Not saying Man of Steel was a great movie (it sure as hell was entertaining to me atleast), but popular opinion doesn't make it fact, because at the end of the day, it's still just opinion.  To use your avatar and username as an example, most people on this blog would probably say that Kid Cudi's music is terrible rubbish.  I, and apparently you disagree with that majority opinion, and being in that minority doesn't make our own opinions on music in general irrelevant.

2 days 9 hours ago Well, it looks like your nephew

Well, it looks like your nephew and David Goyer have a talent that you, I and a majority of the people in this world surprisingly lack.  I wish him luck in his budding screenwriting career and hope he doesn't forget his ol' Uncle Herm on his path to stardom.

But seriously, not everything in the cinematic world must have a deep meaning, most especially when the movie in question is based off of a comic book.  Believe it or not, sometimes a well done "shoot 'em up" flick (short of a Michael Bay clusterfuck) that doesn't pretend to be a source of mental stimulation can be enjoyed just as is.  I thoroughly enjoyed the movie because I came into it just wanting to be visually and aurally entertained, while also not expecting Shawshank Redemption.

By the way, I would suggest never admiting (or at least implying) that you've seen Miss Congeniality, as it immediately takes away every ounce of your credibility on the topic of film.

It's pretty self explanitory. Last year the offense ran exclusively through Burke. This year, without the best court general in the college game at the helm any longer, we're going to have to be more creative and flexible to get our points. More multi-dimensional is what we are going to be by necessity, but by no means implies our offense will be better. The guy's comment was more obvious fact than a controversial, neg-worthy blanket statement.

4 days 17 hours ago "Cool story bro" story

If we're talking about talking a pounding in football, I'll share mine:

I played football from 5th grade to my senior year in high school, finally reaching an anti-climatic ending with some interest from non-power DII teams and a request from Northern Illinois to try out on d-line.

My junior year of high school in the fall of '02, I got switched to left guard since my natural position, center, had decent depth there already, but we had a complete lack of lineman who could pull.  One of the games that season was an away game against Saginaw, which featured a well known man among boys named Lamar Woodley.  Since our running game was heavily reliant on pulling guards, and Lamar often played up on the edge, a meeting between the two of us was inevitable.

I was no small and meek pulling guard, standing at 6'2", 265 with a decent 40 for a 17 year old OL.  The first time my name was called to pull to his side, I shot out of my cannon, and dropped my shoulder as I braced for the hit.  I ran into an immovable Woodley, who was waiting for me, and fortunately was able to (only) distract him enough for the tailback to slip through.  What I say now doesn't consist of an ounce of exagerration: Lamar picked up all 265 punds of me, turned a little bit with me in his hands and then gently tossed me to the side out of his way.  He then proceeded to chase down the tailback who made it a few yards farther than he would have if Lamar hadn't been mildly distracted by me.

I was still down on the ground in complete shock at being manhandled for the first time in my football career when Woodley came back over to me, lifted me straight up off the ground and back on to my feet, and said "good block."  I don't think what I did that play can really be considered a block, but to this day, getting politely put in my place and then complimented by someone who ended up being a Wolverine great and a Super Bowl champ is the highlight of my career.

By the way, we were absolutely destroyed in that game and I even got to talk to Lamar about it a couple years later when I ran into him while I was visiting a friend in West Quad. (I know, cool story bro).

5 days 15 hours ago Hype most certainly does not win football games...

...but being ranked high early in the season AND winning games has more rewards than not.  It's a lot easier to get to the top 4 if you're already hovering around that area than if you need to claw (and luck) your way through the top 25.

Besides, Michigan is Michigan.  We're always going to have lofy expectations and a target on our back regardless of our record or rank.  Might as well get a nice ranking to go with it.

5 days 18 hours ago [In Mayor's voice]

Thanks for that illustration, Tom.

5 days 20 hours ago Wow, so you lose your main

Wow, so you lose your main source(s) of productivity from your already inept offense, and that part of your team still gets an A- grade?  Really?  On the other end, I would think their defense would've been ranked a smidge higher.

6 days 18 hours ago Harvard will open so many

Harvard will open so many more doors that would otherwise have to be pried open. However, there's no way the name of a school on a piece of paper is going to stop someone who has the drive and the intelligence to become something special.  I've known guys who went to Ivy league schools just because they could, and then I've known guys who went elsewhere because they actually wanted to.  I'll let you guess which ones more often than not have become more sucessful thus far...

1 week 15 hours ago It's a larger chain than people realize.

They're also in Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and all over the place in Ohio.  However, since I work by the A2 airport, the Eisenhower location is my Dibella's of choice.

1 week 20 hours ago Mmm, a Godfather on everything bread...

All you had to say to end this discussion is Dibellas.  The best chain sub shop by far.  The only people who would disagree are people who have never been.

1 week 1 day ago Really, Joey D? Mo Cheeks?

All this time to pick a coach, along with the help of Phil Jackson, and Maurice Cheeks is the best they could come up with?  In his 8 years as a head coach, he only had 2 winning seasons, the last of which was 10 years ago.  He's a failure with 2 firings and 3 1st round playoff exits under his belt.  On top of that, he's been known to lose control of his players (i.e. - The "Jail" Blazers and the Allen Iverson/Chris Webber fiasco).  Great charismatic guy, bad head coach. What a stupid hire.

1 week 1 day ago I am most  childishly

I am most  childishly displeased with this.  I will now follow you around the blog and neg your posts.

