For most cancers the survival rate is exponentially higher if detected early. Breast cancer in particular, if detected at stage 2 or earlier, has a 90-some % survival rate. But if not detected until stage 4 it is under 30%. As much as the NFL is trying to benefit from image with this, Crucial Catch money is directly tied to making screenings more accessible, particularly in communities where people are less likely to have insurance. Through ACS and partnerships with medical systems in these communities, many women have had their first ever mammogram.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||To be clear, the NFL||
To be clear, the NFL partnership is NOT with Komen, rather with the American Cancer Society - a completely separate nonprofit that has always been an advocate for all screenings and funds more research grants than anyone outside the US government. I've lost family members to multiple forms of cancer and am among numerous cancer survivors in our family. ACS has been extremely helpful in providing education for what we have faced. I've had an association with them for two years now.

I really appreciate this write up, but further evidence of taking some of it with a grain of salt....Kyle says that Doyle played the majority of the game after subbing in early, but the box score claims Donnal played 19 and Doyle 18. He also says Spike didn't play much, but he also played 19. As a fan, there's what we see and then there's what the box score tells us. It's possible that Spike and Donnal were out there half the time indeed and just weren't spectacular.

Burke is in a really interesting situation. He plays for a team with excess guards and centers, and essentially no forwards. So from a Jazz perspective, I imagine they're looking to see which of the guards can play SF and which of the centers can play PF so their lineups are less dysfunctional. With known commodities of Burke, Burks, Hayward and Favors, they really need to find out what Hood, Exum and Gobert can be for them. So summer league needs to be more about Burke being a leader to help those young guys. He'll be fine.
|2 years 27 weeks ago||I know this has been a hugely||
I know this has been a hugely successful event in the past, but I had a question come to mind about it recently. Is the current team heavily involved in this each year? I never know what a coaching staff is allowed to do in terms of providing meals and such, if they can require the players to be a part of something like this or if they're even allowed to be. Maybe they don't want them super involved so they have more time with just the recruits. There are so many gray areas in recruiting and summer stuff with the team that I don't understand.
|2 years 28 weeks ago||Further extrapolation||
Further extrapolation suggests running the ball on offense will be dreadful for UM. We already know the line is young and inexperienced, now we see that based on this list they will face all of the top six teams that aren't themselves, and neither of the worst two. Clearly the run defense is significantly better in the East division. I'm guessing Melvin Gordon ends up a Heisman finalist.

If Henson would have stayed, any chance David Terrell stays as well? It's hard to argue when he was picked 8th overall, but that 2001 team could have done so much more. They replaced a couple amazing players on the line and AT, but if they could have gone through all of that with Henson and Terrell? They certainly could have rolled off 11 wins, but I'm not sure they could have beaten Tennessee, as much as I hate them. That was a terribly lopsided game.

With Glasgow being suspended for at least the first game, Miller being horrible last year, and Kugler never taking a snap, I would be thrilled to have him for leadership and competition/depth. If someone good enough to play, even though he didn't start, on that line and already familiar with the style Nuss uses, he's a valuable commodity. It doesn't hurt a long term scholarship situation and if he never plays it means it's because someone beat him out for the job. I would be ok with that.

The fact that your childhood buddy isn't feeling you or your school isn't bending over backwards to parade you around, that's called people moving on. It happens. Most normal adults don't hang out with the same group of people they did 10-20 years ago. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't mean they are scared or less of a family person. They simply moved the crap on.

Well, for starters Knight leads his team in scoring and assists and could play off the ball better than Stuckey, who could be dealt. Middleton is fourth on his team in scoring and leads them in steals. Between the two of them they have 75 starts and average over 28 points, 8 boards, and 6 assists. Middleton is shooting 43% 3PT. Choo is a guy I was hoping they would sign right from the beginning of FA. I'm lamenting it a bit, and I don't think the team is set just yet, but I do like the moves they made to an extent. I still think they could have gotten more in the Fister deal from either the Nationals or someone else. Lombardozzi is basically Don Kelly but they brought him back. Apparently that means he's Santiago instead. Krol I guess will play the role of Smyly last year. Moving Smyly to the rotation and getting that lefty in there and more innings for him is big.
I'm excited to see what speed and defense can do to improve this team. They may not have as many 7 or 8 run games, but they probably won't get shut out as often either.
I'm still deeply concerned about the bullpen. I would have liked to see them exercise the option on Veras. For that price he's more solid than. Anyone else they could find.

