Intent in and of itself can be considered a crime. Therefore, having intent to do harm or damage makes a situation that much more serious. However, intent is not always required to make or break a situation from being criminal or not, nor does it make it any less stupid. Also, there are varying levels of intent: while they may not have had intent to cause any damage whatsoever, they may have had intent to eventually explode the cocktails, which could be enough right there to make their possession criminal. Intent is not so black and white all the time. |

Thank you for the athletic contributions you made as members of the wrestling team. However, it's time for both of you to get the heck out of here. It's bad enough when fans react this way, but when student athletes are involved, it's an embarrassment to the university. You don't deserve the honor of representing this university when you do stupid (and potentially dangerous) shit like this.

His other good showings/wins we're on tracks that more resembled Pimlico However, I want nothing to do with the 17th placed also ran horse at the Derby that just seemed to completely give up at the last turn. As for betting exotics, this would be the race to do it. Unfortunately, lower risk means lower reward, especially if you heard Orb's straight bet odds were expected to go down to 3/5 (combined with the small field). |

With Orb sitting at 1-1 odds, I'm honestly thinking of sitting this one out (betting wise). I had Mylute in the Derby, but have completely lost faith in Rosie. I do think Orb will have trouble in coming out of the first post, and I'm really liking Itsmyluckyday to pull out a shocker. Other than that, Titletown 5 is sitting with 30 to 1 odds, and in a 9 horse field, that's looking mighty tempting... |

It's a two minute race. If you think this high paced competition that takes less time than it would take to make a cup of coffee bores you, than I'm pretty sure you've never actually watched a horse race before. Try watching it once. I decided to a few years ago and now I love the sport. |

For food in Tempe, Four Peaks, Oregano's, Tott's Asian Diner, Ted's Hot dogs and Nello's are a must. Dillys Deli on Southern Ave in Tempe! I lived a block down the street from there and loved that place. The southwest club (which tastes a lot like the Pat's and Dick's Honeymooner sandwich from Zingerman's) and a bread bowl of their clam chowder was the only thing I would ever get there. Amazing stuff. I'd rank them as the second best sandwich shop in the Valley (behind Chompies). |
| 1 week 20 hours ago | Just moved back to A2 in late |
Just moved back to A2 in late 2011 after 5 years in Arizona. Hate to say, but if you're looking for an apartment, you have to do it quickly. Since there are really not that many apartment options, students snatch them up quickly and well in advance, and then other renters quickly follow behind those students. There are plenty of complexes downtown that are being built (and are being marketed to young professionals, rather than students), so this maybe a year where you have to bite the bullet and move into a complex with availability that might not fit all your needs, all while keeping on eye on when you can reserve a lease at one the newer complexes. As for development jobs, there are a bunch of tech oriented companies that might be worth looking into. Thomson Reuters and Barracuda standout as the larger A2 based ones, but if you are up to commuting a little bit, you may want to look more towards metro detroit. I prefer to stay in Ann Arbor for work, so I don't have much knowledge of those oppurtunities, but there sure seem to be a lot of them over by the Livonia area. As for other tidbits, the West side is heavy with the yuppies/townies, closer to downtown is a hodge podge of people and a ton of students (obviously), Pittsfield area I generally tend to stay away from in terms of living accomadations (there are some nice places, but there something not right about it since it doesn't really feel like Ann Arbor, but more like a A2/Ypsi/Saline clusterf*ck), and the northeast side is heavily residential and family based with not much to do. I stick to the west side and downtown. Anyways, Ann Arbor is changing, it's definitely evolving by getting bigger and a little more commercial, but it's still the best damn city in the world, you'll love it here.

| 1 week 3 days ago | Meh, they won the NIT in 2012 |
Meh, they won the NIT in 2012 (I think), and followed that up last year with a 2nd round exit in the NIT, a 18-14 (9-9) regular season record and dismantling of a top 10 Oregon team (at the time) as their best win. Since they're only losing 3 points/game production to graduation, I assume they can only get better. So, I wouldn't say stinky (but I wouldn't say great either), as there's a decent possiblilty this is a NCAA tourney bound team. Regardless, it's better than the WVU team we played in Brooklyn last that finished below .500. Should definitely be a game we should win against a RPI top 100 team at the least. |

