Hate to be that guy and I'll probably get negged really badly but... chesson has a star and a shield. Is that right based on this year'a production?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but how are the stars for Michigan determined? PFF numerical cutoff? UFR numerical cutoff? Feelingsball? Just curious.

It's dangerous too. It was one of the SBnation writers, I forgot who, was saying he went to cover a game and saw multiple people get hurt during the field rush. There's a reason most schools don't allow it...

They rush the field after every win. Maybe after every game period. It's their thing.

Amazing story. You need stuff like this with all the swirling negativity around the NCAA and football in general these days.
Als, a little kid made that speech? That was exceptionally articulate.

I'm actually pretty sanguine about the OL, I feel like the guys who have been in the system for multiple years and were recruited by Harbaugh / Drevno will be ready to play. With our haul this year we might also be in line to get one or two of those superstar recruits who is ready to go in year 1.
What worries me most is WRs. I know we have raw talent there but I've seen a few advanced stat guys who say that returning WR production is one of the best predictors of offensive success (not returning OL or QB as is commonly believed). I'm afraid of what losing Darboh, Chesson, and Butt all in one year will do (although TE I think will be just fine). We'll see.

The blue death? Kind of like the Black Death / bubonic plague. Because 50% of quarterbacks exposed to the blue death will die.

Omg that was amazing. Thank you so much for that

They really shouldn't have made it personal. Talking about rivalries and fencing the garden and striping the garden and how much they hate Michigan. They asked for this and they got what they deserved. Good riddance, and maybe next year they'll learn not to talk so much.

This: "All players of similar race and stature should have vastly different numbers." elicited a hearty belly laugh from me. But then, yeah - you're kind of right.
Is this maybe the best DL Michigan has had in the modern era?
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||I still don't see how that||
I still don't see how that favors limiting camps. If 10 schools do 10 camps due to a limit of 10 per school that's 100 camps. But if there's no limit and 10 schools do 20 camps, that's 200 camps. How does limiting the number encourage schools to do additional camps?
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||I'm not sure I follow his||
I'm not sure I follow his logic. How will limiting the timeframe inspire more schools to hold camps? Can't they hold as many as they want under the current rules? If he's just saying this to flip the script and screw w/ the NCAA and SEC that's great but if he really feels this way I don't understand the reasoning.

I'm cool with the team being showcased in prime time for, you know, actual prime time games (eg Wisconsin at 330). It's good for exposure and national cachet. A 7pm blowout against Rutgers does nothing for our national image.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Perhaps my original post was||
Perhaps my original post was ill-phrased. I am going to watch Michigan. I never miss Michigan. Ideally I'd like it so that lopsided games between Michigan and other teams (e.g. Rutgers) were played in non-prime time time slots so I can watch both Michigan and the prime time matchups. That's all I meant. Seems I've upset quite a few posters with my comment, which, geez, sorry guys. Can I still be a Michigan fan please?

That's kind of my point. I'm a fan of Michigan so I can't possibly watch those games. I will faithfully watch Michigan and miss all the competitive / impactful games. Why can't this be at noon during the other probable blowouts so we can have both?

Seriously, having this game at 8pm is a fucking joke. What if I maybe would like to watch FSU Miami or Alabama Arkansas?

|2 weeks 3 days ago||Could you clarify what you||
Could you clarify what you mean by this? Lots of people have said it's too much to do all three kicking phases - why? You kickoff a small handful of times, you punt a small handful of times, and you kick field goals and EPs a small handful of times. What's so taxing about that? Why does adding 2-3 kicks per game suddenly become so onerous? How much focus does one need when you're only in the game 10% of the time?
|3 weeks 12 hours ago||He's one of the best route||
He's one of the best route running TEs I've ever seen - same basic reason Perry keeps getting open. On the play Brian shows above he's able to hold the safety a half second before quickly cutting back inside. He is really good at the fake outside and turn back inside (or vice versa). When coaches talk about a guy being a fluid route runner I think he is what they mean. This is party of the reason why receiving isn't all just speed - a slower guy who runs amazing routes will get himself open much more often than a guy who is fast in a straight line but is a stiffer runner. Think Larry Fitzgerald vs Ted Ginn

Great work man! Saturday can't come soon enough... gonna be my only game at the Big House, I'm ready to be very loud...
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Totally agree with this take.||
Totally agree with this take. I've heard so many national pundits talk about how good UW is at running the ball but it's just not true at all. Their OL is mediocre to bad and Hurst might literally kill that center. We need Speight and co to really protect the ball because without short fields and a kicker, Wisconsin is going to struggle to put up many points.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||This is a dumb take IMO. Just||
This is a dumb take IMO. Just based on the quality of the defenses this is likely to be pretty close, I don't see either team cresting much over 28-35 barring some crazy special teams or turnover happenings. This is by far the best defense we've faced so far - while I think we'll pull away eventually as nobody will be able to run but Speight > Hornibrook and our WRs / secondary > their WRs / secondary, it's gonna be a slugfest.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Re: Hornibrook, watching him||
Re: Hornibrook, watching him live I was not super impressed. I remember thinking he had very little in the way of arm strength as he threw several fluttering moonballs on 3rd and long to wide receivers who were basically not being covered by MSU's secondary. Balls like that against UM will be batted down or intercepted in a lot of cases. Their D is legit though - I think we will not have a lot of fun running and will do it mostly to keep our PA pass game credible. We'll see.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I'll bite. That same backup||
I'll bite. That same backup QB put up over 500 yards and just won at Autzen, while vaunted LSU just fired their coach after four games and apparently doesn't have a functional QB. MSU and LSU might both be favored over CU right now on a neutral site, but I bet it would be <10 point line. Also - what about Georgia State? We struggled against CU and they struggled against them... And finally if you actually watch the MSU game, Wisconsin didn't look that good down to down. They dominated a pretty weak MSU offense but when UW was on offense they were getting into 3rd and long frequently and landing Hornibrook moonballs to wide open WRs, which won't happen in the Big House. Massive turnover disparity was the name of the game then.
But all that stuff is touch feely. Just look at the Vegas line. Always, always look at the Vegas line, that's usually all you need to know.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||I think the rushing success||
I think the rushing success was nice but on the first watching I thought it was pretty notable how poorly PSU's D line and LBs were playing. It's going to be very different vs. Wisconsin and I wouldn't be surprised to see a gameplan more similar to UCF where we work on testing UW's corners rather than their front 7. In fact I think that's why we didn't take any deep shots - there was no reason to in this game. If you can get 5 yards every time you rush, just keep rushing.
From our defense, this was basically a perfect game. Virtually no mistakes, and the PI calls were iffy. I think Wisconsin is going to struggle to get to 14-17 points barring crazy flukes / turnovers as they haven't been great running the ball and don't have crazy speed on the outside to test us. I think we win via ST, field position, and a few timely short drives on a score something like 28 or 31 to 14.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Eh, our lowest point total||
Eh, our lowest point total was 45 points so far. Even if this is a big step up in defense, who's to say we can't get to at least 28 or 31? Keep in mind our offense plays with short fields basically all game every game because of Peppers / ST and that's not going to go away this week just because Wisconsin has good linebackers.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Not sure how much it matters||
Not sure how much it matters who your LBs are when you have a DL like this. I'd be pretty surprised to see Wisconsin's OL getting to our LBs clean as they haven't looked like a great rushing team so far this year. We'll see.