Out of curiosity, is Brent Morris a candidate to join Bakich's team? As the last man standing in that photo, I did a search and found a Rivals baseball recruiting page that shows him having interest in some ESS EEE SEE programs as a pitcher. My inference is that he's at least decent but I don't know how good. Anyone know this, and if pitching at Michigan is a possibility for him?

I think you're right. A number of the people who have been announcing their retirements started during the Bo years. If Hoke is the next Bo, it only makes sense that a number of new people at the beginning of their 20-30 year Michigan careers come in at this time. They all just have huge shoes to fill.

7 losses seems about right........for the basketball team. If football loses 7 it would be freaking armageddon. Hard to see how a team that was 8-5 last year drops so much. So many alleged experts seem to know nothing about this team. They look at the fewest returning starters in the B1G and think that's meaningful. Somehow they missed out on the fact that in a number of those positions there will be likely improvement over last year's now-departed starters. But predictions like these are fun since I love seeing so many people be completely wrong while I laugh.

Maybe there's something to that, or maybe those are the most appropriate answers depending on the questions. If he was asked about a darkhorse, I would think the best answer would truly be someone that no one has talked about. But I feel in years past we've heard darkhorse type comments about guys like Jeremy Jackson - and if Chesson is only Jeremy Jackson this year I'll be dissapointed. As for the lines, maybe the comment about youth, particularly on the DL, is more about depth than starters. He talked about how young we were last year on the OL even when all of the starters were 4th or 5th year guys. Having said ALL of that, I, like you, would be thrilled if Chesson is a contributor (because he's that good, not because there's a need due to others not being productive) and if guys like Pipkins and Henry are so good that they can't be kept off the field either. Mattison certainly wants to rotate a lot so that makes a lot of sense.

I think this roster is certainly playoff-worthy at this point. I'm not sure they can make it to the 2nd round, but it's not like there's a player out there they could realistically grab that would get them to that level. The only downside to being a playoff team is that they would have to then deliver the pick in next year's draft to the Bobcats....err...Hornets (part 3?). That is the supposed deepest draft ever. But we also don't know who for sure will declare for that draft. I suppose it's better to build a playoff roster instead banking on a bunch of unkown future possibilities.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||Valverde was good for the||
Valverde was good for the Tigers for one year. Even that year he was the beneficiary of luck. He had more than a couple "Todd Jones" saves the year he was perfect. By that I mean the saves when a guy gets out of a jam when he inherits a 3 run lead and saves it as a one-run game with the go-ahead run on base. Sometimes the numbers you pick don't tell the whole story. Example, Clayton Kershaw has fewer wins than a number of other pitchers in the league but that doesn't mean those pitchers are better. You could easily argue Kershaw is one of the top 3 pitchers in the game. The pitcher that gave up the GS to Peralta yesterday still has a 0.00 ERA because those were unearned runs, but anyone who watched that game saw him walk 2 and give up a moon shot while getting no one out. I was nervous for at least 25 of those 43 saves.

|3 years 25 weeks ago||Out of curiosity, I looked up||
Out of curiosity, I looked up Calvin's profile from high school and Campbell's got him beat already. At that point Calvin was 6'4" running a 4.44 40 and jumping 36". http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Calvin-Johnson-18332
|3 years 25 weeks ago||So I think comparisons to||
So I think comparisons to Braylon are pretty solid right now. However, the measureables with Braylon are from his Pro Day. He ran a 4.38 40, which Campbell beat at the Opening, with a 38" vertical - one inch higher than Campbell. Heightwise Campbell is maybe an inch taller. Most importantly, Braylon has always suffered from the dropsies. But, well, MSU game. In case anyone wondered, Calvin Johnson ran a 4.35 at his Pro Day with a 42.5" vertical while measuring 6'5". So those are the measureables Campbell could grow in to, just needs to work on getting Calvin's hands as well.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||Porcello would have MUCH||
Porcello would have MUCH better numbers on a team with a better defensive infield. If you look at our starting infielders, all of them are among the worst in the league in range statistics, and have among the worst defensive WAR. For a pitcher who is so good at getting batters to hit ground balls, there couldn't be a worse fit than having him with this infield. I don't blame him for ANY of that. He's developing as a pitcher and improving his secondary pitches. With a different infield he only allows one run today. What more can you realistically ask for in a 5th starter? As for the Smyly/Porcello discussion, realize that if you take Smyly out of the bullpen you have to replace him with someone - now keep in mind the bullpen is already horrible WITH Smyly. How much worse would it be without him? Porcello, the ground ball-inducing pitcher described above, is not a good fit for the bullpen. When you bring a guy in for one inning, you want him to be able to produce sure outs that don't rely on above-average defense.