If I must choose between the two, I'll take Kraft, just because the amount of cheesiness with Velveeta can really start getting annoying after a bit. However, I prefer my own homemade baked mac n cheese: Egg noodles mixed with heavy cream and shredded fontina, poured in a casserole dish with a layer of sliced havarti in the middle, topped with parmesan cheese (the real stuff) and italian breadcrumbs, then baked til melty and golden brown on top. Nothing beats it. |

Want more attention from the schools that you actually have the ability to transfer to? Tell everyone you're considering transferring to Michigan. We've seen plenty of guys do it before and we all know U of M has never been real big on transfers. I really wouldn't mind a backup QB who could limit the possible burning of Shane's redshirt to being a personal decision by Hoke rather than out of neccesity, but I just don't see it happening. |

Just because you have the ability to start threads, it doesn't mean you should. Threads are best served for those who have something contribute rather than for those who asking others to contribute somethinv to them. That being said, within the past few weeks ago, there were a couple threads by users who contributed some pretty nice football wallpapers to the board. An MGoSearch for wallpapers should do the trick to help you find them. Sorry for the snark, but useless threads asking for wallpapers or recruiting news are huge board pet peeves. |

What I wouldn't do for an Arizona burrito from Fili B's, or better yet, a white hot from Ted's in Tempe. As for coney dogs, I know the Upper Deck in Old Town Scottsdale (owned by an MSU alum, or at least was when I was there) had some pretty decent ones with dogs shipped from Michigan, and while the name slips me, there was another little place in South Scottsdale owned by another former Michigan resident that did a good version as well. But yeah, it's a more than fair trade to give up the fast food options in Arizona in order to have easy access to Coney Islands, Blimpy and Zingerman's again |
| 2 weeks 2 days ago | Culvers, as well as Steak n |
Culvers, as well as Steak n Shake, have a drive thru, and that makes them a fast food place in my book. And Five Guys does more fit into the walk up, made to order category with Habit Burger and Smashburger, but you can't have a fast service burger joint convo without them included. "Mega" chains like McDonalds are a different category all together and can't even compete with the aformentioned restaurants in the taste and service categories.
|
| 2 weeks 2 days ago | As good as 2x4 animal style |
As good as 2x4 animal style with chopped chilis extra toast is, I think would definitely take a Culver's butter burger over it any day (mmm, butter burger). Only had Habit Burger once, Whataburger is meh, and while still good, I can't say I've been horribly impressed with Five Guys (haven't been to Smashburger). However, you still have to respect In-N-Out for how well they treat and pay their employees, which definitely shows through in the service. To further deviate, even though it's not a "burger joint," Chick-fil-A trumps them all. Man, living back in Ann Arbor definitely makes me miss all the better fast food options I had when I was in Arizona. |

| 3 weeks 6 hours ago | I popped my Churchill Downs |
I popped my Churchill Downs cherry last year at the Derby. That hours long wait to get in and the similarly long wait to get out of the infield is enough to make me want to go back only if it is with grandstand tickets. That, along with the heat and sunshine, which had not been in the forecast, was brutal. To top it off, while gambling at a casino outside Cinci the night before, I had talked my wife out of betting on I'll Have Another (I don't remember why, I think it had something to do with his post position not historically being a good one). So out of all the money we bet, which was a decent amount, we walked out of the racetrack with just $15 in winnings, thanks to a lone $5 show bet on Dullahan. However, we also walked out with a great memory, despite all the things I could spend forever complaining about Anyways, the Derby is a great event, and Churchill Downs is a great place. Good luck to anyone putting money down on it tomorrow, and have fun to anyone going or just watching on tv. As for me, I'll be at home, drinking some sort of adult beverage in my 2012 Kentucky Derby commerative mint julep glass, cheering on Mylute and enjoying the greatest, most exciting 2 minutes in all of sports. |

with a TD/INT ratio of 5 to 4... His sophomore season is the only year his passing stats could pass for somewhat respectable, and even then we were all hoping he would get much better at throwing, which he most certainly did not. Him being #4 all time at Michigan is more of a testament to how his big play/running ability bought him more time at the QB position than he should've had, than it does his actual ability as a QB. |

