I have a Mazdaspeed 3 that…

I have a Mazdaspeed 3 that is my "sports car".  It at one time could go 155 mph (maybe still can), which I've never come close to. I've had a ton of fun getting it up to speed, and it is super light compared to our other cars (3200 lbs). It also can hold all 4 of my kids with stuff.

Cars that go 190 vs 200, is silly to me, because I don't have the skill or the balls or the money to enjoy them at that type of speed.  That's why so many people love miatas.  Drive them to the edge all day.

So cool.  Which color did…

So cool.  Which color did you get?  I love them in all colors, but Dark Navy Blue and White look great on both.  Hard choice between the large 5 spoke rims and 10 spoke rims.  The 4s would be my second choice. A great car to drive.

Also, did you get the manual or the automatic?  I love a manual transmission.  Our explorer has the paddle shifters but it's not something I really would think i'd use.

I hope they survive. …

I hope they survive.  Getting those vehicles to market that quickly is really impressive.  They beat Ford, Chevy, and other startups like lordstown to market with the first electric truck, and also the first real electric SUV.

Just like Tesla, they are disrupting the US market, which is good, because the Chinese market is going to be coming on fast (I have serious doubts about a lot of what the Chinese do based on my working with them and many travels.  Their culture has a lot of issues that could hold them back with quality and innovation), but the big 3 need to change and Rivian and Tesla are pushing that.  They are showing that you can build cool, fun, useful electric vehicles.  It'd be a shame if they can't get over the hump, because the R2 and R3 look like amazing compliments to the lineup.

I think they are wonderful…

I think they are wonderful vehicles. My range anxiety only stems from the fact that this would take over as the family vehicle to get us places.  We go to Traverse City from Metro detroit area multiple times a year in both the winter and summer for vacations and for kids sports.  I prefer to make the trip with no stops, or one quick stop when possible.  We are looking to have a car in case our explorer starts having mechanical trouble (8 years, and no issues right now, but I know once I hit 100,000 miles and 10 years, the costs and breakdown issues can start up).

I think our vehicle after the next one will definitely be an electric.  I've been in the battery industry for 2 decades, so am excited to see it grow and take off.

So cool to hear people love…

So cool to hear people love the Rivian.  The RS1 would be the electric vehicle for us with 4 kids if we had the money.  Looking at a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid as our next vehicle. Carries 8 and gets great gas mileage with good power.

I've seen amazing videos of the Rivian doing crazy trail climbs that fully redone 4x4 vehicles won't try, and then go race a sports car in a drag and win that.  Truly amazing vehicles.

With the lotto being what it…

With the lotto being what it is, I love to think of what car(s) I'd buy.  Top of my list would be a Porsche Targa 4s. I have always loved porsches (356, the 80's targas with the whale tails).  I justify that it would be fun and practical, as it has AWD for winter driving, and jump seats in the back to hold luggage for a weekend trip with the wife, or kids to some of their sports.

Other Cars I'd want:

Baja Bug (this car I will have eventually even without the lotto)

2006-08 Austin Martin Vantage (one of the prettiest cars ever to me)

2005 Ford GT (Perfect retro car to the original)

356C Roadster (grandparents had one back in the day)

150 Jaguar Roadster (other grandparents had one back in the day)

(AWD) Corvette Eray (Never been a corvette guy, but this car is just crazy cool)

(AWD) Rivian RS1

As you can see, I'd probably go a little crazy on cars if I had unlimited money, but that's my list... so far.

There are ~32 5 star…

There are ~32 5 star recruits each year.  I'd assume very few 5 star recruits make it to 5th year, so let's assume 32x4 = 128 5 Stars available to 128 teams (or 60 teams that are actually going to get them).  There were 2 Alabama teams with 21 5 stars, or 16% of the top recruits from available.  That is insane levels of talent hoarding.

I had no idea his Michigan…

I had no idea his Michigan Legacy was in question.  He was the main architect in recruiting the Fab 5.  They had their style, and uniqueness that was a huge influence to our culture.  They made it to back to back NCAA finals (Belien's teams made it to 2 too), and were a bad possession away from winning the second one, after getting beat by a very veteran, very talented Duke the year before.

