So what will we say when we

So what will we say when we find out he was actually expelled a week ago?

/s too soon?

Wishing him a fast recovery.

He's kinda a jack of all

He's kinda a jack of all trades type. Occasionally he takes his guy one on one to the hoop, uses his length to get a fairly acrobatic lay in. But he also spots up and knocks down a good amount of jump shots. When needed, he runs the point fairly well. Then again, I feel like he gets 8+ boards every other night. Jack of all trades, master of none, but when you can do a lot of things, no matter the matchup he'll get his oppurtunities.

He also has developed a knack for when yo use his abilities. I know he's a little turnover prone, but even though he's a solid shooter, he doesn't jack up any dumb contested shots. He can drive on guys, but he rarely forces it, he picks his oppurtunities if he has a good match up or its late in shot clock. On D, he's not a lockdown defender, but he uses his length to get into passing lanes and pull in rebounds. I think this is why the coaches have praised him so much, he's found a way to really make an impact despite not having one dominat trait, he really learned how to insert himself where needed.

I applied from out of state

I applied from out of state 8/9 years ago [insert obligatory holy shit I didn't realize it had been that long]. First off, Michigan is no where near as hard for out of staters as UNC. UNC is notorious for accepting a very low out of state amount (~10% I believe), where as Michigan wishes they could accept more at about ~30% (pretty certain it was around that when I went).

I applied in probably the worst year for out of state students. There was histrorically high yields in the previous 2 years (i.e. more students accepted their offers than anticipated), and thus my year felt the ramifications with lower acceptance rates. Needless to say, I got in off waitlist with credentials a notch below yours (3.85GPA, 29 ACT, no where near the extra cirriculars). I would say that unless things have changed significantly, you're practically a shoe (shew?) in. I also think being from Tennesee helps, there are not likely a ton of applicants from there.

Ok, I don't doubt your Ok, I don't doubt your knowledge, but I was talking about something a little different. This is not a court of law, or part of our criminal justice system. I'm not making a comment about our justice system as a whole. This is a university organization that does not investigate crimes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they appear to be a neutral party meant to hear disputes between students. The accused gets an opportunity to share his side and question the story. This is different than a court of law, but it's meant to be an alternative option of dispute resolution. If after both sides get to share their story the arbiter deems a punishment necessary, I see no problem. I didn't say the accuser doesn't have to share his/her story, they just don't need to be subject to a cross examination, that's the benefit of having an outlet like this to resolve disputes. Maybe that's not fair, you know more and have insight I don't, but that's how it seemed to me.
It appears the victim must It appears the victim must file the complaint, so it's a moot point regardless, but I was just envisioning a situation where the victim may be traumatized and perhaps unable so someone else files the complaint instead. Of course the accused has every right to question the story of the accuser, but that's done with the arbiter, the accused rapist doesn't sit in a room with the alleged victim face to face. Maybe I took "face the accuser" to literally?
If there is enough evidence If there is enough evidence available for an independent arbiter to determine someone deserves to get punished, I don't see why it matters whether he or she spoke to the victim. And since when does an accused person have the right to "confront" their accuser? The whole purpose of arbitration is to have a third party be able to talk independently with both sides and come to an unbiased assessment
I hope as a fan base no one

I hope as a fan base no one begins with the "Well these are accusations, and it had to go through the due process....". If this happened at MSU or OSU, we would calling it out as a reflection of their lower moral standards. We should be angry as a fan base that this was allowed to happen, and I just hope there's some reason that explains why this would have taken over 3 years to resolve.

Completely agree. We should

Completely agree. We should be upset and demand answers. There may very well be a reason (maybe long after legal channels didnt work, the victim chose this route), but if this was MSU or OSU people would be up in arms. Heck, weren't people saying there should be a suspension for the OSU RB who allegedly hit the girl outside the bar? If we can't hold our own institution to the same level, we are pathetic as a fan base.

Glad someone else noticed. My Glad someone else noticed. My GF who was only half watching (not a mich fan) all of a sudden says "that guy just punched him in the groin". I didn't even know what she meant then I rewound it and saw. Still wasn't totally sure he wasn't coming in to just block out (I'm sure dirty shit happens on boxing out all the time) but that looked pretty intentional
This sounds like someone This sounds like someone thinking it's greener on the other side. He makes assumptions about states atmospheres with just annecdotal evidence. He has no idea what it's like actually being an athlete there, of course things look that way when compared to his experience
ahhhhhhhhh gotcha

ahhhhhhhhh gotcha

Whoa whoa whoa man, lets not

Whoa whoa whoa man, lets not get abrasive here. Ever heard of south park?

I'm not your friend, guy.

I'm not your friend, guy.

The college life these kids

The college life these kids live is much different than the one you or I experienced. Being a D1 athlete requirements an extreme committment between grueling practices, class, media commitments, etc. I'm not saying it isn't enjoyable in many ways just like it was for the rest of us who also worked hard, but I think it makes perfect sense that someone would want to leave that to go make a few hundred thousand or more a year and soon as possible.

