At the end of the semester, everyone does bar crawls together. Literally every organization, every society. South U gets flooded with color-coordinated dorks eager to step into bars for the 4th time in their 4 years on campus. By 9 pm they're hammered

There is absolutely no reason to play ball there, now or ever

No one's arguing they aint effective. To combat Urban Meyer's five star, slot ninja and camp-athlete loaded offense in future M is going to need laterally quick guys who can tackle in space and go sideline to sideline. It's asking a lot. Chase Winovich is a pretty good start.

That's a good point. I guess high level corners are still hard to come by. Hopefully we stop seeing freshmen play so much...

Mattison's D is a lot to learn, especially for a true freshman. As we move forward with stocking quality recruits all over the team, you're going to see freshmen get less playing time. If Dymonte couldn't get time this year, I doubt Peppers will get a job on the outside immediately. More likely that he's the nickelback and Mattison decides to let Taylor play his senior year.
Any chance of Dymonte grabbing the open safety job?

I haven't thought about recruiting in a while. I'd rather see them horde scholarships for 2015 than grab too many late pickups. We are still in it for a lot of quality 2015 targets, and I'd like to have slots for as many as possible. I really hope that KLS and Minkah Fitzpatrick somehow end up commits.

It's a leap of faith to assume the team will take a step forward in year 2 of running the WCO? If semantics irritate you so much, I encourage you to start a site of your own. I won't post there.

|3 days 15 hours ago||My argument is we are going||
My argument is we are going to see much much less of those stinkers in year 2 as the personnel grows up and continues to rep the same fundamental plays day in and day out. Four yards on 1st down leads to a 6 yard slant leads to a play action pass leads to a throwback screen leads to a bomb.
This year it was a TFL on 1st down leads to an incompletion leads to 3rd and long.
|3 days 16 hours ago||PSU we ended up putting up||
PSU we ended up putting up 40. MSU's senior laden defense at home, 7 years in the making vs an offense in year 1 of WCO isn't a fair fight. Sorry. if you want it to be a fair fight, let the coaches stay where they are and keep at it.
As for Nebraska and Iowa, I never said it was OK for the crappy performance we ended up seeing. My point is Michigan runs the plays that they practice, and they've been practicing and slowly improving at the fundamental plays. This is because in order for us to start winning games down the road the way Hoke and Borges want to, they have to sacrifice time and energy to teach it now.

Google how play action works.
Rewatch the ND, Indiana, OSU games where, you know, the run works and consequently, Borges can use all of his weapons. Good lord. His hands have been tied this season. Have some perspective.
Remember when the only thing Michigan bball was able to do was chuck 3's every game? How did things work out last season with a multi-dimensional attack?

|3 days 17 hours ago||I don't have the time to get||
I don't have the time to get into this chicken-and-egg argument with everyone on this site, and you are welcome to not believe me / disagree, but as space coyote has said, there are 2 schools of offensive thought
1) spread: score TD's every snap
#2 is harder to get good at. Well, at least it's harder for a team in transition, like us. As a result, the offensive staff began the long process of having the team practice what they actually want them to do in games. Borges could've come out and done what you saw against OSU week to week, but they chose to focus on the meat and potatoes. Iso, Power, Off tackle right.
Everyone's pissed that Borges suddenly has the offense clicking on saturday. 600 yards, video game numbers. Did he suddenly remember how to score? That's not it. The coaches want the kids to learn the fundamentals, and put them in every gameplan to force them to learn it.
They don't want to trot out their A-grade, cream de la cream stuff for the Minnesotas of the world. They want to be able to rush for 200 yards every week. So that's the logic. Not saying that everyone should swallow that logic...just trying to explain.
Next season I'm pretty confident that they will be able to execute these basic staple plays better. When Michigan holds on to the ball for 30 mins time of possession every game and trots out an elite playmaking defense...
Just wait. Al Borges isn't Jim Bollman or Greg Davis.
|3 days 17 hours ago||There's a reason we repped||
There's a reason we repped the plays we did from week to week. It's what the coaches, with their finite practice time, want to get good at.
They will. Took them forever to show competence (NW game) but they will. Once Borges has the basics down, this offense will take off. But the basics have to be down.