It's a pretty low-risk move on the Tigers part to see if he can make the transition. I don't imagine it can happen overnight, though Smiley certainly took to it quickly. Next year's draft is supposed to be crazy deep, that's assuming everyone who is expected to declare does. People are assuming that depth includes (according to a fair mock draft I just looked at) 7 of the top 11 picks just graduated from HS. What if some of them stay in school? Of the 4 that aren't included in that? 3 of them just finished their freshman year. What if Kentucky makes it to the Final Four but doesn't win and some of those players decide they want another run at it? There's a chance some of those guys wait a year to improve their stock, since it IS supposed to be so deep. If the team I used to care about can be good, be good. Why tank to keep the pick when the current GM screws up picks like this past year anyhow?

Tony Mitchell cannot play the 3. Tony Mitchell would love to be an Andre Drummond clone. He has all the same strengths and weaknesses, just not as strong and a little weaker. He dunks, rebounds, and blocks shots but his motor and IQ are in question. He will never have the defensive positioning understanding to defend the 3, and doesn't shoot nearly well enough to play it on offense.

By smallest backcourt you mean kinda like the Clippers had with Paul and Chauncey? What's the worry, that every guard in the league would have posted them up all day? How often was that a problem for Trey? Seriously, Joe could have had Trey, Withey as the defensive big off the bench, and Deshaun Thomas as scoring punch off the bench and he ended up with a bag of nickels. There is no defense. Give it 5 years and try to defend it then.

They got their biggest punishment when the pending sanctions scared Kelly off to the NFL. Recruiting has dropped off slightly in recent years as well, from the #9 class in 2011, to #16 to #22. While it's still early, they're at #53 now. That tells me that recruits have been wary and they may have already missed out on many who are unlikely to re-consider even though these penalties aren't terribly harsh. I think 3 years from now we'll be seeing the impact of this dropping Oregon to no better than 7 or 8 wins. For a team that was considered a title contender prior to the Stanford game last year, that's quite a drop.

Is interesting to read expansion speculation. It's sad how clear it is that market dollars drive these decisions. I look at UNC and Virginia (because Virginia Tech, while being more competitive athletically, doesn't fit the B1G profile as a highly rated research university, while Virginia is among the best) and I don't get all giddy. Yes, UNC is a historic powerhouse and they would step into some very natural rivalries with Maryland, MSU, UM, Indiana and OSU, but the football team, while makingh efforts to be relevant hasn't done a ton to impress me. Virginia is far worse, having made it to the Big Dance and a bowl game one once each in the past five years. Much of the same as Rutgers and Maryland. But B1G lacrosse would be amazing.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||Yeah, the big 3 from that DL||
Yeah, the big 3 from that DL class at Florida were ranked #1, #4, and #7 OVERALL nationally - all on the DL. They added 3 top 50 DBs as well to cover the back end.
It's too bad for Florida that fate wasn't kind to them. That trio hasn't played together much. Floyd is gone to the NFL as a 1st round pick, but Easley had a torn ACL in 2011 and missed a couple games last year to have his knee drained and Powell tore his ACL in the spring of 2012 and missed all of last season. Still Florida had the 5th best defense. Imagine how good they could have been if injuries hadn't taken their toll. If they hadn't turned the ball over like crazy, or maybe had they had a healthy Powell, they might have beaten Georgia and finished the regular season undefeated.
That's a lot of ifs, but when I think of UM's recruiting class being historically 2nd to maybe only that class defensively, I get all giggly.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||The good news is he doesn't||
The good news is he doesn't need to beat Prince. That's Hand's job, and one he does quite well. McDowell needs to beat the guy who will be standing next to Prince on a line, or pulling behind him. I think he can do that just fine as he and Hand then sandwich the guy, with Marshall slamming the pile.
|3 years 32 weeks ago||Indiana is a huge choice||
Indiana is a huge choice here.
Seriously unlucky as they've had more than their fair share of better players flirt with going there only to not make it there. Gunner Keil, while not lighting anything up anywhere at this point, had a flirtation with IU where I believe his older brother was playing.
They also seem to choke away games they could win, such as last year against MSU when they were up big only to give up 2 4Q TDs. They also could have beaten Ball St and Navy to end up with 7 wins and a bowl game instead of 4.
They've been hurt by devastating injuries as well.
And yes, a whole lot of suck to go with all of that. Every other B1G program has done at least something of note that I can think of, but IU has just been scary bad and I've never felt like they had any chance to get up off the mat. Ever.

