"I had never coached a day as a head coach until I came here," he said. He added that until he actually coached at a major program with the resources of Ohio State, "I don't think anyone knows for sure."
Ohio State's other finalist was Minnesota's Glen Mason, a former Ohio State player and a member of the same Buckeyes coaching staff as Tressel for two years. Mason interviewed earlier Wednesday. Before flying back to Minnesota, he told reporters that his visit went well.
Geiger told Jeff Logan, a member of the advisory committee, that Mason was "devastated" when told that Tressel would be the new coach.
Tressel was expected to sign a multiyear contract paying him in excess of $1 million a year. His Youngstown State contract, which was to run out in June, gave him a base salary of $88,500 and a $20,000 annual stipend to also serve as athletics director. For winning a national championship, Tressel received an extra $5,000.
Others who either interviewed or spoke with Ohio State officials about the job included Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden, Oregon coach Mike Bellotti, current Buckeyes assistant head coach Fred Pagac, former Ohio State and NFL linebacker Chris Spielman and Stanford head coach Tyrone Willingham
Rich Rod tells a future employer that a player is lazy. Any boss would do this in a business setting if he thought employee A was a piece of crap. RR told it like it was - in his opinion. Why should he stick up for a kid who didn't do all he could for RR's program. Maybe the kid should have worked harder and been a better leader. Then he might have gotten a better review. I'm sure there are tons of cases of players getting badmouthed about their attitudes to NFL scouts. Carr shouldn't have said anything - it's no longer his place for that B.S. Keep your 2 cents to yourself.
Good luck to Morgan in the future. Let's hope he doesn't run into MIke Williams or any other former USC receiver ever again. He might get 3rd degree burns.
and starting a bar fight... with the first person that brings this damn game up.
Valenti and Foster are ripping Beilein on 97.1 They are total douchebags. Valenti should coach the Lions, Wolverines, Spartans, and Red Wings - he's got all the fucking answers.
Asshat.
All I have to say is that the NCAA has about as much credibility as the bullshit United Nations.
Iran (USC) "Piss off NCAA we will give SUVs to whomever we want. And then our RB will bang one of the Kardashian sisters." (after a terrible singer with an even worse show has rammed her).
North Korea (TENN)- "eat our poop NCAA we don't care if you don't like us sending hookers to watch players games." (I'm just suspecting that TENN has hookers working for them.)
France (MICH) - "we will bend over and take our punishments for having players stretch more than the alloted time, so that our huge v*&^%@ can stretch out in case the Germans show up and screw us again."
NCAA = WORTHLESS, CLUELESS, SPINELESS
Just nailed a free throw to ice the win for the Warriors over the Atlanta Hawks. Is it ironic that Jamal Crawford got a technical with 30 seconds left and the game tied at 104. Looks like Jamal is still making bad decisions.
I hate the NBA.
1. He's the leading scorer in the Big 10. Only one player (because of injury) can make a case for Big 10 Player of the year.
2. He single handedly takes over games on the offense end without a supporting cast of offensive threats (outside of Sims - who to be honest was not playing well early in the season)
3. Last year, Jay Bilas said on national television that he thought Harris had the fastest first step off the dribble in the nation.
4. We all thought he might take off last year!!!
5. Thad Matta called both guys (Harris and Sims) "bona fide pros" - this coming from a guy who has coached a number of players who left early for the NBA.
What more do you guys want. I agree - he has some faults, but if Jamal Crawford can make it in the NBA (and play lights out) Manny will be fine. With all that said, I wish he would stay in school, but I'm a realist, too.
Learn Greek or Italian??? Seriously?
First!
I know I needed this - we all did. The tide is turning (eeeeeee!).
1. Vogrich totally read my last post - Way to come in and give a lift, kid.
2. Defense was soooooo much better today - I feel like we still have a ways to go, but I'll take the effort - solid.
3. Manny and D. Sims looked confident and in attack mode today. Deshawn staying inside is much more effective than shooting 3's and long jumpers.
Let's get it rolling now!
1-0 in 2010!
I just thought he might consider transfering now that he's the reason a head coach was dismissed... so I put it on the thread. Just being a wise ass. Sorry.
I wonder how this kid is holding up? His teammates have got to want to kick this kid's shit in. Can you say transfer? No! Not to Michigan you little brat.
How might this news affect UF's recruits? Wilson, etc. Might be good news for the Wolverines.
MCAAHNY
merry christmas and a happy new year!
My new internet slang addition.

I wish I could "mess around" with the NFL. How bout getting some studs to step up immediately and shore up that porous secondary.
I don't think I've ever been more depressed with my sports teams than I am this year. Please Santa bring me something awesome this year.
but I would love to wrestle the Penn State volleyball team naked and see who wins. I'm sure it would be me - but only because I like it rough and tumble. 100 straight wins!!! Hot!
Mark Ingram is the most boring Heisman winner ever! How lame was that. If you disagree... Gino Toretta is number 2.