Lets add he who's name shant

Lets add he who's name shant be spoken to the list. Ok....Courtney Sims name can be spoken, but last I checked even he was bouncing around somewhere too I think.

Its unfortunate, but every

Its unfortunate, but every fan base has these lunatics. They always have and always will. Its just unfortunate that modern technology has provided these idiots a forum where their opinion can make it directly to an individual. In the past, these people would have been relagated to the fringe of society. Thanks to twitter, people in their mom's basement around the world now have opinions which we are forced to be subjected to. Unfortunately for Damien as well, the 99.99% of Michigan fans who understand he's 17, most of us have day jobs and generally have more important things to worry about. So the .0001% seems a lot bigger when viewed through just the twitter spectrum.

Only the last group do I go

Only the last group do I go into the game conceding a loss and not feeling bad. Otherwise, we will be competitive and likely favored by Kenpom in every other one. That feels just fine for me.

Well said

I think its amazing that Belien has a program that looks like a consistently competitive tournament team. Can you believe just a few years ago we were ecstatic just making the tournament?

You're absolutely right. I

You're absolutely right. I did not even notice he said capital gain. Just saw report to IRS. It has been a long time since I took CPA

Ah yes, forgot about that.

As a CPA, I would never actualy advocate doing anything remotely similar to what I said. Merely brainstorming semi-crooked schemes for fun. 99.9% of the time you think of a "scheme", it turns out you were just forgetting something simple like you brought up. I also did several years of auditing and now I'm in consulting, but the extent of my personal income tax experience includes an internship in college, and what I learned in my one tax class in grad school years ago. I go to my own tax expert for 99% of tax questions. I also wouldn't pay you a time without a signed SOW and strict limits on discretionary spending :)

You're technically

You're technically correct....the only kind of correct when it comes to taxes.

Yes thats true, I was

Yes thats true, I was paraphrasing in only saying he would pay taxes on the money received because thats not really relavent to the OP, he would be able to deduct his basis.

Proving a business would be pretty much impossible, however, I wonder if you could claim a hobby if you bought and sold enough tickets. In which case, you can deduct expenses up to the amount you earned (with a cap).  So if you did have some net income, maybe you can claim some other expenses to offset that (shipping? I don't know what else there would be, but someone could get creative).

It seems in the situation

It seems in the situation described above, its assumed everything has already been paid to the University by the seller, in which case the charitable deduction is not transferable (if anything, the seller may need to report income for the amount he sold the tickets for....but we won't touch that). If it is the case that there is the option to choose a different person than the ticket holder to pay, then there may be a ways for the OP's buddy to get the tax deduction if the seller has yet to pay the PSD.

I think this is just normal

I think this is just normal college attrition. A guy burried on the depth chart at an elite program wants playing time somewhere else. Likely has nothing to do with old or new OC

Valid point But I think this can be different, mainly because I predict Hoke giving Nuss a lot of freedom and autonomy. Nuss did not agree to come from a championship program to be told what to do. GERG on the other hand was plucked out of free agency (per se) after a miserably failed HC gig. While RR was probably a bit hands off the D, it was clear who the boss was. RR basically said "We know what Casteel did in wvu worked, I need you to help implement that here", which is when the issues came up.
The main reason getting

The main reason getting thrown around (paticuarily on SEC twitter/blogosphere) is Saban talked to him about finding a place to "land on his feet". Initial speculation is Saban wants Kiffin as new OC. Nuss has also been considerd a top candidate in SEC to make a move to HC somewhere (interviewed for Washington job), Saban might be taking pro-active move in finding replacement, rather than waiting for him to leave.

I think its a forgone

I think its a forgone conclusion this guy will not be here more than 2 years. Thats totally fine, and I'm sure Hoke and Co know this and will be in contact with replacements the whole time. If he comes in and turns the offense around and leaves for a HC gig I have no problem. If he doesn't, and Hoke is gone, well we are pretty much in the same place as we expected with Borges.

I don't understand why they I don't understand why they didn't just limit the number of non-alumni you are allowed to bring? Make it 2 or 3 additional adults. Then put a note along the lines of "if you're party would like to bring more than the allotted amount, keep in mind membership with the alumni association is available even to non-alumni"
LES MILES HAS TURNED LSU INTO

LES MILES HAS TURNED LSU INTO MICHIGAN OF THE 90's FER FUCK SAKES

I think this shows the I think this shows the Minnesota win was quietly an even bigger win than we give it credit. It's not make or break, but if not we would likely need a road win against and Iowa or better quality opponent

double post, sorry, wasn't even on my phone : /

I've been seeing this same

I've been seeing this same thing for a while in all media. Tebow-mania was the official clincher when I thought "Shit, even ESPN has succumbed to this crap". Is there any room in your rant to point out ESPN's use of twitter? I absolutely hate how twitter has become this source of legitimate information. I'm really not concerned with what Lebron has to say in 150 characters or less every night, nor do I think its a fair representation of the general publics opinion. I think it feeds into the same "E!" culture by rewarding the most rediculous opinions all in an effort for clicks. 15 years ago there were also nut jobs with these crazy thoughts, but thankfully they stayed inside their heads. Now, because its said on twitter today we somehow care or that opinion is legit?

