For even more fun, they…

For even more fun, they spend the first part of this video saying that Georgia would not have beaten Michigan.  "Michigan whips Georgia". "Michigan is way better than a lot of people are giving them credit for." "We're going to talk about them (Georgia) losing a physical game to Alabama. They absolutely would have lost a physical battle against Michigan."

He still has a tendency to…

He still has a tendency to cast losses to Michigan as "what did Ohio State do wrong" but before the season in one of his podcasts, he did say that he thought if there was a team that could win the national championship without the highest level of recruiting, it was Michigan.

And then in the Until Saturday playoff reaction podcast, he says that if you based playoff selection on what teams you least want to play, he picks Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Michigan, refusing to pick Ohio State because Michigan beat them and he's tired of being called a homer. Then says that Michigan is the greatest thing that's ever happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0H6J5OtaU4  .

I want us to take on and…

I want us to take on and beat Alabama and Georgia just so we can say we beat the three most talented teams in the country.  Imagine the people that would lose their shit if that happened.

I'm sure out of deference to…

I'm sure out of deference to their current players, they would never flat out say they wished they had offered him instead of.... but I get your point.

I do listen to their…

I do listen to their Michigan Monday podcast and they were very impressed with the depth and quality of Michigan's defensive line, noting that Kenneth Grant was not offered by OSU and wondering if the Buckeyes wished they had offered him.

"When he's that open, forget…

"When he's that open, forget about it.  Play the fight song."  2005 Rose Bowl, Braylon Edwards second TD.

I think we were trolling…

I think we were trolling Manny Diaz with that play calling in the second half.

Thank you for posting this. …

Thank you for posting this.  What I found most interesting in this was what the NCAA considers to be unethical conduct:

A. Changing numbers during the game to deceive the opponent.
B. Using the football helmet as a weapon. The helmet is for the
protection of the player.
C. Targeting and making forcible contact. Players, coaches and
officials should emphasize the elimination of targeting and
making forcible contact against a defenseless opponent and/or
with the crown of the helmet.
D. Using nontherapeutic drugs in the game of football. This is
not in keeping with the aims and purposes of amateur athletics
and is prohibited.
E. “Beating the ball’’ by an unfair use of a starting signal. This
is nothing less than deliberately stealing an advantage from the
opponent. An honest starting signal is needed, but a signal that
has for its purpose starting the team a fraction of a second
before the ball is put in play, in the hope that it will not be
detected by the officials, is illegal. It is the same as if a sprinter
in a 100-meter dash had a secret arrangement with the starter to
give him a tenth-of-a-second warning before firing the pistol.
F. Shifting in a way that simulates the start of a play or
employing any other unfair tactic for the purpose of drawing
one’s opponent offside. This can be construed only as a
deliberate attempt to gain an unmerited advantage.
G. Feigning an injury for any reason is unethical. An injured
player must be given full protection under the rules, but
feigning injury is dishonest, unsportsmanlike and contrary to
the spirit of the rules. Such tactics cannot be tolerated among
sportsmen of integrity.

"As seen from the examples above, the NCAA clearly expresses what it believes
to be unethical conduct. Given the chance to explicitly condemn and call out
sign stealing as unethical behavior, the NCAA chose not to include it, and its
absence further proves that sign stealing is viewed as ethical in college
football."

Chapter 23 - Emphasize…

Chapter 23 - Emphasize Execution, Not Innovation

Michigan is now "Linebacker…

Michigan is now "Linebacker to Running Back U"

On air before the Sainristil…

On air before the Sainristil pick six, Doug Karsch said that Will Johnson gestured to the Rutgers wide receiver to go in motion, who then goes in motion.  Did that really happen?  That sounds like a pretty dialed-in defense.

I’m not sure their writers…

I’m not sure their writers are confusing 2007 with 2005.  Just last year in their emergency room short, they referenced “The Horror” with Texas A&M giving us company and also asking about a time machine to 2007 regarding a ND loss to Marshall.

Buckeyes: Jim Marshall (for…

Buckeyes: Jim Marshall (for old Minnesota Vikings fans like Craig Ross); Jim Jackson

Spartans: Nick Baumgardner

They've been tough on…

They've been tough on Alabama this year.  It might seem a little cruel, but I thought the one from a few weeks ago where they portrayed Alabama as a "Make a Wish" child was especially funny.

"I don't want to play Georgia!"