With the likelihood being low of Michigan taking a RB in the class of 2014, do you think they potentially take both Harris and Weber at RB? They have very similar size, so it wouldn't be like taking thunder and lightning. And do you think Weber possiblt goes elsewhere if Harris commits first (which seems very possible given the love Harris frequently shows UM)?
I simply get a vibe that if UM doesn't offer Jayru, and accepts a commit from Harris (can't blame them), that it might chase away Weber and possibly then Alabi. Dominoes falling as a serious blow to the pipeline, especially if they fall toward East Lansing.

Hopefully over the summer the team works something out to be able to get Mitch and another big on the floor together more often. Beilein has done it more during the tourney than he did during the regular season, and I would like to think it will continue.
I want to see this for a few reasons.
First, I want to see Morgan get back to playing with full confidence and bringing to the table what he can. When he's on he's terribly underrated and with all he's done to help this program he deserves to go out strong.
Second, it certainly would be nice to play against teams that rebound well and not get destroyed by them on the boards. That 2nd Indiana game simply destroyed me. Yes, free throws. But out-rebounded 47-26 just won't work. I also realize that foul trouble had a lot to do with limiting McGary's minutes especially, but the team needed a minute each from McLimans and Beilfeldt just to get to 40 total from bigs. To see Mitch, Morgan, Horford, and even some Donnal in there together consistently should be a huge help on the boards.
Finally, Donnal. I just mentioned him, but I think a year with Mitch could be huge for Donnal. Sure, he already has a skill set and work with the other bigs would do plenty for him, but Mitch brings that drive that every player could stand to have rub off on him.

Besides, you have to give Boldin some love since he's from Pahokee.

Yeah, I think the OP's assumption that both THJ and GRIII are back next year is unlikely. While I would certainly love to see them back, I just don't know if it happens. I'm not sure how much THJ can do to improve even more, and GRIII is frequently included among potnetial lottery picks in spite of his late season disappearing acts in some games. While I think he could have major improvements and be a huge factor at UM next season, it would be tough to turn down lottery pick status. People like Zeller just last year have done it with no regrets, but that doesn't mean it's easy.

Either you forgot to add /s or you haven't done your homework.
Looking at some of the top DE's coming out of high school the past 5 years:
2009 - Okafor - reported by scout as 6'5", 229, 4.67 40
2010 - Powell - reported by rivals as 6'4", 230, 4.53 40
2011 - Clowney - reported by scout as 6'6", 235, 4.6 40
2012 - Spence - reported by scout as 6'3", 240
Nkemdiche is the biggest of the bunch at reportedly 6'5", 260, 4.7 40
So if all we're talking about is measuables, Hand is right in line with top DE's across the board - and the guys on the list here have done just fine so far.
Okafor isn't the highest rated DE in the draft but could sneak into the 1st round. Powell tore his ACL in the spring, otherwise might be in the draft. Clowney is being talked about as someone who should declare for the draft. Spence got some PT as a true freshman at the worst school ever. Nkemdiche probably got some money, not included in a Twitter pic.

