Last night Romine came in the play third base as a defensive replacement.
First batter of the 9th inning hits a routine ground ball to Romine, who bobbles it briefly and then lobs a throw to first base. The runner beats it by a half step. If Romine throws it hard the runner is out, but he lolli-popped it casually to first.
They called it a hit but it should have been an error (because of the bobble). Castellanos makes that play 10 times out of 10. Play Castellanos not Romine!

A few of my observations during the game--haven't had a chance to re-watch it.
What happened to Malzone's hand? I was sitting in that end zone and it looked like a late, cheap shot from Maurice Hurst. Did he rip at Malzone's facemask also? The O-line came in kind of late to defend him and Harbaugh eventually came running in to cool things down. Do we know exactly what happened?
As I was looking back at my game photos, I noticed that Reuben Jones got some good pressure on the QBs. Didn't really notice him during the game though. Before the game, Mattison chewed him out for running a drill wrong.
Ty Isaac looked great, as many have mentioned. His juke on Carlo Kemp was beautiful.

I've seen Sufjan a couple times and wasn't sure I would go this time, but after hearing Carrie & Lowell, I have to go. Brilliant album. If he had continued on the Adz path, I would have stayed home.
As others have mentioned, Carrie & Lowell has the feel of an early Elliott Smith album; simple, stark, passionate, and melodic, with multitracked vocals singing personal and painful themes. Illinoise has been a longtime favorite, but this one may top it.
Onstage, Sufjan and the late Elliott Smith have/had some similarities too--awkward shyness and imperfect performances (I've definitely never heard Sufjan use autotune!). Very impressive highlights--it seems like half of those long TD runs he isn't even touched. Poor competition, dominant O-Line, or incredible RB vision? He obviously has the speed. Hope he develops the Wolverine love!

I watched most of the fan day kicking exhibition and agree completely with a previous poster: "#93 Pauloski was the most accurate kicker and has a strong leg."
Pauloski was most impressive to me, followed by Wile. Broekhuizen looked better than last year and hopefully he has improved to provide competition. Gibbons just doesn't have it, in my opinion. His leg looks dead--the ball doesn't jump off his foot like Pauloski and Wile. It's odd because he looks so powerfully built yet he generates so little power with his leg swing.
Our kicking game will be better this year, because it couldn't be worse than last year!

Gee, I sure hope none of our current committed recruits become boosters in encouraging other kids to come to Michigan. Is Strobel a booster in recruiting Kalis? Is Chris Bryant a booster if he tweets Diamond about Michigan? Is Ross a booster for tweeting GBOD to potential recruits?
What an asinine rule and clearly not enforced (and probably unenforceable).
Where does intent come in to play? The rule posted above states:
"...they turn into a booster the moment they contact a recruit and act as a school's representative by trying to influence the recruit to attend that school."
(Not that litigation is pending, but...) Couldn't any fan say they are acting in their own interests as a consumer of collegiate football and not as a school's representative? What are the critera for being a "school's representative"? "Ticket purchaser" seems rather flimsy.

Antonio Poole looks like a beast. I'm 6'3" and he looked taller than the listed 6'1" to me... He has big wide shoulders and looks like he could run through a wall.

They were wearing different colored pants; one team white and the other olive.

Charlie Weiss is an offensive genius and has no ties to Tressel. Hire him now, OSU! Please!

Got my CW shirt on Saturday. : )

Congrats to Shane! A very impressive performance, indeed.