They were running up the…

They were running up the score- going for a field goal instead of another safety.

1999 Citrus Bowl - Two…

1999 Citrus Bowl - Two moments in this game when I thought we could see what Tom Brady was capable of doing.  About 1:50 left in 3rd Quarter, 3rd and 9, score tied at 24, Brady picks up the first down running after getting blasted by a defensive back.  Yes, he turns it over on an interception that drive but it reminded me of Brian Griese picking a first down running in the last drive of the 1998 Rose Bowl.  Later, Brady hits Tai Streets on a crucial 4th and 2, which eventually leads to the go ahead score in that game.  The penalty flag on that play was waived off.

How about awarding $1 in…

How about awarding $1 in damages, like the USFL?

He didn't write much about…

He didn't write much about the game itself but they have a lot of podcasts.  Their postgame right after the game begins with fully acknowledging that Michigan annihilated the OSU defensive line. They actually have a sense of humor about the game and result.  For example, "Michigan, 297 yards rushing on 41 carries, 7.2 yard per attempt.  That number is the actual number and it is also sack adjusted.  Oh, there were no sacks, so there's nothing to adjust.".

OSU will be hard enough to…

OSU will be hard enough to beat even if we play our best.  But we can't do them favors with mental lapses like offsides when OSU is punting or late hits that extend OSU drives and other unforced errors like fumbled routine snaps and exchanges.  Yes, I just looked at the highlights from the 2019 game

I was a grad student at FSU…

I was a grad student at FSU that year and I have to agree that we were not just a few trick plays worse than FSU.  I remember thinking that Michigan's plays seemed so much slower to develop than FSU's.  FSU players also went to concession stands after the game to buy Michigan hats and were wearing them for interviews on TV for a few weeks after that.  FSU coaches commented that Weldon did a good job of reading coverages and explained that Michigan had done a good job of disguising them.

Wins where they play…

Wins where they play surprisingly well after previous losses seem most satisfying to me -

1993 Rose Bowl over Washington, after getting blown out the year before

1989 NCAA Sweet 16 win over UNC after losing to them the previous two tournaments and 1989 Illinois Final Four game.

Would like to have seen this…

Would like to have seen this kind of action - Brady vs.1997 defense.  He had the same attitude in his rookie year at New England.

Jansen: I do know the defense has talked at length about one of the reasons they were so good – obviously they had Charles Woodson and some great players – is they were prepared for every game because of the looks they got at practice. The level of competition from our scout team was, at times and most of the time, better than the teams that we were playing.

Loeffler: He was always kicking the first-team defense’s ass. You just knew the kid was going to be great.

Wow - we lived there too at…

Wow - we lived there too at about the same time - 1973 to 1980 at White Pine and Cedarbrook.  Summer of 1975, I would have been going into fifth grade.  That was a great neighborhood - being able to walk to Booth, taking that path off Cathedral.  I also did Franklin baseball but just for two years.  I also remember a bowling alley at Maple and Telegraph (Strike and Spare?).

I recall seeing ads for shirts like this in my Facebook feed.

Sad scrambled eggs.  David…

Sad scrambled eggs.  David really wants Brian to try them.  We can do a Sam "Webb" I am version in which he tries to get Brian to try them.

I know you guys came up with…

I know you guys came up with the 1985 season as a comparison, but how about the 1988-89 team?  Like the 1980 team, this one also came back to have a great season after opening with two losses, including games we could have won against ND and Miami. Also like the 1980 team, the 1988 team was coming off a somewhat disappointing 1987 season (losses to ND, MSU, OSU and Indiana).  Both teams finished ranked fourth in the nation.

There was a special, probably unique, appreciation of that Rose Bowl win on January 1, 1981.  You had to see Michigan lose all those bowl games up until then and you just never thought we'd win one.

I was in section 308 and…

I was in section 308 and could not see how much the school assigned seating sections were filled up.  Could not hear the band very well but could certainly hear the piped in stuff.  Food prices were really reasonable, good place to take in a game.   I don't know if they showed this on TV but Charles Woodson was there, inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. On the ride in on MARTA, heard Florida fans being all worried about this game. Also, could help but think of Brian’s comment on what all other band announcers sound like compared to Karl Grapentine when I heard Flirida’s Band announcer, although he was not that bad.

Takorea - Mexican/Korean…

Takorea - Mexican/Korean fusion.  Lots of good tacos, including KFC (Korean fried chicken), calamari, and shrimp.  The sesame fries with chipotle ketchup are to die for.

