I thought it was obvious that a major goal of this piece is to eventually be shown in schools on a regular basis. So with that in mind, you could definitely tell the target audience was aimed at a younger crowd. That said, I really enjoyed it nonetheless. I look forward the future episodes. Just like Sagan, it's easy to see how much Neil loves science, and that just permeates through the whole show and is quite contagious.

Milwaukee is where we want to be. Not terribly far away for Michiganders, and only a less than 2 hr drive away from our large alumni base in Chicago. As for the Canadians, they'll go wherever they need to go to cheer on their white wolf of the north.

I acknowledge that a lot of Beilein's offense seems to make for a lot of sitting in one place, but he does really stand around flat footed more than other players on the team. Again, that may be by design, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth. As for defense, I didn't necessarily say he was bad at defending, but if there was an award for most times a Michigan player has walked/lightly jogged back on defense behind everyone else, Glen would win it hands down.
Bottom line is he's drastically correcting these behaviors, and it shows.

You know what, I'll take that. Caris' role and how he plays is the most similar to junior year THJ out of all of them.
BTW - I was not meaning to say I thought GRIII was as important and impactful as THJ by any means. I was just saying the the potential of what he could do offensively (if he really tried to be more than just pure athleticism more often), would look more like Timmy than how Irvin plays. But yeah, I'll take THJ over him anyday as their actual production is not comprable at all.
|4 hours 16 min ago||He definitely does seem to||
He definitely does seem to have a more quiet, humble personality. But walking back to the other side of the court (he's very often the last person back on defense), and up until recently, just standing around (no movement, not even at least staying on his toes) when he doesn't have the ball is just plain lazy. A quiet demeanor and playing out of position is no excuse for that...but he is starting to correct it,.
|4 hours 49 min ago||What THJ most certainly did||
What THJ most certainly did (even in his freshman year) that neither Irvin or GRIII do is drive to the basket with authority and throw it down. He didn't do that as much as he could've and should've (especially when he was in a slump and only thought about long ball), but he realized he had the skills and strength to do that. I can only imagine how dangerous GRIII would be if he suddenly realized he could do that as well. Irvin...I don't know if he's ever going to be that type of player. To that effect, he does kind of remind me of the jumpshot only version of THJ when the floor anywhere under 18 ft away from the rim is lava.
So yes, I guess you could say Irvin is playing a little more like sophomore year THJ, but GRIII's skillset and potential does more align with junior year Timmy.

GRIII actually being able to do more than be on the receiving end of an alley oop: I'll admit, I constantly complained about GRIII's lazy, uninspiring play. IMO, he truly was a waste of minutes for the bulk of this year who was dependent on others to get his points and I believed he would never really turn the corner while in a Michigan jersey. However, he has made me eat my words as he has really turned up his game in the past few weeks and turned into a legitimate threat who can create for himself. Yes, he still has his moments (and a lot of them at that), but now, teams can't ignore him which makes us all the more dangerous come the tourney.

I really love how much Woodson sincerely still loves U of M. He's not just a Michigan legend, he's a full on Wolverine fanatic.

Crean is a complete douche who needs to stop putting his hands down his pants and also has to learn to get off the court when there are players anywhere in his general vicinity. They refs need to realize we're not at assembly hall and Indiana shouldn't be getting preferential treatment. Lastly, IU needs to realize they're not actually a good basketball team and start missing some shots.

Champ Bailey minus a step or two >>>>> Any CB that Lions have had recently with all their steps intact.
That said, a one or maybe two year contract guy like Champ is not going to cut it. That money would be better suited to go towards a younger but still proven cover man on one side with a cheaper, unproven guy with tons of potential on the other (2nd or 3rd rounder). Champ would be nice, but he's not the answer to our db woes. Finnegan fits the Lions football "bad boys" style of play, but is trouble/a fine waiting to happen and won't be cheap. I'd personally like to see the Lions go after Sam Shields if he decides to test out the free agent market....

When I was 8 years old, I was the ball boy for a bunch of games during the second season of the fab five. Juwan Howard was by far the nicest and went out of his way to interact with us...can't say I was a huge fan of Jalen though.

Beilein is certainly not going to win that. I'm thinking Tony Bennett from Virginia. WSU season's was amazing to say the least, but I don't know a soul who thought Virginia would have such an incredible season and take the ACC regular season crown (or even compete for it for that matter).

We lose the last season's POY. We lose another first rounder. We lose a preseason all-american early in year. Then...we win an outright Big Ten title. At Michigan, Beilein doesn't rebuild, he reloads. Hail to the Victors!

I can't see any trade happening. Don "Giraffe" Kelly and Lombo...however you spell it will have to step up and get some time in left if Rajai lives up to his reputation against righties. Maybe it might be worth considering shuffling around the infield as needed to get Castellanos back at LF...
|5 days 20 hours ago||Honestly, I prefer Rajai||
Honestly, I prefer Rajai Davis in left over Dirks, so this isn't the end of the world. He may not have the best BA, but he makes you pay when he gets on base. Still, it would've been nice to start off the season with those two playing the matchups, but I think Davis will make for a decent everyday LF until we're back to full strength. Here's to a speedy and thorough recovery!

I find it quite humorous when other teams' fans try to make digs at the Lions or their fans. Like seriously? I root for the goddamn Detroit Lions, what on earth could you possibly say that I don't already know and/or could get under my skin?
Lions fans are essentially sparring partners for world class boxers. Our NFL hopes get beat up and ko'd for a living by the hardest punchers in the world. Having someone slap us in the face feels no different to us than a fly landing on the nose of someone else.
|6 days 3 min ago||It's absurd because as||
It's absurd because as admirable and impressive as it is for a star student athlete to get their degree, it shouldn't be the basis for determining whether or not the university honors what you did on on the court for the school. Getting a degree is a benefit for yourself (you said it yourself), not the school. The rules allow for someone to leave early without the promise of having to return. If in the time you were at Michigan, you gave your all, made the whole country turn their heads back towards the direction of Ann Arbor, all the while you were doing all this with class, then you should be in contention to be honored. A degree would just be a little more icing on the cake, but by no by means the rule.
|6 days 27 min ago||It's quite possible to get||
It's quite possible to get your degree even if you are a star player who gets drafted early. Shaq did it, Vince Carter did it, and there are many others who did or are in the process of doing it. While I'm with you that getting a degree is an absurd prerequisite for getting your number retired/honored, there is definitely something be said about guys who stay long enough to earn their degree and/or go back to get it.

When a thread is built upon a unsubstantiated rumor found on RCMB, and the MGoThread's OP has nothing new or insightful to add, it must be removed. So while it turned out Urban was indeed in the hospital (for something less dramatic than yesterday's thread implied), this is the only post on the topic that was ever needed or wanted.

I know someone who served as Director of Operations for a non-revenue sport at U of M, and that position was primarily as a support and/or administrative personnel. So who knows, the football D.O. may very well have a lot less impact on the team than the title is seeming to lead many to believe...
