But really, there are 52 saturdays a year. Keeping 12-15 off the schedule still leaves 40 possible weekends for weddings.

And you can take one train line from one to the other.
However I doubt the Cubs will be in town on November 11th when Michigan plays NW... even if the called up kids do well.
|1 day 17 hours ago||Northwestern||
Is about 10 miles from Wrigley. It's in Evanston, not Chicago, and as any Michigan fan who has been to a game there will tell you the stadium gets awfully maize-and-blue for Chicago's Big Ten Team.
That said, it is really easy to do a weekend in Chicago and hit a game in Evanston. The El train drops you off about 2 blocks from the stadium, there will be about 25,000 other Michigan fans, and no one at Northwestern takes themselvs too seriously about sports.

It seems like you've done this some, but calling out who is the "HSP" and what they're categorized as each year might show a bit more of what you're looking for. Some years it's a safety, some a CB, some a small LB. I think your main point might hold though, the rise of the HSP happened earlier than noted.
|2 days 14 hours ago||I think your point speaks to one above||
Doing "new" things and doing them poorly. Sure, fireworks after the game might pull in kids, the White Sox do it all the time and in that thread most people thought it was no big deal.
But during the game? After a touchdown? How about the band plays the Victors after TDs?!?!
That's what Brandon's missing. Any school in the country can set off a firework - only Michigan can play the best fight song in the land. Anyone can make ca-razy new uniforms, only Michigan has the winged helmet (and Delaware...).
I think that we have missed DB's line to: It's it's not broke, break it!

Good point, let the players unionize and negotiate the cap.
Almost exactly like every other sports league...
|2 days 18 hours ago||Why can't soccer leave the NCAA like your baseball proposal?||
If there are already teams out west that are minor league MLS teams associated with a university, why not do that in general? Can't Michigan teach a team of soccer players that don't participate in the NCAA? Form their own league, etc like you recommend with B1G Baseball?

Your username makes your comment even better.
So lets say some players, as your username suggests, are getting paid already. Besides the issue of player salary, what's the difference between college and minor league games?
|2 days 20 hours ago||I'll throw my answer in the comments||
I may have been leading in the way I phrased the question, but here's my answer: Remove likeness rights, allow athletes to make money with the olympic model, let the Big 5 conferences get autonomy and have those big 5 agree on a "total cap" of spending above and beyond tuition, room and board for scholarship athletes - call it $3M/year or so, but they could negotiate a number. Here's what everyone gets out of the deal:
Revenue athletes; The ability to market themselves and make money today from what their doing, however they don't get any extra benefits direct from the university which satisfies part 2. Allow athletes to unionize so that they have representation with the NCAA and allow certified agents to represent players. The NCAA could police the agents hard and put their random enforcement people to better use.
Non rev/Title 9 - They make the same new benefits direct from the university and could market themselves. Michael Phelps could have officially swam for Michigan under this scenario. For the 27 sports, figure around 500 scholarship athletes they would each get $6,000 per year if the cap was $3M.
Admins/ADs: Only additional costs are those which the conferences negotiate ($3M per year in my scenario). I assume most ADs will also lose some booster money which could flow towards athletes more directly (figure random business owner pays QB to be in a commercial rather than donate to AD) in my scenario, but that's kind of how it works in every other business. Plus I doubt the million dollar donations that go towards buildings will become millions towards players.
Fans - As I see it this doesn't change the game for fans much. If DG were legit sponsored by a car dealer and drove a nice car that doesn't differ much from Pryor's "leases" except it being allowed. Fans might end up footing the bill for the "spending cap" of $3M in my scenario, but considering that fans are already milked dry, I don't think the AD wanting more money will be news.

Big fan of the movie "Big Chill". It's not without it's problems (Why attemp to jump into a 911 targa? That's not a convertible! There was a jeep right there...) but I doubt that will be the movie shown - my money's on something more family friendly than one that has the opening credits over scenes of (SPOILER ISH? Are the opening credits a spoiler? Can I still spoil a movie from the 80s?) slit wrists.
Second, iPhone battery life is awful but at least it charges quick. 70% at 7PM and you should be fine Wolverine Devotee.
Third, BiSB is most likely reading HTTV out loud to his toddler every night anyway. If that's not an internet podcast waiting to happen....

If fireworks go off, our game will be JUST like the game at Jerryworld! Which wasn't stale adn corporate at all! Why do you need the band to play "the Victors" after touchdowns when we could have FIREWORKS go off!! Decades of tradition (like the band) doesn't build familiarity. Offering everything that you can get at any sporting event in the country (fireworks, rawk, advertising) only offering it BETTER is what Michigan should be all about.

They've got this new thing called an alarm clock. Get your ass out of bed at 7am and you've got 5 hours to pregame (which is more than enough). Noon games were the best because by 4pm you're walking home, with $5 pizza there and/or places for dinner and time for a nap (as said above) before showering and heading to the bar.
Whereas a 3:30pm game lets out at 7:30, all the places to get food near campus are absolutely slammed, so you can either: pass out from being tired (and not go out), eat, or get to a bar before the line is ridiculous (with maybe enough time to shower).
Noon games allow MORE time for extra curriculars.

My dog had a hell of a time, we had to leave my nephew's 1st birthday party because she kept bolting indoors, shaking, and in general being a wreck.
In less anecdotal news, most pet shelters see a spike around the 4th, with about twice as many lost pets showing up than any other time of year. It's rough on them.
Back to anecdotes, my dog's name is Maize - Brandon hates Maize?!?!! #TheBrand
