etymology joke?

Is that a pun on pur being the Greek word for "fire"?  If so, +1,000.  (If you're just getting at pyre/pyrrhic, still, +100.)  If not, I'm a dork, and carry on.  Actually, I'm a dork either way.

Has no one noted this yet?  Go to the Daily article:

Look at the picture.  The man is pointing at something.  This is reassuring.

I hadn't know that Chuck Forrest was at the law school.  This just makes him, and UMLS, that much cooler.

UM law school made this same category, btw

Same category, $400:

"Dropped Bankruptcy for Bloodfeuds, at this Ann Arbor Univ.'s law school 'cause Bloodfeuds sounded awesome!"

I don't for the life of me see how this is a $400 clue - Ave Maria's been gone for a few years now, and I don't think the A2 campus of Cooley has that much of a profile yet - but I'm clearly biased, what with my UMLS J.D.  I also took Bloodfeuds.  Which was awesome.

- decade-long homesickness (even after 3 lovely years in A2)
- family
- jobs (I want to work for the state, and that's simply easier here than there/AK is not bankrupt)
- skiing

Those are the highlights. I do feel bad abandoning Michigan, but this is home. Shame about the 8 am kickoffs this fall, though.

Fairbanks!

Having graduated last month, and moved up to Anchorage soon after, I am one of few people on this board legitimately psyched for our trip to Alaska (i.e., UAF) Dec. 2-3.

Put another way - and having grown up in Anchorage - this is probably the first time in my life I am psyched to go to Fairbanks.  Unquestionably the first time I am pscyhed about going to Fairbanks in December.

In conclusion, I'd say I'm psyched.

sweet.

Thank you for this; I've been wondering this as well.  Depending on the scheduling, I'd love to get back to A2 this fall, or even winter for just hockey.  But also, given that I've just moved back to Anchorage (hence the "in Alaska" part of my user name), I want to see when we're going to be in Fairbanks, so I can start planning for a trip up there.

(WT, if you're reading this, I just totally outed myself.  But I don't post anything on here I would be ashamed about others seeing.)

For perspective, the man (I'm

For perspective, the man (I'm presuming your gender, I hope accurately) appears to be finishing his first year of law school, and to be writing this either during finals, or just a week or two away.  The fact that he is saying anything other than "life is awful, killself" suggests that Austin is a pretty great place.

I'm within three weeks of graduating from the law school.  I love the university, love the law school, and made time for every home game this year.  But I skipped the spring "game."  It's essentially practice, and I've got a brief to write.

Yes, this is a great

Yes, this is a great resource.

I found this (http://ticketmuseum.com/Footballtickets/1940s/19450929.jpg), from 1945, on eBay last fall, and bought it for my grandfather for Christmas.  He was a UM pharmacy student at the time, and would have attended this game, with his brothers from FIJI.  Not to brag or anything, but apparently I won Christmas this year.

with respect:

The ratio of time spent training to time spent racing is, I don't know, 100:1 or so, or at least on that order of magnitude.  The head xc coach is working through mileage amounts, buildup, progression, and tapering; workouts; recovery; nutrition; and many, many other things.  Being in a position to run fast on the day of a race is much, much more involved than just showing up and saying "go."

I suspect you didn't necessarily assume all that, so I don't want to put words in your mouth here.  But I do want to stand up for the complexity and involved-ness of running as a 24/7/365 pursuit, and the validity of paying someone to coach same.

(I have no involvement with UM running and have no personal dog in this fight - I'm just a mid-level recreational runner (50-60 miles/week, so about half what people on the UM team likely do) who isn't very fast, but who definitely realizes how involved this can be.)

This was covered on the board

This was covered on the board earlier, but: Tickets, which were available online a few weeks ago and promptly snapped up, were for sideline seating.  Endzones are still available for walk-ins.  Open question what happens during the game when people realize that it's raining and half the sideline-area "reserved" seats aren't filled; presumably/hopefully one could just move over to the middle then.

That's the logical answer,

That's the logical answer, but I'm not sure that's the real answer.  Sometimes when I go to the website in the morning they're clearly rebroadcasting something from the night before (which I can tell because references to times and dates are off).

Also, the page was just loading for forever during Saturday night's NC hockey game, so perhaps expect similar slow/not working performance during the spring game.
