|17 weeks 4 days ago||Sufjan||
I'm a big Sufjan fan and will be at the Detroit show, hopefully with a photopass to shoot the first three songs.
I've seen Sufjan a couple times and wasn't sure I would go this time, but after hearing Carrie & Lowell, I have to go. Brilliant album. If he had continued on the Adz path, I would have stayed home.
As others have mentioned, Carrie & Lowell has the feel of an early Elliott Smith album; simple, stark, passionate, and melodic, with multitracked vocals singing personal and painful themes. Illinoise has been a longtime favorite, but this one may top it.
Onstage, Sufjan and the late Elliott Smith have/had some similarities too--awkward shyness and imperfect performances (I've definitely never heard Sufjan use autotune!). Here's a video I shot of Sufjan closing the 2010 Royal Oak show with "Casimir Pulaski Day": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhZ3dPWJ6Fw

To me the Michigan defense, especially the big men up front, looked fatigued in the 4th quarter. They were getting driven backwards in those last couple drives. I can see the Marcus Allen comparison, but the name that came to mind for me was OJ Simpson (minus the homicide). They both hit the hole at top speed and "gallop" through the hole, using their size and downhill speed to breeze past arm tackles.
Very impressive highlights--it seems like half of those long TD runs he isn't even touched. Poor competition, dominant O-Line, or incredible RB vision? He obviously has the speed. Hope he develops the Wolverine love!

|4 years 1 week ago||Pauloski||
I watched most of the fan day kicking exhibition and agree completely with a previous poster: "#93 Pauloski was the most accurate kicker and has a strong leg."
Pauloski was most impressive to me, followed by Wile. Broekhuizen looked better than last year and hopefully he has improved to provide competition. Gibbons just doesn't have it, in my opinion. His leg looks dead--the ball doesn't jump off his foot like Pauloski and Wile. It's odd because he looks so powerfully built yet he generates so little power with his leg swing.
Our kicking game will be better this year, because it couldn't be worse than last year!

Gee, I sure hope none of our current committed recruits become boosters in encouraging other kids to come to Michigan. Is Strobel a booster in recruiting Kalis? Is Chris Bryant a booster if he tweets Diamond about Michigan? Is Ross a booster for tweeting GBOD to potential recruits?
What an asinine rule and clearly not enforced (and probably unenforceable).
Where does intent come in to play? The rule posted above states:
"...they turn into a booster the moment they contact a recruit and act as a school's representative by trying to influence the recruit to attend that school."
(Not that litigation is pending, but...) Couldn't any fan say they are acting in their own interests as a consumer of collegiate football and not as a school's representative? What are the critera for being a "school's representative"? "Ticket purchaser" seems rather flimsy.

At the end of a long walk Saturday, I dropped in on Schembechler Hall since I had never been inside before. Antonio Poole looks like a beast. I'm 6'3" and he looked taller than the listed 6'1" to me... He has big wide shoulders and looks like he could run through a wall.
I also saw Posada, Rock, Beyer, and a couple others I didn't recognize, but Poole really stood out. Our LB crew in 2-5 years should be a terror to other teams!

|4 years 18 weeks ago||Autograph Heroes and Other Post-Game Comments||
I thought these three players were true autograph heroes after the game.
Mike Cox, Stephen Hopkins, Patrick Omameh.
They hung out outside the stadium posing for photos, signing autographs, and chatting with kids long after most had left. They didn't leave until everyone was satisfied. Very cool. Lots of other players were great as well, I was just amazed at the patience of those three.
Long after the game ended, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson came out of the stadium and signed lots of autographs. Well, Desmond did anyway. Charles only signed for kids and took off when all kids had their stuff signed. Desmond, however, stayed for a long time taking care of requests.
I had fun watching Sam Webb, Alen Trieu, and others work the recruits and recent commits as they emerged from the Junge Center. Most were interviewed once or twice. The kids all looked exhausted.
Two other comments:
Why did Jake Ryan leave on the back of a John Deere trailer? Hopefully he was just having fun and not injured. It made for a great pic though!