As Alum, Webber, Howard, and Rose, all had stellar playing careers in the NBA and always came across as great people who gave back (especially Howard) to the communities.  Webb and Rose were great as personalities in the media (I love watching C-Webb on old open court episodes) and Howard came to back to Michigan and loved it, bringing his kids here to experience Michigan with him.

He had 3 good years, and 2 bad years.  The coaching incidents where he lost his temper are bad looks, and I think helped in the decision to let him go, along with the bad recruiting, and bad two seasons. But Michigan is not under sanctions, and not tarnished.  Left as a Michigan Man with an amazing message out.

Two years of under performing coaching would never come close to defining who he is, what he has done for the University, and how he is as a Michigan Man.

What about a small empty one?

What about a small empty one?

I still love the call of…

I still love the call of Gallon being open on the last drive of the night game against ND.

"Shooter" Robinson

Still bummed it didn't work…

Still bummed it didn't work out for him.  Still a big fan of himself and the other Fab 5 members. Jalen, Juwan, and Chris all were amazing players in college, and in the pros, and have had great success as analysts, and until the last 2 years, as a coach (also as community leaders for the youth).

Class acts, that I am proud went to UofM. Hope they all are celebrated by the University and the community for a long time for their contributions as students and as Alum.

Top coaches talk about…

Top coaches talk about having to play weird guys after a launch.

I didn't collect a lot of…

I didn't collect a lot of baseball / football cards, but I collected Bo Jackson cards.  Was so bummed when he got hurt.  I don't know what happened to them.  I have a suspicion my brother took them.

Nebraska-Omaha would not…

Nebraska-Omaha would not have been my guess. Nice stat.

I'll have to read it.  One…

I'll have to read it.  One of my good friends was obsessed with it in high school.  I watched the original movie and I think that lost me some interest.  not the books fault.

My favorite book has always been "Ender's Game"  There are more books in the series that are also interesting, but have a different feel.  The movie also did not represent the book well, although I think thye did a good job with a lot of the cast.  Ender needed to be younger.

I think it has something to…

I think it has something to do with the ska band the Mighty Mighty Bosstones

First game as a student at…

First game as a student at UofM. I watched Michigan lose to ND at Crisler the week before. Overall, it was a good season after that, but that was the start of Michigan vs Mobile (elusive) QBs.

Excellent comparison. …

Excellent comparison.  Totally missed this one. Should have read one more comment down.

I thought his Michigan comp…

I thought his Michigan comp was Devin Gardner.  Similar sizes, smart, humble, and good leaders who both had arm strength and could scramble to create.  Gardner had more opportunities to throw and run, but then had no middle of line and horrible play calling that killed his career.

I don't watch enough NFL to know anyone he comps well with.  He's bigger and has a stronger arm than Breese, but Breese was a great leader and could scramble to create passing lanes. If he plays anywhere near Breese, that would be good.

Honestly, each QB has their own style.  Even the current crop of great QBs win in their own way.  Its such a small pool to choose from to get a true comp, especially with the way the game is played now vs 15-20 years ago.

Agree in theory, but in…

Agree in theory, but in reality, they are very different to me.  Beilein was targeting a lot of under the radar players and built them into champions and NBA players.  I think he was tied for first, or second overall with getting his kids to the NBA. I think it was hard for him not knowing how many kids he would need, since he was so good at getting kids to the NBA, and got frustrated by some earlier than expected departures.

Saban consistently had the number one recruiting classes, due to talent and oversigning, where he pushed players to grey shirt, or take a medical exemption, or just push them out. similar, but very different to me.

I remember the term "Grey…

I remember the term "Grey Shirt" where he brought too many kids on, and kids had to sit for the fall and hope they made it in the spring, but couldn't go anywhere else.

He oversigned, and booted kids that weren't performing and Alabama paid to get those top classes.

He still is a hell of a coach to do what he did, but it is clear that his frustration lies in the fact that players have some power back and other programs can even the playing field with NIL.

