Nothing ground breaking here but thought I would comment about what i saw yesterday.
My grandmother is visiting from florida and shes a diehard Michigan fan. She had never seen the bighouse before so the whole family decided to take a trip down there with her and take some pictures in front of the stadium.
As we were going over the bridge over looking the outside practice field the team was out there practicing. Me and grandma ended up getting out of the car to watch practice from the bridge for about 5 minutes. A few things i noticed.
Morris and Rudock kept being rotated after about 3 plays each.
Morris threw an interception and every defender went pretty nuts yelling and screaming.
Players were being substituted very fast and they would get to the next play quickly. The practice seemed very uptempo and organized.

The player ranking system also stuck out to me when reading this. Theres no way this doesnt have a huge impact on the team. Guys will start working themselves to death to move up the list.
Im thinking Joe Bolden is #1.

And you won't see anything from them this year monkey, because well.. There just not that good. It seems michigans top rated players the last few years outside of a few guys ( peppers, butt, bolden ) have simply been over hyped and aren't who we all wanted them to be. It's still confusing how some people on this board cling to false hopes about some of our guys. Devin Gardner being the worst example of the delusional hopes star rankings can bring.

injuries aside I just can't see Smith getting more than 7-8 carries a game. His poor vision is the biggest reason.

Go blue 1984 I'm with you on this. Shallman definitely surprised me with some of his runs in the spring game and I think he's going to be the starting running back at some point this season. From what I could tell he seems to have great vision and a very strong first cut. Extremely elusive running style. He also caught the ball very well a few times and is a good blocker. Derrick green is simply overrated and is what he is. A very average running back who goes down easily despite his size. I still think he can be a solid contributor obviously but should not be the starter. Deveon smith can't see the holes and won't be able to pickup the playbook fast enough. I'm hoping Ty Issac can blow up and become a star but not counting on that happening. My votes on Shallman then possibly Karan Higdon being the dark horse surprise of the year. He seems the opposite of Derrick green in that he doesn't go down easy and has the strength to compete in college right away.

Definitley needs to get a lot stronger but I see the potential with him. Good ball skills, good hips and very long arms. Awful tackler and seems to be pretty soft physically, hopefully going up against top competition in practice will improve this. Overall I believe the coaches have a plan in place for him and he seems more of a situational passing downs player.

Scout says he looks more natural on defense. Any idea what position hes going to play?

This kids speed and body control look to be elite. His upside is off the charts.

Going off his 2 year old film I came away pretty impressed. He seems very calm in the pocket and hits his receivers in stride almost every completed pass. Not the strongest arm but his vision and accuracy can make up for that.
Ive never been that impressed with Malzone so this makes me happy.

You could make an argument if the recruiting has really been that good. Just because rivals says so doesn't mean shit. Derrick green is a perfect example and is clearly overrated. Kalis is another one of the top of my head. It's also disturbing that Shane Morris has not been able to beat out Gardner when he's been flat out bad in so many aspects. These guys are still young and hopefully can still make a difference. Also the bad coaching obviously has an effect as to how they play but how good are these players really?
|1 year 18 weeks ago||If those measurables on||
If those measurables on Chatman are legit then we should all be very excited. also I have very big expectations for Wilson. His ball handling and passing ability at that size are just rare. Still have to se how he transitions to college but having an amazing coaching staff makes me feel good about this. Im also very curious to see what doyle and donnal can bring to the table next year. God its awesome michgan has a basketball program again. Cheers !! !
|1 year 18 weeks ago||As much as I want Gardner to||
As much as I want Gardner to be the guy and lead this offense I have to agree with gremlin. devins a great person and has a ton of talent but he just makes terrible decisions with the football. And for anyone who wants to use the offensive line excuse look back at last years northwestern game and the second half of the iowa game. The o-line was solid in those games and we actually could run the ball but devin was just awful. Should have been picked off atleast 4 times against northwestern and it was a miracle we won the game. I admit he played his ass off against ohio state though and will always love him for that. Gardner will most likely start the season but would bet a lot of money it doesnt stay that way for long.

