A couple of hyper-technical…

A couple of hyper-technical questions.

  • Is "Game Day" defined?  For example, does it refer to the 24 hours commencing at 12:00:01 on 11/18?  Could it end when the game clock strikes zero?  It would be great if he could celebrate with the team immediately after win #1,000.
  • Is "Venue" defined.  For example, could he be on the Maryland campus?

[EDIT] The terms are not defined.  The applicable part of the letter reads "For clarity, the Head Football Coach shall not be present (emphasis added) at the game venue on the dates of the games to which this disciplinary action applies".  I guess if they were going to push the envelope, it could be around the definition of "present".  Do calls, texts constitute pressence?

I asked Jon Falk once about the "two-toned" yellow pants.  He said it was a defect, that the back yellow was a different material that faded after the first washing.

They are only able to use abbreviations (e.g., TTUN).  It's too hard for them to type all those letters (even when they get to drop the M). They refer to the band as TBDBITL.

Indeed, no such thing as …

Indeed, no such thing as "bad" bulletin board material to the user.

I'm not at all anxious to…

I'm not at all anxious to pull the plug on Harbaugh.  However, if the expectations at Michigan are B1G championships, how confident are you that Harbaugh eventually gets the program to a level where Michigan wins one every 3-4 years?  That frequency would align with the historical norm set by Bo Schembechler (i.e., those who stay will be champions).

If 2-3 B1G championships a decade are unrealistically high, Michigan should not be compensating its head football coach at Saban/Meyer levels.

Personally, I wouldn't set…

Personally, I wouldn't set national championships as an objective.  I certainly would love Michigan to win them, don't get me wrong.  However, in terms of setting attainable objectives (i.e., those within Michigan's control), B1G championships should be the objective.  The B1G champion is likely in the playoffs anyway, where I'll be content to see what happens.

What are the realistic…

What are the realistic expectations you’ve set for the program?  What are your expectations for the 2020 season?  By what year should Michigan play in the B1G championship game?

Well, Bo Schembechler made…

“At its peak. As a dynasty”

Well, Bo Schembechler made good on that promise in year one against a team every bit as generational as this Ohio State team.

You need to check the…

You need to check the archives. Though coming close in 2013, Michigan never lost to Akron. Michigan lost to Toledo in 2008, so I’m not sure where this “same year” stuff came from.

What should the expectation…

What should the expectation be relative to conference championships? “Those who stay will be champions“ means a conference championship every 3-4 years. That way, you have champions in the building mentoring other champions. Is that a reasonable expectation for the program?

Where do conference…

Where do conference championships figure into his objectives? Are they a “must have” with some frequency or a “nice to have” whenever?

What a pathetic life you…

What a pathetic life you lead.  You feel shitty because the only thing that has meaning in your life choked big time.  So, in order to feel less shitty, you come on to a rival board to (unsuccessfully) attempt to make us feel shitty.

I sort of feel sorry for you that you care more than we do about Michigan's last win being almost 3,000 days ago.

It has been suggested over…

It has been suggested over on the wolverine.com that he couldn't clear admissions, so we didn't invest the time.

"The hope is Ohio state…

"The hope is Ohio state comes back down to us." - Respectfully, hope is not a plan.  I'd like to think that Harbaugh, et al have a plan that doesn't rely on things beyond our control.

"that ceiling isn't attainable" - I think I know what you mean, but could you be more specific? Is it upholding academic standards, strict adherence to NCAA rules prohibiting improper benefits, etc.?

Agree.  But I'm also curious…

Agree.  But I'm also curious if this is what you want going forward.  If you want something different (say B1G championships every 4-5 years), is our staff/roster constructed to achieve that?

Just curious; Nick Saban…

Just curious; Nick Saban realized that he could never get over the hump at MSU and left for LSU. I seem to recall him insinuating at the time that Michigan‘s presence made the hump insurmountable. Does Harbaugh believe that he will get over the hump relative to OSU?

Yeah, would have been tough his first three years, since they were spent in a Chinese orphanage. Rejected by his family for a cosmetic physical defect. And I disclose this with great self-loathing since I suspect a story of rejection and salvation would only trigger you again.

Aw, you've been triggered. I'm sorry our superiority did that to you. Perhaps you should return to your safe space to engage in word searches to find the "M" to cross out. My 7 year-old could also use a play date if that interests you.

Brady Hoke lit it up in…

Brady Hoke lit it up in recruiting too.  Unfortunately, we saw first hand that his recruiting success didn't "automatically guarantee wins".  Until the results of the Game are known, I agree that he is a big question mark.

Yeah, I suppose you're right…

Yeah, I suppose you're right.  The results would be the same because your team cheats and we don't.  When you can cheat 32 points better than Clemson, you'll really have something to celebrate.

Agree.  The guy is stupid…

Agree.  The guy is stupid enough to think he needs to do something to help Urban.

Perles wanted the AD job but…

Perles wanted the AD job but DiBiaggio passed him over.  Perles then initiated a power play by threatening to leave and the BoT offered him the job.  DiBiaggio left shortly thereafter to become president at Tufts.

Remember John DiBiaggio,…

Remember John DiBiaggio, former MSU President?  He did just that when the board overruled him on Perles being athletic director.

I just go by what Ohio State…

I just go by what Ohio State said yesterday in its statement:

"Following deliberations with the board, and appropriate time for consideration, President Michael V. Drake will announce his decision."

Darth Vader Bruce

I was a manager for the 1980 team.  A group of us went up to the press box before the Purdue game that year, which was one week before the OSU game.  He said something to the effect that he needed a nickname for him because he had one for Woody ("Dr. Stangehayes"). He chose Darth Vader because he thought EB's scowl gave him that look.

He has lost control of his legacy

At least outside of EL.

He has to answer this question; In the face of publicly available information, why did he allow (actully, desire) scumbags like Walton, Payne and Appling stay in the program? The world outside EL now sees him as we do; a win-at-all-costs type that places the welfare of his program above that of abused women.

They have an institutionalized inferiority complex

It created an inability to distinguish right from wrong.  They are Cain to our Abel. And yes, I realize Cain was the big brother in that story. Still, it is an appropriate analogy for a sibling rivaly that destroyed the jealous brother.

Who hires the next MSU president?

Does the board of trustees make the decision?  If so, do you think George Perles and Joel Ferguson are looking to bring in someone to change the culture and clean house?

Bo Schembechler had 2 O-line coaches

Jerry Hanlon coached tackles and tight ends while Paul Schudel coached guards and centers.  I don't think having two is the issue. Not having two good ones is the problem. Hanlon also called the plays.

Glad Buckeye fans still meet our expectations

"In the Second Have, was like watching the Indiana Game plan with better personnel."

^^ This ^^

Permitting bias to be introduced into an athletic constest is not right. Michigan has to be a change agent through use of the "bully pullpit".

You can bet when the results don't meet guidance

it will be attributable to something beyond his control.

What was the Toys R Us board thinking?

I don't think it's flawed. I don't think it's flawed. Compare Domino's performance to the S&P as a whole over that period. Also compare Domino's performance to its competitors over that period. Would an investor have done better to just put his money in an index fund or by the stock of Domino's competitors?
The process

"the process is important and I'm sure the lawyers are working on it as we speak."

I love it.  Dave Brandon will go through a process.
