I think the issue is Ira. When Sam hosts, he is much more natural at keeping the conversation going and getting each guest involved. I like Ira, but he just kind of lets the guys go without playing traffic cop.
Mullings subbed in at the end for Sainristil when Illinois tried to kill the clock by running the ball. We were matching their heavy formation. Colson was in for that series too, IIRC
People who complain about a free website as if it owes them something. Sorry you don't like Draftageddon or soccer posts or whatever. I do, some portion of the readership does, and the authors do. If someone is forcing you to read those posts Clockwork Orange-style, well, that's a matter for the police, not for the site.
I watched the B1G championship this way on Delta. On my Thursday return flight, CBS and TBS had "service unavailable," so I missed some first round action. Great service when it's working.
I'm pretty sure this is just a fairly standard format for roundup-style blog posts. You could also accuse EDSBS's Curious Index of "stealing" the same format. Given that Brian is buddies with Matt Hinton & Spencer Hall, I don't think any perceived plagiarism is an issue.
From the David Brandon interview on this week's show, it sounds like there will be a fairly extensive pre-game dedication ceremony. He mentioned a special marching band show and plenty of "goosebump" moments. My guess is 2:30 start, but I'll be on the lookout for firm details.
He was actually pretty badass. Started out his speech by calling out a student who wrote a disapproving letter to the editor:
“(Paterno) expressed considerable doubt about my suitability as a public speaker, along with the concern that my distinctly minor-league status would bring down the whole tone of this glorious occasion,” Davis said in his speech.
I was happy to see Mike get a few plays in a playoff game. I've been checking in on the Colts depth chart every once in a while to see how he's doing, and he's listed behind Chad Simpson as the 4th string RB. I don't think Simpson saw the field last night, so Mike's #3.
My master plan would be for the Colts to let Addai walk (not unreasonable), and Donald Brown would slide into the starting spot. That would put Mikey as the #2 back, one injury away from starting. A guy can dream, right?
I saw the second "illegal touching" penalty, and I'm not sure why this was ruled a touchback. I wish one of the commentators had been able to clear this up. I found this description of an illegal touch, but it was not helpful WRT the penalty:
No player on the kicking team may touch a punt beyond the line of scrimmage before it has been touched by a member of the receiving team. This action is called illegal touching. This is not a foul that carries a yardage penalty, but it insures the receiving team possession of the ball at the conclusion of the down. Even if the receiving team fumbles, trying to return the kick, they will be awarded the ball at the spot of illegal touching.
There is an exception to the illegal touching rule. If the receivers foul during the play and the penalty is accepted, the spot of illegal touching disappears, as if it never happened.
Kevin Seifert of the ESPN NFC North blog does a "dirty laundry" feature in which he discusses confusing penalties from the weekend's games; I hope these calls are mentioned.
I think it's pretty clear the Freep rushed this article to publication with the intent of tying up loose ends in follow-up articles. If they really wanted a well-rounded report, they would have started research earlier or released the article later. But the purpose was to time the article's publication with the start of the football season, and they got exactly what they wanted.
I agree. With Forcier/Robinson now and Devin Gardner on the horizon, I'm okay with Pryor struggling for 2 more years at OSU *crossing fingers that Pryor will struggle for 2 more years*
I've read the site once since Leitch left (and even before then I don't know why I read it), and that was when the Fire Joe Morgan guys took over for a day. Other than that, it's a completely worthless TMZ-sports blog mashup.

Glad to see that Brian is also a Mo Willems appreciator

This comment is not getting the recognition it deserves
At what point should I be worried that my hard copy hasn’t arrived?
Looks good! Will there be a new RSS feed, or is that going away like the app?
Does anyone have a picture of the Denard eating celebration? I loved seeing that kid so happy.
Believe this shows that Pryor's penalty has been reduced from a 5-game suspension to a light, in-game spanking

I know it's over and oh it never really began but in my heart it was so real.

Hey, at least it doesn't say "OMG SHIRTLESS"
That's the worst goodbye I've ever heard. And you stole it from a movie.

It feels good to laugh again.

Crap, just read the tweet about Forcier.
As would Denard Robinson's inability to run the zone read option last year
I'll be disappointed if TWIS doesn't reappear somewhere. Hopefully Brian's got something lined up for his general college football musings.

Some great stories after that, too.