Well, your whining about me whining about....meh, I'm already over it. Say what you will, but self policing is a part of this site, and will continue to be until meaningful voting makes its return (which, per Brian, isn't too far off). Also, when a OP has 3 upvotes vs. 43 downvotes, it's not really the thread to criticize the drastic majority that is vocally chastising the OP. But yeah, I'm with you in that I didn't see anything wrong with what he said. The quote as the OP presented it was taken out of context and I don't think was intended towards us specifically. The quote in fact seems to make perfect sense and is something you'd expect, as well as hope, a coach of a school that's always stuck under other team's shadow should respond. I enjoy making fun of Dantonio's over the top sound bytes, but this just isn't one of those. However, as far as him softening his stance on Michigan, I'm not sure if that's the case, but it was probably a lot easier (for multiple reasons) for him to show a little more restraint towards us since Hoke became coach when compared to our last staff. |

| 5 weeks 1 day ago | As a coach? No. |
I think he still wants to coach, but doesn't necessarily have the energy/passion to be a coach. You heard all about it when he almost became the Lakers coach again this season. All those ridiculous requests, with not wanting to really travel to away games being the most telling of them all. I can honestly see him as a Pat Riley type front office guy. Someone who can be a mentor to a lesser name coach and has a majority say in personnel decisions and strategy without having to be with the team 24/7. Now that is something I'd take over the Joey D regime any day. |
| 5 weeks 1 day ago | I'm not quite sure why they |
I'm not quite sure why they hired him in the first place. Stupid decision. Joey D needs to get his act together and make a smart coaching hire or hit the road himself. How a guy can go from unquestioningly one of the best front office guys in all of pro sports to one of the absolute worst in a span of 5 years is completely dumbfounding. And I know it will never happen, but I feel obligated to throw this out every time the Pistons go on a coaching search: Bill Laimbeer. |

You can play it off that you were surprised yourself that ND wasn't on there, but the true reason you posted this is to be antagonistic and rub in what this pointless list from this irrelevant site has to say. This post is nothing but a subtle attempt at trolling. Since you were the on that posted it, all I'm really getting out of this list is that since the BCS era began, the polls have accepted ND as a non-factor, and thus have them consistently start out the season unranked or in the bottom portion of the top 25. Now if only ND fans and the sector of the media that doesn't vote in the polls (but thinks every year is ND's year) would readjust their expectations... |

Since the mid 80's only 8 teams (I believe) have won an NBA championship. The Pistons' 3 titles makes them one of those 8. Yes, they have been at that bottom on the barrel as of late, but the great thing about the Pistons is that for the past 30 years, every time they hit the bottom, they consistently rise back up to the top. Granted this is no longer a Bill Davidson owned organization, but you of all people, as a lifelong Pistons fan, should know not to treat this organization as if they're no better than the Lions. |

My wife did synchronized figure skating on an international level (sidenote: synchronized gymnastics is a sport that could be a more athletic alternative to competitive cheerleading). Hearing my wife talk about all the little stupid rules and things you must do to avoid pointless deductions are absolutely ridiculous. Things like uniforms, make up and music selection also somehow play a critical role in not getting docked points. It's ridiculous. It's not really about the best team skillwise, but it all comes down to how well you know the judges' style and how much you can do to appease them. I can't imagine competitive cheerleading isn't too far off from that. |

"Parking: The lots around Michigan Stadium owned and operated by the University of Michigan will be free and open to the public; however, availability in these lots is extremely limited. Additional parking will be available at Briarwood Mall on the south side of Sears, and shuttles will be running from this area beginning at 8:30 a.m. The U-M Golf Course Lot (Green) will be restricted to golfers only. Pioneer High School will be charging $20 for cars and $80 for RVs on Saturday." I'd imagine this game would be the same set up as last year. However, to be safe, the article I found this in was published only 2 days before the 2012 game, so I'd imagine a similar one should be coming out on mgoblue.com any time now. |