He is better than Brandon. A…

He is better than Brandon. A low bar that floated under him as he sat on a bridge and did nothing, but a bar he passed non-the-less

MSU had the rep back then. …

MSU had the rep back then.  I remember working my ass off and barely passing Chem 130, and my MSU friends partying all the time and acing their classes.  It was definitely a difference.  Michigan students put an emphasis on school. (even my friends and roommates who all were way smarter than me, still studied a lot).

I thought MSU admissions had changed.  I had heard that it was much harder to get in these days, so was thinking the culture may have shifted. It's a ways off, so not something I have to worry about, but they need a change.

Disappointed to hear that. I…

Disappointed to hear that. I only applied to MSU and Michigan from high school, and was lucky enough to get into both (obviously going to Michigan with a strong push from my parents).

My kids are young, but I am really worried that 30 years later, the bar to get into Michigan will be so high, it may not be a possibility (I don't think I could get in today). I was hoping that MSU would be a strong instate back up with other school options.

Great article. I don't think…

Great article. I don't think he is weird. I think he lives what he believes. He thinks it is a privilege to get to run after practice to get better.  Winners get a chance to get better.  He believed Shea was "Shea Fucking Patterson." And because he really believed it, Shea believed it.  He runs the hill showing he will never ask you something he won't do.  Same with the workouts.

He's a good guy, and a good football coach, because he completely buys in, and it's hard for players, coaches, and team support to not follow that leadership. I'll be rooting for him in the NFL.

The RB does a little 1st…

The RB does a little 1st down show off with his teammates.  He has no idea that Michigan fans are going to watch this over and over for a Michigan player making him look bad.

I demand a comparison with…

I demand a comparison with another Michigan Man. I want it run with the Rich Eisen 40 yard dash.

1. Casino Royale. I remember…

1. Casino Royale. I remember thinking that it was going to be tough to replace Bronson, but what a job. The action was great.  M and Bond had great chemistry. Just a great introduction to a new bond.

2. Spiderman: He is a fan favorite for a reason.  He has amazing villains to go against. Most have personal issues and good back stories.  Spiderman has cool super powers, but I love how being a hero hurts his personal life, and he has so many issues.  The spider verse is done super well and allows new unique spiderman stories. (Flash and Gambit as a kid were also awesome).

2b. Casey Jones (TMNT): I was a huge TMNT fan as a kid, and still think they are great. I love looking at Casey Jones though as a Vigilante. He has no powers, no training, just a hockey player fighting crime with a golf bag full of sports equipment. Can't get more badass than that.

3. Doc Oc: Joker is a classic.  I love his chaotic nature as a villain, and was probably done as good as any in Dark Knight, but Doc Oc is great.  Super powerful with his arms. But nerdy and a scientist, so a smart villain.

4. False. No!

Michigan games where there…

Michigan games where there may have been a heated rivalry, so especially Saturday night games of a weekend series, Gassoff used to join the 4th line. Wasn't big, but would scrap with anyone.

College hockey had the more spontaneous fights with fighting not allowed.  Hard to fill a spot with an enforcer, but he seemed to take on that role in early 2000s. He got plenty of "We want Gassoff" chants when he was and wasn't suited up.

As others have said, skiing…

As others have said, skiing will be easier to pick up in a day or 2. My wife was doing greens all day on her first day out on skis at Boyne, while I was falling a lot in comparison on a board (I know how to ski, but wanted to be with my wife and wanted to try snowboarding, which is also a blast).

My only complaint about what you said is to stay on the bunny hill/ slopes for so long.  In my opinion, I'd move to the greens as soon as possible for the following reasons:

- Fewer people and fewer beginners around you for a lot of the ride

- Easier to get an edge, as the mountain will be slightly steeper

Just my opinion. Whatever he does, it will be a blast.

good, call. Sorry meant 6…

good, call. Sorry meant 6 pts (was meant to root for 2 wins).  too much kids hockey where they only get 2 for a win. haha

You will also be at a higher…

You will also be at a higher elevation than you may be used to.  Running out of breath on some of the long runs is common as you are both using a lot of new muscles to control the board, and also at a high elevation.

