Or, maybe, it's unrealistic

Or, maybe, it's unrealistic expectations at the beginning of the season?

Game at WMU

When the State of Michigan was in a depression, Hollis scheduled home/home series with EMU/WMU/CMU.  MSU gets 3 home games against each, then has to play one home game with each of the in-state schools.   He got a lot of positive publicity at the time and the game at CMU generated a lot of buzz at the time. I expect the WMU game to generate a lot of positive buzz again.

MSU is giving up a decent amount of gate every 3 years, but gets some positive publicity out of it.  But if they manage to lose one of those games...

Colts' Head Coach???

Not to hijack the thread, but if you don't know the name of the Head Coach of the Colts, you probably shouldn't be commenting about football.

What's the beef?

Schlissel is the only one on campus who's willing to accept responsbility, admit mistakes were made, apologize, and pledge to make improvements.  He's not taking anyone's side and he's not pointing fingers.  And people want to criticize him for not individually replying to the hundreds of emails he's probably received on this issue?

SMH

Angelique takes a different POV

Not surprisingly, Angelique writes a similar article, but basically recites the U's position.

Sadly, Brandon has also created an environment with the media where those who rely on daily access for their job are turned into shills for U.  Good for him, bad for the fans/alums.

Agree 110% on Brandon

Tired of the schedule.  With our revenue, DB should be able to find a way to give up a home game in alternating years to start scheduling home and homes with BCS teams.

Suspend him

This was a borderline "heat of the moment" play, as he had to reach down and grab the facemask.  And he's a Captain and a Senior, which means he has to set examples for good behavior and take his lumps when he does something stupid. To maintain long term discipline, Hoke should suspend him.  (And he should NOT be defending Lewan's actions)

Not that bad

I've been to Spartan Stadium a few times and it's never been too bad. There's a few bad apples everywhere, and there might be a few more due to the rivalry, but I've never experienced anything close to bad enough to make me want to avoid going to a football game.  I've been to many away games and I feel that if you are respectful of those around you, you've got a buffer.

Brandon/Hoke

I'm not sure I'd give Brandon a ton of credit for the Hoke hire.  It turned out to be a great move, but it wasn't like Hoke was Brandon's first choice and Brandon's attempt to land Harbaugh was a bit embarrassing.

I'd give it to Long for the Petrino firing.  In this day, in the SEC, that took guts.

I don't get it

Are we really naive enough to think that DB didn't factor this cost into the budget when negotiating the event?

No, it's extortion. DB knew that the fanbase would be outraged and donors will step forward to save the day, saving him $400k from his precious budget.

52 million reasons why you're wrong

Your post would have been accurate a few years ago when people joked about Amaker's VHS player, but the $52 million Crisler Center renovation puts that to rest.  The facilities are now on par with the top programs in the country.

It's not because we're a football school, it's not because of Beilein.  It's because kids today (1) don't want to be coached and (2) it's about getting to the League and in today's messed up world, staying longer only hurts your chances.

Are some of you reading the whole tweet?
People u seek out is better than those that seek u.

Odd for AD to tweet to Burke?    Yes

Good advice?     Yes

Perspective

Winning road games in the B1G is tough.  Winning in Breslin in tough.  Winning against the #9 team, on the road, in Breslin, is really tough.  (wish we would have given it a better effort, but my head is held high)

I vote no

I go to Michigan Stadium to watch UM events.  I go to Detroit to watch Detroit events.   Plus, the outfield in Comerica would provide a great backdrop to the event.

Also, if UM is in a NYD bowl game, won't Brandon and most of the athletic dept be at the bowl game?

Competitive in the top half

Competitive in the top half of the B1G is $400-500k.    It's a smart move for Narduzzi.  He's probably giving up $250k, but another strong year at MSU and he's going to land a mid-level BCS HC job for $1+ million.

I agree that Hoke did the

I agree that Hoke did the right thing with the redshirt (to keep him within the support framework, to help him, to keep him on the scout team, etc.), but let's stop calling it "punishment."    We used to redshirt players all the time, and hopefully, when Hoke restocks the cupboards, we will redshirt most freshman.  It was punishment to Stonum, we would be starting and would be closer to the NFL, but we need to avoid calling it punishment if it's what we ultimately ask most of our recruits to do.

The problem is that he DID

The problem is that he DID drink and drive - twice.   He also lied to his probation officer about how he got to the appointment, AFTER he got pulled over on the way there (so he should have known the probation officer would find out about it).

He's had 2 DUIs and a prior probation violation (which involved leaving the state and failing to report on several occasisons).  I don't care how minor the offense, he's out of chances.

He gone

This isn't just a probation violation.  He's driving without a drivers license.  That a pretty basic rule in our society.

Hoke was generous in giving Stonum a chance to take the time to get his life turned around and prove that he can follow basic rules.  Stonum violated Hoke's trust and Hoke's only option is to send him packing.

Sadly, this is probably going to set a precedent for future transgressors.  Hoke is going to be less likely to give a player the extra rope.

Not gonna happen

Sorry, I don't see why O$U would be interested in a 55 y/o coach who's not a big "name."

And, at 55, I don't see why MD would want to start over.  He's got MSU to a steady top 25 program.  Why would he want to go to a school on probation?  (I know that $4-5 million is a lot of good reasons, but for all MD's faults, I don't see him as the type of guy to jump solely for more money).

Also, as a Vest defender, he's probably not happy that O$U fired Tressel.

FWIW, that's speculation by a

FWIW, that was a post by a RCMBer speculating about what happened, without any sources.  The rumored word is much worse, which is why the threads are rightfully being deleted.

