That was my immediate…

That was my immediate reaction to all of this. However, I have been hearing there are some other issues going on behind the scenes that have not been shared. Just out of respect for the situation, I only wanted to share information that has been reported on by legitimate media members.

Great post!

I just want to…

Great post!

I just want to make it a point as a PA resident and a current HS football coach in PA that Archbishop Wood was a powerhouse up until the 2019 season. They were the favorites to win the 5A championship at the beginning of each season for well over a decade.

Kyle Pitts is the big name that attended Archbishop Wood during that stretch.

I completely agree with you…

Great point. I was just thinking big picture.

Huge news. They had another…

Huge news. Many had him as the best ILB in the country this season. Bama had another LB go down for the season just a few weeks ago.

I’d much rather face Alabama than Clemson in a playoff game at this point.

Oh, I’m glad he left as well…

Oh, I’m glad he left as well. PSU coaches and fans were enamored with him the past few years as a backup QB and a gadget player. Phil Steele even said on one podcast that the coaches viewed Trace as option 1A and Stevens as 1B at quarterback for the past two years. That’s what made Stevens transferring out so mystifying. Trace graduates and is ready to pass the torch to Stevens, but Stevens goes “Nah. I’d rather compete for a job at a middling SEC team with my old coordinator.” Very strange.

The content on this blog is…

The content on this blog is fantastic. I joined this blog nine years ago and it was honestly one of the better decisions of my life as a Michigan fan. The amount of time spent on UFRs, podcasts, HTTV, recruiting posts, position posts, opponent previews, and so much more is wild to think about. Thank you!

Just trying to put pieces…

Just trying to put pieces together here, but this could be why PSU had the most number of players enter the transfer portal for any D1 football program after last season.

I live in PA and people here are still befuddled on why Tommy Stevens transferred out. Trace was essentially playing on one leg against Michigan last season. Stevens was inserted in the second half after getting their ass kicked, threw an inexplicable interception to Watson, and Trace came right back in. That occurrence made me wonder then about how Stevens would handle that situation.

I sent you an email.

I’ll…

I sent you an email.

I’ll only accept your invitation if I get the first overall pick and Michigan season tickets.

Darren Waller is a guy you…

Darren Waller is a guy you may want to target for a TE that no one should know about. I follow the Raiders pretty closely, and he’s been a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenses since camp started. There is a reason why we let Jared Cook walk without offering him a contract. I thought I was in the clear with Waller for my draft until Hard Knocks did a feature on him last episode pretty much saying how underrated he was going into this season.

I logged in just to commend…

I logged in just to commend you on this great video. The split second addition of the Sparty CB laying defeated after the DPJ touchdown was brilliant. Fantastic work. Well done!

Thoughts

1) Why are reporters asking Coach Brown specific questions about quarterbacks? I understand asking a brief question about Shea, but asking about McCaffery and the other QBs was strange. Some reporters and their questions mystify me across all levels of sports.

2) Thank goodness the situation that Coach Brown touched on with Devin Bush got resolved. I know that we're deep at the linebacker position, but losing an all-conference backer as an underclassman is a huge loss for any team.

3. My excitement level for Ambry Thomas grew exponentially after reading this. Adding him to Hill, Long, and Watson has to make us one of the top three to five cornerback units in the country.

It's easy to lose track of everything in football with the basketball and hockey teams doing so well. But on the defensive side of the ball, Michigan sounds like it can be an elite group. Now let's just hope for no major injuries and steady player progression from now until our opener. Thank you for the write, Adam! It's much appreciated.

Wofford College

I went to a coaching clinic for football at Wofford College about three years ago. The town the school is located in is so small that if you blink once you’ll miss it. Great for the Terriers!

Fantastic Read

Was literally about the post the same article, but I learned from past users to check the board before I posted. Great perspective and insight from Moe. Well worth the read if you have the time.

Markquese Bell Update

I am currently on a coaching staff with a coach who coached Bell his freshman and sophomore year at Bridgeton High School in New Jersey. His former coach took him to Ohio State last weekend and he talks to Bell almost daily. I actually texted him this morning to tell him Bell would be in Ann Arbor this weekend as I'm always trying to get the lastest on his recruitment, and he responded with "Bell said no. He's in Maryland today." I felt a little behind on the times.

Anyway, the reason why I'm posting is because his former coach thinks it's a three team race between Rutgers, Ohio State, and Clemson. He said Bell likes Michigan a lot and Harbaugh is great, but Bell is very close with his grandmother. His grandmother wants him to stay close and go to Rutgers so she is able to see his games. However, Bell fell in love with Clemson on his visit a couple months ago, and he was asking if it were possible to have his grandmother be driven to a few games down there each season.

