Don’t need to tear the man…

Don’t need to tear the man down and make allegations that are made up.   He was still transforming kids bodies and had a pretty low injury count by my estimation when he left.  And nothing reported says anything other than he acted like a professional through all of KB and JJ’s reigns.  We can move on but maybe do it classy style, just like everyone is all of the sudden insisting with Juwan (after a year of bashing the dude beyond his record alone) on this very same blog.  We can treat the help just as good as  we treat the talent and higher ups people.

Not hung up on your title at…

Not hung up on your title at all, thanks for the informative post.  Like all of those dudes, but want Wil Johnson heir apparents (CBs) the most.

Separately, I keep waiting for a Groza (PK) finalist portal'ing in.  Feel like that is going to happen again too.

Cheddar had one of the best…

Cheddar had one of the best three pt shooting percentages on the team and got up and down.  His D sucked, but he is going to do well in this style of offense.  As a super hungry and ready to redeem upperclassman, I wouldn't count him.

Let the flood waters of…

Let the flood waters of commitment rise to drown out recruiting anxiety.  Here we go!  Go Blue!

I think the last two spots…

I think the last two spots will be the difference.  If we get Goldin and another big fish, could be really interesting. Without him and maybe another piece, I think it will still be a solid transition team to a more stable program (early Zak and Stu days anyone?).  Going to be competitive and much less consistently painful to watch though, so there is a positive!

Sounds like from that 24/7…

Sounds like from that 24/7 article that he is to be in that FAU Davis role and shoots pretty well from beyond arc.  Another player trending in the right direction.  Bet he is one of our top 3 scorers next year.  Love it.

Goldin next and we are looking at a pretty amazing overhaul.

Milroe had to start…

Milroe had to start somewhere, and when he did, he wasn't that far away from what Orji looks like.  Sorry man, its fair to compare athletes playing the same position in a sport at the college level.  Not comparing him to current day Milroe at all, just the pathway.

 Moore dynamic playerZeke…
  1.  Moore dynamic player
  2. Zeke Berry is going to be really good
  3. Davis, Nichols and Sullivan all seem like very promising Freshman
  4. I think Davis may be our QB sooner rather than later.  Think two headed monster of Orji and Warren ain't bad either.
  5. TE room is insane.  Absolutely loaded there.  Tonielli, Marshal and Klein were promising.
  6. Defense is going to be fun to watch and a lot of our success will be based on turn overs and Ravens style wins.
  7. Fun watching dudes like Koumba, Ike and others.
  8. Couldn't get a read on o-line, still a mystery to me.
  9. RBs were mixed bag, hard to judge in spring game.  Some explosive glimpses, but didn't see a ton of screens or check downs to backs which was surprising (check downs were to TEs).
  10. Loved the spring game....so excited for another season, but definitely going to suffer some losses this year with that schedule and so much developing talent.  But there is a chance we make the playoffs still imo if we win early and get that confidence.
He had several balls where…

He had several balls where he led the receiver and maybe one or two touch throws I didn't think he had in his bag, so he moved the needle for me.  Only QB who was allowed to throw it over 15 yards was Warren.  I think jury is definitely out on that for Orji and whether he can make the few, but accurate throws, a Michigan QB has to make above 10/15 yards once in a great while.  Other thing that is critical for a guy like him is the OLine...see Bama's QB for comparison when under duress and when not touched.  Orji look similar to me.

That ball he threw for a TD…

That ball he threw for a TD was a cannon arm.  Heighth and 55+ in the air against the grain.   Maybe not cannon cannon (Milton) but that was a surprisingly strong throw for that kid’s build.

Boom, great commit for May!

Boom, great commit for May!

Orji with a nice response.  …

Orji with a nice response.   Like his show of competitiveness and making some passes under pressure.   He’s only going to get better too.   We have a top three now plus Tuttle when he is back.

Um Davis Warren is producing…

Um Davis Warren is producing in the spring game. Well done young man, have always liked him.   Wonder if this puts him at the 2nd spot or maybe more?  He looks to be growing in confidence before our eyes.

His back up back up wrs are…

Love Wink already.

His back up back up wrs are…

His back up back up wrs are not helping him, but he has been super yippee.  Lots of pump fakes and over complicating things.  If Freshman stays consistent here I bet this move him above him on depth chart.  KC just shouted him out…he is going to grow so much in this first season.  Good times ahead.

