Trice has actually started every game a PG but yeah point taken. Tum-Tum has not impressed outside of the name department

I believe he was pointing out the inherent ridiculousness of saying things like "the will to win", or that guy is "just a winner". Even when you put a player labeled a "winner" on a bad team, they lose.

At 2:40 here with the rip through to pro hop and finish. Out of the corner that you live in as a 4 in Beilein's offense.
All I'm saying is a. that is not a move that anyone Beilein has ever play at the 5 can pull except Smotz and playing him there didn't go over so well. That includes Mitch who, while being an amazing player, has never pro-hopped past a help defender. And b. that is something I want to see more of. Both because I, like you, want to see if it's for real, and becasue I kinda already believe it is for real based on his HS film.
That's the kind of thing you'll never get at the 5. Catching the ball in the corner, attacking a close out. Later in the game he grabs an assists off a PnR with Doyle and knocks down a 3. All great things for a JB 4 to do. I swear I'm not conjuring this excitement out of nowhere.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||What in the world makes you||
What in the world makes you believe I don't have faith in Beilien?
And I think you misunderstand how I used "skilled". Strength and quickness have nothing to do with it. Ability to shoot, use the bounce, classic basketball skills. He has Mitch in all these catagories except passing.
And yes we do want him to dribble, Beiein looks to have the ability to break people down at as many positions as possible. It's all about versitility. That is why he played Novak at the 4, to have another kid who can shoot and use the bounce, if only a little in Novak's case.
The fact that you seem to be comparing DJ Wilson to Dale Davis confuses me...
And no, playing the 5 won't help him attack. In Beilein's sets there are not situations where the 5 runs a ball screen, is set up to attack a close out, etc. He screens, rolls, steps out to reverse the ball then screens again. Not a ton of chances to show a ton of skill other than on mid-range jumpers and the occasional face-up move.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Disagree. What makes me think||
Disagree. What makes me think that Beilein will consider it is that playing DJ at the 4 is very different than playing Mitch or worse, JMo, there. DJ is much more skilled, better shooting range, and has flashed the ability to break people down off the dribble. Mitch is MUCH more of a banger than DJ was on that end.
Sticking him at the 5 robs him of a lot of chances to show his strenghts (shooting, taking people off the bounce as he did very impressively vs Wanye) and forces him to spend most of his time using the weakest parts of his game (screening and some back to basket stuff).
Furthermore, I don't think we've seen anything from Chatman to suggest that DJ shouldn't get a fair shot at winning the starting job at his natural spot.

DJ actually saw about a minute at the 4 in the second half. Which is nice because I really am hoping Beilein doesn't give up on getting him minutes there this year.

Did the B1G tourney change formats this year? Looks like the higher seeded team is hosting every game?
Also that goal was the worst thing ever. Ugh.

Good for you for sticking with the posts, this team is horrible. Thoughts on Shaka hot seat?

Also the game is tomorrow.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||I caught that game and their||
I caught that game and their youth really showed. Miscommunications all over the park killed their combinations and gave them fits going forward.
Frankly, I don't love the 4-3-3 for this side. It forces James Murphy to play too far back and relies on the young center forward as a target too much. As much as Daley hyped his strength in this convo, he is a short guy and had a lot of trouble holding off FIU's center backs.
Then again, it was just one game from a true frosh, so hopefully things turn around. I would love for them to make another run this year.
|33 weeks 6 days ago||I disagree that it was "never||
I disagree that it was "never about the system". Horford wanted more post touches, and Beilein really isn't interested in giving it to him. All year he would post up and yell for the ball to the point where it was audible over the TV broadcast. He would get a touch like 25% of the time he had position.
He obviously has a turnaround jumper in the post that he likes that we saw a few times this year. It's a finesse move that has fallen out of favor largely the way the game is being played today and especially under Beilein. He probably saw Patric Young getting 5-6 post touches a game and wanted a piece of that action. If that's who he thinks he is, I can't blame him for going for it. I don't necessarily agree but time will tell.

To be fair, Delvon Roe was hampered by a pretty nasty knee injury. I'm no fan of his, but he didn't exactly get a fair shot at fully developing his game.

No doubt. All I could think about watching the IU game was how bad Mitch would tear up that gimmicky scheme Crean was using.

For the most part I agree. He called out Glenn for dogging it back on D, which was long overdue. I just find some of his rants about effort level to be overly simplistic.

You've been listening to too much Dakitch. "When you're sick of losing, you win"
|44 weeks 6 days ago||I'd like to see us move Glenn||
I'd like to see us move Glenn from the corner to the short corner on PnR plays. Have him drift up to the high post as Morford rolls past. It's what we always did in HS and it seems a bit harder to guard than 3 stationary guys on the perimeter, especially with Glenn hitting 25% from 3. Makes the help such an easy decision for GR3's guy. He'd be much more of a threat from the top of the key/high post than the corner.

According to an email from the athletic department, bleachers, section 130, and 132 are available to the students in the lower bowl. I've never heard of Sec 132 before, is that where the band normally is? Is it possible that the dept gave up the band in order to avoid turning students away who wanted to claim tickets?

My friend who plays for Sparty got one of those chairs from the BWW bowl last year. Greatest chair I've ever sat in.

Any idea what his committment means for OL numbers for the rest of the 2016 class? I understand that it's a long way off and all but I've known Thiyo Ludkusa since he was a (relatively) little guy and I'd love to see him get an offer.

|1 year 18 weeks ago||I hear you. I personally||
I hear you. I personally choose to support Americans playing in the EPL, much like I cheer for Michigan players in the NFL. That makes Sunderland the club du jour for me this year, with their addition of Jozy.
Additionally, Tim Howard will remain with Everton, but his starting spot is being threatened some feel. The club signed Spanish GK Joel Robles to challenge or perhaps replace Tim.
Stoke City has an American owner, who has signed the American trio of Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu, and Brek Shea, with Juan Aguedlo also scheduled to enter the fold in the winter transfer window.
Can't wait for the season to start, and I very much look forward to every game being televised.

Yea Juve isn't in the EPL. Also, I hate seeing Michigan associated with Liverpool and by extension Suarez. Dude's a scumbag.

The drill where he's throwing the ball back and forth with his coach between combo moves is called the "Nash Drill" at my practices. It is about 40x harder than it looks and he was unbelievably smooth. Big wow experience watching that.

Mexico is also using a B squad, but that didn't seem to make them feel any better about losing to Panama last night. The US is allowed to call in players after the group stage, but only a certian (like 5-8 I think) number. This is an option Klinsmann has seemed to imply he will exercise, but hasn't mentioned who. Many EPL players are just beginning to report to thier clubs or enjoy the last of the very short offseason, so players like Jozy and Dempsey are almost certainly ruled out.
