The media loves to report that there was strong leadership when a team has a winning season and a lack of leadership when a team has a less than satisfactory season. I don't really buy it either way; it's an easy article to write.
Ferns is listed at 115 if you click next on the bottom of the page. Not sure if this is the most recent update, as you said the initial list was he was 75-80.
The Oregon offense didn't really start to take off both those years until the 4th/5th game. I don't think the results would have been the same later in the season. Purdue did play well in those games, I will give them that.
2011 they brought in Tra Carson to play as big back....who then proceeded to transfer back to Texas after being homesick.
2010 they brought in Dontae Williams to be a big back...who also then transfered back to Texas after being homesick.
While neither of these players was Blount size, very few RB's are. I think because LMJ's and Barners great success in Oregon's offense, people tend to think that Oregon only recruits these types of players, but in reality, they've recruited all types of RB's.
They only signed 18 or whatever last year, so they can have a number of Early Enrollees this year that count to last year's scholarship count.

"Scholarships are based on the academic calendar, not the football calendar. Because USC only signed 18 players last year, 14 of whom enrolled last fall, it can count its nine early enrollees in the current class toward the 2010-11 school year. Should the original ruling stand, the 15-player limit goes into effect in 2011-12 and will include all players that enroll this fall (which may include some recruited walk-ons). It still can't go over the NCAA-imposed 75-scholarship limit for its overall roster."
I don't know about the original focus of the investigation by NCAA. But I know the orginal focus of the investigation by Michael Rosenberg was to see if he could get Rich Rod fired.
People love doing stupid things. For example: Chicago fans currently chanting Defense when they have already given up 90 pts by the 3rd quarter to the Knicks. Probably should have started chanting a little sooner.
It was recently seen in a positive light with the reintroduction to word in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But yes, the Rock used it well back in the day.

Most people picked Stanford to be in the middle/lower part of the Pac10, based on a very poor secondary and defense overall. The mediocrity of the defense has surprised people, given the expectation of Stanford having a poor defense.
I would move Oregon ahead of Auburn. Honestly, Auburn has beat some decent teams, but hasn't really shut anyone down, or beat by a large margin. I think they are going to be exposed soon against Alabama.
Oregon beat Stanford, a pretty darn good team that people are not talking about right now.
They also went to Arizona State and won, a team that nearly knocked off Wisconsin.
Additionally, they just finished off UCLA, a team that went into Austin and won, which is less impressive now.
Any idea why he is taking his official that weekend opposed to when we have a game? Definitely a unique recruiting experience compared to other schools.
I don't think the result of the State game would have changed a whole lot. I think that the "tipping point" of us pulling out a win was a lot further than just changing Obi for Demens. Too many other things went wrong that were uncorrelated to starting Obi.
Feel bad for the guy. Putting himself in a position to win, but just not taking advantage of the opportunities he is giving himself. Seems like it can be a streaky sport. Here's to the U.S. catching on fire and winning out.
I was reading David Merritt's story today and I saw that he received an academic scholarship to attend UofM. When he joined the basketball team as a walk-on, did that affect the scholarship count?

The good news is the SEC East is 0-3 in bowl games now. Three of their wins were against the SEC East and four were against non-aq opponents.