Qb order is taking shape…

Qb order is taking shape:

Tuttle is wild card.

Davis Warren for Heisman.

Davis Warren for Heisman.

Feels like when G Robinson's…

Feels like when G Robinson's son grew a bazillions inches and then committed to us.  Love it!

My favorite "bad take" was…

My favorite "bad take" was Mel Kiper's "I was waiting on him" and "he never did anything to show me he belongs" in the top group of QBs.  He qualified it that he might have it in him, but he didn't see enough and then talked about Penix making a 100 4th quarter throws and JJ only making 30.  He left out that that was because we were curb stomping people and JJ had managed the game up to that point that his services were no longer needed.  He left out the one handed grab and across the body deep throw to save the game.  Left out all of the precision throws that were NFL accurate and velocity.  Usually like Mel for service he provides but he's wrong on this one.

Wow, what an opportunity for…

Wow, what an opportunity for Tarris.   About to see how truly poor development was under last regime here.   Hurley is no nonsense and going to be unlock the beast Tarris truly is.

I have t seen much evidence…

I have t seen much evidence that people want get rid of GWIII.   Good news he said today he is coming back out of the transfer portal.  Happy to see what he can actually do now with a fresh start and one year of college under belt.

What about Sanderson and all…

What about Sanderson and all he gave to the program?   Many many more years of his life and pittance of the salary and gratitude.

I do note in my post that Jace was one of the few that showed hustle throughout that miserable season and disagree with those here that don't think he has anything to offer as a basketball player.  Totally agree on the bench vibes he brings, just don't love the staff stuff, which sounds like folks agree, that is for Dusty to manage and he seems capable of doing so.

Seems like playing for…

Seems like playing for someone other than your dad would have been great for Jett and also could do the same for Jace.  But doesn't take away what is some pretty clear reporting that those comments you mentioned were justified and call for the player to change course.  I love that Michigan fans for the most part on this feed seem to be open to giving him grace.  Just bummed Sanderson didn't get the same and don't have same degree of confidence this will end well for all players.

Plus, Ya Ya is transferring to a MAC school to get minutes.  Jace's options are in that range, so I wonder if him sticking around has anything to do with that or he really is trying to make amends/change.  Be cool if was and, of course, would totally respect that.

Totally fair.  I was…

Totally fair.  I was presuming it was undisputed that the player was treating the staff poorly and had a track record of same.  I think the only undisputed part, by Sanderson and the player's dad, is the poor treatment during the "incident".  So point taken.

That said, if Sanderson wants to come back, would you take him back?  Did the university and program "honor" our commitment to him and his team?  The "kid" is an adult and both in my book are Michigan Men.  One seems to be getting a whole lot of grace, which ultimately may be the right move for the program, but it still feels weird to me.

Fair point...I think I…

Fair point...I think I moving off my "trash take".  Putting my trust in the Dusty one to figure it out.

All things being even (role…

All things being even (role model scholarship player of ex-coach whether contributing or not on court), I totally agree, but are you presuming the information about his role in the Sanderson departure and his treatment of the staff is not accurate, no? Sanderson was a huge part of the program's success and he is not here largely because of this player and the ex-coach (who I still love and respect as a fan).  The behavior the player is accused of also seems very real, very entitled and very problematic for culture building.  Very real risk that the classy move here (which I agree it is) invites some uncertainty and toxicity, and exit ramps are ethically available given background.

That said, my "trash take" is not totally congealed and I think the debate here is the reason I raised it..super torn on it and feel for the new coach and the player (and player's fam).

I guess if May is comfortable he'll treat new staff appropriately and that he can manage any toxicity...its not only classy, buy maybe a sign of how confident May is about his coaching/roster management abilities.  So cool.  If he is not, then I am sure he will honor scholarship minimally and figure it out (perhaps on bench or otherwise).

Regardless of what I think of the player (as noted I think he has more to add than others on thread), I also think its incredibly awkward for Jace, a young person playing for another coach who is replacing your dad of whom you probably thought should not have been fired and who was fired in part because of some of the drama you caused.  I don't wish that weight/burden on any young man, Michigan man or otherwise.

Tough situation all around, largely of the player and ex-coaches doing.

That is a premature take. …

That is a premature take.  Cade has proven more than those guys, but none of those guy (except maybe Tuttle) have had the same PT.

