that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides

What in the world do you have against Megan Betsa? She threw a NO HITTER. 5 innings, 7 innings, 9 innings, I don't care, it's a no hitter. I get it, you like Haylie Wagner. I like her too. She's great. But there's no denying that Betsa has been the better pitcher this year. She's on a tear - 19 straight scoreless innings, three straight CG shutouts. Give the kid some respect. Not every week you see a pitcher throw a no-no, even in a 5 inning game. If it was easy, you'd see it all the time.

No problem! I just said I didn't know where that came from. You answered that question. Not your fault!
|4 days 9 hours ago||Final stat line||
Ramirez posted a final stat line of 8-9 with 2 dingers, 2 doubles, 6 runs scored, 7 RBI, and a 1.000 OBP for the weekend (reached on an error and a HBP in addition to the 8 hits). Also played error-free ball and added a phenomenal diving grab.
|4 days 9 hours ago||A few different ways||
A couple of ways, actually. Number one, her primary position could be pitcher but she could have had an excellent weekend at the plate (Sara Gronewegen from Minnesota is an example, she could have a hypothetically poor weekend in the circle and still belt a couple of home runs and win it that way). The second way is that Michelle Huber isn't actually a pitcher. I'm not sure where MGoSB got that from, but she played the whole weekend in right field and batted .750 with two homers and 4 RBI, reaching base 3 times in all three games. She's a utility player according to IU's roster.
|6 days 15 hours ago||No problem!||
Don't get me wrong, she got ahold of them, but I'd contribute it more to Rutgers' high school sized field. Doesn't take anything away from Abby though, she had a sensational weekend on both sides of the ball. Great to see.
|6 days 15 hours ago||Believe it or not...||
Believe it or not, both of Abby's homers were slaps, not stationary swings. She's still slapping just like she has been all season.

First off, disagree about team speed. We've stolen 36 bases this year so far in 25 games. Last year we stole 67 in 62 games. Lawrence is only 5 stolen bases away from last year's total. So far, it's been a track meet compared to last season. I think we're stealing a shocking amount of bases considering we lost two of our fastest players in Sappingfield and Doyle. In fact, we've only been thrown out two times and one was semi-intentional (1st and 3rd play, get in a rundown to score a run).
Second, I've been around a few of these players. The first name thing is just completely false. Nobody calls Betsa "Megan" and nobody calls Montemarano "Lindsay". Just use last names for the love of god.
Finally, when it comes to Romero, I'll argue any day that she's the best athlete at this school right now. Bar none. I'd have accepted arguments for Mikulak before he graduated but now it's not even close. Nobody else utterly dominates the game like she does.

In four games, UM is hitting .477 with 16 homers and slugging 1.027 as a team. Holy.

Littlejohn isn't the best in the country. Gaudy stats, but Bama hasn't played anyone too noteworthy. She tossed a perfect game against Eastern Kentucky, which is obviously impressive, but she hadn't faced any big offenses this year. They threw her against James Madison tonight and they put up 4 off her. I'd say their three pitchers are very good but they don't have a clear ace. Wasn't surprised to see Osorio throw.

2:30 Eastern time, 1:30 Central time. They play Lipscomb at 12 eastern, 11 central as well.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||It's all good!||
I could have phrased it better I suppose. Apologies. It's easy to miss since there isn't any ranking listed on the MGoBlue schedule until we actually get to that game.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||Last game against a top-8 team?||
Last game against a top-8 team tomorrow? I'm sorry, but that is just utterly false. They play #1 Florida and #7 Baylor in Fullerton to kick off March.
In addition, they have 3 games against a 19th ranked Arizona State squad that has started sluggish but did upset a good Oklahoma squad, and they also have a road series against #15 Minnesota. So there's still plenty of quality competition after this tournament.
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Nah man||
I sort of agree. Not exactly an appropriate thing to say to someone who has spent their life fighting what she sees as injustice perpetrated by males. Instead of saying something about how good her team is or how they play, she gets a comment about how cute they are? A perennial top ten power, and all OP cares about is that they're hot? If I were her, I'd have told him to put the hot tub in and GTFO.

