I get around to the greater Sarasota/Tampa area all HS season long, and it's just on a different scale. Spring ball is just like college, the sport is year-round, coaching is year-round. We do clinics almost every month, with HS teams as "scrimmage" teams (games with no kicking). Not to mention it's hard to go outside and work on 7-on-7 drills in hip deep snow. BTW, Madden 7on7 starts in April for Regionals..Finals at IMG in Sarasota, see you there. |

I do High School games in Florida. We have to have a Sherriff deputy on the sidelines at all times we are on the field. My crew and I were assulted after a spring game...a friggin spring game! What Florida FHSAA has done is at the high school level if a kid gets kicked out of a game he/she looses the next 6 games (of any sport)..so if the season is over and the guy plays basketball he is suspended for 6 basketball games. But the youth leagues are BY FAR the worst...there is no governing body with authority. What can they do? Really. This month's issue of Referee Magazine has a detaied article about the assult that happened in Sarasota last year, if your interested. FWIW, I work Umpire and Back Judge. |

Well, it's not valid in the games my crew works. Usually you have at least 2 if not 3 covering officials in 5 man mechanics and in college they work 7 man so you have 3 to 5 covering officials. Dead ball unsportsman like 15 yards and a first down. Second offense in Florida is removal from the game...an ejection from any game results in an immediate 6 game suspension that can extend into the next year (if you have one). You can appeal but it takes 2 weeks to hear the appeal. I hear the same meme about holding as well, but this is for a different thread. |

He can keep on blocking, legally. It's only an immediate dead ball when the ball carrier looses his lid. For others the play ends then the player leaves for a play. |

Also, last year when Hoke and company were making the Alumni rounds nation-wide he was listed as a contact for info and I have his stuff saved in my phone...so I called him. He was totally cool about the whole thing. He also suggested the Mr. singleterry (sp?) is a better contact...FYI.

Magnus, You are correct, the 7on7 rules and NHFS rules for PI are the same. I also agree we call less PI's at a 7on7 than a HS game on average. Two reasons, one, the guys are all 4/5 star guys with speed and no pads, this leads to less banging. Second, with 5 recievers and only 3 officials we cannot possibly see everything we need to. A good official will NOT throw on a foul where he did not see the whole thing, hard to do when I have 3 guys at 15+ yards deep and I am on my own. |

Then all this shit ... the reason for the alum/Army stuff was I thought incorrectly that posters/users/contributors here would give the benefit of the doubt (until identified as a phony or something) and it was perhaps a lame attempt to ask passively.."why all the hate"? So, whatever...I did learn one thing..a 47 year old Alum/veteran/middle manager can in no way be cool, hip, funny or otherwise engaging on the internet. I got flamed last year when I posted about Shane Morris after seeing him in person at the IMG 7on7...so..again, I lost, I'm heading back to reading and never posting.

Awesome thanks. I remember everyone calling them Team Detroit, the Max Ex wasn't even used on the master Tourny board on the second day....the team even broke the huddle with a "Detroit" cheer. They were by far the most "together" team, very little bickering and sniping with each other...other teams almost had fist fights. Also, in cool story mode, Chris Wienke is a huge dude..Cam Newton not so much. Wienke is not in playing shape and Newton is but still...big difference. |
