we really need some OL recruits in this class with the confirmed transfer of Kyle Bosch and (still rumored) transfer of others potentially

Bo's offer to Harbaugh was a bit out of the blue (#rimshot) so those comments make sense to me and fit with my expectation that JH is a Michigan diehard that will love the chance to come back and right the ship (especially for the sake of his ego - recovering Michigan's lost glory puts him in the upper echelon of college legends alongside Bo and I think that's an opportunity he won't turn down).

John is Jon's doppleganger twin. He's been running a tight, little janitorial outfit in southern New Mexico waiting for his shot at the bigtime lights.

1) Subjective Concern: The Moeller incident - no integrity, undercut a successful team's coach; significantly worse than Harbaugh throwing M academics under the bus. Integrity is higher to me as a value than an extra two wins/year
2) Objective Concern: How do academics at Michigan and LSU compare? How much of LSU's recruiting success is Les Miles vs LSU being in a hotbed of talent where football is all there is for some of these student-athletes? I don't know where or how to find the stats for this question but it seems to be an important factor in any transition for coaching at Michigan and there seems to be a significant difference in cultures comparing LSU and M.

I missed the part where 2012 was a failure -we lost to Alabama (NC), ND (runner up), beat MSU, lost to Nebraska when the all-time leader for QB rush yards got hurt, lost to #4 OSU in Columbus by 5 pts, and lost to #10 USCe on a last minute TD in the bowl game.
Almost all of the struggles of 2013 can be linked to Oline issues that seem to have been worked out this year (significant improvement) and were mostly related to an inexperienced interior line.

He should have remembered this speech before he thrrew Bo and Michigan academics under the bus in 2007. Give me the guy that never publicly criticizes Michigan and works like hell behind the scenes to make it better. Give me the guy that understands that "The Team, The Team, The Team," is more than a slogan.
If he's coming back, he needs to address those comments in his interview process and his answer should carry more weight than his coaching acumen.

It's a bit disingenuous to treat this as "Mealer doesn't respect fans' opinions and questions their right to have one" - Mealer was upset that a fan opinion (held by many fans), which he disagrees with, carried more weight than the opinion of those in the athletic department (coaches, staff, players). That said, as a Muggle, I still think that firing DB was the right decision after the e-mails were confirmed.
Absolutely agree on the BS of "we paid for it" but don't treat us like customers hypocrisy.

Mattison is talking about when we're on defense and you're countering with when we're on offense.

Can't separate his "support from the fans" from his "support by the AD" - plenty of reason for him to be upset even if Twitter isn't the smartest way to vocalize it.

Year 1 was great, all systems go
Year 2 ran into a buzzsaw against 3 Top 5 teams and lost the starting QB (and an all time offensive weapon) on the road at Nebraska, getting bit by a lack of QB depth
Year 3 was a tire fire, forseeable due to Oline depth chart but beyond expectations. Ended in close loss to nationally ranked rival on a failed 2 pt conversion attempt
Year 4 was digging out of depths of Year 3 while installing a new offense and defense. Bottomed out in an embarassing home loss to Minnesota, climbed back to respectability against Rutgers and was outlcassed against MSU. Turned it around at Homecoming and (hypothetically) won out setting up a team with strong potential for 2015.
everyone's mad at Hoke in year 4 while he's operating under a microscope, let's pull the plug to satisfy the fanbase and let someone else have a shot with his guys because we've got a shot at brinigng in a credible coach with an established track record in college and pro football that has strong Michigan ties.

I just went off the OP's original numbers before the correction and didn't catch it.
We ain't come here to play math!
|11 weeks 6 days ago||No way he's fired at 9-5 with a midseason turnaround||
That said, many who are calling for him to be fired have already made up their minds and will use the turnaround to confirm the decision they've already made - "can't evaluate talent - why wasn't Drake given more touches against ND," etc
The adjustments to a new a offense and defense were vastly underrated by many fans (i.e. "it's year four, we shouldn't be struggling" as opposed to "it's year 1 with offensive and defensive systems") and were further compounded by graduating leadership the past 2 years (Kovacs, Denard, Gallon, etc) and injuries (Funchess, Taylor, Peppers, Morgan, Kalis, Pipkins, etc. Yes these are all things other programs deal with (sometimes seeming to not struggle at all and other times struggling mightily and publicly) but they're still a highly contextualized reality the team is dealing with and facing.
Progress over the course of the season (especially progress that looks like running the table) is what I'm looking for re: my insignificant and powerlesss opinion on whether Hoke and co. should be retained
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Meh||
He was on the bench because our D stripped him twice on the first two drives. Maybe being benched in the first half meant he wasn't gassed in second half? We held him to 78 yds last year so maybe we've just got his number.

All things wrong with DB's tenure revolve around football. It's also been well cited on here that several of the things DB gets blamed for (gameday atmosphere, commercializing Michigan football) were trends that began before his tenure. Box seats began under Bill Martin - that changes the climate and clientele (especially since the absence of boxed seats leads to a faux-equality between fans). Unfortunately for him, he dropped the ball on THE major public aspect of his work. This was surprising in light of how well he handled stretchgate, etc but people react better when dealing with critics of others rather than critics of themselves. In the end he earned his "resignation" and we should be able to move on but people are kidding themselves if they think this automatically results in a "return to the Michigan gameday" experience from the 70s-90s that many cite.
He was great for Michigan Athletics in other ways though.

I live in Indiana. I pray we beat them. I can't stomach listening to IU fans talk trash to me about football and basketball (they talk less about basketball as of late for some odd reason).
|13 weeks 5 days ago||Of more concern||
is that he was an asshole toward Michigan while coaching Stanford.
|15 weeks 20 hours ago||OTOH||
Sitting Devin, while costly in the short term, may bear fruit longterm. He seems more zeroed in and I'm seeing less of the sloppy mechanics (they've still been their on the ints against Rutgers and PSU). Admittedly I'm no QB coach but the first couple games it seemed like DG was just willing the offense and that got us into trouble against halfway decent defensive plays.

As is often quipped - "There lies, damn lies, and statistics."
|15 weeks 3 days ago||Pretty damning numbers BUT||
I do think it's a bit selective to limit the data set to the last 8 Power 5 teams instead of taking Hoke's entire tenure into account (even if still removing tomato cans).
I'd be interested in seeing the full tenure's results and knowing why Drew opted to only do the past 8 games.

That would actually be a great distinction for the fans wanting to boycott - go to the game, cheer like hell for the players BUT don't buy any extras - concessions, products, special promos, etc
I like that kind of specific and targeted boycott

"But when you're trying to change things, often you've got to sacrifice in the short term for long term gain."
You're the first of the boycott supporters I've read acknowledging that this hurts the players even if you feel hurting them is justified to get to DB
