Talk about a hot take. MAAR is a future nba veteran? Trey Burke might not even be a future nba veteran.

People are down on the committment because Davis doesn't look like a very good prospect and he committed to class that looked to have potentially better prospects. Although a number of our true freshmen this year played better than their recruiting rankings, the team was still pretty awful. I think many people expect Michigan to recruit instant impact freshman given the recent success, and it just has not happened. Despite playing a lots of freshman for a large amount of minutes, not one Michigan player ended up on the All Big Ten Freshman team. OSU had two, Maryland, Indiana, and Northwestern(!) each had one. Michigan has been much better in the last 3-4 years than all of those teams, but does not seem to be drawing the same level of talent (except in the case of Northwestern).
Another issue, and more important in my opinion, is that the Davis committment seems to screw up the roster balance unless he is going to be a 6'10" point guard. I can't believe they are not going after a true pg in 2016.

Did anyone else notice how light the shooter's sentence was? A four year turn round is pretty light, in my limited lawyerly experience. Judge must've liked something he said.

I think it's probably time to delete this topic. I'm amazed that anyone gives a a shit about a movie at UMix that literally dozens might go see or what Jim Harbaugh thinks about that movie. Then again, I also don't understand why anyone would care that Harbaugh drives an F-150 or loves shitty daytime TV.

I'm not sure I follow you. When you talk about effects, you have to be talking about past events, so I would think hindsight is the only sight that matters. I don't know what you mean by confidence verse probabilities, other than to say I am a Bayesian so I don't see the difference.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Really. So a bad call, or||
Really. So a bad call, or series of bad calls, that fouls out a player with 10 minutes left has a lesser effect in your view than a bad call that fouls him out with 1 second left? There is a difference between the effect of an event being actually diminished and its effect becoming harder to discern. One is causal, the other epistemic. Everybody wants the three pointer at the end because they are certain it will win you the game. But it's effect is still just three points. If you assume that ref error is random, then the more time left gives the expectation that error will balance out. I thought you might be making that sort of argument, but I guess not. Errors at the end of the game are such that we are more confident about their effects, and perhaps that means we ought to try especially hard to avoid them. But that doesn't just follow as tautology. Especially since we can, in some cases, be confident that a bad call earlier in the game had a large negative effect, such as when your star gets his 3rd foul five minutes into the game.

What makes you think that the extra time is more likely to wipe out the effects rather than exacerbate them? Unless you have a reason to think that, this critic won't hold up.

It's classless. It's obviously not the same as white dude saying that, but that's still an offensive term to a great many people. There is a great Public Enemy song about that. I know women who use the word bitch, and guys who use the word motherfucker all the time, but those are still offensive words. You shouldn't be saying any of them at a press conference representing your college. You wanna shit talk people? Do it on your own time.

We shouldn't badmouth Beilen. But I don't think we can confidently say he is a better coach than Izzo at this point.

Really impressed by a coach who is so involved in teaching academic and, honestly, life skills. College kids struggle to juggle responsibilities without the huge commitment required for athletics. Feeding them easy courses helps in the short term but hurts them when they need to get an actual job. Teaching them how to manage it takes a lot more work, but gives a genuine education. This guy seems like a committed teacher who happens to teach football instead of a committed football enthusiast who happens to teach. Looking forward to what he accomplishes.

This is absolutely wrong. The team played better as young guys got more experience, not because spike was playing instead of Walton or because they lost LeVert. LeVert isn't a ballhog who was ruining the offense. He was also our best defender, the side of the ball ignored by all the spike fanfare.

The ok aclu seems to be making a political statement in supporting the university. Should they make it a legal one, the sincere part of it wont be based on the school not being part of the state government.

Do you think speed limits aren't government regulations because you can choose not to drive? Or the sec isn't a governmental agency because you don't have to trade securities? They are state actors.

Gotta laugh, gently, at all the legal theorists "educating" people on how the first amendment works in this thread. A state university is unquestionably a state actor. It is part of the government and hence the first amendment applies to it. If only someone made a comic explaining this.

People keep fucking talking about Kentucky in 2013 but they were not this bad and their recruiting was light years ahead of Michigan. I'm sure michigan will be much better next year, but the transition will look nothing like what happen at Kentucky

Kentucky still made the nit in their off year. A team can have an off year and still break 500 in a weak conference.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Why shouldn't we blame the||
Why shouldn't we blame the principles? If we had fouled, we likely would have won, young or not. The principles are much easier to change than the age of the players, and could hurt the team again in the future, so why shouldn't they be the focus.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think the problem||
I don't think this team zone problems are on offense. The problem is that they cannot cover the corner 3 in either of the zones they run (2-3, 1-3-1). They are bad in man-to-man, but I'd prefer they would just stay in man. Once the novelty of the 1-3-1 wears off, as it does quickly in conference play, it takes a lot of practice to run it effectively (it's more aggressive than most zone defenses). We don't have that experience with it. Our 2-3 is clearly something we very rarely run and hence it isn't run very well. The spacing looks like total shit, even to my untrained eye, and they always seem late in getting it set-up.
The injures have really hurt our man defense. Spike's a very good college player, but Walton was a much better defender. I saw Spike call for about 3 or 4 switches, with different players, during a single 20 second possession in man defense. You have to fight through some of those off the ball screens, especially with a team this young-- freshman are doing all they can just to cover their man, they're going to get confused when you keep switching on the screens. There was another possesion where Chatman looked pissed at Spike for calling for switch (though maybe that was on Chatman, it was tough to tell). I think he's also worse than Walton in helping off on the big. He often helps too late. The bigs are poor defenders, but they're so young and/or undersized that there isn't much more you could reasonably expect. They need good help defenders and there aren't any.