no QB competition? yeah right..
|1 year 20 weeks ago||The oline was definitley||
The oline was definitley questionable from what i saw but i also think the coaches were mixing different groups together. I never saw Glasgow playing with Bosch or Kalis and i think when the season starts they will all start. Really hoping Magnuson can come back 100% or were in some big trouble. Braden looks like a bust to me. He seems to lean forward far too much and i dont trust him on passing downs and he doesnt seem to be this huge mauler in the run game even though hes a giant. I really liked what i saw from Cole out there and he will have a bright future. Dawson made a few mistakes but i saw a lot of good things from him especially on a few pulling plays.
Deveon smith should i believe will be the starting running back. Hes just flat out better than Green.
Freddy Canteen has been a very pleasant surprise. This kid could be something special. Has Denard game speed.
Devin Gardner... the support he gets around here still shocks me. The bottom line is hes a terrible decision maker and he always has been since stepping on campus. He has all the talent in the world but between the ears he doesnt have it. People will be in denile about this but a lot of sacks last year were a direct result of Gardner holding onto the ball to long and thinking he was Johnny Manziel. I really really do hope though that im wrong and he lights things up this year but i would bet a lot of money thats not going to happen. Nussmeier will put in Shane in the second half of the Notre Dame game and that will be the end of Gardners career, book it.
Liked what i saw from Speight out there.

Please dont compare him to d harris as that is laughable. Although I really like webers speed, acceleration and agility. He goes down farely easy and doesnt seem to be very strong. Reminds me a lot of justice hayes and michael shaw. I could never see him being more than a third down recieving back / special teamer.

Good news as he needs the practice reps. Still needs another year of getting stronger though before he can compete to start.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Magnus how can you judge||
Magnus how can you judge Drake Johnson when no one has actually seen him play in a live college game? Have you been to practices and know something we dont? Now after a serious injury like that im not sure how he will play but I believe he could be perfect for our offense. I mean hes 6'1 and around 220 lbs and the fastest running back on the team. As far as Derrick Green, we all saw him improve once he lost some weight and i think he needs to lose another 5 lbs or so. Playing at around 225. I agree with Magnus that hes not the type of runningback who can create things on his own. The o-line must get some type of consistent push at the snap or were in trouble. If we were playing today I would start Deveon Smith. It was really frustrating he didnt get more snaps last year.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||If were going by rivals||
If were going by rivals ranking of Speight then yes we should consider him a sleeper. Along with many others here though i wouldnt consider him a sleeper. Hearing him talk in interviews really has me believe this young man will be something special for Michigan. I hear leadership in his voice. More so than our other quarterbacks. Combine that with his mobility, size, accuracy and throw on the run. Well, lets all be excited. My sleepers though are Chase Winovich and Bryan Mone. Winovich just needs to add on some weight which might take about two years but he has as much potentiol as anyone in the country IMO. His motor and athleticism is what sets him apart. Mones going to be sort of a project but his size, strength and natural balance are just things you cant coach. Very happy with this class :)

Lasthoke Im sorry to have missed all your posts. Everything I was thinking you said with a lot more clarity. The bottom line is I think everyone should be very happy with Pope thus far as hes PERFECT for THIS pistons team. The guy is all over the court always hustling and that defense is just awesome with flashes of offensive ability. Comparing upsides at this point. Pope > Burke
|1 year 36 weeks ago||I saw Pope play lights out||
I saw Pope play lights out defense against Paul George the other night so ill stick with my belief that he is an elite defender. His offense might be a project for a season or two, it seems his offensive awareness is below average but hes starting to get more comfortable with his shot. Burke had a good night against a bad Orlando team so I dont know how much i can take from that. Im still taking Jennings over Burke if you ask me. Jennings is simply a better ball handler and more athletic in my opinion. Burke will never be able to shut down the elite point guards in the league like Pope has to potential to do and has shown.
|1 year 36 weeks ago||As others have said Jennings||
As others have said Jennings is starting to gel and I would take him over Burke. Popes defense has been elite and his hustle is without question. I think Joe D made the right choice. Pistons are fun to watch again and have A LOT of potential.
