I blurted out "idiot!" at the UTL II game when Gardner got the happy feet and threw that ridiculous interception. That was definitely directed at Gardner.
I felt like a real a**hole after that one, just like the time I heckled Daryl Strawberry.

I apologize if someone already made this point, but with respect to the relative inexperience of the offensive line, here's something from Wikipedia about the 1997 offensive line:
The offensive line was another uncertainty for the 1997 team. Three linemen from the 1996 team had been selected in the 1997 NFL Draft: center Rod Payne (3rd round, 76th overall), offensive guard Damon Denson (4th round, 97th overall) and defensive tackleWilliam Carr (7th round, 217the overall). As a result, Michigan began the season with only one offensive lineman, offensive tackle Jon Jansen, who had started a game. Jansen, a junior, had 25 consecutive starts entering the season. The offensive line was further weakened when left tackle, Jeff Backus, suffered a ruptured appendix. In spring practice, offensive line coach Terry Malone made a plea for help during a staff meeting. was searching for talent to fill in on the line. To fill the holes on the offensive line, two defensive linemen, Steve Hutchinson and Chris Ziemann were moved to the offensive line.
That team rushed for 4.0 yards a carry against some tough teams (seven of them ranked).
So how was that team able to accomplish that? In other words, how did the '97 team overcome an inexperienced offensive line?

My sales rep gets me cable/internet/telephone in Oak Park, IL for just over $100, and that includes cable for three TVs. There may be better temporary deals, but I have had this deal now for almost two years.

Norfleet is frustrating, but it seemed like every time Norfleet had a great return, it would get called back for a holding penalty. Is there any way to determine if that is true?

You are right! That's like wet burritos and party stores, things I thought existed everywhere else until I moved out of Michigan.
One thing, though: there actually was a Meijer's Grocery Store or two when I was a kid in Grand Rapids. But the possessive was dropped for the Thrifty Acres.

Really appreciate it, but I am fine. I'm working again, our living situation is fine, and I'm getting my confidence back. And I have a great, supportive wife, three awesome kids, and some of the best friends anyone could have.
My point wasn't about how bad things were, but that they can and will get better, and that this game, and everyone who was there - the players, the fans, the whole team - reminded me of that.

The students who attended school during the RichRod Era were seniors in 2011, and they had never experienced great Michigan Football as students. Not to knock Rodriguez, but the acrimony was as bad as the losing, if not worse.
Going to the game as a parent, the students seemed so young to me, and when that game was over, I saw so many with this look on their faces I had seen on my children, of just pure joy, mixed with total surprise, like the world just opened up into something greater, and something that hadn't even seemed possible. Part of me wanted to say to them "THAT'S what I'm talking about," because I had felt that before - in 1997 and 2003 and many, many other times. But this was their time to run around in the streets, hug total strangers and share all that happiness. And I got to feel, or at least believe that I felt, a part of what they were feeling, like I was young again. To this day, "Dynamite" still makes me feel better, and typically I can't stand music like that.
During the RichRod Era, I lost my job, I lost my house, and I lost my belief in myself. That game reminded me that it was OK to not be cynical or jaded, but to feel hope and joy and camaraderie, and to look forward, even when the past has kicked your ass a little. Hey, we're all still here, and you guys are awesome!

It was my first year in law school, and I remember celebrating at Bollinger's house . . . until that jackass fell out of the tree. Thankfully, he was drunk enough that every branch he hit on the way down broke his fall without killing him.
Man, that was so long ago. I want that day back; maybe without that dude falling, though.

I can not stop giggling over Christine Plonsky's concern about college athletics' pipe being sucked off so much that the system's knees buckle. I mean, shouldn't everyone be for the kind of pipe suck-off that leads to a systemic knee buckling?

Given that Martin has reportedly discussed the final plot with others, I'm wondering if he is thinking of passing the writing torch to someone else.
From Martin's perspective, that might make sense. It would allow him to relax and enjoy the rest of his life, and it would allow him to collect a portion of royalties on work he's not writing.

As a coach with a ridiculous amount of power in his community, Joe Pa should have been held to a higher standard than the average guy. He couldn't even pass the average guy test, and he used school facilities to enable a pedophile.

|23 weeks 4 days ago||Not everyone loved Darko||
What I recall was that there was a 50/50 split between Darko and Carmelo as to who should be #2. Even so, I agree that you can't bash Dumars based on what pundits were saying.
GMs should not rely on pundits, though. I don't remember anyone saying Darko was overrated, but I do remember people noting what a big unknown he was. Simmons' prognostications in the article posted above were thankfully incorrect, but his point holds true that when you have a chance for a very good or better player who is a known quantity, you go with that over the Great Unknown (Jordan, Durant, Melo, etc.).

Thanks for all your great work covering this season. I've had a few personal and professional challenges this past year, and watching and reading about this team really helped some. It probably shouldn't because it's just a game and all that, but it did.
And somebody please start making "WWJMOD" wristbands, because I would totally buy like a dozen of those.

|25 weeks 1 day ago||Here are three reasons I've||
Here are three reasons I've seen here:
1. Wisconsin basketball is boring as hell. The Badgers under Ryan really play a slow game on both ends of the court. That isn't quite so true this year, but scoring 70 on these guys still seems like a huge deal.
2. Dirty play. The specific example I've heard (and seen) involves a Badger defender moving under his guy when he's in the middle of a jump shot (there's probably a term for this, but I don't know or can't recall what it is). I've seen Wisconsin players do this a lot. It's uncool and unsafe. Plus the Badgers will keep doing any number of things repeatedly until refs get worn down and stop making calls.
3. Ryan is Mr. Crankypants. Whatever. He gets a lot out of his players and seems to run a clean program. Plus he's not a douche like Crean. In fairness to everyone here, this reason is usually stated tongue-in-cheek.