Sports has winning, and it has losing. When you are a fan, you don't get (or move closer to getting) a ring, trophy, bonus or even your name in the paper. You get one thing: bragging rights over the other fans. I don't often participate in the despair of our opponents' fans as much as I use to, and I agree there are certain lines not to cross, but trying to tell others to not do that is to completely miss the boat on part of what being a fan is. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Soon to be dad with some great memories as a kid... |
Growing up, I don't have a ton of memories of going to games with my parents, but that's because my mom gave me a better gift: My mom was on the booster club of the U of M women's basketball team, which eventually landed my sister and I full time ball boy/girl roles when we were old enough to know how to stay out of the way of the game and wipe down the floor when necessary. This eventually culiminated in a dozen or so appearances as a ballboy for the men's team during a time when a group called the fab five were playing. This unfortunately ended when my eldest sister started getting recruited for basketball and we had to disassociate ourselves from the university So while I don't really have a lot of memories of being at more than a handful of Michigan sporting evens with my parents, I was gifted with being able to say I was actually a part of the fab five era Wolverines (through a technicality). I don't think I'll ever be able to give my daughter, who's due the week before the first football game this year, that cool of a gift, but like you current MGoParents, I hope to instill the love of Michigan sports with her at an early age. |

| 6 weeks 4 days ago | I picked Michigan to lose in |
I picked Michigan to lose in the first round of the tourney. It was more of a strategic way for me to limit my emotional attachment to the team and/or my bracket (if they lose, at least it helps my bracket, and if my bracket gets busted, I can't get upset about it because it's my team doing the busting). A lot of negative setiments about teams are from their biggest fans, who also serve double time as the team's biggest critics (unless you are irrationally positive). Being critical and getting overly upset about the Wolverines when things don't go as expected doesn't necessarily mean you're a bandwagon jumper, it means you care. Besides, I don't prescribe to the Sparty way of doing things. If you want to cheer for Michigan, I happily will take you in with open arms when that time comes, even if it's for one game. There is no such thing as a Walmart Wolverine. Tonight, everyone is either a Cardinal or a Wolverine. Go Blue! |

But I still agree to disagree to an extent. While it's only a third of Syracuse's issues right now and the one that is probably the least of the NCAA's concerns at the moment (if it's even an open issue at all still), any time there are allegations of sexual molestation of children, that is far and away a bigger issue and bigger hit to the reputation of any organization than anything else you can imagine (IMHO). I, as well as many others, are still fans and supporters of Steve Fisher, the fab five, Louis Bullock, Mo Taylor and the dear departed Tractor Traylor. Name me one person who's still a supporter of Bernie Fine. |

Michigan players made a huge mistake 15-20 years ago when they took money from a booster they had been warned to stay away from, and the program paid the price for it. Right now, Syracuse is currently under investigation for drug allegations and the whole Fab Melo fiasco, not to mention the sexual molestation accusations that unfortunately went on with Bernie Fine. I dare say Syracuse's reputation is in a much much worse position than U of M was during the Fab Five scandal. Regardless, who cares. As of tomorrow, U of M is playing Syracuse and any allegations are unproven and irrelevant on that court. May the best man win (and may Syracuse not look too bad losing). |

Firstly, unless he's already been told there's no way his draft stock can go any higher, I don't get why Timmy is leaving (Trey leaving is a no brainer). Timmy is extremely inconsistent and I could only imagine one year of him playing like he can and not falling into one of his usual Big Ten conference slumps would help him drastically come draft time. However, the biggest issue I have is that this chump outted these guys. Not only did he steal their thunder when they do announce, but it creates an unnecessary distraction and unwarranted pressure from fans/friends/family for the team to win it all now while they can. It's a damn shame people feel the need to be first is more important than a kid's privacy. Edit: On a quasi-good note, I was wondering where Irvin would fit into our rotation next year. Sure seems like he has a good chance to not have to come off the bench now. |

I don't think in the eyes of the law, or common sense for that matter, "it didn't physically hurt the guy" is an argument that hold up very well. I played a lot of sports and have dealt with lot of coaching styles, from pathetically passive to extremely aggressive (good ol' Michigan high school football coaching legend Chuck Lori). I've seen coaches put their hands on players in the heat of competition. It's always a shock when it happens, but in most situations (which a few and far between), it's a one off occurrence that just happens and is clearly not done with malintent. To do what that man did so many times on that film and clearly was done with utter disregard for the kids he's trying to turn into young men is appalling and does absolutely require swift and harsh punishment. You forget, being a coach on any non pro level is not purely about results on the court. This coach is setting a horrible example to his players for how a grown man should behave and is an embarrassment to his school. |

