Don't you mean Indiana is Adios?

Hmm?

The sea was angry that day, my friends . . .

George: The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty feet out and suddenly, the great beast appeared before me. I tell you he was ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, "Easy, big fella!" And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized that something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.

Jerry: Mammal.

George: Whatever.

Kramer: Well, what did you do next?

George: Well then, from out of nowhere, a huge tidal wave lifted me, tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him - face to face with the blowhole. I could barely see from the waves crashing down upon me, but I knew something was there. So I reached my hand in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction.

George: [reveals the obstruction to be a golf ball]

Kramer: What is that, a Titleist?

[George Nods]

Kramer: A hole in one, huh?

Jerry: Well, the crowd most have gone wild!

George: Oh yes they did Jerry they were all over me. It was like Rocky 1. Diane came up to me, threw her arms around me, and kissed me. We both had tears streaming down our faces. I never saw anyone so beautiful. It was at that moment I decided to tell her I was not a marine biologist!

Jerry: Wow! What'd she say?

George: She told me to "Go to hell!" and I took the bus home.

This article feels less even than usual. Doesn't mention poor

field conditions/wind, or what a great job our punter did.  I think he took alook at the stat line and mailed this one in.  Agree that he could have easily laid the same criticisms on his favorite team.

I think what bugs me about the kicking game is the special teams

play in general.  The 2 big goofs of App State onsides kick (almost a turnover) and the short kickoff turnover from Miami after Norfleet had a nice return were predictable situations that the boys should have been prepared for.  They were not.

At least we play at home, so road buterflies s/b at bay.

That old guy from Nebraska was right on:

"Football Game Or Circus?

I have been thinking about this since I arrived home from the game last night.I will preface this post by saying I'm nearly 60 and have had my seats in Memorial stadium for over 30 years. I fully understand what some percieve as a need to cater to the desires of all the young high school football players we are trying to recruit but I am wondering if this may be at the cost of alienating some of the older fan base such as myself.I'm wondering if anyone else felt like the game yesterday was more like a circus or carnival than a football game?

To me,the music was way too loud, played way too often and in my opinion actually detracted from the whole game experience. Not sure what to think of the WiFi deal, all of the texting etc on the cell phones was enough to drive me crazy and now the fans are bringing laptops and holding them up in the air to take photos.Instead of something worthwhile being shown on the big screen, we are asked to text in whether we prefer the cornheads or the red foam hats! Dedicated lines at the concessions for debit cards is another thing that I'm sure will really appeal to some but is it really that hard to carry a few bucks cash to buy a soda and a dog?

My 17 year old grandson attends every game with me and has since he was 7 or 8 and even he thought the whole remake was a bit much. I am not a person who makes snap decisions but at this point in time,I'm not sure I'll renew my 4 seats for next year......I know many on here will disagree with me and say "good maybe some real fans will be able to buy those tickets". Just wondering what everyone else thinks? GO BIG RED!"

I would say "Circus".

Football game from MASH movie

[a gun goes off at the football game]

Hotlips O'Houlihan: Oh my God! They've shot him!

Colonel Blake: Hot Lips, you incredible nincompoop! It's the end of the quarter.

------------------------

Colonel Blake: Football game?

Gen. Hammond: Yeah, yeah, we put up a few bets, five thousand maybe, and have a little fun. Special services in Tokyo says it's one of the best gimmicks we've got to keep the American way of life going here in Asia.

Colonel Blake: Betting?

Gen. Hammond: No, football.

------------------------

Colonel Blake: [to Spearchucker Jones at the football practice] I had another idea. I think we should have some plays. You know, usually in football you have some organized plays...

Spearchucker: If you don't mind, I took the liberty.

Colonel Blake: Oh, you have...

Spearchucker: I drew up about seven or eight plays. I figure that's about all this bunch can handle.

Colonel Blake: Oh, these are good. These are very good. Uh, what are these little arrows?

You must be mistaken, the NFL is a non-profit organization . . .

At the corporate level, the NFL is an nonprofit 501(c)(6) association.

I can't remember the last time an OSU kid missed the game . . .

just because of bad grades.

In honor of UMoops and George Costanza . . .
I don't think the OP said anything about maturity, just . . .

inteligence.  The question to ask is how is she doing socially at her grade level.  If she is mostly interacting with same age kids, then she may not be ready.   12 year old girls do not have the same boyfriend issues as 16 year olds.  I would wat to see how she manages and navigates this terrain.  There will not be a lot of 16 year olds walking around Harvard.

The last thing you want is for her to crash and burn 800 miles away from any support.

College kids away at school have a whole lot more vices ( drinking / sex / drugs) to indulge.  If she is not on equal footing socially, them she may get dragged into something for the wrong reasons.

As far as cost, most ivy leages have endowment scholarship programs that can assist the non-super rich.  Getting in is the trick.  She needs to have more than great grades to be accepted.  She has to interview well, be an original thinker and show participation in organizational activities.

Just my 2 cents

I think the speculation is fueled by quotes like:

Quote from the article:

The only team that was willing to draft me, pay me first-round money and allow me to play football in college and baseball in the summer time was the Yankees

I do not beleive that Steinbrenner makes this offer if Henson was the starting QB for Ohio.  He probably enjoyed screwing up UM's season with an outside chance that Hensen develops.

I'd ask him, except he is dead.

Nebraska really needs to work on their tackling . . .

That was a beautiful gesture.  Good work Red.

Downing has lost everything and you have to wonder if he can rebuild his life.

Don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but we should probably

wait until he mentions us before going nuts about it.

Noel: I am breaking up with YOU.

George Costanza: You can't break up with me, I've got Hand.

Noel: And you're going to need it...

And further more with oversigning and a willingness to move . .

underperformers, a scholarship to Alabama is really just an invitation to try out over the summer.  Those that perform get to stay, those that aren't as advertized are rooted out to make room for others.  Under this system, recruiting rankings do not really tell the story, so while I admire the effort the OP put in, I don't think  there is much takeaway.

They have removed/mitigated the element of chance.  Everyone gets rich and fans are happy, so what's the problem.

Now I know that the SEC has now put some limit (28?) on oversigning, but the machine has been built, and its success is a porch light that attracts more consistant talent like moths to the flame.

The only difference I see between Hoke and Meyer is . . .

Meyer actually kicked Klein off the team, while Hoke suspends pending legal resolution.

BTW, IMO Meyer's disciplinary approach can not really be measuered this year, since Ohio can not go to a bowl game and hence not much expectation.  He can be as strick as he wants.

We will know a lot more about it next year when there is something to play for.
