Logging in for the first…

Logging in for the first time in a long while just to say this is a really great post thank you for sharing.

Austin Davis is a runner-up Mr. Basketball, 3-time first team all-state, local talent from an hour down the road. He's in the gym every day pushing KFaTA Jon Teske in practice and earning every minute he gets. He doesn't deserve an ounce of criticism on here. Quiet down please or go jump in a lake and be grateful you exist to watch John Beilein build the best basketball program Ann Arbor has ever seen.

The old gang is coming back!

The old gang is coming back! Really hoping he starts writing regularily again, a true assest to the Michigan community.

I was in the sport management

I was in the sport management program at UofM for 3 semesters 05-06. It became clear to me that a switch to LSA and a degree in something like economics, accounting, business, computer science  has far better value long term and that sports management was probably a waste of a few thousand dollars each semester. While I'd been a die hard sports fan since I can remember I didn't share that same passion for the behind the scene aspect of the industy and decided I'd better keep my options open.

My advice for somebody thinking about a sports management degree or entering the industry would be to major in a subject which could be useful in the sports field but has value and could lead to opportunities in other fields as well. Get an internship/work study somewhere in the athletic department, facilities management or marketing, to get a feel for the industry. Plan on either staying oncampues over the summer and working the spring sports/fall prep or finding another internship for the summer. Experience and networking are everything.

This plan would have you as well-placed to enter the field after your 4-5 years as anyone with a sports management degree in addition having far more options in the overall job market.

If for whatever reason somebody has thier heart set on a sports management degree then don't pay top dollar at a school like Michigan. Go somewhere where you can minimize your post-school debt obligation because entty-level salaries are shit.

Like someone mentioned, entry into the sports industry is tough, starting salaries are low, and you're going to have very little flexibility in terms of job choice or location because you won't have many opportunities/offers to chose from.

Having said all that, I did enjoy my experience and never found myself close to getting swamped academically (although the prgram is not the cakewalk that many people think. the workload is more project/group/paper oriented and less knowledge/theory/fact cramin), and I can tell people I had classes with current and former pro-athletes, olympians, WCWS walk-off ledgends and took a class taught by a former-NHL veteran and Berenson assistant who shared some incredible stories about the early years of the program under Red and his experience as an athelete at UofM. He also wasn't afriad to critizie the university's athletic department openly in class (this would play out on a larger stage a short while later on the radio station wtka) which I found hilarious but more importantly really opened my eyes to the hyprocisry rampant in college athletics. It would end up being the class I felt I got the most for bang for my buck while in college.

I am so satisfied.

Today was the second time I noticed the mlax games in the results/calendar section on the mgoblue homepage. There was even a link to a men's lacrosse page however it was completely blank. The games aren't appearing now though.

I think the first time was when we beat MSU a couple of weeks ago. I remember thinking to myself that I'd never noticed the scores on mgoblue before but then the next day I couldn't find them anywhere.

Weird. It's like there's one guy posting the mlax info and another guy going around taking all down.

Re: Hockey

It's not like adding another weekend to the NCAA tournament would extend the season further. Just take out the silly two week break between the regionals and the Frozen Four and you get a tournament that lasts just as many weeks as the current version.

I think Tenn ran pretty bad with those foul calls. The first three easily could have been and have been called blocks. The last two were charges almost always tho.

Not sure why Bilas's name is

Not sure why Bilas's name is getting dragged through the mud. Ok he's a big fan of Amaker but he also consistently speaks intelligently about the game and was absolutely on fire last night. He came out hammering on the selection committee.

Bilas: Dropping knowledge

Hubert: durrrrr EYE TEST

Digger: Colorado beat KSU THREE TIMES!!!!

Rece Davis: Hey guys look at this math

Bilas: More knowledge

You can't make much of

You can't make much of Lunardi's stats without comparing them to others' predictions. Obviously the man isn't just pulling names out of his ass, I mean, he gets paid to do this, but I have no idea if correctly predicting 42% of the seeds is good or not.

And anybody that pays even a little attention to this stuff is going to get 63/65 a decent amount of the time. 64 is good but I'd expect a pro bracketologist to be getting 64+ almost every year.

It's wasy to win your first

It's wasy to win your first BTT game when you play Iowa every year. Zing!

Does the Alumni Assosication even have watch partys for basketball? I wonder if they'd do an NCAA tournament event.

easy question.

I don't think we'll lose to them in anything ever again.

Since the winner qualifies

Lloyd Brady's not very excited about Michigan basketball imo

While he was the leading

While he was the leading freshman goal scorer in the nation I'm pretty he he wasn't #1 overall. Hertzog from Penn State had 20 I believe. Still, he was Gatorade high school player of the year last year and he's obviously lived up to the hype and more.

He scored the lone goal against Akron earlier in the year, hopefully he can get another or two Friday.

Akron wins 3-2 in penalties

Akron wins 3-2 in penalties to advance.

They've man handled us pretty well the last two times we've played including the aforementioned 7-1 demolition but that seemed to spark something in our team so I'm hoping for a pretty good game next Friday.

Soony Saad is not suspended for next game

In NCAA tournament play you are only suspended for accumluation of yellow cards on the 8th card. After that each additional three cards is another suspension.

"Postseason Games. Caution accumulation will carry over into postseason play, which includes conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament. Players or coaches participating in postseason play will receieve a one-game suspension when a toal of eight cautions have been accumulated."

per NCAA rule 12.11.2 here (caution PDF) http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/SO11.pdf

Good start for Michigan as they string a few passes together but the cross to switch fields skips out on the far side line

Michigan needs to do a better

Michigan needs to do a better job of holding possession when they get it to relieve pressure. They're looking to play too directly when Maryland has players back. Need to spread it around and move the ball outside. Defensively need to stay composed and take care of the ball under pressure...been a lot of poor clearances right at Maryland players in this game.

Having said that Meram and Saad are still huge threats and the winner is almost always a pass away