What's my motivation for continuing to watch? What did they give me to think about that's going to hold a special place in my memory as I wait for season 4? I get that what happened was a big deal and huge deviation when compared to the comics, but in the context of the show itself, it doesnt do much for me. Zombies are awesome, but clearly the show doesn't rely on that alone, so I was expecting them to give me a least a little something to whet my appetite for future episodes. With how it was presented, this seemed like more of slowly developing poor man's series finale than the end of a season. |

Even with a kid on the way, I find it so hard to distinguish the important things in life with Michigan sports. I was raised in a family where the two were so heavily intertwined, and at times it becomes impossible for me to recognize sports are just a game and miniscule part of the big picture. The great highs like today as well as the lows the Wolverines provide us further complicates things. I'm so happy that today provided you (and all of us) the former in a time when in meant so much. I hope in the not too distant future, you get to share a great moment in Michigan sports history (a long with a few unavoidable low ones) with Evan. Go Blue! |
| 7 weeks 5 days ago | Believe or not, the same |
Believe or not, the same reason why the NCAA tourney is so exciting is the same reason why you can't necessarily judge the strength of a conference by how many of their teams make it to the final four: It's a one and done tournament where anything can happen. All the teams that are in the tourney, from 1 seeds to 16 seeds, are there because they've shown the propensity that they can possibly beat almost any other team on any given day. While the cream pretty much always rises to top in the end regardless, you're going to have a lot of unforseen outcomes that wouldn't hold true if it was in a best of 7 series. Besides, 2 teams in the elite 8 and 4 in the sweet 16 is pretty damn good. |

| 8 weeks 5 days ago | Sure, I'll play along. |
Using your hypothesis that Butler > Miami, we can continue to add on to that by using your suggested and flawed logic that the outcome of one game shows how good/bad a team is and dictates the outcome . For example: You for some reason say Bulter is better than Miami, and Miami beat Illinois, who beat Butler. So your new amended statement would be Butler > Miami > Illinois > Butler > Miami > Illinois > Butler > Miami > Illinois > Butler, etc etc etc. You can see your statement creates infinite loop of a paradox that is really just saying Butler is better than Butler, which has nothing to do with Miami vs. Marquette. I would suggest you quit being butt hurt about Illinois losing and accept in the tourney that anything can and will happen and that what happened in the last game or any game in the season is hopelessly irrelevant. Marquette vs. Miami won't be an easy game for either team. |

Where? Because I'm not seeing it. John Thompson didn't recruit based off of a superiority complex. He didn't turn his nose up at white players, he just chose to extend his hand to black ones that no one else really cared to. His recruitment of blacks was not due to their physical and mental traits compared to whites, but their socioeconimic situation, which is not racist. Look here guy, you can try to twist what Thompson did any way you'd like to justify your dislike of him, and I'm sure you'll respond back to this post with some other flawed rationale for why what he did was racist, but the fact the matter is you are very confused about what racism is, and that's that. |
| 9 weeks 9 hours ago | You call it racism, others call it recruiting and |
You call it racism, others call it recruiting and empowering. John Thompson didn't just recruit black kids, he recruited under educated and poor black kids, and he did so for 2 reasons: 1 to give them the chance that others wouldn't, through an education and through basketball. 2ndly, with these kids, he was able to easily create an atmosphere of "us against the world," which was a very successful strategy for his teams. I find it no different than Coach K's strategy of recruiting well educated and well spoken young men (which ended up creating teams that heavily consisted of a lot of white guys) which I don't find racist. You seem to forget John Thompson lived through and became a successful professional during a time where he dealt with prejudice unimaginable to your petty concept of what racism is. To me, as a black man, to call how he recruited racist, is a very narrow minded understanding of who he was and what he was trying to do. |

I have no doubt we'd be no where near where we are now without Trey. Trey really is this team. Without him, we lose more than just 19pts a game. We lose the the best offensive floor general in the country, a guy who gets others involved by creating plays for them and drawing the attention of the opponent's defenders. To say our other players and Beilein could turn us into a top 20 team with Spike and Eso at the point is foolish. I wish that wasn't the truth, but it is. We struggled to be competive in the B1G and stay in the top 10 with Trey, we would struggle to make the tourney without him. |

