Considering this trend is across the board and not just limited to Michigan, I can't agree more with this statement. I'm a 2010/2011 grad who sat thru the entire 2008 Northwestern game, but I know I'm in the minority.
For many if not most students, the tailgate is the event. And the game, if you make it, is often simply coming down either in blazing heat or wind and rain on metal bleachers, often while sitting in the 80th row. And while not showing up makes no sense to me, I respect that 40,000 other students may not share my opinion, and have a hard time believing that 20,000 are as passionate as I am.
What is the solution if you really want to increase overall attendance? We have enough demand for tickets (as long as the opponent is not Akron). A basketball-style system of claim periods in a capped student section might make things better. The students who really want to go will claim, while those who don't may not for fear of losing their ability to claim for the rest of the season. Will the students hate it? Yes. But I have a hard time believing that whatever system is created they will be happy.

But no one here has brought up the fact that freshman enrollment is dropping. In 2011, 250 fewer freshman enrolled then the peak in 2010. Another 100 fewer than 2011 than 2012, and the 2013 class is not expected to be bigger than that of 2012. That's about 1,000 fewer students overall. And while this factor should not be considered the only one, the fact that M doesn't plan to admit 6500 freshmen per year going forward can't be ignored.

The refs called way too much and slowed the second half down. But its great to see that this team doesn't have to fire on all cylinders to get a good win. As long as a couple of people step up each night this team is going to dominate offensively.
McGary continues to impress. I can't wait to see him continue to develop over the next few years.

How ohio to have this kind of stipulation though. Your purchase of tickets, parking, and concessions still flows through to the school and increases their bottom line. |2 years 11 weeks ago||The reason we added more||
The reason we added more student seats was because we had more applications than available seats in the student section. So students were being placed in other areas of the stadium with available seats. Often, freshmen who did not go to M knowing anyone were being placed alone in odd corners of the stadium, deprived of their student section experience. My sophomore year was spent sneaking my freshman girlfriend into the student sections since her seat was alone in section 38.
I'd rather have empty seats at the top of the student section than to go back to that.

|2 years 11 weeks ago||Notre Dame is a much smaller||
Notre Dame is a much smaller school where nearly all students live in Dorms, and greek life is non-existant. The campus culture is so different that it is not comparable.
Besides, ND offers a capped number of student tickets not only to ND students, but also to those at St. Mary's and Holy Cross. So there's that to consider.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Am I happy that the students||
Am I happy that the students don't always fill in before kickoff? No. But this is not a unique Michigan problem. Plenty of other schools have this issue: see Florida today.
But taking away tickets is not the answer. At the end of the day, the school is run for the students, and as long as there is sufficient space for student tickets, they should be available to every student regardless of attendance records.
Should we give the best seats to people who show up? Of course. The current system of assigned seating based on credit hours makes little sense.
And finally, the students did fill in today. When the team needed the stadium loud, it was.

Do I hate denard/want him pulled? No. He's still our best playmaker and has earned his role as the leader of his team, and has bailed us out many times before. But I am ready for Denard to graduate and for Shane Morris to come in and take over the position.

Honestly, I'd go to the players on this one. If they want Michigan to claim it, it should be claimed.
However, the NCF title that year was shared between Michigan, ohio, and ND. Recognizing this title also establishes the precedent that ohio should recognize theirs.

Honestly I don't disagree: my primary purpose is to avoid thread titles like "Usain bolt breaks 100m record by 5 seconds".
But at the same point, I don't think its too much to ask that anyone who creates an olympic thread demarcates it as a spoiler thread. If a thread is simply titled "olympic swimming", those of us who are waiting on tape delay shouldn't have to worry whether or not we're talking about events already televised or those to come.
Again, this is a request, not a demand. I don't expect or demand that anyone follow through with what I am asking. I'm simply asking for a nice gesture from the MGoCommunity.

But it doesn't have to be if people just put some sort of spoiler warning in the title.
I'm going to stay off cnn, espn, etc. because I'd like to avoid that info. But when I go to a Michigan site for Michigan news, I'm hoping to be able to read without having to worry that other sports stories are not ruined for me.
Like Tater said above, a fair warning allows those who want to discuss to do so and those who want to avoid to do so. No one is hurt.