Why would the SEC want to do that? What with chances to play Savannah State and Louisiana Monroe sitting there so they can score 84 points for their fans and fill their pockets with money for their recruits? Nah, they would never go for a commitment to more big games across the board.
Sure, Alabama has no problem with it. But Florida would have to break from playing Miami and Florida State, etc. I think most of the SEC wants to keep the cupcakes. (oh wait, whoever draws Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue, or Iowa would still get quite the cupcake)
But as the other poster mentioned, the SEC and B1G have a bowl game alignment currently that takes care of most of this.
|3 years 49 weeks ago||I think this will mean the||
I think this will mean the first 2 games every year are even bigger pancakes than what we're used to. Somewhat like Brandon stated in the quote.
That's not good news.
I also don't see teams going to 13 games. With conference championships and bowl games many teams are already played 14. Adding a 13th regular season game would push it to 15 meaning kids are playing almost a full NFL regular season.
Comapre that to basketball where college plays under 40 games, less than half an NBA regular season. Last year M baseball played 56 games, compared to a 162 pro season. Hockey played 41, basically half of an NHL season (that doesn't involve a lockout).
With the two football seasons already so similar (I know, I'm not counting preseason and playoffs) and ALL the health concerns being based on the long-term damage of football specifically, I would be incredibly surprised if more games were added, especially given the addition for top teams once a playoff is in effect. Eventually I would imagine even the NCAA would say enough is enough.

|3 years 51 weeks ago||While the average there is||
While the average there is 429 carries, 2,442 yards, and 22 TD...if you also take out the two who transferred (since, let's be honest, if Green transfers for some reason most of us won't care about his career numbers other than to grot our teeth) the numbers are even better. They go up to 500 carries, 2,893 yards, and 27 TD.
I think the comparisons to Beanie Wells are spot on. The two are closer in size out of high school than anyone else on that list. Wells had a one inch and eight pound advantage. The next closest in terms of size would be Stewart, who was 2 inches shorter but 4 lbs heavier.
Oddly enough, if you look at Stewart's career numbers and the new averages I posted, they are almost exactly the same.
Stewart - 516 carries, 2891 yds, 27 TD
New ave - 500 carries, 2893 yds, 27 TD
And there you have it.

I still think OSU will be a huge game next year. Notre Dame may also be tough. They lose a lot of players (and if we're lucky they lose Kelly as well, perhaps with even more players and recruits following suit) but as it stands there is still serious talent coming back and a great recruiting class with some serious impact-right-away players.
Other than that....maybe some competitive games between Nebraska, PSU, and MSU, but probably wins there.
I think double digit wins is now much more likely, with 11-1 being my guess and 12-0 being a real possibility.

While it's true there are some depth issues still, you did miss a couple that stand out.
Graham Glasgow has been getting some positive reviews from the coaches, and Ben Braden is a large man.
In spite of that, I think watching BCS games has shown that being huge and deep in the trenches is always a good thing.

Can Adidas copy the look of old Nike uniforms? If they can't use the same color because it's trademarked or whatever, I would imagine there is some similar rule about replicating the design, unfortunately.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||It was a 28 point victory,||
It was a 28 point victory, actually.
My biggest concerns for this team are:
-McGary and fouls. In order for him to progress he needs to be able to stay in the game. I don't necessarily want him to be so careful that he becomes tentative, but need to be smarter with his aggressive play.
-I don't want the hype of being the best shooter in the universe to get to Stauskas to the point that he forces shots. He can make any shot if he's in his natural rhythm, but is limited to simply "better than most" if he fires up a well-covered rush ball.
-Horford's health for depth purposes should freshmen "hit a wall" midway through the B1G season.
-Spike letting the game come to him when he's giving Burke a rest
When those are the concerns, and 3 of the 4 are coming from bench guys, this team is in great shape.

