I theory it would, but there…

I theory it would, but there’s two issues:

1) I can’t imagine CMU admitting they invited him. At best, it was done “hush hush.” If there’s a FOIA returnable email from their staff to Stalions then they deserve a larger punishment

2) I’m not sure motive matters in the sense of why he was there. A hypothetical would be, if Maryland coaches invited an OSU staffer to their sidelines when we played them to allow the filter of OSU’s “scouting knowledge” to assist in bringing down Michigan. We’d all be furious, and though it’s probably not strictly prohibited by black letter rule, it’s likely something that all teams would frown upon equally.

All give this a shot —

I’ll give this a shot —

In person scouting is strictly prohibited by NCAA. There seems to be overwhelming evidence that Saltions was at CMU. Regardless of why, that’s a violation. Harbaugh and Michigan need to be held accountable for breaking a rule that (may have) provided them some advantage.

It seems clear now that everyone was “stealing signs” but the scheme of using a system to circumvent the rule prohibiting on site scouting seems against the spirit of the ban as well.

To be clear, I don’t think we did anything wrong that others weren’t (and aren’t) doing. But that’s the most objective I could be when playing devil’s advocate

His past absolutely has a ton to do with it. It’s 2021 and teams are looking to avoid being known as enablers. Look what just happened with the Mets GM. Also, the lions had this when Patricia’s past came out after he was hired and it wasn’t a good look.

Also, the fact that Peterson and Nagy have failed (or are failing) takes a lot of shine off his candidacy. Those guys both did EB’s job before, came out with better perigee, and failed. No reason to think the guy who inherited the Ferrari is capable of building his own.

I believe 10-15 states already have similar laws in place. You have to assume all 50 will sooner or later as they don't want their schools, businesses, churches, or state institutions to be under constant threat of litigation.

My first thought was that the ESPN crew forgot to pack cameras 2-5 and the producer just said "fuck it, lets run this with one camera from a terrible angle and play it off like some fancy promo"

Or?

No.
Next Question.

No.

Next Question.

Not to split hairs but it’s

Not to split hairs but it’s actually "presumed innocent until proven guilty"

A conviction (or acquittal) means absolutely nothing about whether or not you actually committed a crime. Just ask OJ Simpson... or Ryan Braun

Wanna tell us who they are??

Wanna tell us who they are??

I was just about to make a

I was just about to make a post about this because I heard the same thing and it caught me off guard.

FWIW here's a link to his rivals page. Not very informative.

I'm guessing nothing comes of it...

Isn't his dad

Isn't his dad the one that started the school where Canteen/Watson go basically to ensure that his son ended up at USC?

Moreover, didn't Sills commit to USC when he was like 13 or 14?

Seems like a weird offer.

Probably OT

Probably OT ... even in the offseason.

As someone

As someone who worked as a prosecutor I think it’s critically important to point out that the idea of "innocent till proven guilty" is a total misnomer and not actually a thing in this country.

The real saying is "presumed innocent until proven guilty." I know it’s nuanced, but just because you're proven innocent does not mean you are actually innocent. Just look at OJ Simpson.

As such, please PRESUME he is innocent, but know that even if acquitted, he may be very very guilty.

Or maybe not...

How about the Jibreel Black

How about the Jibreel Black one handed sack in overtime?

I was at the game and it looked super awesome live...

Morris

Is that Shane Morris behind Mattison's right shoulder in the picture above -- the guy wearing khaki pants and a headset?

Perhaps this was the "injury" many alluded to when they said that we might try and get him a Medical Redshirt?

Or I'm dumb, and it's just not him and its some GA or team manager...

Wow

Less than 30 second after the announcement. Well done Ace.

Because Rodno

Because Rondo would have cost them way more than Knight.

Probably would have cost them Monroe.

Are you implying

Are you implying that the cost of litigation/settlement is going to exeed the cost Detroit residents would have paid in the long run?

If you are, you are wrong.

Sure it will cost an arm and a leg in the upcoming months/years, but it will eventually pay for itself tenfold.

Just ask United Airlines...

Keith Olberman

He always seemed like a total Blowhard to me...

