I was wondering what the Wings' playoff history was as an underdog, so I took a look back all the way to 1975, when the playoffs went from 8 to 12 teams. 7th is the worst seeding during this period. There were 3rd seeds in the Norris division that would have been the equivalent of 6th seeds. During the current playoff streak, the Wings have been a low seed only 4 times. If I didn't list a year, the Wings didn't have a low seed.
The Dead Wings era, 1967-83, had only two playoff appearances. |
