If these lawsuits are successful in any way, and the attorneys next target high school football (where the concussion protocols, training, and resources are far inferior to college), football associated with high schools (especially public ones) may cease to exist.

Doesn't Brown live in one of the Carolinas? I'm not sure location means much when it comes to "recruiting coverage."
You are being very generous to Brown. His contributions to the genre are worth ignoring, in my opinion.

The BC game was in Massachusetts. I believe Desmond had 4 TDs that day and Derrick Alexander shredded his knee, clearing the path for Desmond's Heisman.

The sound quality on FOX football broadcasts is terrible. It sounds like they're playing in a tunnel. Hopefully that improves in the future.

All the more reason to not follow Rivals, Scout and 24/7, and just watch the game on the field. Nothing else matters.

Title IX isn't an issue for hockey, or it shouldn't be.
It's not hard to add a womens' hockey program if you already have a sheet of ice.
Michigan and Michigan State should look into it some year. It's scandalous their womens' teams aren't D1.

Not sure how FIFA is to blame for this. Advertisements aren't allowed on national team jerseys in official international matches, unless you have evidence to the contrary.
I think it's domestic soccer leagues you're upset at.

There's a very, very easy way for a school to comply with Title IX if it wants to start a mens' hockey program.

Best of 3's were done by the old WCHA in the first round. Logistically they seemed to survive.
The female WCHA hockey conference still does best of 3's.
It's a great way to do the first round.
I think we all agree the first round of the NCAA should be hosted by the higher seed. Let's start there as a first improvement and figure out the nuts and bolts later.

We're not exactly breaking news here, but nobody in Minnesota cares about Big Ten hockey. There were probably more fans at my daughter's U11 hockey game Sunday morning in Edina than there were at the B1G tourney Friday afternoon.
No Gopher fan is going to pay $100+ to go watch a 6-team tourney, especially when there are no true rivals in the conference (the rivals Gopher fans truly care about are UMD, Mankato and North Dakota), and especially after finishing up a 6-week stretch of youth and high school regional finals and state tournaments.
Three weekends ago, the Grand Rapids and Duluth East boys varsity teams played a regional final in front of 7,000 fans in Duluth. Two weekends ago, 19,000 were at the X to watch the boys' state finals between Eden Prairie and Wayzata.
This tournament isn't comparable to those, and isn't worth the time.

O/U on about 300 folks in the stands yesterday at the XCel Energy Center to see Eaves's last game as Wisconsin. This hockey conference is a joke.

What's the standard of play in Michigan high school hockey?
I would be very interested to see some sort of Tournament of Champions where the state champs from Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Michigan and Minnesota all get together and play a round-robin tournament.

Doug Woog took an insane amount of crap and he played at Minnesota.
The reason Lucia has a lot of heat on him is the fact he hasn't won Minnesota a national title since 2003.

The bigger problem, embedded in your reply, is that there is no "athletic department" functioning at Minnesota right now. That's a huge problem.
Lucia is the second best hockey coach at Minnesota right now. Maybe Frost should get the mens' job?

Michigan better hire Pearson before Minnesota moves on from Lucia, because he'd be at the top of their list as well.

Doc Emrick, Gary Thorne or Martin Tyler should call every sporting event. If they aren't available, the game should not be broadcast until one of the two is able to watch it remotely and provide play by play.

I highly doubt this kid redshirts. Redshirting kickers doesn't seem like good business practice. If the kid can contribute he'll play from day one. There's no point in trying to preserve the kid's eligibility in 2020, and if he's as good as David he should be the guy.
And he seems......really good.

Swenson, a highly regarded offensive tackle for Downers Grove South High School in suburban Chicago, appears to have been a victim of a controversial practice known as "oversigning,", where coaches make commitments to more high school athletes than they can grant scholarships to under NCAA rules.
I don't think the author really knows what she's talking about. Oversigning wasn't the issue here.

First off - we really don't know that Schlereth or any living football player.
Second - the lid comes off the can as soon as physicians can begin to scan for CTE on living football players. The minute physicians are able to confirm that a high school football player has CTE will be the minute that the push begins to ban high school football.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||You're right - soccer does||
You're right - soccer does have a risk of concussion.
However, players don't have to knock heads with other players to win the ball (or possession).
Importantly - aren't youth soccer associations starting to outlaw heading in some forms?
You can still play soccer without heading the ball and there are reasonable ways to avoid head-to-head contact in soccer. I'm not sure how it would be reasonable in tackle football.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Sorry, you're wrong. Tackle||
Sorry, you're wrong. Tackle football should be outlawed up until the age of majority. Minors should not be allowed to make this kind of decision. Flag football should replace tackle football until at least 16.
Hockey does not require 3/4 of its players to block each other head-to-head each play. The analogy holds no water. Or ice.