I wouldn't sleep on 3 or 4 of them.  I think Tuttle and Warren can give similar results, and I think Origi has potential to be on par with Bama's QB and offense from last year (early fits but with some experience, something far surpassing a Cade run offense in terms of explosiveness).  Not a huge believer in Donegal based on small sample size.  Worse case scenario we pull the rip cord on a five star freshmen who is supposed to be pretty darn good (would just hate to do that - vs just getting him some minutes - with this defense though).

So you are saying exactly…

So you are saying exactly what you are trying to disprove then, it doesn't matter where you go as long as you have recognizable talent.  If JJ gets taken in the top ten with his numbers, he  theoretically should be opening up that line of thinking for other QBs thinking about coming here.

Scouts can see when a guy puts up numbers at an air raid offense but can't cut it in the NFL too, or when its a Patrick Mahomes.  Scouts are good these days.

4 of the 6 are highly likely…

4 of the 6 are highly likely in my mind, pending admissions office and annual credits not transferring shenanigans.

Cade and Mike, not sure on.  Essegian is a life-long Michigan fan, and Danny Wolf is reported to be a strong possibility.

I think the Oakland kid is a real possibility too, but Toledo guard was hot news for awhile, but is being pursued any many others right now.

I thinks going to be raining transfer (actual) commits soon now that two Assistants are in the door.

Love the optimism and don't…

Love the optimism and don't think it's outlandish to think we land all those dudes.  Could also get kid from Oakland and would love for them to consider the two kids from Stanford who are perfect for May's system.  Be immediately relevant again, or at least above middle of BigTen pack.

Read Athletic summary on it…

Read Athletic summary on it describing his approach to building the FAU program and game philosophy.  Big internationals who can shoot 3s.  Sounds alot like Beilein.  Like it.  Has a gut renovation on his hands.  Empty cupboard.  Blank canvas.  Starting from scratch.  Etc.

I thought Kayat was almost…

I thought Kayat was almost out door already too.

If the stuff about how he treated the staff is true, Jace should be shown the door too

I we don’t. We have to…

No we don’t (have to react quickly to stop bleeding). We have to rebuild whole staff and whole roster. After that season no one is expendable. Be great to keep Tarris, but even with him we are starting from scratch. Watching Dug’s last ten games, you can’t say with a straight face he is either elite or dripping with effort when adversity hits. Love these kids because they chose Michigan but we’ll be fine when we get the right program leader in the door. Until then, let anyone walk who wants to walk. Literally be hard to do worse than what just happened.

This one hurts more than Dug…

This one hurts more than Dug and GW.  Ouch

I get it but don’t get it.  …

I get it but don’t get it.   Barely got minutes,  it developed…with a new coach and fitted roster he clearly has a great chance to step up.

I know Oats had drama…

I know Oats had drama baggage too from Buffalo days so I presumed he wouldn't make it anyway. Dude is recruiting though and getting results at a football school.

Program reset needed.  Was…

Program reset needed.  Was really concerned about AD's comments on effort after last game, given the lack thereof.  But this was the right, albeit tough, decision given Howard is a Michigan legend.  Hated it didn't work out, but it didn't, so you move on.   Would have liked for that to have been before we lost Sanderson to a rival program, but is what it is.

Excited once again for the future of the program.  In an NIL world with our success and brand, we should have an advantage.

Will always love that 1 seed team, the excitement that was bringing him back and fact that Howard got the Fab Five back in the building.  Good luck to him in the future.

How to make this a "problem…

How to make this a "problem with the AD" situation...

!!!!!

“The effort never backed off, and for that I am proud,” Manuel said

That was some of the worst player effort I have seen by any Michigan athletic team in my over half century of Michigan fandom in any sport.  Not a body on the floor, outrebounded, outtoughed and no one to hold them accountable. Effort means more than running fast occassionally.

Now no one to hold the Coach accountable.  Wow.  Furious.

An unmerciful end.

An unmerciful end.

incredibly bad basketball.   Hard to be that awful.

Lack of hustle got dinged by Coach P at halftime.  Commentators literally laughing at team.

Jace Howard was an awful and deserved no minutes while Yaya and GW got basically zero minutes of development time in big ten tourney.

Dug is checked out, jacking up shots, no effort or development.

wild number of turn overs.

glad it’s over.

Well Warde probably need to…

Well Warde probably need to judge this entire year's worth of work on this critical head to head with PSU tonight.

