the mall, one of them said to her: "We have OSU & Nebraska coming up and we feel pretty good about them." Case closed. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | Garner, Demens sighting. |
My wife, the mall rat and not shy, just came home from Briarwood Mall. She ran into Kenny Demens and Devin Gardner. She did not know them by sight, just that with their size and dress, looked like football players. She stopped them and asked if they were on the team. They said they were and gave her their names. What impressed her the most was how polite and gentlemenly they were. She told them they broke her heart with the MSU loss (for us and them) and that MSU fans & players are such . . . and did not finish the sentence when one of them said: "Go ahead and say it, because we can't". She finished the sentence with: "assholes" and they both laughed. Gardner was the more talkative, Demens a little reserved, but one of them said: "Don't worry ma'am, we have OSU & Nebraska coming up and we feel pretty good about them." She said she loves Brady and they said they do too. Gardner gave her a big hug and Demens shook her hand. Nothing earthshattering on the so called rumor, just a tid bit that does not look like a guy who is unhappy with the program. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | No soup for you! |
Adios amigo. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | How greener |
of a pasture could he be in? |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | What? |
MSU is not a destination job? I don't see him going anywhere. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | The best case scenario |
is that MSU continues to recruit thugs, puts a good/great team on the field year in and year out, we recruit Hoke guys and beat them year in and year out. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | That really sucks. |
Did LC not know that this would come out at some point? His issues must have been monumental to undermine the program like that. What a dufus. In his mind he must have thought about what he thought was the best for his players and not the program. What would Bo do? |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | Certainly damning if all you |
say is true. My point was that RR was doomed to fail even if Bo was reincarnated and held pep rallies for him. It was a bad fit, a bad choice from the get go, a panic hire. RR was in no way a B1G coach who could win no matter the support. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | There was nothing |
LC could have done to alter RR's fate one way or another. I believe the bottom line is LC was pissed he did not influence the pick of his successor, validating rumors that LC & Martin did not get along and that LC did not leave entirely of his own will. Sorry if this was discussed here before. |
| 1 year 30 weeks ago | The irony of |
what the Sparties call tough football, which I have no question about them playing on both sides of the ball, is that the late hits, arm bar and helmet twisting when our qb is on the ground, blind side punching is just plain pussy-ish, not something a real man would do, kind of like beating your wife. More that enough of this, but had to be said. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | I almost |
puked at Chris Speilman touting what an upstanding coach Dantonio is after the helmet twisting. If true, why no benching and then again after the punch and before that the arm break attempt on Lewan. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | If Lewan |
wanted to make a racist statement, I'm sure he could come up with something better than calling him "Tom" . I suppose if he called him "a Tom" that would fit the racist accusation a little better. So it's just a coincidence that Gholston claims he chose MSU over UM was because he was repeatedly called Tom on a recruiting visit? |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | Exactly |
and the Sparties shrug it off as just football, but when you look at it, those were girly acts, all done when a player was on the ground or othewise defensless. They are nothing but girls (no offense to girls). |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | If that were the case |
would we not see that in college hockey? I do think the MSU coaches are guilty. Gholston, when questioned about his dirty play said: "The coaches told us to play with reckless abandonment." I think he meant to say reckless abandon, but we get the point. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | Maize or blue |
Wear green and bitch the whole time about the same old sparties. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | English |
How could anyone be pissed that English did not get the job? He may become a good HC, bit there was nothing I read r heard to indicate that at the time. Of course, in retrospect, he could not have been much worse, if at all. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | Brandon |
So you get to decide what is enough? Sounds familiar. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | Brandon |
Would you? It's easy to say others who are successful should be paid less, but it's human nature to want to be appreciated & paid fairly for what they do. He does have a wife and children. I don't see Warren Buffet taking a $1 year salary or paying extra taxes. |
| 1 year 33 weeks ago | That was |
"Pinky" Higgins. I know there must be a story obout his nick name. |
| 1 year 33 weeks ago | I hear some of |
the same things from not too bright fans. On personnel issues, I usually shut them up by saying: The coaches see these guys every day in practice and know what they can do, we don't. |
| 1 year 33 weeks ago | Trick plays. |
And to think I was laughed at by at least one poster last week when I suggested DG & DR in the backfield together-brilliant! |
| 1 year 34 weeks ago | I share your concerns, but |
I'll bet Bo would say that you want your best athlete at QB which we have, no doubt. Wouldn't it be crazy if we put Devin Garder in the backfield for Denard to pitch to for a pass or run? I know, I know, but wouldn't that be interesting to see and put the defenses off balance? |
| 1 year 35 weeks ago | I go to the E. Lansing |

JLS was a pretty good fit. |
| 1 year 35 weeks ago | He must feel |
like a Sparty wearing a green sweatshirt in a sea of fans wearing . . . . . . . bronze. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Sort of |
Like your mother in law going over a cliff in your new Mercedes. Seriously, given the smack we are getting from the Sparties over our lucky win, it would be fitting for them to get hammered by ND, especially if we don't do the same to them. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Yes, but I'm sure |
he watched. If I was a recruit, aside from the great atmosphere, I would have been impressed with Brady's sideline demeanor vis a vis BK. |
| 1 year 41 weeks ago | It's called |
an "Ohio" shirt my friend. |
| 1 year 42 weeks ago | Most universities |
are that way, given the ideologies of most professors and many teachers from grade school through hs. Some of us grew out of it . . . |
| 1 year 42 weeks ago | I hope |
O'Brien does not read this stuff. He might get the impression UM is full of pussified libs with no sense of humor or perspective. |
| 1 year 43 weeks ago | They call |
us Walmart Woverines, i.e., any fan who did not actually go to UM. How many farmers have the "S" on their barn who actually went to MSU? I saw a post on facebook by a sparty after the second UM win over the sparties in bb that he only would take shit from anyone who had actually gone to UM-how pathetic. |

Depends on how Ohio coaches perform & who their next coach is. If Hoke does well on the field, coupled with his staff's renewed inroads in Ohio, I'm not worried about recruits. |

such a hard decision for these young men on a college choice. Think of the tOSU recruits who thought they had a stable program and MSU recruits who thought MD owned the Midwest for years to come and then there's ND ... |

I have always had mixed feelings about LC. I liked him for the most part and I believe his players liked him, a good guy for the players. But, he has a big ego (like most anyone at that level). I thought he took a cheap shot at Bo at the Big House sevice in honor of Bo when he quoted Bo in a talk with Lloyd re. Bill Clinton after the Monica thing: Bo said to Lloyd: "He was your president". Soooo, Bo was a Republican and Lloyd was a Democrat and Lloyd wanted everyone to know that and to love Lloyd for it. I also believe he would not have supported anyone after him unless it was one of his assistants. Just sayin. |

The reason it works in Europe is because of the close proximity and the high gasoline costs, mostly due to taxes on gasoline. That is the goal of this administration, high fossil fuel costs which make the alternative energy costs somewhat and I mean somewhat, competitive. |

That and I believe keeping Jackson on staff, aside from him being a good coach, gives BH a good insight on who is who on the team he inherits. |