On November 8, 2011, the IAEA released a report inwhich they professed the belief that Iran is developing not only weapons-grade uranium, but the other pieces necessary to build a bomb.
What would it take to convince you that Iran is building a bomb?
A declaration from their government? That won't happen until they are done and ready to brag about it.
Pictures from the press? Not going to happen in a tightly controlled country where the local media is on board with the program.
A leak? Doubtful.
Foreign intelligence? Well we have that from a variety of sources, and it hasn't convinced you.
Can we prove that Iran is building a bomb? Not really without one of the first three above. But the evidence available leans towards Iran building one, and I'd rather be safe in doing what we can to prevent them from completing their project.

Also, it doesn't punish the other schools Penn State has scheduled with. College football schedules are created years in advance, and a last minute opening for 12 schools would create chaos.

Is this just for the first bounce or does it apply until the ball is touched by the receiving team?
EDIT: Now that I think about it, how much will this actually change? Technically a fair catch can be called when the ball is popped directly into the air on an onside kick, yet there is no time to do so. Are teams really going to have enough time to even call for a fair catch?

This doesn't suprise me. I reading that MSC and the other admins were keeping an eye on mgoblog (especially the flight tracker) when we were going through coaching changes. They are certainly aware of its existence and power.
Simply put, this is the best resource for Michigan sports out there. Bravo to all those involved.

First of all, I would not call this topic OT. This is definitely legit board material.
As for those applying this year, my best advice is to apply early. It's different now than it was when admission was straight rolling, but hitting the early action deadline is the best thing you can do to give yourself a boost.
As for your actual applicaiton, the only thing you can really change at this point is your essays. So put your effort in here: have someone review them and turn in really polished, direct essays.
Best of luck to everyone applying.

Concurrently, meaning that his sentences could be served all together. So if the longest prison term he is granted is 10 years, and all of his sentences are served concurrently, then he would walk out after 10 years.
I have no expectation that this will happen in the least, but I do raise it as a possibility.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Unsure||
However, it is important to note that Sandusky could serve as little as 60 years. And his sentences could be served concurrently.
Not that this is going to happen. He will be locked up forever, and the world is a safer place for it.

Ok, so you think that the decision and all of the fallout will be forgotten when we look back on Lebron in 20 years?
I disagree. It was more memorable than anything he did on the court and will be remembered for a long time.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Again, a very fair||
Again, a very fair point.
When Lebron was in Cleveland, he ran the front office. Once Dan Gilbert became owner, he decided that the best way to keep Lebron happy in Cleveland was to give him whatever he wanted, when he wanted it. He spoiled him, and learned his lesson.
As for the names you presented, Pippen, McHale, and Worthy were all high draft picks acquire soon after Jordan, Magic, and Bird came on board. Kareem had been with the Lakers already. Only Parish was a legit trade, adn that was soon after Bird joined the league. The cavs had terrible luck drafting up until they took Kyrie, and got screwed over by Carlos Boozer after he renegged on a handshake deal and jumped to Utah.
It could have been done if he wanted it that way.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||First, thank you for making a||
First, thank you for making a legit counter-argument. You make good points here.
Lebron is an unbelievable basketball talent, there is no denying that. And when you have as much talent as that, the ultimate goal of your profession is not to win a title, or multiple titles: it is to build a legacy that lasts long beyond your playing days. And a part of building that legacy mean doing things the right way: showing patience, loyalty, and respect for the game and the fanbase.
I'm of the opinion that Lebron would have won titles regardless of where he played. If he had stayed, gone to New York, or gone to Chicago, he would have attracted more talent around him to build towards a title. Or he could have tried to convince others to come to Cleveland and play, instead of deciding far in advance that he was giving up on the cavaliers.
As for money and better city, I can't argue with you on those.
I wanted to see Lebron win a title for Cleveland because I wanted to see the the next NBA legend, who built a team around him from nothing and in the end achieved the glory. I'm disappointed I didn't get to see this.

When the going gets tough, Ill just pull together other top talents and push responsibility off to them.
There's no need to hate on those who think Lebron took a shortcut and should have taken an alternate path. Next time, lets have a real argument instead you continuously deflecting with "haters gonna hate".

The guy planned this thing over a year out, quit in the playoffs for the Cavs, and took the easy way to a ring.

Lebron said that part of the reason he left Cleveland is that he didn't want to be " the guy". He didn't want to carry the load and have the largest share of the responsibility for his team's performance.
Explain to me how he is not a frontrunner and didn't take the easy way out?
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Much deserved?||
The guy is a frontrunner. He hasn't earned anything. He took a shortcut and landed on a ring (assuming the Heat close this out).