Sarcasm aside, I wonder if we lose by 15+ if Coaching change could happen, OR if the players "play for the coach" and win the game, if it nudges Warde to keep him.

To me, Warde needs a commitment from Howard to overhaul the program (roster, staff and approach), ala nearly fired Harbaugh, or he has to go.

Eli over performed and still…

Eli over performed and still wasn't a "great" BigTen player.  Not a MAC player at all, just a super solid contributor and worked for all he got (so maybe close to a all MAC type player when recruited).  Took awhile.  If Durral is on that level and that type of player, I would still be happy.

Starter on Day 1.

Starter on Day 1.

I think that is always the…

I think that is always the fear with change...the change.  But I like to think we could land a massive coach who could restore the brand here.  So many options and so many big names who get folks to forget about this debacle.

And if Juwan stays, he needs to tear down the staff and roster anyway. Tweaks will bear a repeat so we are in the same spot either way.

When our two main programs…

When our two main programs have an outstanding QB or PG we thrive.  Our Bball program does not have an outstanding PG nor do we have depth at the position.  I'd start there. The idea Wake Forest (who I watch a ton) got Boopie Miller from down the road at CMU and a 5 star in Sallis from Gonzaga, and we have no back up point guard show that our portal game and talent acquisition plan needs a massive overhaul.

Beyond the PG, then I would scour the portal for anyone fitting the mold of Illinois' Marcus Domask, our own (and my favorit) Chaundee Brown or Tennessee's Dalton Knecht, decent character dawgs who can play d and shoot threes.

After that, I'd find massive men 6.1o and up, who can rebound and gives fouls.  E Reid is another guy from Gonzaga at Wake that would have been a perfect fit for us and teamed well with Reid.

BUT most of all, I would get a NIL GM just like the football program just did, and apply it to the much smaller basketball program footprint.  We should dominate the portal with the resources at our disposal even given our higher academic expectations.

Yeah, that is premature. …

Yeah, that is premature.  Have not given him enough minutes in live action to determine same.   After the flub, he was actually decent drawing a charge and asking a nice out back.  Howard mysteriously then took him out, I think for his son or Davis who have been putrid.  Of course “he’s not good” if the coach plays him like that. Baffling.

Major regression.   I could…

Major regression.   I could see him transferring for sure.  Not developed at all.

Kayat plays well, and then…

Kayat plays well, and then Howard pulls him and doesn’t put him back in after we get within legit striking distance. Playing Davis and his son.

This is where the Coach has confused me all season (in addition to the three assaults).  Hasn’t developed either Kayat or Washington at all despite not getting to ten wins.  Beyond mere minutes both have shone a little something different than the guys who have literally given up.   Not sure why he isn’t being asked about this. Bizarre.

1.  I don't doubt it, given…

1.  I don't doubt it, given the type of boosters who are pros at giving money already down there.

2.  I agree, can't believe we haven't lost more players and will be holding breathe in that last Spring window.

3.  What is the best place for an alum to put their money right now if we want it go directly to NIL on football and basketball, not through Warde or does it have to go through Warde at some juncture?

Given the affluence, passion and generosity of our alum and fan base, no way we should not dominate the sport with this new set up.  Excited to see what our new "GM" set up does and if it helps us catch up and moves Warde to a little more of a progressive and competitive place overall.  Annoyed we didn't jump ahead when we had the opportunity (again Warde) but I guess we were too mired in sign-gate to chew bubble gum and walk.  Frustrating.

I'd be really surprised if…

I'd be really surprised if Michigan's HR rules would condone what was described.  Sounds like the two did not fight and there was no battery involved.  But an assault is essentially the intent to do a battery.  Clearly, Sanderson, and all of the folks restraining Howard, thought there was a clear intent to physically attack Sanderson for some words he said about his son being privileged (after Jace was allegedly dressing down Sanderson's staff).

Atop it all, Howard was on a "no more strikes" policy after getting into with Turgeon and Wisco coach.

It's fair to allow the other side to be heard of course, but this is not a good look for the University, Warde, Jace Howard or Coach Howard right now.  And it further damns the future of this program.

EDIT:  On the sports side of things, and just based on how this all went down, I wouldn't be surprised if Sanderson wanted to stick Howard/Warde in the eye on more time by taking a job at his alma mater (he's a Buckeye alum).