I know Ace and Brian changing their crystal ball because of some guy on the internet is highly unlikely, but I'm just trying to help out the best I can. Bell still having an offical visit set for Michigan definitely leaves the door open for us in his recruitment. If you're unfamilar with Bell as an athlete just check out his tape. The kid is just a football player as he plays multiple positions and has a gritty mentality. He will be a great additon to whatever school he chooses.

He'll probably be accompanied

He'll probably be accompanied by Partridge, Jabrill, and Gary. Just further evidence that our head coach is STILL working harder than yours.

These are one of my favorite features on this blog

These are one of my favorite features on this blog each and every year. As always, great information and analysis, Brian. Keep up the great work.

Just watched this kid's

Just watched this kid's highlights. Around the 1:25 mark he keeps the ball on a triple option read and takes it 55 yards for a TD as he out runs multiple defenders. Not bad for a "pocket-passer" as he's listed on the recruiting sites.

I had the same exact thought.

I had the same exact thought. Obviously having him in the class for his talent alone is huge, but he can have the same kind of impact Shane Morris had in his recruiting class by actively recruiting other recruits. Great way to finish off my Monday!

Yes!

Gary and Asiasi followed by McCaffery? Yes, yes, and yes!

Oh, without question it's a

Oh, without question it's a different situation. I'm just saying people who are looking at the NCAA as an enforcer for punishment in any situation pertaining towards college sports may be let down.

I highly doubt it. After

I highly doubt it. After they slapped Penn State on the wrist for the horrifying acts that happened there, I have no faith in the NCAA.

I guess since Rutgers can't

I guess since Rutgers can't recruit within their own state, they're trying a new recruiting tactic of taking Michigan grad students. I am intrigued to see how this works out.

Seriously though, best of luck to Ross. He'll definitely contribute as a player off the field there as he was the definition of a team-first player at Michigan.

I'm flabbergasted.

Oh well.

I'm flabbergasted.

Oh well. Best of luck to the young man wherever he ends up.

I shared this in a thread

I shared this in a thread about two weeks ago when things really started to pick up with Khaleke and Michigan...figured I'd share again because of the great news.

"Last February I attented a coaching clinic at a small dinky college here in PA. I currently coach high school ball under the guy who coached Andre and Bruce Ellington in high school down in South Carolina. It was a triple option clinic, but somehow this small college was able to get a few premier HS coaches there such as Tom Bolden (Joe Bolden's Uncle) from Colerain, Ohio and a few more.

Anyway, one of the speakers was the head coach from Mckeeseport HS. He looked like a slightly older and slightly heavier version of Mike Leach, hair and all. However, he had a hilarious personality. He started his speaking time with the line "I've coached kids who went to UPenn...I've also coached kids who ended up in the state pen." He then went on saying how he had a kid who would be a senior this upcoming year that he was very excited about. He then showed a few plays of him and I remember thinking "Yeah, he's pretty good."

Fast forward almost a year and I realize that kid he was talking about was Khaleke Hudson. This is the only reason why I want Khaleke Hudson in this Michigan class."

In all seriousness though, I watched his entire film yesterday and the kid is a heck of a player. I remember his head coach saying that in his triple option offense you need to be a smart kid who can identify defenses in a split second. Watching his film, not only does Hudson do that, but he also plays different postions in the offense such as A back and B back. Add playing full time defense to that as well. Hudson would be a wonderful addition to this class."

I guess the lesson I learned in all of this is to really pay attention to coaches at clinics when they say they have a special player on their team...

Congratulations to Khaleke, and I cannot wait to see him on the field on Saturdays.

Can Harbaugh create another

Can Harbaugh create another blizzard to hit America to extend Isaiah's time at Michigan this weekend? You know, before the SEC sends in a petition to the NCAA to stop blizzards from happening nationwide.

I just envisioned a

I just had a vision of a combination of Braveheart, Mike Singletary, and Rambo go through my mind as you described Khaleke's film...phenomenal description on your part.

I need to talk to Khaleke and

I need to talk to Khaleke and make sure he announces his time after 4pm. I have a geology lab until 3:50pm that day. Tweeting at him is the proper thing to do, right?

In all seriousness though, Khaleke is the one uncommitted recuit I'm most excited about whose last name isn't Gary. He would be a very welcome addition to this already tremendous class.