Yes, the right does hate big government... buildings.
|5 years 41 weeks ago||Was Clowe injured when he got||
Was Clowe injured when he got Kronwalled in Game 5? That was a nasty check!
|5 years 42 weeks ago||Which way did he go?||
Man, the kid is just a blur in his highlight film. He certainly knows how to hit a hole and accelerate through it!
|5 years 43 weeks ago||Woodson||
Charles Woodson came out after the Spring game but only signed autographs for kids. I didn't meet his age criteria, but was close enough to count the gray hairs on his chin.
|5 years 43 weeks ago||Poor Defense||
Wow. RSL defender #4 just gave up on the play, stopped running, and let his man score. Weak.
|5 years 43 weeks ago||Chest Save||
MSL team names may be a bit lame, but at least we don't have "BIMBO" enblazened across our chests.
|5 years 43 weeks ago||Better Game?||
I just finished watching today's DVR'd Barcelona vs. Real Madrid match. What a disappointing spectacle. A couple brilliant Messi goals late couldn't even save it for me.
Hoping that the RSL vs. Monterrey match is better!
|5 years 44 weeks ago||Deere Crossing||
This is one of my favorite pics from the Spring game and after. Still not sure why Jake left the stadium riding a John Deere... haven't heard anything about an injury.
|5 years 44 weeks ago||no||
We should be most concerned about his shoelaces. Look at that thing flapping in the wind. It could put an eye out.
No one can ever excel with untied laces...
|5 years 44 weeks ago||Body Language||
As I watched him on the sideline during the Spring game, his body language told me he wanted to be anywhere else. He did not look happy to be standing there.
|5 years 44 weeks ago||Autograph Heroes and Other Post-Game Comments||
I thought these three players were true autograph heroes after the game.
Mike Cox, Stephen Hopkins, Patrick Omameh.
They hung out outside the stadium posing for photos, signing autographs, and chatting with kids long after most had left. They didn't leave until everyone was satisfied. Very cool. Lots of other players were great as well, I was just amazed at the patience of those three.
Long after the game ended, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson came out of the stadium and signed lots of autographs. Well, Desmond did anyway. Charles only signed for kids and took off when all kids had their stuff signed. Desmond, however, stayed for a long time taking care of requests.
I had fun watching Sam Webb, Alen Trieu, and others work the recruits and recent commits as they emerged from the Junge Center. Most were interviewed once or twice. The kids all looked exhausted.
Two other comments:
Why did Jake Ryan leave on the back of a John Deere trailer? Hopefully he was just having fun and not injured. It made for a great pic though!
Josh Furman has the team's #1 dreads!
|5 years 44 weeks ago||I agree with the question:||
I agree with the question: "Who are the targets?"
Tom Brady doesn't come around much, but what players/coaches can we really identify that need to be reconnected?
Woodley was at the spring game a couple years ago but I didn't see him this weekend. Could he be a target?
|5 years 44 weeks ago||Sheldon Day had his Michigan||
Sheldon Day had his Michigan lanyard around his neck... and about a dozen other school lanyards sticking out of his jacket pocket. It was a pretty impressive collection! I saw MSU, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame among others. He said he was heading down to Virginia Tech next. I doubt it's him.
Coach Hecklinski was working Terry Richardson pretty hard after the game, telling him he needs to come to Michigan because "this is your home." Looked like it was making Terry a little uncomfortable... Doubt it's him either!
I'm gonna guess it's Bolden reserving his spot.
|5 years 44 weeks ago||Good News||
After the Spring game, I was standing behind Sam Webb when Coach Montgomery walked by. In a very quiet voice, Coach said to Sam "Did you hear about Royce?" and flashed a thumbs up and a smile.
Happy to see the "Hello" post when I got home!
|5 years 45 weeks ago||Absolutely||
TP should sign up for the draft today... The 2011 Canadian Football League Draft is less than a month away!
Renaldo Sagesse is the 16th rated player in the 2011 CFL Draft!

You'd think the couch comment would cushion the blow.
|5 years 47 weeks ago||Prime Seating||
I'm in Section 1, Row 18, but only got that location when I reduced my ticket request down to a single ticket. And I reserved that ticket within 5 minutes of getting the email.
Bottom line, I'm going alone but will have a good seat!
|5 years 47 weeks ago||Nice||
If that doesn't get the blood pumping on a chilly March day, nothing will!
|5 years 47 weeks ago||Thanks||
Thanks, Coach (and Tom) for sharing that. Sounds like a great kid who will fit in well at Michigan!
|5 years 50 weeks ago||Wait for it...||
Whatever the NCAA decides, I hope they take their damn time. I would love to see that dark cloud hang over Columbus while their players, fans, and boosters sit and squirm beneath the unknown consequences.