West Virginia, if I'm not mistaken. We were recruiting him towards the end of the Borges era and the beginning of Nuss.
|28 weeks 5 days ago||Of course||
To clarify, I think she'll see time at catcher and 1B. Just not in the outfield. She's definitely good enough to crack the lineup. No problem though, always happy to talk softball!
|28 weeks 5 days ago||I'd be shocked||
The way this weekend went, I'd be shocked if Falk saw much time in the outfield, or any time at all. Yeah, there's no question both are going to be great players. Just from what I've seen though, Swearingen is college ready. She can play. I'm hoping that Blanco could be a serviceable DH this year and make up for some of the offensive production that Hasselbach took with her when she graduated.
I really think Monte and Christner will be two of the biggest offensive contributors outside of Romero and Lawrence this year. Both pass the eye test, they look a lot stronger than they did a year ago, and both looked like they made serious swing adjustments over the summer. Monte banged a couple off the wall and hit what the annoucncer described as a "SCUD missile" line drive through the infield to score two with the bases loaded. Christner hit a couple of lasers too. You'll see a lot more consistency out of the two of them this year.
|28 weeks 5 days ago||I actually think...||
I actually think Swearingen will play a majority of the season at first with Blanco seeing spot duty. Swearingen is listed at 5'10" but is probably approaching 6'0", and is clearly the most ready offensively and defensively of all the freshmen. Monte will definitely keep her spot at third. She hit the cover off the ball this weekend and has gotten stronger and faster from last year. Same with Christner. Both of them are poised for breakouts and my bold prediction right now is that Monte has double digit homers.
Susalla played the entire tournament in right field. The OF lost a lot of depth last season, and with her losing her spot at 3rd to Monte plus the addition of Swearingen and Blanco, she can fill in at right. She was adequate, making a nice running catch in the gap but also losing a can of corn in the sun and letting it drop in front of her. Her bat is still just a little bit off.
Falk struggled. You could tell she wasn't used to college pitching. She looked average in the field at 1st; behind the plate she was serviceable but threw a couple over the pitcher's head when she was returning the ball after the pitch, and hit maybe one ball hard all weekend. She did have two or three singles, but most were those little dinky hits that drop in front of the OF. She has a big, powerful swing, but needs to level it out and work on adjusting her timing. This is a 40 HR high school swing, but a 40 K college swing. She has incredible potential though, for sure.

No problem MGoSB, I'm always excited to talk M softball. Hope to see you in Ann Arbor this weekend for the UK games!
|28 weeks 5 days ago||Some insight||
Pitching was about as evenly divided as you can get - one would start and pitch 3, one would come in relief for 3, and one would pitch the final inning. Only pitchers that got work were Wagner, Driesenga, and Betsa. Freshman Tera Blanco saw work at DH and 1B, notched a few hits but nothing too wild. All three pitchers had their bright spots but I thought Betsa looked especially dominant. Great movement and her control was much improved from last year. She could be the horse this year.
Otherwise, Romero was Romero, and Lawrence batted leadoff and looked fantastic. Great power. Freshman Taylor Swearingen got some work at 1B and 3B and hit a 2-run homer on Sunday against Oakland, so that was neat to see. All of the freshmen got work at some point this weekend, but the primary contributor in my opinion will be Swearingen followed by Blanco.

Wouldn't be Marvin Robinson perchance, would it? That's just what comes to mind.

I don't have any soccer jerseys since I only recently started getting into it. I did pick up a McGary jersey for a solid price a couple of weeks ago and have been looking for an excuse to wear it, so I think I'll rock that.

Student Sports does rankings for softball. They rank the Top 100 players nationally and then the Top 25 classes based on commits. Here's a link to the Top 25 classes for 2014, Michigan is 18th in the country with four commits, two are in the top 100 (#3 P Tera Blanco, and #100 SS/3B Amanda Vargas).

...but I'd put about $10 on him decomitting before NSD '16. He's out in an exotic location on a visit high. Caught up in the pomp and circumstance. But, if I'm wrong and it sticks, not the end of the world. Good for him for making up his mind and sticking with it. I just have a gut feeling that this isn't over.

Might just be dehydration. Three players have been in and out of the hospital all weekend. They're putting on, though. Fighting to the death. Win or lose, gotta be proud of leaving it all on the field.