Wait, what about Reuben Foster? And a 4-star WR?
|4 years 2 weeks ago||http://www.mlive.com/spartans||
According to this article Bell is meeting with NFL agents and leaving. He can't really help his draft stock much, and with Spartans losing a couple starting interior linemen and looking at another rough year, why would he stay?
NFL running backs are playing on borrowed time. Take the extra year.
Gholston filed paperwork as well, but he regressed this year so I'm not sure he'll get any kind of response he would like.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||I may change my answer to||
I may change my answer to 11-1. I thought ND and OSU were the likely losses. Looking at the two teams, ND will struggle next year. They lose a lot of players. OSU, unfortunately, will probably be even better next year. What little they lose is replaced by possibly better players at many spots.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||10-2 playing for the B1G||
10-2 playing for the B1G championship. I see ND and OSU as the only losses, and those might be winnable. PSU has weapons but no one to get them the ball. Nebraska loses about half of their starters. MSU will still be good defensively even with the players they'll lose, but they won't have a running game (top 2 backs gone and interior line turnover) so they'll have to throw it a lot more, which Maxwell can't do (the job will belong to Cook by then) and if they're one dimensional they'll be eaten.
|4 years 3 weeks ago||After watching the highlight||
After watching the highlight video, I checked out a highlight video of Derrick Walton just to compare. Holy crap, I'm excited for Walton! I'm sure Booker is good and can be a very good player, but Walton seems like the complete package. Sure, it was a highlight video so you don't see the flaws, but he seems to have incredible vision and yet can score at will if he wants/needs to.
Booker could be a nice piece for class of 2014. I'm not sure how long we can count on players to stay now that the level of recruit is higher, but if the whole class of 2013 stays for at least a 2nd year, Irvin could potentially play SF with Booker at SG and Walton at PG.

CMU gave up 89 points to a Nebraska team that averages 61.
UM might go triple digits in this one. Expect to see the end of the bench (Person, Akunne, Vogrich, McLimans, Beilfeldt) to see some strong minutes.
UM wins by 35.
Burke only plays 8 minutes in the second half.
|4 years 3 weeks ago||I wonder how many commits and||
I wonder how many commits and recruits will be swinging by practice the next few days. Many should be arriving soon for practice week at the UA All-American game, which is in St. Petersburg just over 20 miles from Tampa.
Not only will commits like Shane, LTT, McCray, Dawson, Poggi, and Kugler be there, but so will LM3, Treadwell and Isaac. I know, none of the three are likely to end up here, but I'm still holding on for a miracle. In fact, all of the M commits are playing on the same team in the game. Isaac and Treadwell are on that team as well. LM# is the lone one mentioned that is on the other team.
BTW, with Green looking at Miami, are they telling him he can get all the carries James had? Because Duke Johnson is clearly not likely to lose carries. Green could coose to be part of a tandem on a struggling team like Miami, or be the feature back at Michigan. I don't see how that's a difficult choice. Florida makes a lot more sense with Gillislee leaving.

I'm going through withdrawl. It's been almost 2 weeks since the WVU game and all we had was the EMU tease since then. I need tomorrow's tilt against CMU to be here......NOW!
And then conference play begins! AAARRGGHH!!!! HYPE!!!!

