Sorry. Michigan has an…

Sorry. Michigan has an endowment of almost $18 billion, has a $85 million contract with Nike, and receives over $58 million alone from its TV deal with the Big Ten Network.

Asking fans to bankroll player "salaries" through donations will never not sound ridiculous to this lifelong fan.

That's not what "irreparable…

That's not what "irreparable harm" means in the courts.

the most vanilla program violation I have heard get blown to this size

I humbly disagree. This isn't even Michigan's "most vanilla program violation" in the past 15 years. Have you heard of "Stretch-gate?"

The NCAA finds out about…

The NCAA finds out about this, this week and responds to Michigan. Michigan, in response, drops its lawsuit and fires the LB coach.

Why are you concerned about this process - they are responding in real time to a complaint, and they are not the wrongdoer here. If Michigan had done nothing wrong, they would not have voluntarily dismissed their own lawsuit and fired (now) 2 members of the football staff.

The fact Harbaugh is taking…

The fact Harbaugh is taking a home visit to a prospect in Aurora, Colorado might not be a good omen if people are wondering about a Broncos in-person interview.

How did Harbaugh get out…

How did Harbaugh get out-coached through his QB and RB fumbling a snap at the opponents' 1 yard line, and through his QB throwing two INT-TDs?

That's not being out-coached. Those are mistakes made by 18-22 year olds. Those aren't Harbaugh's fault. Take one of those mistakes away and they play Monday for the title.

Shamone. If he was returning…

Shamone. If he was returning to Michigan, he'd need to be in class, and there is a pretty good medical team in Ann Arbor.

If JJ can make $2 million in…

If JJ can make $2 million in NIL money at Michigan in 2024 and is fully insured for injury, why does he leave for the NFL?

He's not above 1985 Harbaugh…

He's not above 1985 Harbaugh, 1991-92 Grbac, 1997 Griese (not a talent issue - he won it all and JJ didn't), 2000 Henson, 2006 Henne, or 2010 Denard.

He's close though.

Caleb Williams would be…

Caleb Williams would be quite nice to build with.

Predictions:

Michigan will win, or lose.

50/50.

Book it.

Lock the thread.

This looks like a well…

This looks like a well-thought out, well-measured reaction to the NIL landscape. Exactly the kind of response I would expect from Michigan. Precisely the reason I support this university.

People who want the Wild West NIL garbage coming from the SEC should root for another set of laundry.

And as for crypto and NFTs, well, as long as the players get their money, who cares I guess?

Soccer is this nation's 3rd…

Soccer is this nation's 3rd sport, at worst. As far as participation and viewership it's probably the 2nd (basketball might be first for participation, only gridiron gets more eyeballs). For large portions of the population this is THE sport.

I do appreciate the "If Only LeBron Played Soccer" argument. Haven't seen that in a bit. The answer to how many goals LeBron would score is: it depends on whether SoccerBron has been playing soccer since the age of 4. If yes, he probably would have been a good player. If not, he'd have no chance against Stones, VVD, or Varane.

But most importantly - he'd have a build like VVD, not a power forward.

Then what exactly is the…

Then what exactly is the point of college football? The sport trades on tradition, mascots, gameday experience, uniforms, fight songs, getting a degree (and a job), etc.

If the only thing that matters now is money over all of those other things, well, then all those things in paragraph are items of fan manipulation. It's the NFL-lite, and not worth watching.

Not what I'm arguing. If…

Not what I'm arguing. If this is truly professional and only about the money, then separate the teams from the universities. See who wants to watch the Washtenaw Wolverines play the Oletangy Buckeyes.

Frankly, I'm happy Michigan…

Frankly, I'm happy Michigan isn't bothering with this. The team is 25-2 the past two years in the midst of this nonsense.

The idea Michigan players aren't being taken care of isn't one I easily accept. Not my issue, but I trust Harbaugh can find 25 guys a year who have the quality to play for Michigan, and so long as 10-15 of those guys pan out over a 4-5 year period, that in the end is all that matters.

If the intention of NIL is…

If the intention of NIL is to make me care less and less about college football, it's having the desired effect. And yes, my disdain of the SEC and Free Shoes U stems from the issue of bagmen.

If football players switching teams due to money (not, you know, trying to win games) was in any way interesting, I'd just watch the NFL.

Oh cool. Michigan is going…

Mistakes turn into content.

Would you be alright with…

Would you be alright with this for Michigan - Ohio State, adding Cleveland into the rotation?

Your second statement is the…

Your second statement is the problem.

Imagine some billionaire buys the rights to move Michigan v. Ohio State to Cleveland. And it stinks. And the term of the contract is 30 years.

At the end of 30 years, people want to "stick with tradition where it exists."

Play the games on campus…

Play the games on campus. All of them. The games are supposed to be for the students, not for corporate lackeys and tourism boards.

Steven Gerrard had the same…

Steven Gerrard had the same issues when he was 19. Give Gio time, it will work out.

Or it won't.

50/50.

Ziggy Boniek was a…

Ziggy Boniek was a difference maker at Juventus. He scored the goals to win the Cup Winners Cup, and won the penalty that won Juve the European Cup in the Heysel disaster game.