Sorry

This is a little disingenuous, considering you're posting on a message board where people go for instant recruiting information.  Information gets leaked and we're all clamoring to hear it.

Truth is..

The truth is always somewhere in the middle.

Hoke may be the only coach who was given a formal offer, but I have to believe that Harbaugh, and possibly Miles, were told the job was there's if they wanted it.

Conversely, I'm sure the LSU money discussion isn't 100% accurate either.

epic

I'm sure it was epic.

are you sure?

Are you sure?

The last time Stanford played in AA was 1976 and the last time Stanford went to EL was 1961.

Their band website is pretty funny.

bad fit

It was the worst situation to hire a football coach.

Martin felt pressure to name someone quick and pulled the trigger on RichRod, before he was fully vetted, because he was a hot offensive name.   Conversely, I'm not sure RichRod was sure he wanted to leave his alma mater, but may have been using UM to get WVU to fulfill promises to the football program.  When WVU balked, he jumped at the chance to coach the Maize and Blue.

I don't think either side thought it out completely and it turned out badly for both sides.

RichRod is a good man and a good coach, but not every coach fits into every situation.

Remember: Stanford is private

The problem is that Stanford is a private school, so the contact is not subject to the FOIA, so the media can't see it.

I'm wondering why all this has come down to the 11th hour?  They had 5 weeks to talk and address any issues.

Enough!

Tangible evidence of what?   You think Brandon maintained his silence for a month, then gave a "hint" to RR what he was going to do?  And that RR told a 17 year old kid before he told his own team?

Do you people give so much credence to rumors and conjecture in your own lives?

Maybe, just maybe, Dee Hart made a decision that didn't involve inside information on the CC.

Me too

Seems like he has a big, close family so I don't understand the decision to pick a school that's a 10 hour drive from his hometown.

Michael Oher

Had they drafted Michael Oher instead of Pettigrew, they wouldn't have to worry about either.

Reading comprehension fail

Did you even read the entire article you posted?   How can you say that Hollis said it won't do anything for the sport when he's quoted as follows:

"What you saw today was 113,000 people in the Big House, many of whom were not college hockey fans or even hockey fans," Hollis said. "Most of them will walk away with an appreciation for college hockey."

Hollis whined, but the OP looks bad for failing to read the whole article.

They took the local kid

They took the local kid (Farmington Hills) purely for PR reasons.  They keep him because he's cheap and knows the offense.  He's gone after this year because his minimum will be too high for a #3.

But any critique of the Lion's recent drafts should always start with drafting Pettigrew over Michael Oher.  To think they could have had an O-line anchored by Oher and a D-line anchored by Suh.  Talk about buiding blocks.

I get on a plane for the

I get on a plane for the UM-Penn State basketball game that afternoon.

Didn't Rittenberg go to school?

I heard a rumor that Brandon had Harden give GERG a note to give to RR that said "Do you want to coach the bowl game?   Yes__ No__"

I think you have it backward

I think Dantonio let God write a couple of passages.

I'm confused

I'm confused with the OP.  Didn't UM make an offer to Knox too?

refudiate

Well, Oxford just made "refudiate" the new word of the year.

adage

Most important sports book adage: The smaller the ball, the better the book.

Big difference

The difference was that Les Miles never had an actual offer from UM (thanks Bill Martin), so when LSU said "sign or else", his only choice was to sign.   Plus he was headed to the championship game.  Big difference between leaving your team for the championship game and the Orange Bowl.

We're talking about Harbaugh, not Saban

Do you really believe that a guy like Harbaugh is going to sign an extension to provide a few smoke and mirrors, then come to Ann Arbor?    I don't care if it's common practice among college coaches, if Harbaugh does that, he drops a notch in my book (but still want him :)

We'
Why wouldn't they make that

Why wouldn't they make that information public immediately to quiet the rumors and calm the recruits?

Dubious, at best.

Um...

It's BS that he put OSU ahead of Wisconsin (Tressel's probably buying him dinner for that one), but every coach ranks their own team a little higher than the norm.

We still have a national program

We still have a national program, so we make the national news, good or bad.  Even though I thought RR's song was showing support for his team and players, I'll admit it was unusual for a football coach to do.

FWIW

Jaime Samuelson went to Northwestern and his wife his a Sparty.

Nearly every major D1 head

Nearly every major D1 head coach was successful in their previous positions and half of them fail.

I don't get the whole "if

I don't get the whole "if Harbaugh wants the job, we get him, otherwise we keep RichRod" mentality.   Seems the decision should be based on two simple questions:

1.  RichRod is the best coach for the job. (keep him)

2.  RichRod isn't the answer (fire him and find the best coach available, Harbaugh or otherwise).

If Brandon reaches out to Harbaugh in any way, shape or form, it shows he's not committed 100% to RichRod and should move on.

No No No

I want swagger and pride, but we're Michigan and I want to win (as big as possible) with class and sportsmanship.  When players act like jackasses, it makes us all look bad.

Personally, I don't think any amount of taunting can top scoring a TD.  Score the TD, hand the ball to the ref, because you've just said it all.

I doubt 20,000 of the fans in

I doubt 20,000 of the fans in attendance know any of the hockey chants.  The only chant that 100,000 will be doing at the game is Let's Go Blue!

He didn't act like a yokel

He didn't act like a yokel when he stole WJR from Martin (another Martin fiasco).  And without Hollis' idea for the Cold War, there wouldn't be a Big Chill.