I don't know how much different the rules are in this area for student athletes vs athletic dept. employees, but one of my friends who works in the AD (not basketball) has been told the NCAA explicitly forbids them to so much as fill out a bracket. |

For the longest time since I was a kid, I hated Nike and loved Adidas. Now, after seeing the horrible uniforms they've come up with the past couple years across the country, I'm not sure I'll go out of my way to purchase another Adidas item ever again. |
| 10 weeks 22 hours ago | The tourneys we've played in were in the beginning |
The tourneys we've played in were in the beginning of the year. We were a better team in the beginning of the year (at least in the concept that we have not improved and grown over the season as much as the teams around us have). IMHO, to say we're a tourney team or a neutral court team because of what we did months ago is a flawed notion. I do really hope I'm wrong about that though. We do have the makings of a team that can make deep runs just because we have a player that can singlehandedly take control to go along with a bunch of 3pt shooters, but not having a consistent 2nd or 3rd option, reliable bigs and above average D are traits that hurt our chances. Come to think of it, we kinda seem like the Kemba Walker era UConn huskies... |

Android jellybean is where support for Flash offically ended. There were too many security issues that Flash created and Adobe saw the writing on the wall and subsequently halted any further mobile development/support for 4.1. You can always try to get around it by installing a version of flash onto a jellybean running device through an apk, but as the popular meme says:
On a related note, I believe Mgoblue.com has a paid version of their app that includes streaming audio and video. |

After sitting next to an Indiana fan who knew nothing about basketball, and her friend who wore a U of M shirt but cheered for IU more than us, my wife and I had to make the long dejected walk back to the track and field parking lot after the game. I came home and butchered my fettucine alfredo recipe I've been making since I was in middle school and some how made garlic bread that didn't have any flavor. So, I've decided to make a mai tai with extra rum, eat some gelato and easter candy and hope a great Walking Dead episode will make today not feel like a total waste. Here's to hoping Merle becomes a bigger part of the group and that lot's of unexpected deaths/twists go down! |
| 11 weeks 16 hours ago | This will be the biggest game |
This will be the biggest game played at Crisler in a very long time. This game will also be a big game for Hoosier fans as it will be not horribly far away and a chance to clinch the Big Ten title outright. Both fanbases really want these tickets. You'll be lucky to get 2 tickets together for less than $200 a piece. Me and my wife are going (upper corner, not great seats) and have fielded a few offers from friends and acquantiences of upwards of $300 each. These offers were swiftly rejected. So, to put it bluntly, this an awful game to think about taking your kids to. For the cheapest 5 together that you could possibly fine, you'd be far over on the wrong side of $500, if not worse. |

I often like to complain about the refs, win or lose. This game was no exception, except for that it truly seemed this time that the refs were actually playing a considerable role rather than me just being paranoid about it. That being said, I am a fan, and I get to harp on the refs. We were all thinking it Trey, but it's just not your place to say it. We really don't need a target on your back right now. |
| 12 weeks 2 days ago | I dunno. 3-4 in the month of |
I dunno. 3-4 in the month of February. A complete whooping at the hands of Sparty, poor coaching decisions down the stretch that led to an OT loss to Wisconsin, barely and uninspiringly hanging on at home against the worst team in the B1G and now, when at least a share of the Big Ten title was in our control, we just gave PSU their first conference win of the season when we were up by 15 with 10 minutes left. There's an immense amount of talent on this team, enough to win a national championship I dare say. Understandbly, any team is going to struggle in this conference, however, the way we tumbled so suddenly and in such apathetic fashion is inexcusable. To say Beilein has lost this team (to a very mild extent) is not as far fetched as it seems. A team doesn't just go from #1 on Feb 3rd to by the end of the month having 4 more losses, including one against the worst team in the conference, unless mental mistakes are occuring by all members of the team, coaches and players alike. Now, do I think Beilein lost this team? No. From what I heard from sources directly connected to the program, they've been lost since day one; At each other's throats and not getting along by the time the freshmen first rolled in. That lack of comraderie and morale is finally affecting them as their pure talent can no longer coast them through games this late in the season. They need to wake up and decide if they want to be champs. We'll know on Sunday what they decided to do. |

