|22 hours 36 min ago||The shoe companies don't give $$ direct to the kids||
What will happen is a company (say, Adidas) will sponsor a local AAU team. Adidas will give thousands of dollars worth of gear, apparel contracts to the coaches, etc. This is all "legal". What will happen is the company then has authority and sway over the coach, one of the kid's biggest influences. The kid chooses another company's school (say, Nike) and Adidas pulls all that money away from the coach. The kid's friends who are still playing AAU now have no gear, no shoes, no sponsorships, nothing.
It's not exactly blackmail, but it's definitely a way to get indirect influence.

We don't know that Dr. Zoltan Kovacs is evil. We just know that he's got a brain clot and has invented miniaturization that lasts for exactly 60 minutes.
|5 days 19 hours ago||Agreed on #16|
|5 days 21 hours ago||Good question||
I think that it'll be better evaluated like an NFL draft class. In 5 years, see how many recruits he gets. It's not only recruits for this year, it should be the releationships with local coaches, teams, etc. that can lead to new recruits.
|5 days 21 hours ago||I found it glorious||
He went to celebrate/taunt but then he got terrified that he was going to get caught. So close to being so awful for other ways.

I was promised this video. I get this video.

|6 days 20 hours ago||Are you sure?||
By chance does she call her shots? Or drive a Chevrolet Impala? Because, if so, I'm pretty sure it's a very high compliment
|6 days 21 hours ago||I dont doubt that and I know||
I dont doubt that and I know that sweat messes it up too. But c'mon man. It's called a uniform... the colors should match.
|6 days 21 hours ago||I could not care less||
Pictures on computers don't mean a ton to our eyes on gameday. The tweaks in "maize" have mostly been made to make the uniforms look better on TV as that tech has changed.
HOWEVA - make the "yellows" UNIFORM! It drives me nuts when the wings don't match the numbers don't match the pants. Pick one and stick to it.
|6 days 21 hours ago||Agreed on Sugar Bowl||
I liked those the best of all the white jerseys we've worn over the last few years.
|1 week 13 min ago||Yay basketball||
There's definite hope in football (HARBAUGH) and also here (Depth? Upperclassmen?).
Also, quality Futurama reference and that picture of Walton is just outstanding. Is that the face he often makes playing basketball??
|1 week 1 hour ago||Exactly||
Those Michigan people are all resort-destroyers anyway.
|1 week 1 hour ago||Love the show, BBC had to fire him||
It's a total no-win. Everybody loses out because of Jezza's behavior.
That said, Clarkson actually owns lots of the rights to Top Gear - it's i believe leased to the BBC. The BBC doesn't own the airfield, test track, etc. I think there might be very little to stop Clarkson (and May and Hammond) from continuing on if they so choose. The rumors are that Netflix will pony up the cash. I think HBO would be another suitor. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this, but yeah, talk about a hostile work environment. He had to be "sacked"
|1 week 2 hours ago||Wolves?||
Has to be either wolves or Wolfpackers, right? I think that we can agree that wolfpackers makes the most sense.
|1 week 22 hours ago||Nice post Ace||
That GIF speaks volumes to his athletic ability. He's just moving at a different speed than everyone else.
AND HE GOT HURT IN GARBAGE TIME!!!!One1!!
|1 week 23 hours ago||Nice write-up Seth||
I think you've done a nice job explaining that "formation" isn't the same as "scheme" - hands in the dirt dont equal gapping/style of defense. We've seen some of the DL successfuly 2-gap in the past... I think that this defense might be pretty good.
|1 week 1 day ago||I like Legends Jerseys||
I think they're a nice way to keep those numbers in circulation while honoring them. Howeva, I don't like the numbers changing. If a guy wants to wear one, when it opens, he asks the coaches for the honor, maybe writes a paper/does some history on why it's a Legend Jersey and why he wants to wear it, then it's his for the rest of his career. Incoming freshmen are eligible to get it too.
I'm anti-helmet sticker, I like the clean look. that said, if Harbaugh asked I'd say go for it...
Difficult sports confession? I was sober and stayed for the whole M00N game. That was difficult.

Michigan's new recruiting event: Chowdown at the Cracker Barrel
|1 week 1 day ago||Not quite||
Players are drafted and where the players play is up to them. All good prospects typically have thier rights owned by an NHL team. What the player then does is up to the player (often with team input). Some NHL teams will steer players to certain junior teams, or they're fine with them going to the NCAA. Very rarely will a drafted player head up to immediate NHL team control (Top 1-5 guys can go straight to the Minors (AHL) and skip juniors, but it's rare). Once a player signs a contract (either an NHL/AHL contract, or a Junior contract) they're no longer NCAA eligible. The player decides when to sign based on the offer.
Jack Johnson was drafted by Carolina, who wanted to sign him direct to an NHL contract after the NCAA season and he refused, stayed in Ann Arbor another year. Carolina wasn't happy and traded his rights to LA.

Get rid of the commercial break. Right now it's TD/ ad/EXP/ad/kickoff/ad
That's the problem, not the kicking itself.
|1 week 5 days ago||Hey look!||
That diary I wrote in 2011 about the 4-3, 3-4, the under and personnel is still relevant. Shameless plug:
|1 week 6 days ago||Similar||
There were similar ones at "The Victors Collection" - By the M Den - basically the MDen's fancier new neighbor that sells khakis, ties, blazers, etc. Nothing's cheap but it's all high quality. They're not online yet, but they're working on it. It's next to the State Street MDen if you're local.

Hockey concussion as a sophomore goalie thanks to an assistant coach's slapshot from the hashmarks
Partially tore the UCL in my right hand (not the elbow UCL) in Mudbowl as a freshman at Michigan and partially tore it again after. No surgeries (yet) but arthritis is in the future and my joint's permenantly really unstable.
|2 weeks 29 min ago||I love Coach B||
And the 2-3 and 1-3-1 changeups have been great this year... but:
|2 weeks 32 min ago||Should have gone the other way||
If the NCAA were really "thinking of the children" to paraphrase Helen Lovejoy they should have taken this the other way. Players can transfer without sitting out a year if:
Head coach leaves, primary recruiter leaves, position coach leaves.
Playing time, family issues/close to home, etc could still go before an appeal process. This would encourage ADs ensure coaching loyalty and making the right hire and would make the coaches more beholden to the program rather than able to jump ship for any reason.
Coaches can go anywhere, why not their players?
|2 weeks 3 hours ago||Now that was an entertaining interview||
Seems like a real smart guy, I like the idea that we have someone committed to special teams (COUNT TO 11!) but who can also take such a strong focus on the academic side. Between Coach Baxter and Momma Gwen there can't be many programs more impressive to a recruits parents (who aren't looking for bagmen).
|2 weeks 20 hours ago||Re: Glasgow||
I don't think that he was necessarily driving when tested, if that was confirmed either way I haven't heard.
That said, 0.08 is around 4 drinks* in an hour for a 180lb man. Glasgow's about 300lbs. Whatever the reason/circumstances/etc, it's not like he had one beer at dinner and then got tested by his probation officer. While he hopefully wasn't driving, he had to have probably at least 6 drinks in an hour on Sunday morning - while on probation. You'd at least worry about his decision making after that.
*drinks are 1 shot of 80 proof liquor, a glass of wine, or a beer. You remember how to "stay in the BLUE" right?
