I did come up with a workable solution to the wedding dilemma Coach Leach described. Pick one or two completely insignificant details about the wedding and go to the mat fighting for them. It makes them think you really care without getting in the way of 99% of the decisions that need to go the way of the bride, MIL, etc. For me, it was the soup and not letting the DJ play YMCA.

The simpletons of the college football world, who are everywhere, will blather on incessantly about how head-to-head is everything and it's not even debatable that Michigan should be in over a team it lost too, no matter when, where, or how. Mix in a generous dose of Notre Dame darlingism, hatred of Michigan/Harbaugh, and Jim Delaney gazing lovingly at his navel (it's where he keeps his cash) and I could totally see us getting left out. I see a better chance of us getting over one-loss Bama, given they have not played anyone and they wouldn't want to leave out three conferences, than one-loss ND. So Roll Tide, I guess.

And as has been noted, only the die-hardiest of the die-hard M fans are watching this one. You're not getting any more viewers by placing it strategericly. Stick it at noon and be done with it so people can make plans.
Not exactly on topic, but if you're at all into soccer, State of the Union with Alexi Lalas and David Mosse is a good podcast that gives a quick runaround the world of soccer from an American perspective. This isn't altogether non-Michigan as Lalas is from Birmingham and Mosse went to UM and wrote for the Daily. Michigan sports comes up on a semi-regular basis though it is obviously not the focus.

How does he even put it on? How many tax dollars were wasted on a helmet that allows a man to wear his giant hat in space?
We only need them to lose to OSU and for us to win out. I say this as someone who has split his life between Michigan, Texas, and the DC area. Living in Michigan is hard, and it's not for everyone. Especially this time of year, when it seems like everyone is starting to get some spring, and you have another month or two of drearyness. But, as many here have eloquently stated, the rewards of living in Michigan -- the people, the natural beauty, the activities, but especially the people -- are boundless. To borrow a phrase from A League of their Own, it's the hard that makes it great.
So be brutally honest about it. Set a period of time (a year or so), to see how she likes it and honestly agree to make another move if she hates it. If she knows its not a forever move (necessarily), she will probably be much more willing to give it a try. Don't worry about the money -- you'll probably live better on less in Michigan and being happy about where you live and what you do has a value of its own. But above all, make the decision together and stick with whatever you decide.
Last weekend I listened to the game as I was headed to a party. When I got there, I watched the end of the half, then went outside. Because I know better now, I checked my phone before going back in to catch the rest of the game and it was 20-7, then quickly 27-7, and I just said F it. I'm not going to ruin my evening with this garbage.
This weekend we were planning to go up to Jersey, but opted instead to go to the Florida - Tennessee game because my wife is a Gator. We'll be back home in plenty of time for the game, but there is no way my relatives are going to opt for M-Rutgers over LSU-Auburn and I'm not going to protest or try to find another TV. I'm done for now. I hate that, but I more hate watching them fail over and over again.
I understand the negatives on pom-poms, but I have to say that, on TV, when it's a big moment and 7NA is playing and everyone is in rythm, it looks pretty sweet. It's like the whole stadium is pulsating.
I think they only do it for games already played, but they get a fan of each team to do a running commentary on the game. I think its a brilliant concept if you get the right people, though between the idioms and insider knowledge, pretty much everything went over my head the one time I tried to watch it. Still, I would love to see ESPN try this more with former players of each team, and tell them to go ahead and be as biased, funny, and irreverant as they want.
Dad went to MSU, so growing up in Michigan, I rooted for them, even though my mom was UM and my first cfb experiences were all at Michigan Stadium. Then we moved to Texas, and one of my few connections to home was M games (MSU not on national TV). I guess I officially switched with the 89 Rose Bowl. Then it came time to pick a school, M said yes, Dad said yes, Desmond caught that pass, and it was over.

Brian, the opening to this post was brilliant. The more you know about these kids, the more you want to seem them rewarded. And dammit, if I have to teach 95% of Michigan fans in twenty years how this group of seniors saved Michigan football, I hope I can still link back to these posts to do it.
They have not put anyone away, even the bad teams on their schedule. South Carolina should have had a shot at a tying field goal if not for bad call with the clock and refusal to review. Not saying they don't deserve to be ranked, but no way should they be above any undefeateds in the 10-15 range.
Could we get a brief recap of what the previous teams we've played did last week? Not the full write-up / preview report, but just whether they won or lost and their current record? Would be nice to get a gauge of our strength of schedule.
First, move them where? They wouldn't get moved to the Southeast, and there is nobody to move out of the Northeast or Atlantic without splitting up the New York area teams or the Pennsylvania teams, which I don't think would be wise.
Second, there is a much more natural team to move into the Southeast in Nashville, which aligns better with southern teams like Carolina and the Florida duo than with the midwest.
Third, while flying across four time zones is murder during the playoffs, the Wings fit well in the midwestern Central Division with long-time rivalries against Chicago and St. Louis and a burgeoning rivalry with Columbus.
More likely, I see three options, none of which involve moving the Wings:
1. Winnipeg to NW, Minnesota to Central, Nashville to SE
2. Winnipeg to NW, Colorado to Pacific, Dallas to Central, Nashville to SE
3. Winnipeg to NW, Colorado to Pacific, Dallas to SE.
Personally, I would go with 1, which minimizes moves, is a better fit for all three teams, and brings back most of the old Norris cities.
Brian, I never would have taken you for a REK fan. I love that album, especially his vignettes, and that one is my second favorite (behind the guys sitting in the back yard around a window unit air conditioner).
And as for hitting bottom, as tough as this loss was, we were there. In the arena. Despised, maybe, but relevant. Hell, I love being despised. I'll take an OT loss in the national championship (an effective coin toss) over two bowl-less seasons and a decade out of the NCAA Bball tournament.
It's obviously Alabama and SEC focused, but a hilarious read. My only regret about it is that he really doesn't go into any detail about the end of the '99 season for Bama (a heartbreaking loss (for them) to Michigan in the Orange Bowl).