I respect that. It seems like

I respect that. It seems like the complete opposite is occurring in today's news.

Anyways, I'm glad Stephen is with us as it fills a big need at tackle. Go Blue.

He gets to coach the best

He gets to coach the best athletes of his coaching career while getting paid this kind of money? What a way to ride off into retirement, Coach. Well done, and great hire.

These are good points. The

These are good points. The picture of people cramming in the phone booth that Brian posted the other day in his recruiting roundup is just very vivid in my mind right now.

Hm we must really want

Hm we must really want another receiver...

I guess our staff is banking on one of our current receivers transferring, or they are thinking one of our current commits will either change position or commit elsewhere as was pointed out with Enis possibly going to Indiana. Is it possible that we end up with Pie Young, Donald Stewart, and Eddie Mcdoom down the stretch? I just can't see it happening, but hey, crootin'.

Yes, Berkeley is where he

Yes, Berkeley is where he coached. He won a state title as the offensive coordinator with Bruce Ellington as his QB.

If he does this dance at his pro day, he should go late 1st or early 2nd round in my opinion.

In all seriousness though this is awesome news. He's a kid who didn't have an ideal upbringing growing up in Detroit. I'm pretty sure I remember reading an article about him having to eat paint chips off a wall because he was so hungry. Fast forward into the future and he got to play football at the highest level in college and gets his degree from Michigan. I'll be rooting hard for this kid in whatever he does from here on out.

Good for him. Graduating from

Good for him. Graduating from Michigan with a degree in three years is impressive. He was a team first player as he switched postions multple times with no complaining. That team first mindset that he possesses will serve him very well in his career. Best of luck in everything you do in the future, young man.

I definitely agree. Penn

I definitely agree. Penn State did finish with the 14th best total defense in college football this past season which is very good. But as you said, the good recruiting class they're bringing in won't matter to this coaching staff because there might be a new staff in 1-2 years.

Fan Base

I went to the Penn State game this past season and I also live in PA currently. PSU fans aren't too high on Franklin for obvious reasons. They do view Schoop as their one bright spot and really like him, so this move could make the PSU fan base even more restless with Franklin.

It probably should be wierd

It probably should be weird that another man's gut can make me happy, but whatever. Always trust the gut.

I went and saw this movie

I went and saw this movie this past Saturday. I am currently a high school football coach and I, myself, have had four or five concussions in my lifetime through playing football. After seeing this movie I was generally shocked of all the ways the NFL tried to cover up this very serious issue. People who say this movie is a "money grab" or "a waste of time" are wrong. The players who suffered from CTE in the movie (and in real life) sustained over 70,000 blows to the head throughout their life according to Dr. Bennet Omalu. That statistic included their pop warner, high school, college, and professional years. Personally, I believe it should be the kid's decsion on whether or not they want to play the game. In saying that though, as a parent you need to caution them on some of the dangers that football could cause. Altogether, I believe everyone should go see this movie because it was very well done. It is guaranteed to spark an interesting conversation once you're done seeing it.

Wrong Nkemdiche...it's his

Wrong Nkemdiche...it's his brother. But still. I'm sure that family is going through a lot right now. Prayers to them and hopefully things get straightened out for the family soon.

Funny that this question was

Funny that this question was raised on the board. I went to the Penn State game this past weekend with a hand warmer around my waist. Penn State security officials acted like they had never seen one before and had to communicate to their higher ups to confirm if they were allowed in the stadium. After I explained that it was just a hand warmer that had no pockets in it and they checked it theirselves, they allowed me to enter the stadium with it. The ridiculous part of this story is they made a huge ordeal about a hand warmer and completely forgot to do a pat down on me.

I was watching this play live as it happened and I

I was watching this play live as it happened and I literally saw nothing from Frank. The only thing I saw him do was land on top of Rivers and put his hands up to avoid further confrontation. Rivers is a good quarterback, but he's been known to be a bit dramatic during times in his career. I hope teams don't try to instigate Frank like this throughout his career because of his past issues.

He seems a little overwhelmed by everything, but I

He seems a little overwhelmed by everything, but I think he'll be just fine down the road. Getting used to a new campus, academics, and a whole new approach concerning football is extremely hard for any 18 year old kid. Best wishes in your future, kid.

Best of luck to Thomas! I hope to see him run wild

Best of luck to Thomas! I hope to see him run wild in the MACtion.

TomVH thinks he stays out west like someone already said and he thinks he decommitted more because of Kiffin and not Nuss. Intriguing situation either way.