Runs in Michigan are only 500 ft, with most much shorter. Out west or east, a run can be 3000 ft. Even in shape, it may take you a little off gaurd.

I do not recommend the pizza…

I do not recommend the pizza.  Parabolic skis are made to help steer. keep them parallel, and learn to lean into the edges. it will make the day way better.

As a skier, spending the day…

As a skier, spending the day in snowboarding boots was like heaven.  So much more comfortable. But agree with a lot of what people are saying about skiing.  The parabolic skis have made learning to ski and turning so much easier. Snowboarding will take a longer time to get the hang of.  I think you can do bigger harder stuff quicker when you do get a feeling for snowbaording vs skiing. Either option will be fun.  Anectodaly, my wife was a new skiier, and I was a new snowboarder (I have skied a lot), and I fell a lot that day, and my wife was able to carve down the slope. She is not very athletic compared to me.

Wear a helmet.  They are…

Wear a helmet.  They are comfortable, hold your goggles in place, won't fall off when you fall backwards, and protects the ol noggin.

I grew up skiing, but tried snowboarding a few times.  First few times without a helmet.  Remember falling backwards and my hat and goggles falling off as I hit my head and crawling up the hill to get them.

I'd also watch some youtube or tik tok videos of guys giving advice (I am your age and tried snowboarding well before both).  Some guy's random shorts come up on my youtube account where he gives people advice on the hill that are just starting out.  There is some advice in how to snowboard that you might not think of until you see it.  Then can try it out on the hill.

Group lessons may be slow. One on one, may be more expensive, but get you to up on the mountain quicker.

Have fun.

Weird, I thought Denver had…

Weird, I thought Denver had blue with red accents.  Wasn't expecting the dark red and gold colors.  I guess I don't remember actually watching a Michigan game against them.

Go get 4 points boys.  Make a run.

What happened to his other…

What happened to his other fingers?

I'll jump on the QB train. …

I'll jump on the QB train.  I really liked Tom Brady, and defended him to Boston fans when he took over, talking about his 200 4th quarter yards against State in a comeback and his Orange bowl games (I was still way off, thinking he was an Eric Kramer type of QB).

But I really thought Drew Henson was going to be a top QB when he came back to the NFL.  Brady was the better QB when he was a Freshman and Sophmore, but his Junior year was amazing. He threw all over the field in a perfect match of top QBs when he played and won against Drew Breese.

I think the time off to play baseball was too much, but he looked like he could have been one of the greats.  Instead we just have Brady (THE great)

I was so mad we were robbed…

I was so mad we were robbed of a Denard RB and Devin QB Back field.  Denard couldn't throw with his injury, but could carry the ball and run.  Devin was almost as good of a runner and a much better arm.

Even better would be both healthy in the back field.  Denard could still do throws over the defense after he started to run.  Seeing defenses choose between a running sometimes passing Denard, and a passing / running Devin would have been so much fun. Neither had an elite running back in the backfield with them.

I knew I was off, but didn't…

I knew I was off, but didn't feel like correcting it.  Proper callout

My Tractor Traylor story is a boring one.  A friend of the parents took us to game, and we got to sit in the lower bowl (mostly empty because it was an ok team and students were up in second tier).  Tractor Traylor was one of the only other people in our section a few rows up from us.  He did not fit into the chairs at Crisler. That's it.

I think he is seeing what I…

I think he is seeing what I am seeing. He doesn't "look" fast at top speed, but he "is" fast at top speed.  I don't know why, but certain runners "look" fast, but get caught, and certain players "look" normal speed, but are fast.

Denard I think fell into this category for me.  He was way faster than he looked.  I can't really explain what it is.  They are obviously moving way faster than anyone, but their stride is too smooth or long or something, so they don't look as fast as they are.  Some of the Oregon players who were fast, looked fast.  It might come down to even the shoes they are wearing as lighter shoes can give a faster look than dark shoes because you can see them moving more on screen.