I bet the show sucks for the following reasons:

1) He is a blowhard

2) ESPN has the PC Police on speedial limiting any actual discourse

3) ESPN isnt the only dog in the show anymore -- people don't have to watch shows like "The Sports Reporters" to get their sports fix if they don't want too...which few do...except old people

4) Its probably going to air in the coveted "right after the Midwest Poker Stars" slot which no one cares about. Honestly, if the progaming on ESPN is lame how many of us actually flip to ESPN2 hoping there's something better over than than whatever's airing on the mothership

5) No one gave a crap about his shows on MSNBC or the channel he tried to start after getting canned for being a blowhard that no one watched. Am I missing something, but what's different here except "sports"

Did you hear

Did you hear the one about the guy who got shot and it blew off the whole left part of his face...?

You didn't?

Well, don't worry, he's ALL RIGHT...

/ZING!

Looks like there are 3 other Parade All Americans in the Big Ten

Peter Jok -- Iowa

Mark Loving -- Ohio

Luke Fischer -- Indiana

Not a huge deal, but maybe should be corrected...

I'd argue that posting

I'd argue that posting something like that without knowing all the facts is gross negligence...

News flash

Every team in the league lacks talent in certain areas. As you mentioned our O-line sucks and are safety play has been atrocious all season.

What you seem to ignore in all your responses is that Schwartz seems to condone the undisciplined play that has undone the lions countless times over the past few seasons. Either that or he's just in totally over his head -- which is possible after how he blew that challenge on Thanksgiving.

I understand how awful the lions were, and I appreciate their improvement, but to a certain extent it's merely a regression to the mean. As stafford got healthy and Megatron began to emerge as the best WR in the NFL they were bound to win at least 4-5 more games.

In my opinion you're giving him way to much credit. This team could/should be better.

So

So you're saying you'd like to keep Jimmy Jocksniffer for another season?

Outside of that your argument is "bears should have won more games 25 years ago, Culter and Marshall are unlikeable and our O-line blows"

Well, you're right, our offensive line does suck and Tice has struggled with the consistency of his plays, but wre still in the thick of the division and playoff chase.

In all honestly, you guys probably have more talent on your roster than we don, but Schwastz and co. Have done their best to crap all over it. That's why our games matter and yours don't.

Can you even remotely defend Schwartz's handling of the thanksgiving flag? The wide receiver diva situation? Suh's continued insistence to play dirty even when it hurts the team. The Harbaugh thing? The penalties? The arrests?

You and I both know the lions are better than their record. The blame for that falls on the head coach...

I'm a bears fan, so I'm

I'm a bears fan, so I'm rooting for the lions to to tonight, but that TD was absurd.

More importantly, how long can you guys really keep Jim Schwartz? The lions are by far the undisciplined team in the league and he seems totally clueless. Every team has its fair share of idiots an/or trouble makers but the lions seem full of them.

It started with the harbaugh thing, then Suh, then its just gotten progressively worse. There may be a fine line between "physical/bullies" and totally undisciplined cheap shot artists. Just look at the penalty they took after the TD tonight...or the challenge flag on thanksgiving.

I'm a bears fan, so I hope he stay 25 years, but if I'm a lions fan I want his head on a stake. He's taken a talented core and wasted 2/3 years with his only successful playoff run the year the bears fell apart through injury.

Its actually "presumed

Its actually "presumed innocent until guilty" -- there is a big difference between actually being innocent and being presumed innocent.

Am I Crazy...

I am I crazy, or was he never really interested in Michigan. I thought he was a sparty lock real early on, because that whole "UM Didnt know my name and called me Tom Gholston" thing has always seemed like a bunch of BS

Like I've always said

It's not the size that counts...

It's how you use it!

Probably tomorrow night

In a trial of this magnitude closing arguments will likely take an entire day.

There will also be the reading of jury instructions which may well take 3-4 hours. I'd be we don't get a verdict till early/mid next week...

A night

Hell spend the night in jail and he'll plead guilty to tomorrow morning for time considered served and a $200 fine...

As a prosecutor

As a prosecutor I can tell you that listing witnesses is far more about preserving your right to call them at trial than it is about your actual intent to call them...

That being said, I'd be stunned of they didn't call McQuery. The case is nearly impossible to prove wothout him.

Anyone else planning to EE

I know I read somewhere that a couple kids are trying to EE. I know Shane can't, and I know it's usually a fluid situation (think DG), but does anyone have a working list?