Is there any reason why the refs are letting contact go uncalled when PSU is on defense, while constantly blowing the whistle on U of M when we do the exact same thing the Lions had done on the other end? |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | I'm trying real hard to word this carefully... |
I'm not trying to advocate flopping, but just like a good defensive player (like Novak did, for example) adds a little acting to the end of a charge to make sure he gets the ref's full attention, I don't have a huge issue with a player really emphasizing that a elbow has contacted his head. With the elbow rule out in full force, having replay there for the officials to determine whether the contact was incidental or flagrant just personally makes me a little more comfortable with this dramatization (in moderation). On the other end, flat out flopping and crossing your fingers that the ref buys it or will magically see something on the monitor that makes it swing your way is utterly uncalled for.
Edit: To show how biased I am on the subject of flopping, I was a long snapper in my football playing days and would purposely take a little bit longer to lift my head back up after a snap. If someone dare try to touch me at least quasi head on while I was still in my prone position, I would flamboyantly drop to ground to let the ref know he needs to at least think about throwing his flag. There is unfortunately an art behind the strategic flop and it serves a purpose (again, in moderation). |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | Alas, that's the way things |
Alas, that's the way things are, regardless of what anyone else feels the game should be. I personally prefer knowing that replay is there when needed, and on a sidenote, I can't wait for baseball to more fully join the replay party. |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | It annoys me too. |
I saw that after someone already replied to my post. By the way, you didn't put a comma after "also," which is pretty grammatically obnoxious as well. We're all human and thank goodness we're on a message board where grammar is irrelevant. |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | I tried to play devil's advocate to my own point... |
and put myself in your shoes to try to make that comparison make sense. I can't. That was just a god awful attempt at an analogy you made. Contact, albeit very light contact, from the Gopher player's arm was made to the guy's head, that's indisputable. Sheehey just milked the love tap way too much and refs considered the contact incidental, which it obviously was. It was not phantom elbow as we saw with Manny Harris' one against Purdue a few years back. Now, if you don't understand my gif (and seemingly don't understand body language and what someone shrugging their shoulders implies), I can't really help ya out there. |
| 12 weeks 3 days ago | Granted, it was a flop, but |
Granted, it was a flop, but I've seen more dramatic flops with much less contact involved. Also, I hardly find an 8 second clip with no sound from Crean necessarily incriminating. As lame as it may be if Crean did tell him to flop, with every possible elbow to face being reviewed on the monitor, the way I see it is if the guy legitimately and flagrantly gets elbowed above the shoulders, who cares about his overreaction (or in some cases, lack thereof; a flagrant is a flagrant. If it was a non-reviewable play, I'd care a lot more. |

Compound complex sentences can get tricky, and the middle part of my opening sentence was obiviously a subordinate clause, so I completely understand why you may have thought it was dependent on the clause that preceded it. However, inserting a comma before the conjunction that seperates the 1st and 2nd clause represents a shift in the sentence's focus, namely that the 2nd clause will most likely be dependent on whatever follows it, which in this was Anquan Boldin. To put it simply, I was saying Anquan Boldin had won the Super Bowl (a few weeks ago with Baltimore to be specific). P.S. - Forget that b.s. your teachers told you about "run-on" sentences. As long as they're not abused, they can be infinitely more effective than what's boringly considered proper. |

Disclaimer: I love Hoke and how much he knows and respects our traditions and lifted us from the ashes. However, while he undestands the defensive line, his head coaching abilities and thus his success, revolve purely around putting great coaches around him, developing upstanding young men and attracting recruits with his passion and charisma. These attributes ain't really what your average NFL owner cares about. Brady Hoke is not an x's and o's guy and you need to know how to wear a headset and take control in the NFL. I don't think he'd want to leave, but if he did, I'm not sure any smart pro team would take him. |

As crazy as things have been this year, this season's parity can't be as bad on my future bracket as last year. I followed up my clutch UConn pick in 2011 with a stinker by picking Missouri to take it all last year. Talk about a complete reversal of fortune. At the very least, I know I probably won't be alone in losing most of my final four in the first weekend of this tourney... |