I agree, I was amazed at how

I agree, I was amazed at how many PSU fans were upset with the BOB hire saying he wasn't a PSU guy. How could they not see how important it is to erase all ties to any previous era of PSU football amazed me

Does he have any ties to Penn

Does he have any ties to Penn State?

When was the last time a When was the last time a coach went to a Super Bowl, made the playoffs the next year, then went back to coach college?
Your 405th comment was this Your 405th comment was this terrible? Ouch. OP - enjoy the game. Hopefully you make it to campus one day, but the game day atmosphere is great no matter where you are.
The OP could work for the AP The OP could work for the AP with that kind of shameless click baiting title. For anyone who got duped and actually read the article, Speilmans comment were fairly innocuous. He never actually said they poor at developing, just said they need to develop their players to turn things around. As someone above said, fluffy mcfluff
Thank you for pointing this Thank you for pointing this out!! I've felt exactly the same. I'm pretty certain the Ware factor caused so much Louisville sympathy the refs were swing by it. Silva played terrible but he was allowed to drive in out of control and get a touch foul, but Burke would get hammered but stay strong and never get a call
Please god, let this be the

Please god, let this be the small push in recruiting we need to keep kids interested until we start playing to our potential

Actually, what you're

Actually, what you're experiencing is classic confirmation bias. I lived in Michigan for the Tigers ALCS, and the wings Stanley Cup runs, and part of the Pistons string of conference finals appearances. I could easily argue I saw the same thing with an uptick in wings gear as the playoffs rolled on, especially when they got to the finals. I even worked in a clothing store at the time, and we set an entire section of wings clothing during the playoffs. Like I said, what you saw would happen in literally 100% of cities where a sports team starts to make a playoff run, there will always be bandwagon fans. For some reason many Detroiters have this fixation that it only happens in Chicago. I think it has something to do with the fact that so many Detroit people move to Chicago so its allowed it to manifest itself through a sort of group mentality.

The Blackhawks bandwagon

The Blackhawks bandwagon thing is the most over used and over exagerated stereotype in sports. It is perpetuated only by upset Wings fans who feel so entitled about their hockey franchise they simply can't accept that a city where hockey was so bad for so long could possibly be in the midst of a several year stretch in which they are better than the wings. I remember seeing Toews jerseys in Chicago since he was named captain in '08, and no one pronounced it Toes. And yes, there was an increase in blackhawks tee-shirts after the stanley cup. This only happens in 100% of cities after their team wins a championship, it is not unique to Chicago.

Ok, that rant is over. Sorry, I just have a lot of friends who are wings fans and have been holding that in a while.

If Lovie Smith can get fired

If Lovie Smith can get fired after a 10-6 year, Schwartz can get fired after this. The Lions have been nototious for turnovers, and penalties his entire tenure. Rebuilding in NFL is not like college, you can get a new guy in their who makes an immediate impact.

Ok, changing rules to provide

Ok, changing rules to provide student athletes more money is a totally different argument. Nor is anyone arguing that we won't win a NC without adjusting our offense to move the ball better. Everyone wants to win B10 championships and have coaches that know how to call plays; we're saying we would not sacrifice the integridy of the program or the school to accomplish those things.

I don't think anyone said

I don't think anyone said they were satisfied with a 7-5 season. We just recognize that we are more likely to suffer through a 7-5 season because we are not willing to sell out our morals and run a shady program (i.e. pays kids, takes kids with character issues, ignores/cheats academics, etc). Doing it with class and sticking to your convictions is the harder way, but it is the core of what unites us as Michigan fans, and gives us a sense of self idendity with the team.

So if all you care about are NC's, then go root somewhere else. We expect to be a team that competes every year for a title,  but when we don't, we still take pride in knowing we run a clean program that develops our players both on and off the field.

You make literally no sense.

You make literally no sense. I thought bringing back voting was supposed to get rid of people like this??

First off, owning a First off, owning a restaurant does not exactly make a ton of money. So I don't know where these massive profits are you speak of, but whatever they did make, is probably in 401k so they can retire at some point? Is it really that crazy they're asking for help to restart the place so they can retire before 80?
Second, if you didn't like the food or service (and sounds like you never even tried it, just heard it), why are you posting in a forum about helping the place out? If you dont want to help, don't. It's not a charity fundraiser for a kid with cancer, no one asked you to agree with the cause or donate.
The parking spot right on

The parking spot right on campus may be valued at $350, but its priceless IMO!

I agree. I just think in this

I agree. I just think in this situation, the person is clearly looking for more than a wikipedia entry on the guys coaching past. Yes, I can look up and see he was with Boise, then Texas, etc, but obviously theres more too him. Was he considered the guru of Boise's offense? How good was Boise's offense those days? Did Texas offense improve under him? These are things that googling might not tell you as quickly, but maybe, i don't know, someone on a football blog might?

Actually, the LMGTFY was Actually, the LMGTFY was funny for about 10 minutes 4 months ago. Now it's just a douchy way of responding to someone genuinely looking for some insight.