Money appears to be an issue…

Money appears to be an issue at the University of Michigan for an athletic program?

No, it's not the issue.

On the one hand, you're…

On the one hand, you're right.

On the other, he was playing in a pro-am and would have gotten that experience against NBA players in November.

Don't forget - he was famous for crossing over Steph Curry at a camp 2-3 years ago. I'm not sure what he's doing now is that "new" for him.

There's a valid argument to…

There's a valid argument to be made at this point that taking time off, letting the body recover, and then getting back into playing shape would help these players get even better and stay in shape for when it matters - the season that helps them draw an income.

Their bodies are at the limit of peak physical condition and break down far, far more than they did in the 80s and 90s. Players didn't need "load management" during the season, because they took time off during the off-season.

It's going to be very, very…

It's going to be very, very easy to stop watching college sports now. Other than the fans paying for the right to cheer on the laundry, the pretense of anyone caring about the schools is gone. It's all about the money.

There is no justification…

There is no justification for what Howard did today, so don't even bother trying to do so.

If Ryan Day did this to Mike Hart, you all know how you'd feel about it, and what you'd want done.

Incredibly disappointing.

Cade is a NIL sponsor of Tom…

Cade is a NIL sponsor of Tom Brady's clothing line.

I strongly suspect that guy will stick around as long as he has eligibility. He's already proven himself and, because he's at Michigan, he will get a shot on a NFL roster no matter what happens from here on out.

Accuracy requires me to…

Accuracy requires me to mention Braylon Edwards wore #80, not #1, as a freshman.

Also .....

The only other impactful freshman WR I could find was Tae Odoms, but that was as the slot in a Rich Rod offense.

I posted a diary about this over a decade ago. Odoms was the most effective freshman wide receiver in Michigan history. Love Odoms. #eatin

Hold on a minute. You're a…

Hold on a minute. You're a Michigan fan. You should surely know the alternative meaning for "mink," going back to the Denard Robinson days.

I agree with you. No way…

I agree with you. No way anyone in college should make this much money for athletics. That includes the coaches. Blow it all up.

Seriously.

The proposal is…

Seriously.

The proposal is fine.

This country is a mess. This is what we all waste our money on - whether an "amateur" football team can pay players enough to win what, 1-2 extra games a year?

I mean, if Michigan does it to the extent of these other ridiculous universities, let's get rid of the idea "Michigan football" is anything other than a different color of laundry.

interesting that this…

interesting that this picture is reversed. Spade and Applegate were on the right couch in the sketch, with Hartman and Sweeney on the left couch.

My opinion as to what…

My opinion as to what Michigan needs to win:

x = Number of points scored by Georgia.

Michigan needs (x + 1) points to win.

Why make things so complicated. The equation is simple.

Lock the thread.

I'd rather the Regulators…

I'd rather the Regulators mount up.

Jarrett Irons was better…

Jarrett Irons was better than all of them.

Yep. Pogba's agent is…

Yep. Pogba's agent is notorious for doing this nonsense ("sources indicate Pogba is unsure of the Man U project"). After all, he doesn't get paid without transferring his players from team to team.

He did it for two years with Donnarumma as well, and he's doing it now with Haaland.

Politics are about …

Politics are about ..... people. These people need help. That should be the role of a functioning government.

On the one hand, it's very…

On the one hand, it's very kind to post this here. We should all do our part.

On the other hand, it's so pathetic how often requests for disaster relief money, money for healthcare costs, etc. have to be made by people.

Isn't the point of a government to provide for things like this? It does in every other "advanced" country.

Yes. Or not.

50/50.

Yes. Or not.

I don't have a definitive…

I don't have a definitive answer, other than I would completely understand why "insiders" might have lost access last year.

The team scored 33 points…

The team scored 33 points last week.

The offense isn't the problem.

Yeah, if only Michigan had…

Yeah, if only Michigan had thrown a 93 yard TD pass in the first half last week.

Let's look at those stats. Michigan threw the ball 48 times and ran it 34 times last week.

23 pass attempts in the first half. 17 rushes.

What are you talking about.

That percentage is going to…

That percentage is going to include a losing record against Ohio State by the end of this decade.

The frustration is not just pointed at Harbaugh.

Since 2000: 2-17 against Ohio State

Since 2007: 4-11 against Michigan State.

Harbaugh hasn't done well against the rivals, but the problems have been there for a long time now.

True facts: if Harbaugh had a .500 record against Ohio State, there would be little to no discussion of the program or his job security.

I don't want to settle for…

I don't want to settle for an endless parade of 8-4 or 9-3 seasons for the foreseeable future.

If you're a Michigan fan, this isn't settling. Michigan's all-time winning percentage is .728. That equates to just under a 9-3 record.

I find it beyond the pale…

I find it beyond the pale that Jerry Kill is a head coach again. His health was an issue during his entire tenure at Minnesota and it's why he had to leave the job.

Someone needs to step in and say enough is enough. I don't begrudge the guy the opportunity to make a living, but TCU is being heartless in multiple ways in this whole episode.

Pete Sampras won 14 majors…

Pete Sampras won 14 majors. That's a crazy comparison.

How about Goran Ivanisevic, who was never better than number 2, behind .... Pete Sampras.