1 week 1 day ago 2 grievances to air:
  1. The MgoBloggers that act like butthurt little kids when someone posts something they don't like (i.e. - Magnus' (and others) stalkers, as well as those who will follow you around the blog for a day or two senselessly negging everything you post just because you commented in disagreement to one of their posts).  Not only is everything on here not worth holding a grudge over, but what an odd, childish way to express your pointless displeasure.
  2. Also, the people who just post "This^^^."  We get it, you very much agree with a post and that's cool, but either comment with something you can contribute to the topic or upvote the person's comment and move on.  "This" and a carat sign does nothing more than just giving yourself a meaningless point.
1 week 1 day ago Where's the threat?

Does this mean everyone in the B1G gets to lay in the weeds along side with Dantonio?

1 week 1 day ago I'm guilty of making comments that don't really

I'm guilty of making comments that don't really contribute to the topic, but it's not always horribly negative. With it being offseason, there are going to be people that come here looking for entertainment, but since they won't necessarily get that with content, they'll look to busting people's balls (short of trolling hopefully). As other people have mentioned, the old point system would definitely limit that by bringing back consequences of posting said comments.

Additionally, I do think the mods are becoming too aggressive with their moderating, which I had never thought before. BiSB's style was to make his presence known (with those we can't have nice things warnings) and help keep the convo on topic and pc. In my eyes, the newer crop of mods jump in way to quick with little to no warning to get rid of a lot of things before it can turn into anything worthwhile. That could just be a product of how everyone is starting to behave on the boards, but something needs to change.

Looks like Tressel finally got around to "firing" him...

2 weeks 1 day ago I was a ballboy for a decent

I was a ballboy for a decent amount of games during the 2nd season of the Fab Five (spent most of my time being a ball boy for the women's team), and I concur 100%.  He was by far the nicest and most approachable of the group and would actually go out of his way to interact with us.  It's no surprise that while his skills and athleticism are declining, the Heat still want him around in some capacity.

Not that any of the other 4 didn't deserve a championship ring, but Juwan deserved it even more.  I don't like the Heat at all, but I'd love to see him get a 2nd ring this year to make up for the 2 he should've had in college.

2 weeks 2 days ago per MHSAA, there is a short sit out rule...

If true, I'm honestly not sure what particular part of his situation is happening that's making him expempt from sitting out.  My older sister played college basketball, and in high school when her recruitment started to heat up, she transferred from a small a2 private school to Ann Arbor Huron to get a little more visibility playing against better competition.  She transferred there as soon as her sophomore season was over, and thus her sitout period was the 2nd semester of that year.  That was all she needed to wait to be cleared to play her junior year.

I was able to find something from the MHSAA on tranfer rules and exceptions *here*, but without knowing the full story, who knows which exception McDowell is going to be able to use.

2 weeks 3 days ago Strike that, reverse it...

I understand what you were getting at, but I assure you that you most certainly can spell "win" without "Winovich." Spelling Winovich without win, however, is another story and probably what you were going for (unless you were attempting ironic humor).

2 weeks 4 days ago I'd be lying if I said I

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't often wondered where we'd be under a different skipper.  It's hard to explain, but I feel like he shows a little too much loyalty to his guys, pitchers in particular.  Sometimes you just have to cut your losses with a player (during a game and during a season), and Leyland seems to give them more of a chance than they should get when things get sticky.

Then again, what do I know.  As nice as a world series would be, you'd have to be a moron to be dissapointed with "only" getting 2 AL championships since '06.

2 weeks 4 days ago Different times, different styles, different athletes.

Let's not forget, 10+ homeruns used to be all it took to lead the league.  Ty Cobb's 9 homers in 1909 was the most in baseball that year.

2 weeks 4 days ago How can his statements not be

How can his statements not be construed as discrimination and harrassment at all (I am actually curious and not trying to argue with you)?  You mention tortious, but I have little to no knowledge of tort laws, but isn't that more related to like defamation and negligence?

2 weeks 4 days ago Not sure, but...

...at this point, it doesn't matter.  Nationalities, races and ethnicities are federally protected from discrimination.  Beckman's article can be interpreted as harrassment.  Regardless of employment contract or not, Michigan is within their full rights to terminate with cause.  The catch 22 is if you take him down for that reasoning, to save your butt from anything coming back to bite ya, I'd imagine you'd probably have to give the heave-ho to all directly involved in allowing that article out there (unless it was an op/ed)...

*Not an employment/civil rights lawyer by any stretch of the imagination, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once...

2 weeks 5 days ago I'd probably buy the paid version, but...

...the ads are so unobtrusive that I barely notice them. And when I do, I'll even occasionally give it a click to support the blog/developer. As far as advertisements on free apps go, MgoBlog is very tame...

2 weeks 5 days ago I'm really not, as my +2

I'm really not, as my +2 karma, and 4 1/2 years here with no trips to bolivia imply.  My preference is to try to stick to just posting gifs and color commentary on this site (as most threads on this board turn out like this where one post captures everyone's attention and spirals downward into unentertaining, nonsensical bantering).  Maybe I was just caught on a bad day, and/or MGoMob mentality turned me into this thread's bad asshole.

Anyways, if I were you, I'd be a lot less trusting of men in yellow suits and tall hats.  That's how Curious George ended up getting taken out of his natural habitat, you know...

2 weeks 5 days ago I could care less what you think....

...and have no idea what 8)))))D means, but if you must know, I have sat when I've pissed before a few times, mostly late at night after a drunken outing to avoid any awkward aiming issues, and I honestly don't fart too often, but when I do, it normally smells like ass.

2 weeks 5 days ago Go fuck yourself

I'm not actually trying to offend/attack you, I'm just quoting Ron Burgundy.  See:

Doesn't matter where it's from, it can still be offensive to some people.  However, to lessen the blow to those who would be offended, it would've helped had he put it in context rather than blurting it out in a way that made him seem like an ignorant ass.  If he meant it in the Tropic Thunder sense (didn't notice the avatar of who he's responding to), it's still not entirely appropiate, but I'll allow it.
