One hand, quit drinking and go to bed. On the other hand, why exactly is everything in this spectacular rant true. Two things this team has been all year is 1) prepared, and 2) motivated. This team looked sleepy and woefully unprepared today. Even the "trustees" like Lewis and Peppers did not appear all in. It was a very odd showing from the players and the staff today.

1 loss Iowa team would go to ny 6. I see it as Iowa to Orange v. Clemson. OSU to Rose v. Stanford. State to Fiesta or Peach. M to Citrus v. Florida or Outback v. Miss.
|11 hours 46 min ago||I understand that,||
but Smith is not a high level back. If you get Peppers to the edge he can make things happen.

Is not going to matter if we can't run the ball. No team can consistently compete at a high level and really have no formula to consistently move the ball on the ground. Smith will not do. I don't think the D is going to be an elite outfit after watching today. I think the best bet for next year is to go with Jabrill as the full time tailback. Thomas has played very well lately and Peppers is not a spectacular defensive player. (He was no where to be found today). We need a consistent way to threaten teams offensively. OSU was not concerned with our offense AT ALL today. If Lewis returns our secondary will be above average without him. He is our best player and needs to be utilized where he can most influence the game.

was pretty pathetic today. Save for one defensive possession, the crowd was dead and the place looked like a "red-out" from above. The noon start really hampers this game and I think the lack of big game atmosphere shows in the teams play. The crowd was more fired up for the Rutgers game than this. This did not feel at all like a "rivalry game."

don't think what happens this year effects next year, but it has some bearing on what to expect. To think we could go to OSU and win next year does not seem plausible at all right now. We got blasted today. Varsity v. JV style, players and coaches.

here. We don't play particularly disciplined and certain calls he makes seem head scratching. The roughing call was a perfect example. We had field position falling in our favor and he sends everybody on a block? Why, exactly? Just asking for trouble.

Is my biggest issue trying to come to terms with this. The disparity between the two teams today was eye opening. That is a long term fix. 5-7 years. Not 1 or 2. Very discouraging day. Way too much red in stadium to begin with, and a very concerning game for this team going forward. Next year looks much different now.

This not feel like the least hype, lamest version of this game ever. Not just the teams play, but the intensity was lacking. Very little emotion. Wonder if this rivalry has seen its best days. Just wasn't feeling it.

why? What is the issue? Why can't it be solved?

entire game changed on the Roughing the Kicker. Should have left well enough alone.

Would take Irvin out of there. He is in obvious pain after surgery and should not be playing, IMO. He is not helping himself or the team, long or short term.

get what you are saying but the Big Ten is deep and we have very few opportunities for pre conference resume builders. It would be one thing if we were losing these games close but we are getting hammered. We look physically overmatched and have no identity of any kind on either end. It is a long season but alarm bells are going off. I don't think there is any question about that.

bench is not just designed to salvage players, it is a punitive measure for fouling. Not fouling is not an accident, it is a philosophy. He is too inflexible with it though, and to use a Brian-ism, it is becoming a little "malpractice-y"

don't think offensive production from the 5 is that much of a concern. It is more the lack of cohesion with the rest of of the offense. Like, what exactly do we do on offense? What do we run? Dribble around and chuck it up is what we run. The rotation is too big. Nobody is having a chance to develop an identity. More Rawk,less Dawk is probably an idea. With Rank, teams at least have to cut him off when he drives.

I don't think the issues here can be adequately summed up by shooting woes. There are some rather glaring problems I did not anticipate. I would have three off the top suggestions; 1) hold Irvin out until he is right because he is far from it, 2) Tell Caris to be very aggressive early in the game to gets teams keyed on him to open up space for other players, 3) shrink the rotation - to many players for any lineup to get a feel with each other.

but I have also never seen a coach as detached and frankly disinterested as Meyer was during that entire game so I was almost assuming something was up by the time Elliott spoke out.

but I think you are being a little too dismissive, especially if Cook does not play. Nothing breeds confidence like success, particularly in game success, and if Penn State is in the game they are likely to become fired up in a hurry. There is very little to believe that PSU can win this game but it is not like there is an overwheling talent disparity where they would have to play well "above themselves" to win. If MSU makes a few mistakes and a couple of things go right for PSU, all of the sudden Penn State is the team with the experienced QB who has been through the ringer and can perform down the stretch. It is a game that MSU will win easily if things go according to script. But if is also a game that could get away from them in a hurry if Cook does not play and they make some early mistakes.
|4 days 15 hours ago||It is||
just so circumstantial. Last week, for anybody to tell me that MSU was going to have the "emotional edge" over OSU after Cook went out I would have told them they were crazy. However, I could tell right away that something was amiss with OSU right away and really never got the feeling they were going to win it. It is hard to predict.
I will say that I have seen very little evidence of Mark Dantonio teams falling prey to trap games, etc. They are usually frustratingly even keel in these circumstances.

look at that thread. I did look at the predictions of DOOM in the comments after the UFR of the Indiana game, and DOOM certainly made an appearance in that thread and a few others.
|4 days 16 hours ago||No,||
not really. Not every loss is a "Sparty No." A "Sparty No" moment is a special kind of screw up. Imagine a team that had the ball at midfield with 10 seconds left and a two point lead that only had to get a punt off to win the game. Now imagine that team losing that game. Now put a green uniform on that team. That is "Sparty No."
|4 days 16 hours ago||Actually,||
I don't remember the Board being like that at all. I remember people really getting silly with concern over PSU, Hack, and Barkley. I actually remember being confused as to why everybody thought PSU had such a good shot.
|4 days 16 hours ago||Just||
as I thought -1.5 was way too low if Cook could not play, so to do I believe that 11.5 is way too high even if he does.
|4 days 16 hours ago||They||
don't do that much anymore. The last real "Sparty No" moment was the roughing the kicker against Wisconsin but even that wasn't a complete debacle.