I'm just excited that Michigan is being considered by an Auctavius and a Leviticus.
|6 years 1 week ago||Name Dropping||
Cyler Miles Seaver Myers... Try saying that fast ten times.
These names are outstanding in 2012!
Win Homer, Zeke Pike, Gunner Kiel, Austin Appleby, Cole Gautsche, Noah Spence, Deaysean Rippy, Ondre Pipkins, Leviticus Payne, Maty Mauk, Pharoah Brown... Fantastic!
|6 years 1 week ago||BBQ||
I never thought much about BBQ until I visited my wife's family in Alabama a couple years ago... Fat Boy's in Prattville. Dayum! I could eat there every day! We tried another place in Montgomery but it wasn't nearly as good.
On the drive home I made us stop in Nashville so I could get more BBQ. Then at the Outer Banks we drove up to Sauls Bar-B-Que for some vinegar heaven. I'm hooked!
Anxiously looking forward to a visit to Satchels!
|6 years 1 week ago||Playing the best||
Yes, Coach Anderson definitely wants to pay the best teams. Plus, he recruits the Cali girls with the promise that they will travel to Cali a couple times so their families can see them play. And so they can escape the brutal Michigan winters.

|6 years 2 weeks ago||Big Announcement||
Brady Hoke will tell them that pre-season Lions games will be on channel 7.
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Jones||
I'm excited to see Kellen Jones be a beast on defense.
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Yikes!||
I hope our offensive line stays healthy in 2011! That is scary thin.
Hoke mentioned in his presser today: "there's the possibility that this class could grow by a few," so maybe Michigan will still sign an offensive lineman.
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Wrong senior stats||
From the MaxPreps and other articles I've seen, he had 150 carries in his senior year, not 450. He averaged 10.55 yards per carry.
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Hello indeed||
This power back is a welcome addition to our class. I'm thrilled he hit the books and made the grade. Welcome, Thomas!
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Thanks and goodbye||
Thanks for fixing the iPhone app. My wife really appreciates it. /s
Goodbye Soony (hadn't heard the confirmation). It was a short but fun ride!
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Thanks||
Thanks for all your hard work, TomVH. You've given us a lot of insight into this signing class and tomorrow should be a fun day for Wolverine fans.
Tip of the hat to RR for getting kids excited about Michigan and to Hoke for finishing strong under tough circumstances.
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Great Interview||
Cooper. Barnett. I'm liking these cerebral visitors! They both sound like outstanding young men.
I'd love to have them both on our side next season!
|6 years 3 weeks ago||Super Cooper||
Glad he enjoyed his visit. Sounds like an intelligent, thoughtful young man. Hope he dons the Maize and Blue hat!
|6 years 4 weeks ago||No Recruits||
I didn't see the recruits at either Water Polo game, but David Brandon and Fred Jackson made appearances.
The matches are a lot of fun. Did you know it's a penalty if one girl pulls another girl's top off? Seriously. The officials even have a hand gesture to make the call.
I expect to see all of you at the matches on Sunday against #4 UCLA and #1 Stanford!
|6 years 5 weeks ago||Pie in Sky||
What the hell, let's make this weekend really fun and add Christian Westerman to the list!

I suspect Maryland resident Darian Cooper may have heard of him and be excited by this hire...

I'm just glad Ricky Gervais wasn't roasting Michigan Football last night...
|6 years 5 weeks ago||Glutton for Punishment||
I keep coming in hoping to find something... anything... to raise my spirits on this ugly, gray Michigan day.
I know we have the potential "hello" to Flowers around the corner, but for some reason I have a hard time getting excited about him. Maybe it's because Lucien looked like such a beast in comparion...
Tough times in Ann Arbor... But at least the women's water polo team kicks off the season this weekend!

Devin just dominates on every highlight (which is why they call them highlights, I guess).
So sad that he won't be wearing the maize and blue next year. Hoping there is a good explanation...

Wow, he really planted his plant foot!
|6 years 5 weeks ago||SI Typo||
If you go to the SI story (from the front page link "Robinson admits he considered leaving Michigan," the headline now reads:
"Denard Robinson say he's staying at Michigan"
Is that what he say? What did your English teacher say?