Coach Hecklinski was working Terry Richardson pretty hard after the game, telling him he needs to come to Michigan because "this is your home." Looked like it was making Terry a little uncomfortable... Doubt it's him either!
I'm gonna guess it's Bolden reserving his spot.

|4 years 32 weeks ago||Commit Touching Today?||
Did I mis-hear it, or did Hoke say that he would be contacting all the Michigan commits today after the press conference.
Is this allowed during the dead period?
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Everywhere Man||
I see Fred Jackson at nearly every Michigan sporting event I attend. Volleyball, soccer, water polo, basketball... The man is everywhere and seems to have a handshake and greeting for all.
He's a Michigan treasure!
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Yes||
I believe the one week "search" before the announcement was required to prevent litigation against UM.
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Yikes?||
I look at his recruiting classes at Ball State and SDSU and wonder if he's up to the challenge, but I'll reserve judgement until he hires assistants and starts talking to recruits. If he can flip a Zettel or otherwise make an immediate splash, I could start to get excited.
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Brandon Branding||
It certainly wouldn't hurt the Michigan brand to be discussed with a positive, big-name hire during the championsip game. Then again, if it's Hoke, not so much...
|4 years 32 weeks ago||Hmmm||
Paper or plastic?
|4 years 33 weeks ago||I am so done with this||
Please just hire Hoke and get it over with. I have no desire to live through season of M fans mocking our coach for not being a "Michigan Man" and not observing every damn Michigan tradition to the tits.
Hire Hoke and give him a blank checkbook to hire the best assistants money can buy. If we can't inspire recruits with our coach, let's just dazzle with with our staff.
Go Blue, OK?
|4 years 33 weeks ago||Thanks||
Thanks, Coach, for your hard work on and off the field. I wish you success in your future endeavors.
|4 years 33 weeks ago||Yes!||
I'm liking your list, especially the top 4.
Hoke MAY be palatable if he can pull in some major assistant coaches, but Hoke alone is not going to excite high school recruits.
|4 years 33 weeks ago||Quick Draw McGraw||
The media is packin' heat down at Shembechler Hall? And only the AP guy was fast on the draw?
|4 years 34 weeks ago||Hmmm||
We are restricted by NCAA rules to 11 players on offense. The rest is up to our coach next year.

I thought he was tired of winter and was asking you to make it summery...
|4 years 34 weeks ago||Running Game (Besides Denard)||
I felt like our season went downhill fast after Shaw got injured and we didn't have a reliable threat in the backfield with Denard.
So my biggest concern is that we a healthy RB that MSU must respect to complement Denard on the run option.

Here is a picture of my new groin and what I will do to your furniture.
|4 years 34 weeks ago||Yes, but...||
Here's to hoping that Anthony Zettel has "buyer's remorse" and goes Maize and Blue before signing day...
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Blais||
Yes, both goals were not played well by Blais, but he had help...
The UM defenders kept retreating instead of stepping up to prevent that first goal. There was no reason to keep backpeddling and give the man with the ball so much space. But that shot was just sick. It was struck hard, top shelf and near post, almost glancing both the post and crossbar as it went it. The shot came from well out, just right of center (not far wide), so Blais couldn't cheat too far to the near post before the shot.
On the second goal, Hamoody was marking the goal scorer but inexplicably drifted forward as the ball came in. He may have assumed (perhaps rightly) that Blais would come out to grab it or punch it away, but he still should have stayed with his man. And Hamoody was pulled from the game immediately. Yes, I think Blais was fooled by how far the kick carried into the box and he was late responding to it.
Still, Michigan had a great season and did will against a very talented Akron team. I watched the finals and think Michigan could have done well against Louisville had they gotten past the Zips.
|4 years 36 weeks ago||Sec 13 Row 53||
The sightlines from halfway up in the south end zone were great. The only thing that would have made it better was if they had pulled down the goalposts. Why didn't they?
On the other hand, the sound was pretty bad. If the ice was mic'd, I couldn't hear it. And the sound from hard checks and pucks against the boards arrived a second or so after the action. It was kind of surreal.
The game and event was great though. And the sight of Curly Fries parading the field made me drool on the lady seated in front of me...
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Congrats to Both Teams||
Akron was clearly the better team. That was an impressive display of touch, skill, and close marking. The finals against Louisville should be a very entertaining game.
Still, Michigan played hard and made the best of their limited opportunities. Soony's bender against the frame was soooo close... They had a great season and should be very proud of their accomplishments. Hopefully some big recruits have a new respect for Michigan's soccer program!
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Lawning It on West Davis||
I haven't cleared this with the spousal-unit yet, but I plan on opening up my lawn to cars tomorrow. (Hopefully the yard won't look like a mogul playground afterwards.) I can fit all of 8 cars so I won't make much of a dent in demand though...
I assume other neighbors will as well, but it's probably wise to leave extra time for parking. If it rains, the parking situation could get really ugly, though less people may show up for the game.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Anxious for Akron||
I'll be stuck in A2 but glued to the TV. This team has been fun to watch all year... Go Blue!

It's gonna be so bad ass the rain drops will just have to go around. Not today, rain drops... not today.

Is she dropping an anchor baby that can't be moved?
Did they already spend millions on a cardinal-red nursery in Palo Alto?
Does Brandon hate babies?
What am I missing here?

Just think how amazing (i.e., unstoppable) he will be with a consistent running attack behind him...
Love his ability. Love his determination. Love his attitude.
