Maybe Ford isn't such a great guy to cite in this instance:

What I recall was that there was a 50/50 split between Darko and Carmelo as to who should be #2. Even so, I agree that you can't bash Dumars based on what pundits were saying.
GMs should not rely on pundits, though. I don't remember anyone saying Darko was overrated, but I do remember people noting what a big unknown he was. Simmons' prognostications in the article posted above were thankfully incorrect, but his point holds true that when you have a chance for a very good or better player who is a known quantity, you go with that over the Great Unknown (Jordan, Durant, Melo, etc.).

Thanks for all your great work covering this season. I've had a few personal and professional challenges this past year, and watching and reading about this team really helped some. It probably shouldn't because it's just a game and all that, but it did.
And somebody please start making "WWJMOD" wristbands, because I would totally buy like a dozen of those.

Great season, and my favorite Michigan basketball team ever. Even if we won it all, I would have been sad when it ended.

You're 15 and haven't been this bummed about a game in 45 years?

Here are three reasons I've seen here:
1. Wisconsin basketball is boring as hell. The Badgers under Ryan really play a slow game on both ends of the court. That isn't quite so true this year, but scoring 70 on these guys still seems like a huge deal.
2. Dirty play. The specific example I've heard (and seen) involves a Badger defender moving under his guy when he's in the middle of a jump shot (there's probably a term for this, but I don't know or can't recall what it is). I've seen Wisconsin players do this a lot. It's uncool and unsafe. Plus the Badgers will keep doing any number of things repeatedly until refs get worn down and stop making calls.
3. Ryan is Mr. Crankypants. Whatever. He gets a lot out of his players and seems to run a clean program. Plus he's not a douche like Crean. In fairness to everyone here, this reason is usually stated tongue-in-cheek.

That's a good point, and makes me want to clarify my last post: in the U.S., sometimes when people use the word "class," they don't necessarily mean it in the Marxist/Marxian way.
That may be what the original poster meant, but even then, it doesn't mean the O.P. thinks that way all the time. When labor law gets involved, bringing up class can be pretty hard to avoid.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I think you might be jumping||
I think you might be jumping to conclusions, here, although class-as-economic-background often does come up when talking about unions.
I think it's fair to point out the irony that people who criticize student-athletes for fighting for certain conditions would very likely fight for those conditions themselves.

+1 that sentiment. In the past it seemed to me like he would let his doubts get to him. it was frustrating, but I totally understood it. So Morgan overcoming his doubts and turning them into challenges isn't only fun to watch, it's inspiring.
So this weak, I'm going to negotiate the best fucking office lease the world has ever seen. And then I'm going to ask for a raise.

I'm fine with the man crush, except that I don't recall the same love ever given to Jordan Morgan, a great student-athlete and character guy who gets the most out of his talent.
Well, except for here. And that's because you all are brilliant.

Totally agree. This reminds of a long time ago, when I once heard an announcer say of Paul Molitor "he's the kind of guy you want your daughter to bring home." I don't recall if that was after he stopped using cocaine, but I'm pretty sure the announcer didn't feel that way about Mookie Wilson.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Sorry, my comment was too||
Sorry, my comment was too broad, but I think sports media avoids subverting popular narratives, for various reasons (ratings, avoid getting snubbed by teams, etc.). PracticeGate wasn't on the eve of a Michigan BCS bowl game, but during one of the shittiest times in Michigan football history. And Providence isn't Duke or Louisville.
I agree that the media likes to stir shit up, but with the biggest programs, it usually seems to happen long after the most damaging times.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||Cynical Prediction||
I don't know how serious the MSU accusations are, but if they are, the media will pay it full attention after the NCAA Tournament is over. Generally the media in this country won't want to mess with everyone's sports buzz.
