I was at a high school district playoff game he was pitching his senior year. Brighton was playing the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in football a few months earlier (Walled Lk Western I think). Henson struck out the first 20 batters, the last dude bunted and he threw him out at first for the perfect game. It was ridiculous.

Really an interesting (and new to me) way to think about an individual's contributions.
Might be helpful to label the quadrants (e.g., top right = creates for teammates and himself; bottom left = doesn't assist but needs assists).
Also, I'm curious how you arrived at the scale? Would it be possible to make the middle (assist rate of 20, percent of FGs assisted) the national median? Maybe you already did that or something similar...

There's a start-up called Wisely in Ann Arbor that is a super-interesting iphone/android app. The app uses payment data (credit/debit cards) to provide useful info about businesses to consumers. For example, the app tells you how popular the place is (how many transactions), how loyal the customers are (how many repeat transactions), how much most people spend, etc.
It's sorta like Yelp except a better source of truth because it's data driven with actual payment info, so not weighed down by random anecdotes or just made-up reviews.

My freshman year (2002-03), team started 0-6 before a 13 game win streak including the best comeback I've ever seen in a game against the Badgers. Maize Rage was pretty sparse then but proud to say I was in it!

Also a non-bad RPI effect (RPI 134 and Kenpom 147). These are the types of teams I wish we'd schedule non-conference - bad enough to beat by 22 but good enough to have a decent W/L and challenge for a conference title (projected 13-5 in Patriot League, 1 game back from 1st)

One of the major differences between last year and this year is that last year we were close to our ceiling right outta the gate. This year with a freshman PG and former role players stepping into key roles (or trying to?) there should be a lot more improvement over the course of the year. I think. and hope.

haven't been so don't really have an answer for you... but I'm going to London in September and am hoping to go to a Premier League game.
Any recommendations on which London area team would be the best to see? Looks like Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, and Crystal Palace are home that weekend. I'm a casual soccer fan so I don't have a dog in the fight, mostly interested in experiencing a cool atmosphere...

I first think of Bain & Co, he works at Bain Capital. Either way, darn impressive.

In the post? I'm surprised. I think Channing needs a gerund related nickname.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Glyph - App that tells you what's best for you based on habits||
There's a Detroit-based (soon to be Ann Arbor-based) startup that built an app and website that peruses your spending history and tells you what card would be best for you.
Beyond that, every time you're about to make a payment, it will tell you which of your pre-entered credit cards will maximize your rewards.
Disclosure... a good friend is one of the co-founders. But seriously, I highly recommend, and so have Fortune, Tech Crunch, etc.

|2 years 7 weeks ago||Any refs out there? - when a shot goes up...||
Re: the Ravenel goaltend... when a shot goes up, what do the refs look at? I think the priority is to watch what's going on under the basket rather than actually watching the ball and the hoop.
That being said, there are 3 of them in college, is one of them (maybe the one in the backcourt?) supposed to watch the hoop while the other two focus on contact between players?
|2 years 8 weeks ago||Opponent's Center?||
This is really cool, great work.
I wonder if Morgan is more frequently going up against an opponent's top center while McGary might be playing against a backup more often. Could be a part of the difference - i.e., Morgan is 'less better' than the top center and McGary is 'more better' than the backups?

I know little about football Xs and Os and learn a ton from this blog/comments. I know more about hoops and love the opportunity to chime in a little here!
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Setting up the screen||
Part of the reason #15 (guarding Burke) fights over the screen well is that Burks didn't do enough to set it up. In a perfect world, Burke & McGary should rub shoulders when Burke passes the screen, not allowing any room for the defender to fight through. It's basically impossible to get this to happen, but there are a few feet between Burke & McGary when Burke goes around the screen. If Burke takes another dribble toward the hoop before he dribbles left around the screen, #15 will have a harder time fighting over McGary.
Setting up the screen falls more to Burke than the screener because the screener can't be moving as long (or else it's a foul). So the dribbler needs to be work toward the hoop (in this case) before taking a sharp angle past the shoulder of the screener to optimize the chances for the dribbler to get a shot off.
That being said, Burke getting a shot off is only one option - on this play, Burke seems to be thinking #1 look for Stauskas's cut and #2 wait for the re-screen.
Just my two cents, I love how the offense has many layers and Burke et al work through them and find great shots.