How many bowl practices are these kids typically going to? Kids in Florida could go check out a dozen teams in Florida bowl practices, same for kids in Texas.
And are these practices open to anyone or does a recruit have to get an invite? How does this align with the "dead period"?
|4 years 3 weeks ago||About the 1:06 mark after||
About the 1:06 mark after Denard takes the handoff and strolls along, it looks like he cocks the ball back to throw it back behind the line of scrimmage at the end of the play, though the video cuts to the next play before we can actually see it.
Is this a sign that his elbow is healed to the pont that he can grip the ball well enough to throw it? Earlier in the clip he tossed it back underhand.
|4 years 5 weeks ago||For 5 stars he might have to||
For 5 stars he might have to be able to kick from his own endzone and have it downed inside the opposite 5 yard line on 9 out of 10 attempts....which would probably require a hang time of 12 seconds. Even then I'm guessing only 2 of the 4 services give him 5 stars. He would probably have to be able to force a fumble from the returner on the 1 out of 10 times the punt is returned, recover the fumble himself, and break 5 tackles en route to the endzone.
Basically he would have to dominate the game from the punter position, to the point where opposing teams would rather give up a 1st down then have him punt!
|4 years 5 weeks ago||I can't imagine the Pistons||
I can't imagine the Pistons taking Burke when Knight is their PG of the future.
The Pistons need to be done with Austin Daye, since he'll obviously never play. Stuckey shoots about 13%, but he's either going to be the starting SG or 1st off the bench.
PF, C, and PG are set for the Pistons - so they need wings. Guys no smaller than 6'4" that can hit outside shots and drive to the basket without turning the ball over. A little defense would be nice as well. The only way they take someone at a different position is if William Clay Ford buys the team from Tom Gores.
|4 years 5 weeks ago||Please tell me the next move||
Please tell me the next move is shipping one of the contenders for our #5 spot in the rotation, along with Peralta and Boesch to the Rangers for Elvis Andrus.
It makes sense. The Rangers lost Hamilton and Napoli and with that a lot of pop from their lineup. The change of scenery for Boesch, and in that park, could turn him back into a legit power threat, plus he's not advanced in age or terribly expensive if it doesn't work out.
Andrus is too young to justify keeping him at SS if they really want to bring up Profar, though they don't necessarily want it to be all about Profar right away. Peralta also can give them some pop in that park and be a good replacement in the infield, and then ultimately to the spot Michael Young had if necessary.
Porcello could pitch in that park because he doesn't give up many deep balls. He's more of a ground ball guy and that infield, especially when Profar is there, has the range to make a lot more outs than the Tigers did when Rick was pitching.
|4 years 6 weeks ago||The article includes Chad||
The article includes Chad Ford's take as well. Who does he say is the best PG? Carter-Williams? Atkins?
btw, I still can't believe that I was more excited about Carlton Brundidge coming to AA than Burke. Thank goodness Beilein is exceedingly smarter than I and recruited both of them.
|4 years 6 weeks ago||I doubt Beilein wouldn't||
I doubt Beilein wouldn't leave UM at this point. Not only has he said as much, but if you think about it, where would he go? Very few programs would be an upgrade at this point. He has shown he can recruit to a big time university now, so probably only something on Tobacco Road could lure him away...and does he really want to/has a chance to replace Coach K or Roy Williams at this point in his career?
I don't think he would want anything to do with Kentucky, since it would be tough for someone to go in there after Cal and have something other than constant turnover of 4-5 freshmen.
UCLA has the history, but they are a tire fire.
Otherwise, he's sitting in the top basketball conference in the country for now (and the conceivable future) and has his team in the top teir of the conference. I can't imagine he would bolt this job for Indiana (should Crean get a call from the NBA, for example).
All the arguably better jobs out there are unlikely to have a new coach any time soon and I can't believe Beilein would go someplace where he didn't have time to work his system. He's almost 60 so I imagine he would rather stay where his system is already working, with great facilities and support.
Every stop before this had a ceiling. UM has no ceiling for him.
|4 years 6 weeks ago||Well, one upside to their||
Well, one upside to their current class being so good is that UM will only play against any of these kids during the true freshman or sophomore seasons.
At this point my only concern with ND recruiting is the impact on UM recruiting. Not upset about this, but would be furious if Treadwell ended up there.
|4 years 7 weeks ago||I will be rooting for both||
I will be rooting for both head coaches to go so insane on the sidelines in a rant that all potential UM recruits watching feel like they would rather beat that team than play for that coach.
Based on UM's play against both teams, Alabama seemed so physically superior. ND was beatable, and in fact UM outplayed them, but turnovers and execution lost that game. Alabama, as I watched, was an unwinnable game for UM this year.
So I suppose I would feel better if Bama won.
|4 years 7 weeks ago||I agree with all those who||
I agree with all those who think this isn't a great fit. Peterson's entire life and career has been west coast, with the exception of one year at Pitt as an assistant. Like someone said, why not wait out the Kelly rumors at Oregon, or if he's finally ready to take a big conference job, Cal is hiring and about as close as he'll get to his hometown any time soon. Yes, Cal is a mess right now like Arkansas as well, but he's got recruiting contacts and while it's competitive with USC, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon there, it's still less competitive than the SEC.
He would have Cal in a bowl game within 2 years and in the top 25 a year after that, if not sooner.
