He has a better chance of winning the super bowl with Michigan.

Michigan is confident because whatever the deal was certainly included measures necessary to keep other NFL teams from playing the spoiler. Otherwise there was no reason to make a deal with the Niners. I'd bet JH is signed already, they just want to keep it on the DL until after the game on Sunday.

This is premature. If I'm a OSU or MSU fan I'm buying these and hedging my bets. I don't think anyone wants to see these at a rivalry game if the sky falls and JH doesn't come.

My wild ass guess is that UM probably came to some sort of agreement with the 49ers that would allow them to sign JH before the end of the NFL season, thus eliminating the threat of NFL interference. I'm sure that "agreement" involved some money changing hands. That could be what the Niners GM was refering to when he said UM approached them the right way.

I'm with you man. I have no idea how all these former players are getting rock solid info about this coaching search. I think that many of them are on the internet just like we are, putting 2 and 2 together and just texting everyone that it's a done deal. That's how we are getting all these "OMG former player says......" threads.
|2 days 16 hours ago||My guess is that Michigan||
My guess is that Michigan contacted the 49ers in order to get their blessing, probably by paying them (the 2.5mil rumor?), to lock JH up before the end of the NFL season. Why else would Michigan have contacted them? Once this was agreed to, Hackett flew out and had JH sign.

Yes, and it was very interesting. I'm not sure what the rules are for citing pay site info here so I'll leave it at that.

No, plan B wont be setup to fail, especially if it's a quality hire. Will there be weeping and gnashing of teeth? For sure, but I don't think that will extend much beyond the announcement of the new coach.

After the other guy left, you could hear the reporters talking about the "Michigan question". Couldn't quite make out what they were saying though.

|1 week 5 days ago||I really want to believe that||
I really want to believe that Hackett has some sort of handshake, wink wink or head nod agreement with JH right now. Otherwise I just can't see any reason to delay hiring a coach this long, none of the plan B coaches are in the playoffs.
|2 weeks 16 hours ago||So you knew that this was the||
So you knew that this was the firm who would be conducting the search and you knew it back on December 4?
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||Well if it is as you claim,||
Well if it is as you claim, and Michigan gave JH a deadline of the 12th, I'd say the fact that some people are claiming we just hired a seach firm is decidedly bad news. Again, it all depends on if we hired these people weeks ago or today.
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||It's all about the timing.||
It's all about the timing. If Hackett hired them back at the start of all this, no big deal. However if this is a situation where they actually just hired them within the past day or two that looks pretty bad. That would mean that all of the chatter about people getting contacted has been BS and we are really at the start of this instead of nearing a conclusion.

Anyone who thinks UW won't be looking at some of the same coaches we are will be kidding themselves. Is it a better job than Michigan? No. However that may not matter if Michigan continues with its "process" and UW wants to hire right away. This definitely made things more interesting.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||If this goes on much longer,||
If this goes on much longer, I really hope it's because Hackett has some sort of handshake, head nod, wink wink from JH about becoming the coach after the NFL season. I can't help but feel like we will be in a bad spot if come the first week of Jan we are trying to make a plan B hire becuase JH said no.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||The more of these CC threads||
The more of these CC threads that pop up the more I'm convinced that no one ouside of the AD and the search firm has the first fucking clue about what is going on. I like Hackett already.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||How do you know he hasn't||
How do you know he hasn't been offered? People keep making this assertion among others with reference to the "process" but the way Hackett has kept a lid on things I'm just not sure how you can say any of those things with certainty.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||What is the correlation||
What is the correlation between Saban and Harbaugh? People keep trotting this out to make people feel better, but the reality is the situations have almost nothing in common. Aside from the fact that they were both employed by the NFL as a head coach, I can't see much else. Saban was a middling NFL coach at best, he could see the writing on the wall that it was never going to work. JH on the other hand has been very successful, he made it to the SB and has a couple of playoff teams. I want him to come as much as everyone else, but let's be real, this isn't a Saban-like situation here. We are trying to poach a very successful NFL coach during a season in which he could still make the playoffs.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Ugh.||
I'm so tired of these bullshit "source" threads. I just can't help myself, I have to click and I regret it every time. I know a guy who knows a guy, the ex-player angle, I've got family in the AD, random internet guy, random radio guy, I mean for fucks sakes, really? The only thing clear here is that Hackett has done a pretty good job at keeping the lid on the process because nobody knows shit about shit.

|7 weeks 2 days ago||I want Jim Harbaugh, but in||
I want Jim Harbaugh, but in my opinion, which is probably the vast minority, I don't think he comes. Putting aside the notion that anyone that has ever attended, visited, been employed by or taken a poop at UM will put all reasonable considerations aside and take any opening offered them, why would Harbaugh come? He sniffed a Lombardi trophy and his brother won one. He will have his pick of high paying NFL openings at the end of the season. I just think he is too competitive to walk away from the NFL when he has proven he can win big there.
Within the realm of people UM could actually get, I'd have to say #1 Mullen, #2 Miles and #3 Graham even though he'd be gone to the NFL after 2 good seasons.