I don't know what is more frustrating - two shitty football seasons in a row or the fact that the basketball team looks like it loses only two starting walkons (and Grady) and is playing shittier than imaginable. I should be drunk watching this.
what was that site that I watched the lowly lions play last time they were blacked out? Adthe.net?????
I can't seem to find the same site as before. Any advice. I'm no good with technology.
via wiki. Which I am told is very reputable...
Year one - suck! Year two, ahhh satisfaction! Let's all hope!!!!

99 2006-11-16 Heinz Field West Virginia 45 Pittsburgh 24 PITT 59-37-3
2007 was the loss to Pitt and the missed opportunity at a BCS National Champ...
I'll just take a win on Sat.
I have been a Michigan fan since I was born (St. Joes hospital), and I have been to many a great Michigan games with my father (he was at AC's Indiana game) the UM Virgina game with Hayes (which we left early - I know, we were idiots) the Colorado game which I cried as a sixth grader, the PSU game with Manningham catching the slant to win, and even Woodson's epic against the Buckeyes in 97. This was, however, one of the most satisfying wins I have ever been a part of! What an afternoon. A man, who I hold in the highest regard, was beaming with pleasure the entire day today for the first time since Lloyd Carr's memorable season - my dad! It was great bonding with my old man today in the glory that belonged to OUR WOLVERINES!
Keep it rolling fellas!
JB
neither of these two offenses are good, but on a team if someone steals from another teammate - that's inexcusable. I am not saying that drunk driving is better, but you can't trust someone you're going to war with if he's stolen from you or another friend. That's not acceptable.
Now I don't know if stealing had anything to do with the dismissal, but if it did, I can see how RR said "See Ya!"
JB
Just watched it on a myspace page - because the MGoblue website wouldn't let me view it. Thoroughly impressed with how much better our offense looks this year. Even more impressed with T. Forcier. Whatever "it" is moxie, poise, etc. Tate's got it. Now I know he's 18-19 yr. old, but after watching the other two QB's last year, I'll take it. Also, Minor and Brown look good, but Vincent Smith might make us forget all about Sam McGuffie - and don't forget a second year, Mike Shaw. Remember all those guys who said that Roundtree got snake oiled by Rodriguez and that he'd end up a career sideline guy. Looks like the kid's got some real game. Kinda reminded me of Manningham when he was a freshman. Overall, I still think we're a hell of a long way from where we want to be, but I see the progress from year one to year two and can't wait until 2010 or 2011 for the finished product.
Now let's hope the defense was having an off day - because if our offense is manhandling our defense - well that's just scary.
Good start though - looking forward to the fall!
JB
As long as we start winning big fricken games again!!!!
You could play puff the magic dragon for all I care... JUST BEAT OHIO STATE! And quit fumbling punts and kickoffs.
JB
have a two handed two footed dunk in the history of the NCAA Tourney. Nice shit Stu!
I didn't think you were gonna make it, but you did.
Do you think Oliver Purnell feels the same way we all felt for like 11 years? Poor guy.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Harris is a beast!
JB
Ed Hightower fricken sucks! I've said that for years. He's a total assbag!
Worst officials ever in the Big 10
1. Ted Valentine - total piece of shit!
2. Jim Burr - just an incompetent old man
3. Hightower - The game is more about him than the kids - he SUCKS.
4. "the rat" - can remember his name but he was terrible, too.
5. Phil Bova - just because he always reminded me of these other dipshits.
Bilas, after Michigan beat Duke, said to my friend who's an usher that, "Manny Harris was the best guy in the country with his first step to the hole." Now he pretty much calls him a problem. Hey Bilas your a damn assbag! Go play one on one with your buddy Amaker, nutcase!
My buddy, a coach at the convention, said that this morning. He said that's the buzz circling about.
I did, however, ask him if he knew who this Heater guy from Florida was and he didn't know anything about it. So it's probably still just rumors.
I need a life
I know you probably won't read this until tomorrow, but this weekend is the AFCA Coaches' Convention and RR is supposedly doing some interviews. Could you do a write up on the possible candidates (since the last time it was addressed). That is have you heard anything new?
I love all the work you do with the recruiting write-ups, but I am worried that without a solid, proven, big-time d-coordinator that we are going to fight an uphill battle against teams who are able to tell recruits, "Hey we've got Will Muschamp, or NFL guru, Monte Kiffin." Now I'm not saying I want an NFL guy, but a proven guy would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm worried Jay Hopson might not be the strongest choice - I also have no credibility when I say this as I don't really know anything about Coach Hopson.
Thanks,
JB
Damn I love watching college basketball on Sundays again. Great game by the fellas in Maize today. I am reaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyy enjoying a fun to watch UM hoops squad.
That was a huge win!
WTF? He's decommited and Rivals has his interest in M as "LOW". Now what about the Inside Linebackers???
Beilein has vertigo? What a shitty start to the weekend.
"Tim Tebow is a god"
- Lee the douchebag
Doesn't anyone remember Tebow getting ass raped by the boys in Blue last year. I'm so sick and tired of this shit.
Come on Oscar kick that little shit's ass.

Not sure if anybody already posted this, but it gives me hope for the future...
I found it interesting the other coaches that OSU interviewed.