Lots of stuff here that is…

Lots of stuff here that is complementary toward Michigan but this is one he repeats:

"I wrote yesterday and probably tweeted that one of the main differences between the Ohio State defense and the Michigan defense is that the Buckeyes always look like they’re about a man-and-a-half down, while the Wolverines generally look like they’re playing 13-on-11."

Thanks for pointing that out…

Thanks for pointing that out about how he uses the same method of removing large gains to get average yards per attempt with OSU as well as Michigan.  I didn't realize he was doing that with OSU as well.  To a certain extent, it makes sense for him to do that.

Ian Gold, Greg McThomas and…

Ian Gold, Greg McThomas and Lawrence Reid were primarily linebackers but they’re on this list, and fairly high up too, given what I thought were limited snaps at RB.

Tarkanian left UNLV at 62

That's the closest I can come up with for a late career college to NBA jump but the similarities end there as I think Tarkanian had resigned or was forced out from UNLV while Beilen is the complete opposite (and thankfully so).

Glory Great cast - great story
Good luck to Ibi

I'll remember him as part of the 1st half three point barrage by seven different players against A&M.

This is cruel I had root canal done last week. Will miss Whoppers and forms of caramel.
No

Maybe it just took him this long to be so clever?

Hard to rate things on a 100 point scale

I like your idea of a survey of fans to get their feelings about the season but I have a hard time with scoring things from 0 to 100.  Can I even tell the difference between a 70 and a 71 on this scale?  Is the difference between 99 and 100 really the same as the difference between a 50 and a 51?  Maybe 0 to 10 would have been easier?

Another great thing about Mo’s ankle breaker The specimen who must have gone out of his way to get his NJIT shirt is in the background.
Lack of independence?

I sort of relate this to Brian's note about 3PP in the last six games on neutral or away courts vs. the games in the NCAA tournament.  Those last six games were against opponents we were seeing for the second or third time.  I wonder if we just do a better job of exploiting matchups seeing other teams the second or third time around than typical teams?  Opponents are not randomly distributed over time.  Of course, not everyone plays better the second time around but maybe some coaches (and players) are better at making adjustments between games with the same opponent than other coaches..

Thank you to the 2017-2018 team

With the great defense this year, you've laid down a solid foundation of hard work, integrity and excellence for future teams to build on.

No mention of this in the national media so far

which just plays into our super sneaky plan to win the championship on Monday night.

Said the same thing in the press conference

"We tried to space it and cut hard, their length, they're really good defensively, they close the gaps,...they close the gap of opportunity really fast. We've done a really good job all year of spacing it, moving it...when a gap opens up or a breakdown opens up...they were shrinking the gap of opportunity so fast...I remember one back cut, it was wide open and all of a sudden they close to the body with their length and got a deflection"

This defense is just ridiculously good.  I think it can carry us over Villanova.  That would be something to beat Villanova without shooting like against Texas A&M.

Best defense, period

They need to stop saying this is John Beilein's best defense - it's just a great defense, period.

Offense in B1G tournament

One thing that a lot of folks have been saying is that we wish the offense looked more like what we saw in the first nine games of the current 11 game streak, particularly in the Big 10 tournament.  In that streak, we had games with familiar opponents.  I trust in the coaching staff to be able to adapt to unfamiliar opponents, identify advantageous matchups, etc.  like in the NCAA tournament, although for whatever reason, it didn't seem to take place against Montana or Houston.  Hopefully that really was rust from the layoff.  But a part of me wonders if the team "overperformed" in the Big Ten tournament, taking advantage of our second or third look at opponents, which John Beilen and the staff excel at.

Irrational thought during the game

"When is Duncan Robinson going to score his 6th point?"  Is that still a thing?

1986

We were a #2 seed and lost to 7th seeded Iowa State that year.

Jemele Hill's commentary

"Michigan State needs to wear this shame. The university deserves this humiliation, derision, doubt, discomfort and every unkind word. We need to listen to every word from the victims and absorb all of their anger. They’ve dealt with this betrayal and violation of their trust for years. Michigan State only has to survive a few news cycles."

Shared Craig's misery

Oh, to be a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Michigan during the 70s.  Losing Rose Bowls, losing Super Bowls.

Sharks

Brian and McElwain both seem to have this thing about sharks.