Just to be clear, I know both Denard and Edwards are fast. I'm just maybe understanding what he is saying and interpreting bad as to think they are not as fast as they actually are.

But I might miss my exit if…

But I might miss my exit if I don't cut right in front of you at highway speeds to get there.  You left room in between you and the car in front of your 50 tons for some reason.

I must have rose colored…

I must have rose colored glasses on.  I didn't even consider it an option that Blake might not get drafted.  He seems to be such a smart runner, that excels in small spaces and can accelerate out of them. I feel that a ton of teams would take him if he drops to 5th round. I know it is a big difference between college and NFL though, but I thought he was a shoe in to get drafted.  Good luck to him. As you stated a high character person on top of a great player.

I thought it was just that…

I thought it was just that the new director didn't want to do it.  Didn't know there was a group above him pushing to ban it because we are too posh a group to do a silly dance.

What I liked about it was there were rules for it.  We didn't get a dance if we were losing.  And a tight 1 goal game might still not get you a dance.  Game had to be "won" to get a dance from the director.  It made it feel special, like the team and fans had to earn it.

Also said in another comment but completely agree with you that Score-o was a million times better than the sled race. Move em up, Move em back.  Heroes were made on the ice.  Still remember watching the 98 team come back to celebrate their championship, and one of the players picked up the puck with his stick and threw the puck down the ice to score on the Score-o.  Crazy

Cool to learn that.  I…

Cool to learn that.  I started going in fall 98, and I remember it being kids that had cell phones that did it.

Also agree with the organic feel and having to go there to learn the chants.  It was such a fun time to go. I remember being in awe of the upper classmen who seemed to know everything about the players and all the chants they'd lead and come up with.  Bubba was this Icon to me because of the student section (I didn't follow them before I arrived so missed the two Championship runs and had to learn the players and chants and loved every minute of it.)

Back in the late 90s, early…

Back in the late 90s, early 2000s, if we were in a big game (usually against State, but could be another critical game), and the team was up by a few goals in the third period, the announcer would throw in a "You're Welcome!" to thunderous cheers and an appropriate "Announcer, Sieve" chant.

On his last home game he announced before retiring he said "No, Thank You!" and awesome moment to be at.

Glad to see a lot of the cheers are the same as when I was a student.  I took my kids to the game on Saturday and it was hard to hear the chants from where we were seated.  The Cee yah Chant used to have a rythm to it, with each word pointed out and Douchbag extended.  Looks like it has been condensed.

It was wierd to hear the piped in music.  Don't think Yost needs it.

I miss Score-O (pushing the young kid forward and the guy way back), the band playing spinning wheel, Space Odyssy playing before the team came back on the ice for one of the periods, and the band director dancing. But glad to see the students come up with new stuff.

State's now coach has brother's that also played hockey.  One played for Northern Michigan and we'd chant Florence every time he was on the ice.  Nerdy and Childish, a goof mix for the COY.

I was a student during the…

I was a student during the Elerbe years.  I only went to a few games during my time there.  Students were stuck in the upper bowl.  No atmosphere (Amaker fixed that after I left by moving students down and having a better team). But compared to football and Hockey games, there was no chance I'd trade to basketball (I give all the fans that did show up a huge "you are a better fan from me" no sarcasm fist bump).

That said, a bad team during spring break, I find it hard to imagine why you would expect the stadium to be filled with students.  I fully encourage road trips down south with your friends.

For sure.  They are easy…

For sure.  They are easy prey for a lot of people.  Family, Friends from their neighborhood. Grifters who promise them huge returns.  I'm sure they want to be like Shark Tank and make lots of money.  Owning a restaurant or bar always seems so cool, but I've seen plenty of shows about people losing tons of money on a restaurant.  MTV cribs didn't help with people thinking they needed all these cars that were the exact same decked out cars as everyone else and huge homes.

Less fun to put money into an investment and live off the interest. Even there, there are plenty of people to steal your money if you don't know how to invest in a diverse portfolio (I don't know how to do it besides a simplified version on my 401K). So many ways and people there to take their money.
